Fox has a couple of spin-offs apparently in the works.

"Family Guy's" Cleveland Brown might be getting his own show.
Fox and 20th Century Fox TV are developing a spinoff from its hit animated series centered on Peter Griffin's bathtub-accident-prone neighbor, sources said.

The project, tentatively titled "Cleveland," is being written by "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane, Mike Henry -- who voices Cleveland and serves as writer-producer on the series -- and "The Simpsons" alum Rich Appel, executive producer/showrunner on MacFarlane's other animated comedy for Fox, "American Dad."

Cleveland, who plays off black stereotypes, is the most levelheaded among Griffin's trio of friends.

Once canceled by Fox, "Family Guy" triumphantly returned on the network in 2005. It is Fox's top-rated comedy and has grown into a $1 billion franchise with red-hot DVD and merchandise sales.

Fox brass had made it a priority to find another hit animated comedy to complement its Sunday comedy lineup. It has several cartoons in the works, including an animated version of its 2003 short-lived live-action comedy "The Pitts," from "Simpsons" veteran Mike Scully; "Relative Insanity," executive produced by Jack Black; and "Mothballs," from "Drawn Together" creators Matt Silverstein and Dave Jeser.

In addition to "Cleveland," Fox and 20th TV also are developing a spinoff of the drama series "Prison Break," set at a female prison.
MacFarlane and Appel are repped by Endeavor.

Why not make Family guy spin-off with a funny (rather than a semi-humorous) character?

McFarlane is already splitting his time between Family Guy and American Dad. A third show in the mix could be disastrous.

Besides, like Diabolical said, a spin-off of a semi-humorous character won't work. Nor will a character so closely connected to Peter. It would be like a second 30 minutes per week of Family Guy.

If they're doing a spin-off, why not Adam West?

Horrible ideas. Both of them.

Totally agree, this is a bad idea. Some of Cleaveland's sterotypical antics are funny but not hilarious!

I could somewhat see Quagmire working in a spinoff, but really the only characters that could really work on their own would be Stewie and Brian. They've already had a few episodes centering just around them, and they were pretty good, for the most part.

Cleveland is only funny in conjunction with the other characters. and even then the limited time he gets per episode is more than enough. Only way i can see it working is to go back to the days before he had the accident that slowed him down. when he was an auctioneer. a half hour of cleveland drawling and droning on as we know him would send me to sleep.

don't watch prison break but i'm sure busty females behind bars will grab some ratings. even if it's just from the lesbianoids and quagmires of the world..

A teaser trailer for the Cleveland spin-off is now on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fisYzsEBaNM). Its mostly just scenes of Cleveland from random Family Guy episodes, but at least you get the show's presumed theme song a brief glimpse at the end of the other characters that will appear in the spin-off.
