Just made my gut picks.
Me too. And by "gut picks" I mean "put all the #1 seeds thru and then go with Memphis because that's what everyone says to do".:D

Okay, so do we pick the WHOLE bracket or just the first round?? I've never done this before within a group setting, so I don't know how it's done.

i'm in. i feel like i need 2 brackets though, one for if Bill Self's team shows up, and the other more likely one where they choke in the first round yet again.

7 of 8 right now. The one I got wrong didn't matter too much b/c I had the team losing in the next round. So far my picks are looking pretty good with the games that are being played right now.

Kidhuman
03-20-2008, 08:20 PM
I am 6 of 8, but the two teams that advanced on me are out in round 2 in my picks, so it might not hurt to bad if I have the 16 right.

Yes sir.

But wait, YOU picked against Kentucky??? Shame shame. I thought you were their biggest fan?

Sure did, and I AM a huge fan (as you very well know). But even though I love a team, doesn't mean they are going to win. ;) And I was right, thank you very much! But if they did win would I have been upset? Hell no!!! lol

Brackets are more strategy, and luck, so I try to leave my heart out of it and go more with the gut and what scenarios I think are likely.

i basically fill out my bracket but putting KU through to the end, and then just randomly fill in the rest of the blanks. So mine are more heart, all luck and no strategy

So after the first round and play-in game, I'm 24 for 33. Best thing is that I still have 14 of my Sweet Sixteen possibilties left (only Drake and Baylor can't join the fun).

How about changing your name to WesternUKWildcat-Hilltopper for a few games, UKW? ;)

UKWildcat
03-22-2008, 01:00 PM
No kidding. That game was awesome, with an incredible buzzer beater shot. And yes, I did pick WKY to win that one. ;)

Man, after going 15 of 16 on day one, my picks took a dive on day two, going 27 of 32 yesterday. I am sitting in the first place spot (not comfortably) by my lonesome though.

DarthQuack
03-22-2008, 03:59 PM

I am not in the SSG bracket, but so far in the two I am part of things aren't going too well. I have never been great at picking upsets, but so far I have been incorrect on:

the davidson/gonzaga game
the uconn/SD game
the siena/vanderbilt game
the villanova/clemson game
the wku/drake game
the indiana/arkansas game

Well, I guess 6 isnt too bad, as long as the teams I picked that are still playing win.
And yes, I picked WVA to beat Dook. :)

And yes, I picked WVA to beat Dook. :)Pitt's loss hurt because 1) they were an Elite 8 team for me, and 2) it looked like they could do something special this year, giving me a team I root for a chance to go deep in the tourney. J&H, I went 3-3 in those 6 games above (took Davidson, Ark., and Villanova; I debated Siena and WKentucky but never thought UConn'd tank in round 1 [I had 'em losing in round 2 though]). Upsets by their very nature are tough to call.

I still have my Final Four intact (UCLA [Nat'l Champ], Kansas [runner up], Texas, and UNC), plus 7 of my E8 (above plus Georgetown, Tenn., and WVirginia) left.

Well I'm in third place. Not bad for my first online bracket.

I'm still in the running. The West and Midwest brackets killed me though. And I put too much heart into Pitt, than brains. Though I live here in Pittsburgh, so I should be forgiven for that little mistep....lol.

Nope, no forgiveness! I told ya about the heart! I told ya!!! *shakes fist* ;)

Pitt got me a little, I had them winning against Mich. State, but we know how that one turned out.

Its good to hear that you have learned from your mistakes though sal, now maybe you won't be shocked if people make unexpected picks next year, like I don't know, me not picking UK. ;) :D

You know I'm just messin'. I don't have nothin' but love for ya sal.

I am done, lost my Champion pick with G-Town.

My Final Four is still intact, but my biggest concern is that I picked Memphis to cut down the nets. :rehash:

UKWildcat
03-28-2008, 09:20 PM
That Wisconsin loss destroyed my brackets. I should have taken Davidson further, I wanted to... but after a quality Georgetown win I figured they'd bust. Oh well. That is a solid team, that Curry fella is amazing, and I will definitely be pulling for them to beat the Kansas/Villanova winner.

jedi master sal
03-28-2008, 09:34 PM
I'm not doing to bad still. 3 of my Final Four are still in it.

Davidson really surprised me. I guess they will be considered the "Cinderella" team of March Madness.

DarthQuack
03-28-2008, 10:08 PM

CaptainSolo1138

Like most people, Davidson is freakin' killin' me, but my Final Four is still intact.

Bel-Cam Jos
03-29-2008, 10:36 AM
I had half of the Elite Eight... and my Final Four's still there, too; wins by Tenn or WVirginia would have given me 6 of 8. This is the longest I've gone where my overall bracket's been close. Maybe should've gone into some tourney (if only there was one I knew about  ).

But don't foget, Ohio State's going for a nat'l title, too! NIT has the word "national" in it, right?

jedi master sal
03-30-2008, 01:44 AM
I've got 3 of my final four in it. Looks like most of us are picking North carolina to go to the finals, but the overall winner is evenly distributed around. So someone is going to be the clear winner here and no ties.

I'm pretty happy with how I've done so far.

So long as Kansas doesn't make it in and Memphis has a melt-down I'm good to go for the finals.

Bel-Cam Jos
03-30-2008, 08:09 PM
Sorry, Sal. Sounds like your desires were blocked into the front row by a power forward.

Wow, first time ever that all the top seeds play in the Final Four. I have three (UNC, UCLA, Kansas) and could've had Texas (except a little thing like them not winning today  ). I have UCLA topping Kansas for its 12th title, but no other rooting interest.

jedi master sal
03-30-2008, 08:09 PM
Well I still have North Carolina, Kansas and UCLA in the final four.

Bel-Cam Jos
03-30-2008, 08:19 PM
My bad. When I read "finals," I thought you meant the Final Four, not the final game. I owe a sports-related BSLOS as penalty:

"Duh na na na... Hey! Duh na-na.
Duh na na na... Hey! Duh na-na.
Duh na na na... Hey! Duh na-na."

CaptainSolo1138

What I love is that its all the house wives and people with no clue otherwise who picked #1's all the way through or the people whose mother's maiden name was Davidson who have a shot at winning all the brackets this year!

BTW, I picked the Final Four correctly.lol

JimJamBonds
03-30-2008, 10:08 PM
That had to be the worst 13 seconds ever (not really ever ever but I felt like saying it). No good shot, didn't even seem like there was a play set up.

Final stats for my non-monetary and non-entered bracket:

Total games picked correctly: 43 or 64 (67.2%)
First round: 24 of 33 (including play-in game, 72.7%)
Second round: 11 of 16 (68.8%)
Regionals: 4 of 8 (50%)
Nat'l Semis: 3 of 4 (75%)
Championship game: 1 of 2 (50%)
Champ: 0 of 1 :( (0%)

Congratulations to A) Memphis or B) Kansas on your 2007-08 non-NIT national title. And congrats to A) Coach Self or B) Coach Caliparri [sp?] on your first title. Mad props to A) Big XII or B) Conf. USA on representing for the ring. Wow. :sourgrapesfan: :p

Meh. I don't know any of their names. Its still a winning situation for me though, as the end of college basketball (finally) means NHL playoffs!

And I knew I doomed myself when I made a couple theoretical purchases this afternoon. That Sidney "Hockey Jesus" Crosby jersey sure would have been nice.:)

NHL playoffs just don't seem as exciting on Vs. Hopefully they've found some new personnel that actually watch hockey and can follow the puck. Their camera work last year left a lot to be desired i thought. i don't think the Av's will make it out of the first round.

You may regret not getting that jersey, the Pens got a realistic shot at beating the Wings for the title.

Preach it brother!!!

I'm VERY hopeful for the Pens this year. I'd be happy if they make the second round or further though. But man, a Cup would just be fantastic!

They just need to work on their Power Play and Penalty killing.

CaptainSolo1138
04-08-2008, 12:28 PM
The Pens are my pick out of the East. The only team I can feasibly see beating them is the Habs, and they're not 100% with Saku Koivu out.

I don't mind Vs., but I have the benefit of CBC, who shows a good majority of playoff games. With three Canadian clubs in the playoffs this year, they should pretty much be showing hockey every night.
