That Rancor ticks me off sooo bad!

Hopefully we'll see it retooled and rereleased as an ROTJ Rancor soon.

I also saw the Rebel Pilots Evolutions set. I never dreamed we'd get an SA Ten Nunb in a million years! This is just getting better and better all the time!

Yeah, I have to assume they'll repaint it to our needs, the straps are removable on this. And I agree, gotta repaint it to ROTJ.

Don't worry I understand firsthand what it's like to come back from an event with a digital camera full of hundreds of photos and to have to throw together a presentation for a website within just a few hours. Only I think your guys' job is a lot more tedious, since you have to make sure to photograph everything from as many angles as possible.

Anyways, I can't wait to see the rest of the pictures.

WHY THE F'ING BLUE COAT?!? Stupid damnit to hell in an assbasket! We've got unequivocal proof that it's not blue, the main figure we have is brown, but the hood-up look is blue? That suuuucks!

And build-a-C-3PX, seriously? Granted, he's got a ton of guns, but c'mon. Hopefully this is the non-chrome proof-of-concept we need to get a decent C-3PO sans chrome.

At least now that they have one made, maybe they'll repaint it someday. As for Grievous, he certainly looks taller. I'll have to see how his articulation is though.

Lots of awesome looking stuff. The AT-TE looks quite impressive. We finally are getting a Yarna. The build-a-figure looks interesting. The animated figures don't look as bad as I thought they might, mainly because I like the animation style better than the previous Clone Wars animation. Lots of cool new figures in the Comic Packs. We'll be able to cross quite a few things off the lists we have been compiling in the various polls.

I like the Han set. Blue coat is the way to go. Been tat way since the vintage day.Yes, that's a good reason to keep it blue, someone screwed up back in the day so let's carry that forward. While we're at it, we should really go back to calling 4-LOM "Zuckuss" and Zuckuss "4-LOM" as well. And Luke's lightsaber should be either coming out of his arm or a stick with a flat handle. And Han should have a HUUUUUGE head. And Ponda Baba's body should be entirely unrelated to the film, since we're being slavish to the vintage line. :p

Sweet crap, what a ton of stuff, and most of it looks absolutely amazing!!!

I'm liking those Clone Wars a little more after seeing them more. I'll probably end up buying this line; if I got comic-colored figures, I can get these, I suppose. They look to be very well done but I just would've preferred realistic style. Rex's face looks very bizarre though, like he's eating something sour.

The AT-TE is BEAUTIFUL. Thank the maker it isn't animated style (which I guess wouldn't be too far off). It's ginormous, and looks to be more or less in scale. It includes a clone trooper figure, which I assume will be animated.

The Spider Droid looks fantastic as well; I can't wait to get that bad boy. The shape of the V-19 is off but I guess it's just the positioning.

In the Legacy Collection (they must be running out of names), the IG Lancer droid looks to be the more-accurate black. It looks like they actually sculpted Padmé's cheek mole, which is insane. It almost looks like Vader has sculpted eyebrows, which I really hope he doesn't. Yarna looks really great; I still can't believe they finally made her. The card art is kind of bizarre but I like how the two lines are similar.

I find it odd that they're extending the build-a-droid concept to a whole extra line. Blue coat Han - at this point, why? I see they used the same hood thing on a brown coat Han in what I assume is an Echo Base Battle Pack; I really wish they wouldn't keep doing both colors every time they make one. I also can't really see the need for another R-3PO, just to give him knee articulation. The Plo Koon looks to be the ROTS one with a green saber for whatever reason; I like how they made his Starfighter droid, though.

The Rancor actually looks quite good. The rider's design is sweet.

The Padmé Evolutions set - wow, just awesome. I really never expected the ROTS one. She looks a little un-pregnant, though, and I can't tell if she has the Japor snippet. The Geonosis one is awesome, even though it's another resculpt, and I can't believe they added the deleted scene hood. I like the TPM one too but her face is kind of funky on the prototype.

The female and snowspeeder pilots look really good; I'm glad they're not reusing the Zev body for him. Ten Nunb, mark three . . . unnecessary, but done well.

I assume those Hoth figures are from a Battle Pack? It looks sweet. Brown hood-up Han, awesomely repainted probe droid, undamaged K-3PO, new R5, and yet another Hoth Chewie (4 out of 5 ain't bad, though).

The Comic Packs all look quite good, too. The white Vader is way cheesy though. That Leia with Xizor is pretty damn sexy . . . for a figure, y'know. Blue Dengar is pretty damn bizarre, but still awesome (since it's Dengar, of course). Two green, comic-color Mandalorians is a bit much. That Leia looks like the 1998 one; pretty lazy if you ask me. The rest look pretty well-done.

Even with the apparent lack of basic figures, there seems to be more than enough new stuff to go around. I think everyone should be pretty happy with at least a few of these things; I'm happy with nearly all of it. :D

Thanks for the hard work on all the cool pics, everyone! I really appreciate your effort for our hobby.

I liked a few of the figs shown:

Yarna
Balor
Awing with correct helmet (yes!!!)
Hoth Han (Hood up) variant (but as part of the droid factory?!?)
Videogame Rancor
Animated Grievous
Realistic Clone gear General Kenobi

Aside from a hanful of items, I will be passing on most this year. EU, repaints and animated figures do not get me excited.

Last year I was pumped for the Animated figures such as Bossk and Snowtrooper - nothing shows this year has given me that same level of anticipation, I am afraid to say - aside from Yarna and Balor

For me the standouts are:
Yarna
A-Wing with Arvel Crynyd
Bane Malor
Sandstorm Han Solo
Ewok w/ Wokling
Galactic Heroes Dewback
AT-TE, of course
Homing Spider Droid
SA Ten Nunb

That's my preliminary "must buy" list.

I also have zero interest in the Comic Pack EU figures. I won't buy a single one of those.

I'm surprised to see a little more than I was expecting to be into. There's still plenty that gets my ire up, but lots more that seems decent. Just in time too, Hasbro kinda deflated my interest in the line over the last 2 months.

I like most of what I've seen. The Evo and Comic Packs look great. I'm not thrilled with the animated CW but I may get the Grievous and the Cody(though I'd rather have him in the realistic style). I will be getting all of the vehicles, and the OT, and real-style CW waves. The build a droids, I'll get for the droids, and the Battle packs will be pick and choose as usual. I feel broke already and this stuff isn't even out yet.

Hey, can anyone tell if that dengar is a repack from saga line?

First off...thanks as always to the hard-workin' gang at SSG in getting the news and picks to us so quick!

Okay...just looked at the presentation slides and....

TOO MANY EXCLUSIVES!!!! that end up at box stores that are not accessible to everyone.
I'm glad the comic pack exclusives are un-numbered...I've been enjoying this series a lot but have not found any of the exclusive ones...but I'd love to have the ROTS ones...but since my local WM is a third-tier store the NEVER gets exclusives, I'll never see them. And the Order 66 thing at Target AGAIN! Great...this round actually has a figure I really want(Tsui Choi) that I can only hope gets re-released on a card someday....since I only get to a target once or twice a year...3 hours is too far to drive on the chance of getting these (tried that a few times with the last round of Order 66 and came up empty)...

I'll tell you what's right with what's wrong for me...this will be the year I don't concern myself with getting each and every single carded figure anymore. I'm liking some of the "Legacy" entries, but the CW ones (other the Grievous) look too kiddie/gimmick-laden for my taste(who knows...maybe in "person" not so bad but...)

And yes, it does look like the re-tool/re-paint express is on overdrive this year...and not for the better (does anyone really plan to buy the horrible candy-striper Rancor?)

And finally...while the AT-TE looks like a great new vehicle, why did it have to end up with a garish paint scheme? Couldn't a nice basic-deco'd one (ala AOTC or ROTS)come out first and then the parade of carnival repaints could commence? It's gonna be tough for me to want to part with a C-note for something that's looking more like a circus wagon instead of a massive mobile weapon...

I'd guess it's safe to say that the focus at Hasbro this year will be mainly Indy and the new CW...totally understandable, but...the occasional bone tossed towards the loyal older collector in this line-up (Yarna, Ewok/Wokling, etc.) is going to make it easier for this collector to shift focus away from the basic action figures....

Okay, rant over...at least the 30 Anniversary was fun for older collectors with so many great basic figures...

Might be missin' the SW bus this year...except for the comic packs and...

Darth Talon (yeah she's part of a comic pack but she deserves special mention)

Yarna

Ewok and Wokling

B-Wing Pilot

Spider Droid (I'm down for anything from AOTC)

and yes, I'll check out the AT-TE and hope that shot of it is a proto...and that the real deco is much less severe (please oh please)...

Studio Shots: Evolutions (http://photos.sirstevesguide.com/showgallery.php?cat=5576)

A different look at the Padme and Pilots evos. AOTC Padme has a huge crotch piece.

So the build-a-droids will only start with the Droid Factory 2packs, and then there will be droid pieces in every wave of basic figures as well. Not a bad idea I guess, even though they're totally generic repaints of each other, and one of those has the jets with flames.

I am pretty sure that's a straight repaint of the Saga Dengar.

And finally...while the AT-TE looks like a great new vehicle, why did it have to end up with a garish paint scheme? Couldn't a nice basic-deco'd one (ala AOTC or ROTS)come out first and then the parade of carnival repaints could commence? It's gonna be tough for me to want to part with a C-note for something that's looking more like a circus wagon instead of a massive mobile weapon...Uhhh, garish paint scheme? Folded up, it's got only like 4 more red stripes than the AOTC colors, and the front is actually missing 2 red boxes.

I like a lot of this stuff. I won't touch any of it except for the ROTJ wave (which I commented on in another thread) and some of the Evolutions packs, but they look great. Though I think Hasbro missed an opportunity by using a resculpt AOTC Padme for the set, but the TPM one more than makes up for it. The AT-TE looks great, and I wasn't expecting the Spider Droid. This is going to be a big year.

Battle Packs & Evolutions (http://photos.sirstevesguide.com/showgallery.php?cat=5554) uploaded. TPM Padme in the evo set is way unfinished, missing a forearm and an entire arm. The pose on ROTS Padme looks like a zombie. :D

I can forgive the pose...it'll be a nice set. But that packaging...UGH! Tell me that's just proto...it looks plain and unfinished.

What "battle Pack" is the sweet-looking Probot with? I like the new deco a lot....

JediTricks
02-17-2008, 12:16 AM
Sadly, that is pretty much the finished packaging, and I totally agree, looks incredibly plain and lifeless and unfinished. And blue is a notoriously poor-selling color for packaging.

It's the Hoth one with brown-coat Han hood-up, snowy Chewie, R5-M2, and K-3PO "clean".

Are there pics here of the slideshow? There's some pretty interesting stuff in there as well, including the other Droid Factory sets - including post-Yavin battle damaged R2-D2! Luke's face looks goofy, though, and I don't know why they released the shirtless Kit Fisto with a robe (to fit in his ship, maybe?). Watto almost looks new; maybe it's the paint.

For the comic packs, it looks like Lando's getting the Marvel treatment. There's also a Kashyyyk clone that looks like a Barc trooper (I remember seeing them a long time ago) and a re-release of the ever-crappy first ROTS Anakin.

Are there pics here of the slideshow? It turns out, no. I misunderstood Steve on that matter, he had the Hasbro studio shots instead. The strange part is, they made everybody in attendance check every single electronic item before seeing the slideshow, no way to get a copy. We'll work on getting them though.

And you know what? I just poured over all your great shots of it again...dang it! This does look good.
Real good....Steve did a good job of capturing it in a "real" existence. Hasbro's imagery department is odd about that, they generally either embellish its looks better than it really is or horribly worse. :p

Anyway, thanks for the compliment. I just straighted up a minor disaster with AF's transformers coverage. For a guy who isn't into Transformers, Steve shoots a pretty mean robot. Definately gonna get:
AT-TE
Homing Spider Droid
ROTJ Wave (Yarna finally and Death's Head Ewok)
TFU Rancor (looks cool, want a re-made ROTJ Similar one though)
Most of the Realistic Clone Wars Wave
The Build a droid set with Watto
Probably the BP with Probe Droid
ANY OT Galactic Heros (not much by the looks of it)
The Amidala and Fett Evos

All in all this year looks good. Some important stuff to fill out the ol collection, some un-expected coolness and mostly a bunch f other stuff I don't want and therefore won't spend any money on. The perfect year for cutting back but still getting a few really cool items (AT-TE, Yarna, HSD, and finally Amidala from Palpy's office)

I have tears in my eyes.... seeing Yarna that beautifully done in 3.75" scale feels like a HUGE victory for SSG (and Jargo in particular - congrats, Old Bean).

Other things I'm in love with as of now include:

Evolutions sets - Rebel Pilots (specifically the Hoth Pilot - unreal), Padme & Fetts
Battle Pack - Hoth with new (and awesome metallic looking) Probe Droid
Basic Legacy Figures - Ewok mom with baby & Bane Malor
AT-TE of course
New A-Wing (but mainly because of the pilot - I'll be selling my red one to recoup a few of the $$$$)

After a long week of wondering if I'm still enjoying this hobby, my interest in the SW line has been rekindled this morning. :pleased:

If that's all Hasbro is showing? No new Transformers, no new Titaniums(except the Bongo), nothing new from the Force Unleashed. This Tf looks like a HUGE DISSAPOINTMENT.

Don't get me wrong the figures and vehicles shown look fantastic, but that was all stuff that was mentioned, in some form or another. I was really hoping to see alot of new Titaniums, Transformers(yes, I one of the few, who like them) and the basic figures. lookin' at these shots again this morning...

(JT and SirSteve better still be asleep dreaming about that nice back massage they're getting from Aayla Secura....LOL...after he & SirSteve's phenomenal job of providing us with such great coverage...year after year, it's SirSteve's photos that end up looking the best and are truly representative of what we can expect to see on the shelves later in the year...

Bravo, men...bravo!

GG:
Speaking of MS. Secura...soooo glad I have that GG bust on pre-order! After more folks get a look at how beautiful this looks, I think she's going to be selling out everywhere...stunning! Now if only we could get a "Quinlan Vos" bust to display her with...

ROTS Anakin...love the pose, the hair is real good...the face? I'll want to see it "in person" before a final decision, but it would make a great companion display piece to the Vader-Reveal bust of a couple years back...

Tusken Raider....WAY cool...

It's odd seeing no TF displays of Sideshow this year...and with LOTR Gandalf up for PPO at $90. (!!!!!), the price jump is probably upon us in the SW line too (as well s Indy). We'll know more on monday when a SW PPO goes up...

Hasbro:
Some quick random thoughts here...
Okay, okay...looking at it again, the AT-TE has got me...it does look pretty cool, and will be the centerpiece of a really great clone display...

Yarna! Yarna! Yarna!!...Some of the folks here must be weeping tears of joy seeing this Jabba dancer finally seeing the light of day as a figure...and she looks pretty good! At last, Oola will have someone to hit the dance floor with...okay. Where are my Tonnika Twins? :)

Ewok and wokling...another step closer to a complete Ewok Village display...thanks, Hasbro!

Spider Homing Droid...I'm actually as excited about this vehicle as I am th AT-TE...it'll look great displayed with the Halfire Droid...

Probot...I know it's a small thing, but I'm really digging the new deco on this one...really glad that orange missile isn't orange anymore.

Build-a-droid....the ONLY one I really want is the Luke/X-wing and battle-damaged R2...great detailing on that one.

Padme Evo pack...I like it....and I'm sure it'll be an easy find compared to other Evo sets...

Comic packs....keep 'm coming! The "Legacy" set with Cade and Talon look really cool....the only sets that look like a step backwards are those "Marvel" ones that look like garishly painted re-packs (like what this line started out with)...but this line is fast becoming a favorite for me...

As for th CW and FU lines....can't say I'm overly excited for these, but there's quite enough on the way to keep me hunting for the year...

And now a moment of silence for Master Replica's absence....

I'm really excited for everything, but I've also got mixed feelings about seeing some of the new stuff. As you may have guessed by my forum name; I was really hoping for an SA Plo Koon from the clone wars line that I can put in dioramas and such. However, as much as I look at them, I just can't make myself like the animated style.

I guess I'll have enough to spend my money on... (2 AT-TEs, TFU line, all the comic packs, the build a droid things, the new order 66 packs, 3 homing spider droids, 3 AT-APS, basically all of the legacy line, and the new evolutions packs, and don't forget the rancor! That, and I still have to find the rest of wave 5 of the 30 AC collection... all I found in my area was roronn corobb).

Yeah, I can't bring myself to like the "semi-animated" line either. Especially with the action features. This line you can tell is geared towards kids.
Luckily there is the "Legacy" for us other collectors so we can continue, though I don't understand how the figures from the first Clone Wars are part of the Legacy line, but I guess that is a good thing.
So Hasbro hasn't totally abandoned us as far as Clone Wars figures matching the numerous ones we have already bought.
I hope the soft goods on Obi-Wan in Clone armor is done better though by the time he hits production. The material looks too see-through, and not right for this figure. I guess I can live with his scowl.

Looks like there is a lot of love put into the Comic figures this year. I'm liking most of what I see.

Acctually I'm probably not what you consider a real "collector" Blue2th. I have no figures in origional packaging. I set up dioramas, and sometimes I even play a game with 20 sided dice (yes, I am... in fact... a looser). I like to fiddle with the figures and see what they're like. I can't really afford proper displays for them either.

I guess I'm SSG.com's black sheep! :crazed:

I'm with you, actually. Except I like to collect the super rare vintage figures and I just can't keep my grimy paws off of them. I spent over $100 on a C-10 vintage Amanaman and I just can't quit picking him up and fiddling with him.

But hey, if I can't enjoy what I'm spending all this money on, then why even bother spending the money? If I wanted an investment, I'd buy stocks.

As for the Clone Wars figures, the more I look at them, the more I think the animated Clonetroopers actually look better than the realistic ones we got last year.

Haven't had time much to post my reactions to what's being shown. Anyway, so far everything looks pretty cool. I'm stoked for Yarna, Bane Malar and Ak-rev. The Ewoks look pretty cool too. I'm really excited for the Racor with rider. The rider looks really neat, and after seeing him I think Hasbro has no reason why they couldn't do a Revwien down the road.:D

What's exciting to me (3 3/4 figs):

Yarna
Bane Malar
Ak-Rev
Ewoks
Quarren Soldier
Mon Calamari Soldier
Saesee Tiin
Clone Obi Wan
IG Lancer Droid
Scuba Trooper
CW Grievous
CW Battle Droid
Durge
Asajj Ventress
Rebel Pilots evolutions (I'm ecstatic Hasbro went and updated Ten Numb, now they need to do a red variant)
Padme evolutions
Fett evolutions
Darth Talon
Admiral Thrawn
Prince Xizor (finally! Where's Guri?)
Homing Spider Droid
Battle Rancor w/ rider (the rider looks real sweet, wish I could get more on basic cards!)

Galactic Heroes:
Shaak Ti
Plo Koon
Slave Leia
Destroyer Droid and Jar Jar (never thought we'd see Jar Jar in a 2 pak.)
Aayla Secura

Order 66:
Comander Sev
Tsui Choi

Can't think of much else right now. Not sure yet how I feel about the Build-a-droid sets. Would like them more if they weren't exclusives. I may pick up just the Jedi sets for their droids but I'm not interested in C3P-X. I'm trying for a $400 dollar budget this year, down from 550 last year. Went over last year by almost 100 dollars. Not as excited about stuff this year so far tho. And I'm not really into the big ATTP Tank thing but that could change once I see it in person.

I just wanted to add my appreciation to SirSteve and JT for their awesome coverage. I stayed up till the early hours to see the first few pics, and still needed a good two hours when I woke up this morning to catch up with the rest. My eyes feel like they've been in a Tatooine sandstorm after staring at the pc for so long, so god knows how you guys are feeling after all your hard work.

I'm liking a LOT of what I've seen....particularly Yarna (of course!) and the wokling, though neither have been high on my personal wants list, so I'm not exactly jumping up and down or counting the days. I'm hoping we'll see more OT figs over the next few days.... now if we see Bom Vimdin, then I will be excited!!

Here's what I'll probably get (or not):

Clone Wars animated - no thanks. The second line I'll be skipping this year after TFU. I do actually quite like them (CW that is - most of TFU look like junk), but I need to cut back, and this seems like a good place to start. I might get the Yoda, as I collect Yodas, but the play feature might kill this one for me.

Vehicles - the AT-TE looks awesome, but I don't collect vehicles, so that's another pass. But I'll want a loose Arvel Crynd.

Legacy Collection Wave 1 (ROTJ) - YES to all!! (Not sure I need Vader, but the build a droid thing will suck me in to getting them all.)

Legacy Collection Wave 2 (CW) - I wanted about half of these, and was undecided about the others..... again I'll probably get them all now because of the droid.

Droid Factory 2 packs - not sure about these, they mostly look like repaints or kitbashes, so probably not.... but I might have to get Luke & R2.

Comic Packs:

Asaaj/Tol Skorr, Anakain/Durge, Darth Talon/Case Skywalker*, Dengar/Fenn Shysha, Leia/Tobbi Dala, White Vader/Leia, Lando/Stormtrooper, Kashyyyk/Wookiee Troopers, Anakin/Dooku - doubt I'll get any of these, though may search out a loose Hoth Leia from ebay.

Antares Draco/Ganner Kieg - no idea who these are, but they look really cool, so I'll probably get them.

Talon Karrde/Thrawn, Xizor/Leia - I might get these, not sure.

Evolutions:

Rebel Pilots - I assume Dorovio Bold is EU(?), so no to her, but might get Janson and Ten Nunb loose (this so should have been Nien Nunb!!)

Padme - the character gets on my nerves (she's no Leia!!), and I'm not wanting every outfit to get made.... but if they make 'em, I'll get 'em!

Fetts / Jedi / Sith - I want all these.

Hoth Battle Pack - this looks pretty cool, so I'll probably get it if I ever see it, if not, I'll at least have to find a hoodie Han.

Order 66 - I just want Master Sev and Tsui Choi, so will look for these loose on ebay.

Glactic Heroes - I want all the 2-packs, and especially like Ki-Adi, Saesee and Plo. Again, any exclusive figures from the BPs I'll pick up loose.

Looking at this list, there's not as much I want as I thought..... I thought there were more comic packs I wanted, maybe I've forgotten some others....

*Can someone enlighten me as to how he fits into the Skywalker family?

Steve and JT... Excellent job of showing us what's coming out! I appreciate all the different angles that you were able to shoot, it really helps to give abetter 'feel' for how the product looks. And I think that your blowing some of the competition out of the water compared to their coverage.

I got to glance at some of the LEGO pics this morning and it looks like we're getting a new Gunship... I really like the "squadron" paint job on it - a kowakian monkey lizard hurling bombs, of course with kill marks on the side. Looking forward to it.

I hope that the paint apps on the figures that are sent to retail look as good as these in the pics... the wash given to the clones gives a nice used look without all the spray that we've gotten on fig's like sand troopers.

What race of figure is the rider on the Battle Rancor; I haven't been able to figure it out.

edit: Some of the females look freakin' hot - The Assajj / Dooku statue, and Darth Talon.

Cade Skywalker is Luke's grandson or great-grandson.

I hope the driods that get made from the Droid Factory are later released in another way. I don't see myself buying all those fig's to get those parts. And to think that for most of the last 13 years Hasbro hasn't been able to come up with with a decent mail away offer... I'm glad we have Rex for now tho.

Wow the Legacy Line i'm all good with. The Wookling looks awesome and i hate ewoks but that's just to cool to pass up! Yarna, not one of my personal wants, but she looked like a solid figure. The Sandstorm figures looked great as well, even though they are pointless. All the Micro Series Clone Wars stuff looks great, I can't wait for these!

Then there's the Clone Wars stuff...Ouch. I will get Grievous...if he's in scale. Only if! The Battle Droid, The Clone Troopers, I will get if they have articulation which they look like they do. But other than that the line looks like trash.

At-te thingie looks cool, i just don't get many ships so i will have to pass on this thing. It looked great though, freakin huge. Though i may change my mind...but no more than one.

Galactic Heroes, i will get Aayla...that's it. I don't collect these. Aayla is my favorite character from the PT...so yeah she's gold.

Indy though...totally different story.

I took a minute to look over at Sideshow, since they're not at TF (read somewhere in here about Gandalf on preorder for $90 - ouch!). Anyway, they're supposed to make 3 announcements during TF. At the top of their page they have 5 silohuets (can anyone help me with spelling?): 1/6 Gandalf and 1/4 John Wayne are revealed, but it looks like they have Indy in his fedora, and next to Gandalf it looks like the silhouette (there we go!) of a clone trooper, possibly AOTC era.

Those 'loser' Ewoks are Leektar & Nippet. No points for guessing which is which.Yet again, two Ewok characters who sound like they've been named by Jim Henson.Leektar is the main guy, he's an existing one (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Leektar), and yeah, Ewoks are all kinda named like muppets. Nippet is kinda obviously gonna be the wokling with a name like that. ;)

Great pics, but, is that just the preview night??? Please don't tell me that's the whole Hasbro set-up?

If that's all Hasbro is showing? No new Transformers, no new Titaniums(except the Bongo), nothing new from the Force Unleashed. This Tf looks like a HUGE DISSAPOINTMENT.This is "it", there's not even a chance to go back and see more if they add it because of the unusual way they're doing these presentations. I am a little annoyed that Titaniums got totally shafted here, that will be a topic of conversation in the next Q&A, I can assure you. As for SWTFs, it is a little odd that they brought only the new Obi-Wan/JSFep2, and the new unattractive SWTF packaging - man, that one is the worst of all the new packaging, looks like a reject from the miniatures game.

Don't get me wrong the figures and vehicles shown look fantastic, but that was all stuff that was mentioned, in some form or another. I was really hoping to see alot of new Titaniums, Transformers(yes, I one of the few, who like them) and the basic figures. That wasn't really anything special, the last 2 years Hasbros TF booth has been abit of a letdown. This isn't a booth, it's their own display location in a different building, not in the main show. It's a really odd way to do it, they're shuttling buyers and media in via appointment. I do think they brought "more" for Star Wars than last year though, they usually cop out with TF. And keep in mind, SW is sharing team space with Indiana Jones too, so it is shared.

As for already being mentioned, this is the folly of rumors, they get a lot right eventually but some are just playing roulette wheel games picking numbers at random, eventually it will come up, so it's hard to know which rumors are BS and which are true, then when the true ones are up it's a letdown because you expected it.

(JT and SirSteve better still be asleep dreaming about that nice back massage they're getting from Aayla Secura....LOL...after he & SirSteve's phenomenal job of providing us with such great coverage...year after year, it's SirSteve's photos that end up looking the best and are truly representative of what we can expect to see on the shelves later in the year...I was sleeping, but at 11am EST, I can assure you Steve was back out there getting more shots.

It's odd seeing no TF displays of Sideshow this year...and with LOTR Gandalf up for PPO at $90. (!!!!!), the price jump is probably upon us in the SW line too (as well s Indy). We'll know more on monday when a SW PPO goes up...Sideshow's anti-TF is totally lame IMO, and I had no idea there was an LOTR Gandalf PPO until your post, that's ridiculous! I preordered even though I didn't think the likeness was there and the price is an outrage - I can always cancel later. I really hope SSC doesn't think they can trend this line that direction with SW, it's barely holding the line as it is.

Has anyone else noticed that they did a better job on the CW Grievous' four-armed mode than they ever did with any of the ROTS four-armed Grievouses?Absolutely I did! I think part of the blame lies with Lucasfilm giving incomplete and inaccurate preview data on the character when Hasbro was designing him before the movie's release.

I got to glance at some of the LEGO pics this morning and it looks like we're getting a new Gunship... I really like the "squadron" paint job on it - a kowakian monkey lizard hurling bombs, of course with kill marks on the side. Looking forward to it.Oh man, Steve's shots of that sticker made my laugh my butt off, that lizard monkey on the side is such a fantastic touch, great art!

I hope that the paint apps on the figures that are sent to retail look as good as these in the pics... the wash given to the clones gives a nice used look without all the spray that we've gotten on fig's like sand troopers.I'm glad someone else noticed that, I meant to comment on it before, but forgot. Yeah, that type of deco looks amazing, it's such a sense of visual depth with these guys without looking like they're filthy dirty slobs. I hope they use it for R2 figs in the future as well.

What race of figure is the rider on the Battle Rancor; I haven't been able to figure it out.Felucian, which explains it, you've never seen one before TFU.

edit: Some of the females look freakin' hot - The Assajj / Dooku statue, and Darth Talon.Yeah, not something I'd normally point out, but I did title the Comic Packs thread something with "sexy Leia". Hasbro and GG have babe-factor this year I guess.

No one seems to have mentioned the great products shown for Galactic Heroes!

At last we have more beasts and vehicles:

Darth Vader TIE Fighter
Obi-Wan Kenobi Jedi Starfighter
Tatooine Patrol Dewback
Jabba the Hutt's Rancor Monster
G.A.R.'s AT-RT walker!

(not to mention the Nexu is now included in a set with the Reek)

Plus, JarJar (very appropriate for this kind of kiddie line) is going to be available outside of a battlepack with a bunch of previously released figures. And he's packaged with the first Destroyer Droid for GH, too!

And you've got Slave Leia and Bar2-D2!

Grievous' Magna Droid Guard looks cool, too. As does the new E3 Clone Trooper Pilot, along with Jedi Shaak-Ti and Plo Koon.

But the GH vehicles steal the show! I hope these sell well as I so want:

Slave-One (they can profit from the obvious repaint)
AT-AT
reg. TIE Fighter
Republic Gunship

Acctually I'm probably not what you consider a real "collector" Blue2th. I have no figures in origional packaging. I set up dioramas, and sometimes I even play a game with 20 sided dice (yes, I am... in fact... a looser). I like to fiddle with the figures and see what they're like. I can't really afford proper displays for them either.

I guess I'm SSG.com's black sheep! :crazed:
That's cool, a lot of people here at SSG aren't what you could call a real "collector" and alot have sold their collections, but are still here because it's a cool forum, and they're into Star Wars etc.

Myself, I enjoy the loose figures more these days, like a lot people here.
Sure I've got some mint in the box/card etc.

I know I won't be buying any of the new Star Wars stuff for their cards this go around, because I don't like the easily damaged probably taped up helmet cards, much like Revenge of the Sith.

It won't stop me from buying them for the loose figures (realistic style) though. Lots of cool stuff hitting the shelves this year.

Well. oerall I am pleased with most of TF. I dont like the animated figs, so I am going to passon them. For this year it seems I will be getting:

Comic packs

Leia/White Vader
Hoth Leia/Whats his name
Dengar/other person
Karrde/Thrawn
Lando/Stormie

Battlepacks
Both Hoth sets

Evo sets
Padme
Rebel Pilots
Sith(newer one)
Jedi
Fetts

Legacy Line
Just about all of them. I probably will pass on the deleted scene figures, they dont do anything for me.

Vehicles
AT-TE(2?)
Homing Spider(2?)

Galactic HEroes
These were the biggest surprise. I am actually looking forward to a few of the BP's and some of the eicles. I am gassed for the Geo creatures. They look cool. I missed them in the Playskool line. TheEndor one looks great. I loike the extra speeders and the Ewoks. The 2 packs look like they have pretty sweet line up.

Titaniums
Not much here shown, but I will get whats not repainted for the most part.

What I see of Toy Fair has left me awefully un-inspired. If this is the new direction of Hasbro, I just can't see myself as dedicated to the hobby. There wasn't much OT shown. I really dig the battle damaged R2. Yarna, well that makes me happy. But there was just so much EU that even me as fan of EU thought enough already. The droid factory is a good concept, I'm just hoping future waves will have droids that I can find on film. What a better opportunity to get these guys in plastic? Of vehicle releases I have to saw I was impressed. Especially getting two that I wanted since Aotc came out.

For the most part I'd say I'm a completist, and I'm honestly on the fence if I will even buy any of the clone war figures. For those of us in it for the long hall what do we have near 1000 'different figures? Having an appearance that doesn't interact with a previous figures is essentially the same as changing the scale. I just hope as 'new' characters come out Hasbro will take steps to make sure they look realer so they can interact with everything else I've bought previously.

I read on another site, sometimes SSG poster Mark2d2 post something that I thought was brilliant. I can't find it now so I will summarize his thought. He pointed to the Hasbro press release from 2/14 titled 'Hasbro Sets Sights on Next Generation of Star Wars Fans' and then went on to point out that they better because they're taking the steps to lose the previous generations.

Sorry but that whole FU Rancor package looks like it belongs in a Mardi Gra parade, not SW...crazy deco and the rider looks like rejected carnival dancer from some musical. Does it have extra beads-accessories to toss out to the revelers during the parade? Terrible...
Add this to the bad-perm bantha still stacked waist high at TRU and it makes me really glad I picked up these two beasts back in the '90s during their original, far superior looking releases...

Banthaholic, they are already "losing me," in some ways.

I was there for all of KENNER's vintage days and had almost everything.

I started on POTF2 in 1995 and am only missing things I deliberately skipped. I got everything I wanted - with some effort sometimes. But I succeeded.

I am not re-purchasing stuff I already have even if they make marginal improvements.

For example, a Darth Vader with 3 piece removeable helmet? My Vaders are displayed with the helmet either on or off. I don't need partial reveals for my scenes. No sale. Yeah it's cool. But I just don't want to find the space.

Now the AT-TE? I'm all over that. As for EU figures, comic 2-packs? There are some I won't buy (Marvel) but many others I'm super-excited for as I don't have anything like a Talon Karrde action figure. SOLD!

So they are keeping me around with some product, and not others. I may or may not get the hero sandstorm figures, for example. Without confirmation of a new Falcon to put them in, forget it. I don't need them.

The less I buy, the more proud of myself I am.

Fallucian / Mardi-Gras Parade....Does it have extra beads-accessories to toss out to the revelers during the parade?

That'd be sweet as maybe this figure could convince my Aayla Secura figure to take her top off! :crazed:

A lot to look at, and as I'm wandering through photos again this evening, here are my random thoughts on what we’re seeing from Hasbro...

Clone Wars basic figures: I genuinely liked the idea the first time around, and though the animated style figures were really just little statues (inaction figures), they were fun. I didn't buy them all though, and was sick of seeing them after a while... so that's how it'll go this time also I suppose. I like the look of some, but don't care for the action features at all. I'll probably pick up R2 and Grievous... not sure about the rest.

Clone Wars vehicles: Umm, well, now we're talkin' about something different. I'm not really sure that they should be lumped in with the CW figures, because they're more on par with the "legacy" stuff. Just the same, I love 'em all. The Spider Droid looks good, the Shuttle and the AT-AP look like a lot of fun, and that big old AT-TE looks like a toy that any "kid" would want to have.

Legacy Collection basic figures: A few very nice things, but these I need to see in person before I’m sold. There’s some fun stuff, but it’s all about how well built and painted they are when they finally hit the pegs. With that said, I’m really into the Quarren and the Mon Calamari warriors. Obi-wan in Clone armor has brilliant aspects, and some odd aspects. (I love the angry head sculpt, but hope that the soft goods are much better when finally released.) Yarna, motorcycle helmet space man, and creepy Ewoks are great because they’re obscure. I’ll even buy that Vader if it’s a well made figure... just because I’m a sucker... and because I hated the last removable helmet Vader so much.

Legacy Collection other: I don’t know much about the comic packs, but as always, they look like fun. The Droid Factory packaging is very nice, but I’ll need to decide later if I want to spend the money on this lot of six sets. (I think it’s a cool idea though.) Nice to see a Titanium Bongo Sub! Would like to see some EU ships--maybe video game stuff at this point, but... oh well. Some of the exclusives, including a few of the new Order 66 sets look good. Star Wars Transformers continue to bore and annoy me. The FU Battle Rancor looks like a really fun toy to me, so I’ll buy it, but probably keep it boxed. The Battle packs and Evolutions sets all look good, but Hasbro’s been cheaping out with the paint on these, so I’ll need to see them before I decide. (The Amidala evolution set could be great.)

The rest... Mighty Muggs, Galactic Heroes, Potato Head, Monopoly, and role play are all super boring. Honestly, nothing original or ground breaking there. I’m almost interested in that Starfighter Target Game, but I just can’t see how a kid would want to turn off the Xbox 360 to plug in that little slice of 1995 technology. Oh! The Clone Trooper helmet I like though. That's a fun looking toy... if not a slightly overworked concept at this point. (Enough with the voice changers already Hasbro. Just sell the helmets, and let the kids do their own voice changing. The parents will thank you later.)

All in all, I'm waaaay more impressed by what I'm seeing than I thought I would be, and it really doesn't seem like we're seeing that much. I think I'll be able to pick and choose (like I always do), and come out happy to have found a few gems.

This was the WORST Hasbro toy fair....ever, IMO. There are about 6 figures I want this year....that's terrible - there are usually about three per wave that I normally want.

And, I hate this new packaging. Generic cardbacks seems like such a step back for Hasbro and that is not good - the legacy packaging look is about the worst packaging they have ever done. Its fugly, it does not 'pop' off the shelves.

If this is actually a successful year for Hasbro in terms of sales with the crap they are passing off as SW this year, it really scares me that Sideshow will be the only company I end up buying Star Wars from.

Last year we got Mcquarrie figs, vintage figs (still my fav line), and a cool mix of OT, Prequel and EU - this year, we get 4 classic figs another 4 'offscreen classic' figs (does Han with Sandstorm hair acually excite anyone?!?), mostly animated EU, and realistic EU.....what a bore!

General_Grievous
02-20-2008, 06:14 PM
Matt, I see what you're getting at, but the thing is that Hasbro is running out of OT characters to make. It's not that there's only a handful left, but I think they're just trying to spread them out. They do have the license for another ten years. But it's not just the OT. The movies themselves only have two waves this year in the basic line, but if you ask me, I think Yarna more than makes up for it. I know that sounds cliche and I'm sure most of us are sick of saying it, but man, it's just great to finally be getting her.

I'm pretty excited about the Sandstorm Han figure.:pleased: Mainly because he looks like he would double as an awesome Skiff Battle Han Solo.

And he definitely has a better facial expression than the Saga 2006 Carbonite Han who looked like he was getting a prostate exam from a Huttese doctor.

23. Red-suited human B-Wing Pilot
24. Rebel Dignitaries

29. Ewok glider pilot with the brown fur and white cheeks

16. The Emperor
17. Pruneface (Orrimarko)
18. Wicket
19. Logray
20. Paploo
21. Teebo
22. R2-D2 launching saber
23. Oola
24. Weequay

Again this is just off the top of my head for figures that have never been touched by Hasbro or are terribly outdated compared to the newer releases. You can see that I can easily come up with over 60 action figures and I know that I'm forgetting a lot of characters in Jabba's Palace. So there is no way that we're running out of OT figures to make.

Scalpers don't drive Cadillacs. They drive their mothers' old Buick station wagons.

LOL, so sad but ever so true. I hate scalpers! I have one who is a friend who bought the UGH figures i was missing for 12 bucks a pop while on vacation and he then offered them to me for 20...Gotta love them! I'm looking forward to seeing how the scalpers react to Yarna...She doesn't have pretty gold coins or foil stamped packaging, so will they jump on her like they did the UGH and this first day issue crap hasbro is throwing at us. I guess only time will tell, but the ROTJ line is so good i'm just going to preorder a case of them so i don't have to fight any horders like i have with 08 and Evolution packs...and the UGH (Which i wanted a set of...wanted...Past tense.)

I'm going to do the same and that's pretty much my star wars purchases until after july/august when they tell us what else is coming for the holidays. I'll save on gas too, not having to hunt them down like dogs ;)

They could only do Cantina and Jabba's Palace characters, spread them out, and still keep the line going for the next ten years. And for those of us that like the PT there are many from the Outlander club that can be made as figures.

Yeah, but the Outlander Club is more human women in weird outfits. The Cantina and Palace are mostly funky aliens.

Just off the top of my head these are the figures from ROTJ that Hasbro could still make:

BigBarada, the ROTJ poll is next in MadSlantedPowers' series. I think he starts it on Sunday.

In the "New Giant Scene-By-Scene Poll thread" we practice-write the list of suggested characters that are suggested at the start of each poll and how that poll should be conducted.

You're already posting in and familiar with this thread, so... (http://www.sirstevesguide.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36845&highlight=scene-by-scene)

You should help MSP and post your ROTJ list in this thread so all the suggestions you have might be offered up as possibilities for everyone to vote on. My list covered the most-likely-to-win which I used in the last scene-by-scene poll in 2004-2005.

You still need to decide which 25 are your most-wanted that you're going to rank and vote on, but I think you're one of ROTJ's most dedicated afficianados, so it'll be good to have a starter list from you for Sunday (and your vote for the best 25 of those).

Ugh, that outlander club was ridiculous. Sorry Sal my dear, no offense, ;) it just seemed like it was all thrown together and no thought was made into the background characters. I mean come on, a lady with a red box on her head?? WTF? I did like Anthony Daniels being in the scene and I actually bought that figure, I thought hasbro did a good job on the likeness

In the Most Wanted AOTC thread, the lady with the red box on her head ranked higher than anyone else on my list. Silly idea, but she wouldn't have to be used as a ho-bag at a nightclub, unlike pretty much all the other denizens.

Which is what makes the Cantina infinitely more interesting to me. The terms "sexy" and "Star Wars" just don't inhabit the same parts of my brain, so 'sex appeal' is not even a factor when it comes to which Star Wars characters I like.

Well, that's different, she was actually a character with a role in the movie, not just eye-candy shoved in the background so some sexually frustrated fanboys could get their rocks off.

Wow, you need to work for Hasbro, then be made CEO....nice list! There are some seriously basic kenner figs still never made by Hasbro - woof skiff guard comes to mind! There are many figs made that could stand a serious upgrade: Ponda Baba is one example!

I'm pretty excited about the Sandstorm Han figure.:pleased: Mainly because he looks like he would double as an awesome Skiff Battle Han Solo.

And he definitely has a better facial expression than the Saga 2006 Carbonite Han who looked like he was getting a prostate exam from a Huttese doctor.Agreed! Plus, he's not as shrimpy as that figure. So yeah, I'm looking forward to it and Luke.

I'm going to do the same and that's pretty much my star wars purchases until after july/august when they tell us what else is coming for the holidays. I'll save on gas too, not having to hunt them down like dogs ;)You hunt down a lot of dogs? :D

Well, of course, Carrie Fisher in any OT costume. But, when I posted that, I was operating under the mistaken assumption that BigB was claiming Leia was not dead sexy, so I only mentioned the most blatantly obvious costume.

Embarassing true fact: When I was a bit younger, I watched the garbage compactor scene over and over, hoping that one or two frames would have a "wet t-shirt" effect.

JediTricks

It doesn't, but there is some side-boob action. And Han cops a feel, but Han cops a feel in all 3 films. You can see a lot of leg in her cell block scene. Also, in the SW Chronicles book, the Ewok-village dress gets a little racy, Deoxy knows what I mean. ... not that I've put any thought into this.

Leia's not that sexy in ESB, the closest is the Bespin Escape variant on the jumpsuit and it's hardly a wowzer.

First off, thanks to the SSG staff for the TF coverage. Great job!

But I am beyond underwhelmed at Hasbro's offerings this year. I am almost at disappointed. There are a (very) few bright shiny spots, but about 95% of what I saw just makes me long for another (real) Star Wars movie. I most certainly hope that the following year brings us much better selection. I am pretty much writing off 2008 as a loss.

Those 'loser' Ewoks are Leektar & Nippet. No points for guessing which is which.Yet again, two Ewok characters who sound like they've been named by Jim Henson.

Actually, I bear little or no resemblence to Jim Henson. Leektar was named as a phonetically-simillar tribute to SNES Super Return of the Jedi's famous Wicket-cry: "Yee-cha!"
