For awhile I wanted the vader, the chick officer and the royal guard but then the more I see them, I think I don't want any of them as I too usually just stick to the ot movies. I skipped wave 7.5 of tac as well, except for Pax because he makes a good background character to my cantina diorama.

I'm just not interested in the 'redecorated' stormtroopers either. This whole line is for the birds but I do think it's cool for kids, especially if they would have gotten the videogame at or around the same time!

So far, all three waves of 2008 show NO interest for me EXCEPT 21-B!

I might pick up the Shadow Guard. Now if any of the others are gifted to me I'll take them, but I doubt I'll spend my own cash on any others.

Waves 1 and 3 don't really bother me, but I would like to see a healthy dose of never before done OT before we get into CW.

On the brightside though, if they do end up doing alot of undesirable EU it'll be that much more money I have for other things such as a second AT-TE and things of that sort.

I might maybe possibly consider getting a few if they look good. Thing is, I'm not going to know if I like the game and novel for another six months or so after they come out.

This is a fiasco.

The smart thing for them to do now would be to release them in limited quantities , them re-release them later on when the game comes out IMHO. Give the kiddies who like the game a chance to pick them up if they so wish.

Either that or try to swap them with a different wave if they have something else available.

So with all you folks skipping the line, would you be so kind as to look out for troopers for me?
Really though, with me getting hopefully the two internet case assortments, I won't need any extras except for 1 more each of the troopers.

Though I will need some big help with the Kashyyyk trooper, but that's not TFU.

I could care less about the game. I like the female Imperial and EVO trooper though. I want to see Vader, Rahm Kota, and Maris Brood in person before I buy. I have no interest in the Jumptrooper or Shadow Guard. Ultimately, the deciding factor will be price. If basic figure prices go up substantially this year I'll probably stop collecting.

Obviously "figures that matter" is an extremely subjective term, because I only want figures that matter as well... meaning characters that actually appeared onscreen in the movies, not in some video game that hasn't even been released yet. Plus, the jury's still out on whether this game is going to be any good.

I also agree that Willrow Hood is a stupid idea for an action figure.

This is a fiasco.I totally agree about not being able to get too excited before the game has launched, but I don't look at this all as being a "fiasco." I want them to take the time they need to build a great game.

I'm really looking forward to The Force Unleashed. Just flipped through photos on IGN (http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/823/823668/imgs_1.html), and the more I see, the more excited I get. I hope the toys and any other related products are fun. (Suppose we'll just have to wait and see.)

And I'll say this... I'm willing to bet that some, if not most of the people that just wrote this line off, will turn around and buy something after all. ;)

I would buy 1 (one) single Wilrow Hood figure to put in my Cloud City diorama. While he could be used on Coruscant and in other metropolitan diorama environments, I think he's a unique fixture in Cloud City and I'd like to represent him as such.

While he'd be useful to me for the above reason, I think he is a bit of a joke (the demand for him) but his ice cream maker prop he carried does make him uniquely funny amongst other really obscure figures collectors could demand of Hasbro.

Therein lies part of it: how obscure of character can we get them to produce.

It is a funny question to answer, but you also have to be careful that you don't cause harm to the line by recommending any figure that won't sell - like a Super-Articulated Lushros Dofine.

But since I could use Wilrow Hood (ICMG) in my diorama, I'll support any request for him.

Yes it is sort of hypocritical of me to not get behind Yarna who has more screen time. I suppose that between the Dancers 3-pack and Oola, I have plenty of characters that fit that sort of role in my Jabba diorama. Some might say it is my subconscious expectations for physical attributes of women. If that is the case, it's subconscious and there's nothing I'm willing to do about it. I'd buy Yarna. I don't oppose her being made. I just think the ICMG is more appealing.

Back to the original question of this thread: I will not be collecting the Force Unleashed figures to my knowledge.

I'll buy that Vader to insert into a diorama from "Purge" fighting my Koffi and Baltar figures with Commander Bow or Appo -whichever it was, backing him up. It's a cool figure. There's no other reason.

There is a Jedi and a hottie girl with her midriff showing that look like they'd be good diorama fillers - the latter for Club Outlander. They'll get bought.

I sincerely doubt I'll play the video game or even pay any attention to it. Those things make me dizzy usually. I still have never bought a game platform - ever. Meanwhile, if there is a comic or novel that's any good, it may make me reconsider buying action figure tie-in products like SOTE did.
I can't speak to that right now, though.

In the meanwhile, I'd prefer to write fiction from my own worlds I create, rather than travel around someone else's in the LucasArts commercialization of their dream. If someone's going to get paid, better me than them. But honestly, I don't go creative for the money (I've not been paid yet anyway). I do it for the challenge and there's no parameters or guidelines where you can't go "further off-screen." With my imagination I can go anywhere I want. I'd also rather do that then try and recreate more dioramas from TFU as well.

As far as I've planned, it just isn't happening here.

Wow couldn't have said it any better myself! I'm looking forward to the line, and so far it looks great. Well almost...I'm not really happy about the Troopers, i just don't think some things should be touched like giving the Stormies color rankings...a little to PT for my liking. When I said "figures that matter", I meant, I rather have as many canon figures made, as possible. And, the big man himself has said the Force Unleashed, will be canon. Reportedly, this is not the only place these characters will be seen in. It's rumored, that they will appear in the live-action show, but that's just a rumor, right now.

As for the "Ice Cream Guy", as far as I know, he's still a no-name. To my knowledge, in no novel, comic, movie, ec. is this person mentioned. And why all the noise about a, IMO, crap character??? He's onscreen maybe, what, 3 seconds. Really why?

this is not directed at anyone in particular, I just keep seeing this word come up...

the whole 'canon' thing I just don't understand...it's like people can't even think for themselves when it comes to Star Wars and what George Lucas says is or isn't. I'll make up my own mind thank you and I don't care if it's GL's 'canon' or not...if I don't like it, I don't like it, who the hell cares what he says, I think honestly he's completely OCD and totally off his rocker in so many ways.

So, if these force unleashed figures are canon or not, I simply don't like the looks of them and will not spend hundreds of dollars on something I don't like just because GL says they are 'officially' part of star wars.

For me I'll still only consider the movies canon. But I like some EU. I'll consider TFU EU regardless of what anyone else says. If TFU is canon, then EVERY SW video game could be considered too. (From a certain point of view) heh heh

To me if the product being a comic, novel, video game, pop up book whatever, makes it past Lucan film then it should be considered Cannon, but i also agree that star wars is a fantasy and a place of escape so one should really judge what they like as what is cannon and what is not... So i guess star wars is much like beauty, it's in the eyes of the beholder meaning buy what you like and what you want, and leave the rest. Personally though i hate the whole term cannon...and Geogrie is off his rocker watch the family guy blue harvest interview with him...he seemed like he was high or something, guess viagra is like a mind influenceing drug for older folks like georgie. And if any of you recall there is supposed to be a big announcement about the force unleashed and it's future in FEB. That came from the actor playing Vader's apprentice in the video game...as he said (Or hinted at) he will be playing the character again...so this may mean that the force unleashed is out first taste of the Live action show or maybe a stand alone movie...god only knows.

Oh and for Ice Cream maker guy, if they make him great, if they don't who cares...just as long as they give the ice cream maker thingie he was carrying i'm all good.

I agree as well. There are levels of canon for me, the first being the original films in their original forms, then the SEs, PT and whatever EU that I decide I like. Like anyone else, I pick and choose what I like, I really don't care about what some billionaire in California, who I have never met before, thinks. For Lucas to try to claim that Star Wars is his and his alone, is really robbing credit from a lot of people much more creative than him.

For me, Ralph McQuarrie, Joe Johnston, Phil Tippet, Nilo-Rodis Jamero, etc. are the people who made me love Star Wars as a kid, not Lucas.

Lucas actually said as far as comics, games, etc, that anything went as long as it didn't interfere with what he's done with the movies. To that end, eveything we see from games, comics, novels, etc has to be approved by Lucasfilm. On one of the behind the scenes docs they have on TFU website, they say they went through about 3 or 4 ideas before that found one that Lucas would sign off on. I guess my point is really who's to say what is or isn't canon. The nice thing about all the EU stuff is that you can embrace what you like, and discard that which you may not.

Thats the best thing about EU is you can ignore what you don't like and embrace what you do. As for Fprce unleashed the game isn't out yet, so it's hard to tell what the story may or may not become from it, but from what i've seen, i gotta say i'm impressed, and video games don't impress me easily. I wish that was the case for me, I hardly ever saw them in stores. Wave 1 of the realistic figures were the big time pegwarmers where I was in 2003.

And what do you call Galactic Heroes? Those are kind of an animated style and those are pretty danged popular (although I do think they have peaked).

I don't think I'll skip the line entirely. I like the look of the shadow guards and the female officer, so will probably get those. The Vader's a maybe. It all depends how they look when I see them either in person or in in-hand pics online. And if/when I get the book and or game, if I end up really liking particular characters then I may want them- as long as their figures don't suck.

I do have to agree with the people who've said that the release dates may hurt their sales here. If we haven't played the game or read the book when the figures come out, a lot of us, and the kids whose parents are the 'other' big group of people who buy this stuff, are just going to walk right past it, other than maybe the occasional kid thinking a random figure looks cool, and buying it for that reason.

I think overall I'm less interested in Force Unleashed than I was when it was first announced. It looks cool, but I'll probably rent it before I buy a copy.

Wow, I'm going to be beaten to a bloody pulp for this... lol. I actually plan on buying basically the entire wave. Allow me to explain my reasoning. First of all, some people are clone-a-holics, I'm a jedi-holic. I basically get any interesting new jedi, that would cover the 'apprentice' evo set, and Rahm Kota. I'm also a pretty bad clone-a-holic, though not as bad as some, so there are the troops. It doesn't bother me that I don't know the source material yet, as I usually set up fan fic dioramas, not scenes from the movie. Example, my favorite Jedi is Plo Koon, obviously, so if I only set up movie dioramas, he'd be in a control ship while other jedi are in the arena, sitting in the council chambers, or being blown up. So for me, I guess I'm hasbro's favorite customer, as long as they make it a decent figure (good articulation, and paint app.), and interesting to look at (mold, accessories), if I have the money I'll more than likely buy it.

In fact, some of my favorite waves in recent memory/up coming waves, would be: Wave 5- 30 AC, TFU Wave-2008, Wave 3- 2008.

While I tend to think star wars is going in the wrong direction, there are lots of people who don't and who love the new ideas coming out which means the franchise lasts longer and that means more figures from hasbro which always means more OT stuff for Deoxy  So it's all good, all good!

I could care less about Force Unleashed at this point, but I want to have new figures in my diorama set ups - and different ones to boot.

You're entitled to your opinion, but I just don't see it. It's that silly half-naked, goth-chic that's annoying me so bad. Probably one of the most "un-Star Wars" designs I've ever seen in an action figure.

She's going to make for good custom fodder for me for my outlander diorama.

To me though, she reminds me of the skinny female fans I've seen at conventions. More of a home made costume than SW character.

Maybe Hasbro will make a figure next of that guy who every year to Comic-Con wears a Spider-Man costume that's about six sizes too small, with no underwear.

If you've been to Comic-Con, you know who I'm talking about. You may want to strike the image from your memory, but you cannot. You have nightmares about it months later.

I'll pic up a few of these, namely Juno (X2 or 3) & some of the Jedi along with black Royals. They all will end up as custom fodder in some manner or another.

They made a Juno figure?

Is there going to be a Paulie figure? I could customize him easily into George Michael Bluth, and my Arrested Development action figure collection could be up to one figure!

Even better if they throw in a Mark figure I can customize into Michael, and have two figures!

Yeah, Juno's last name is Eclipse I think, she's the female Imperial Officer.

I have to admit, I was planning on skipping this line but the EVO Trooper and Jump Trooper look too cool to pass up. They look like troopers I've seen in the Imperial Sourcebook for West End's Star Wars roleplaying game.

The rest are an easy pass. Maris Brood looks like Asaj Ventress' little sister and Battle Damaged Vader looks like a cross between a Borg and a Sontaran.

Another attempt by Hasblo and Luca$film to wring more money from an exhausted line. I'll be saving for the AT-TE and more worthy vintage style figures. And I'm skipping the Battle Packs entirely this year. Why buy what I already have? No repacks, no repaints, nada.

I have to admit that so far the unleashed line is the only thing besides the AT-TE and the Falcon that I am excited about for 2008. Everything else just looks the same so I am happy for the variety. I am not expecting anything from the game but some fun factor and the figures just look fun.

I picked them all up but wasn't impressed by the Obi and Ani. I got Ani for $1.24 on Target clearance, as well as Yoda, I wanted their accessories, but they're really rancid figures. Those were all too much GI Joe'd, taken outside the source material. At the same time, the Clone Wars line also gave us the fantastic Asajj Ventress figure, and deluxe Durge with Swoop is a really nifty figure as well.

Do you mean Maris Brood, BigB?

Wow, that name makes her seem even more trite.... "Her name is Maris Brood because she's mysterious and brooding. Look at her, she wears a bicycle innertube for bra! That's hot! And did we mention mysterious and brooding? Like Winona Ryder on crystal meth... with a lightsaber. 'Diluting the franchise?' What's that? Look how cute she is with her solid black hair and Nightmare Before Christmas complexion! Like that goth-chic from high school, you know the one. 'Throwing a hot dog down a hallway?' What does that mean?"

Please don't insult The Nightmare Before Christmas. Whether emo kids have claimed it or not, it's still a damned fine movie.

Which is more than I can say for at least 1/3 (if not 1/2) of the Star Wars series.

I gotta say, I feel like I'm in a little fix. I'm a member of one of those "one of each" clubs and as such, I guess I'm getting one of each of the FU figs. Now, the Vader and female imp look cool and I'm okay with the shadow guard (after all, I've already got shadow-everything else) but I don't think I really care about the rest of this line. I am a little torn I guess because I played the KOTOR games, loved 'em, and bought the Revan and Malak figures and am looking forward to future characters from the games. Likewise with SOTE, I would love to see a new Dash Rendar and others after all these years. Even if I skip the FU wave, play the game and love it, it seems like there'd be no going back and getting them six months later after I've played the game.

After seeing the hi-res photos of this line, I don't even want to step into a Wal-Mart between now and 2009. I'd rather armybuild Kenner's aborted Mongo Beefhead, than spend a single penny on this tripe.

That's beginning to be a draw for me as well, and I never even had any GI Joe figs back in the day. Well, not the 3 3/4" ones.

It's actually kind of nice knowing that I don't even have to start thinking about new figures until the end of July.

Six months ago I was going to Wal-Mart at least once a day hunting down new figures. Now, I've been to Wal-Mart once in the last three weeks and that was because I needed a new computer chair.

If this is what it's going to be like when the line is finally cancelled, then I can't wait for Hasbro to pull the plug.:D

I agree with BigBarada. I don't miss frantic toy runs.

I haven't gotten any 2008 figures yet primarily because I haven't tried.

I have a cough and I stayed indoors where it's warm and plan on doing so until I'm better. To get the new figures, I have to stake out the 24hr Wal-Mart and wait for them to bring the toy pallets out sometime between 10pm and 2am.

The figures in the current lineup are not that exciting enough to make me want to do this. When I feel up to it, I'll go and pick 'em up.

I got the cool new vehicles from HTS.com delivered right to my door. I can't order the 2008 figures because I want 5 of a certain one and they only let you order 1 at a time and I just don't want to worry about receiving 5 packages.

well i've just looked at hi-res loose pics of this line over at RS and I'm totally underwhelmed. The only one even remotely interesting to me is the EVO stormtrooper dude. the design seems reminiscent of the trooper Ralph McQuarrie painted in the pre-production art of ANH.

Seeing as how this game isn't coming out until September now, I'm not sure how most people are supposed to get excited about these. I mean... I'm into it, but only because I know it'll be a fun game. Just the same, there's nothing much going on to make anyone excited about these characters.

I'm sure the game will be great. But I'd rather stick to figures from the movies. Just my opinion. And true to my word, I've seen these in the stores several times and didn't even think twice about my decision of not getting them. Just not interesting to me. I would rather spend my money on upcoming GG busts and statues or food, or clothes or make-up

I've seen some of them, but I did think twice about getting one. I want to like these figures. I guess I do like them, just not enough to buy one. I might pick up the jumptrooper, which reminds me a little of the trooper seen in space outside the Death Star hangar bay in ANH.

These figures just don't go with anything I have out on display, really.

doh!! Some of us that actually want some of these haven't even seen them yet!

I was only going to buy Maris (apparently there are light skinned and ash covered skin versions) and the 2 different troopers but I might get Rahm Kota (i'm a sucker for any Jedi figures) and maybe even Juno Eclipse.

Figs, next time I see them, I'll pick 'em up for ya. If you already have them by that time, no biggie, I shall take them back. I'd stash, but I mentioned in LA area thread that I didn't think you guys would want to drive all the way down here for them  ;) It would be like paying 12 bucks a figure with the way gas is and all, yikes!

I picked up a couple of figures from this wave (Maris and Jump Trooper) just for the sheer novelty factor, and for the fact that it was a nice break from buying my fiftieth Ani, Obi, or clone trooper. I picked up the original SOTE figs before I read the book or played the game, and didn't think they were all that awesome at the time, but afterward I was glad I got them. Even if the game and novel suck eggs, right now, I'm just picking up characters that have a degree of novelty to them. Same with the sith Evo set. I imagine TFU wave is pretty popular out here in this area (or the scalpers think it will be), because most of the TFU stuff that gets put out fanishes pretty quickly.

Seeing the figures in the stores did get me off on a long thought process, wondering just how far the "Expanded Universe" can be allowed to expand before I just start feeling like the SW logo is being used to push crap to try to empty out my wallet. I don't feel it's there yet, but there comes a point when the Star Wars feel starts to get lost, and I don't want to keep buying after that happens.

I had a hard enough time trying to be a completist with the prequel trilogy figs. I must confess I liked very little of the prequel trilogy itself, but at least the figures came from SW movies, and it was easier to buy them than unfamiliar EU figs...

I was fully intending to skip this whole line, but I was surprised to find three of them at TRU yesterday (even more surprised, seeing as I haven't even seen wave 1 yet.... I'm actually only just starting to see last year's wave 5 in most places!!!).... they had Rham Kota, Maris Brood and Juno Eclipse. Maris looked like total junk, and Juno was pretty boring (plus each one I looked at seemed to have a big gap in the waist joint), but Rham looked cool, and he'd had some rave reviews, so I picked him up.

I'm quite impressed with him.... not overly excited, but he's a nice addition to the collection. Decent sculpt, great articulation, and I like all the removable pieces - just a shame the shoulder armour is glued on.

But that's it..... no more Force Unleashed for me! I must be strong and start saving for that Falcon!!

I was on the fence about Rahm until I saw him. He turned out to be a pretty easy pass for me. If he were more "samurai" than just a few token details, I would've had to have picked him up. But he's just a Jedi with a couple of pieces of armor and a silly scabbard.

Maybe I'm spoiled and want samurai-influenced characters to look either really samurai-esque or hardly at all (like Vader).

saw a load of maris and rahm figs in TRU t'other day. wasn't impressed. the pose on maris makes her look like she's broken her spine and Rahm is ridiculous looking with those massive shoulder things.

TRU had a deal on, spend 25 on star wars toys and get a free McQuarrie Luke. I was thinking perhaps they should have put the FU figs on that deal instead.

The Maris pose doesn't bother me, I get what they were trying to do. What DOES bug me is that her saber blades are the length of normal sabers. In all the pictures you see of her, the handles on the sabers are longer, and the blades are about 2/3 the size of normal sabers. I really wish they'd made them look more like the pictures. Also, her hands don't hold the sabers very well, and her left arm can't hold the saber flush with her arm, which annoys me.

I still like the figure, though...I stand among the few that enjoy the chance to grab something figure-wise that hasn't shown up in any other form thus far...
