Silly people, Festivus is in December.

I think they should ban Easter egg hunts. It's cruel to hunt those poor defenseless eggs. Maybe that's why that rabbit in Monty Python & The Holy Grail was so nasty. People kept trying to steal its eggs.

first day of spring was actually two days ago I think. according to the solar radiation equinox thingymabob doofrey doodah dates. I saw my first Magpie of the year yesterday and there's leaf buds on all my garden plants. My japanese maple survived the winter and the ground ivy we used to have in our yard is now populating every other garden in the neighbourhood lol oh, and i ate lambs liver for dinner tonight. that'll teach the little *CENSORED* to bounce around so cheerfully.

I saw my first Magpie of the year
You know, it's been a long time since I saw one of those Heckle and Jeckle cartoons.

This thread also reminded me of the line from the SNL sketch, Theodoric of York: Medieval Barber, where Bill Murray's character says:

"I was at the festival of the vernal equinox, and I guess I had a little too much mead.. and I darted out in front of an oxcart."

There was snow on the ground in the Chicago area, yet I saw signs up for "Easter Egg hunts" at public parks. Just what I would want my kid doing, searching through the snow for eggs.

Heckle and Jeckle were magpies. You mentioned magpies. I don't think I've ever seen an actual magpie though.
