Welcome to the First Annual (2008) SirStevesGuide April Comedy Movie Challenge! All members are encouraged to participate!

The rules are simple:

Watch any feature length comedy movie between the month of April (1st-30th) and post your results here; with each entry including the day watched, the movie's title, and listed in numerical order. This is the basic format, please see the example below. Feel free to add your own comments about each movie watched, the year it was released, who starred in the film, and other miscellaneous information, if you so desire.

The qualifications are fairly flexible, with the only requirement is that the film is comedic in nature (in some sort of majority), whether it be a straight up Comedy (like Tommy Boy), a Horror/Comedy (like Shaun of the Dead) or a Dramedy (like Jersey Girl). There is definitely some flexibility here; common sense should be used.

Example:
_______________________________________________

April 1st
1. Tommy Boy - (year) - comments, etc, if you want!

April 2nd
2. Shaun of the Dead - (year) - comments, etc
3. Jersey Girl - (year) - comments, etc
_______________________________________________

That pretty much sums it up. Most of you should be familiar with these challenges by now, but if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask. As of now, this challenge is purely for fun, but other (future) challenges may include prizes!

Again, the challenge will start on April 1st (@ 12:00am), in one week, and will run until the 30th. Any movie started before 12:00 am on the 30th, but ends thereafter, will count!

Have fun!!!

I'm down, but I'll be surprised if I get around to watching at least half as many movies as I watched during the Oscar challenge. Regarding horror-comedies, I guess this would be a good opportunity to tackle the "Evil Dead" trilogy.

Even though I watched it tonight, can I include "Letters from Iwo Jima" in my tally. That movie was hilarious. Especially that scene in the cave with the grenades.

No, absolutely not Cap!!! First off, the challenge hasn't started yet, and secondly, that movie isn't a comedy. Common sense son, common sense!!! ;) lol

And off I go...

April 1st
1. The Cable Guy (1996) - This is one you either love or hate; and I love it. "Oohhhh sh*t... *dial tone*".
2. American Pie (1999) [Unrated] - Hilarious movie. The best of the bunch. Oz is obnoxious though.
3. American Pie 2 (2001) [Unrated] - Not as good as the first, but still has some funny moments. Lisa Arturo's a** (Amber) is worth the viewing alone.
4. American Wedding (2003) [Unrated] - May have liked this one better than the second. Some really good laughs, good new characters, and a decent story.

Alright, the first day is done. I was able to knock out 4 movies, not bad at all. It definitely helped that I didn't have to work today, and I have tomorrow off as well so I should get through a few then too.

Here I was, thinking I might have a chance. Four movies a day, though, no way.

Still, comedies will be easier for me than any of the other categories. I can re-watch the good ones a million times.

Starting off with one that I think is one of the funniest flicks ever, but I know Rocketboy and Ben Stiller both hate:

April 1
Mystery Men

Ahhh, don't let that deter you. Like I said, I did not have to work yesterday, which is the only reason I was able to watch that many. There is no way I can keep up that pace. When I work I will be lucky to fit one movie in a day. The challenge is in its early stages, so you still have a chance, same with everybody else. :)

Comedies are easier than some of the other genres, for sure. Not to mention most of them are very short in length (with exception to Apatow movies). ;)

Caesar better join the party, I know The Big Lebowski has been calling his name.

Other members are encouraged to participate too!

Started out a bit late because I was busy watching "Sweeney Todd" last night. Even though it has quite a few humorous moments, I wouldn't really consider it a comedy.

I would consider that a comedy too, for sure. Just like all the other Pixar movies. I was actually thinking about this earlier, the Pixar movies (Bug's Life, Finding Nemo, etc.) and Disney movies (Lion King, Little Mermaid, Aladdin, etc.) and I figured these would count; since they are comedic in nature and are meant to make little kids (and adults) laugh. Does everyone else agree?

By the way, I never commented on your thoughts about The Cable Guy. I don't see how anyone can hate a movie with that hilarious exchange between Matthew Broderick and Janeane Garofalo (in the days when she was funny, and kinda cute, in a dorky way) at Medieval Times.

If you're unfamiliar, clicky clicky (http://youtube.com/watch?v=ubd9giIm-Tg).

That was a great scene, my favorite quote is from Jim Carrey though:

"Dos thus have thou a mug of ale for me and me mate, for he hath been pitched in battle for a fortnight and has the king's thirst for the frosty brew dos thou might have for thus!"

1. The Cable Guy (1996) - This is one you either love or hate; and I love it. "Oohhhh sh*t... *dial tone*".
2. American Pie (1999) - Hilarious movie.

5. Airplane! (1980) - One of the greatest comedies of all time. A classic.
6. License to Drive (1988) - Good for a few laughs. James Avery (and his cup of coffee) as the DMV driving instructor was just awesome, great casting there.

7. Can't Hardly Wait (1998) - Pretty good high school party movie with many laughs throughout and several memorable scenes and performances. Pretty good cast too (lots of peeps in this one).
8. Not Another Teen Movie (2001) - I really like this movie. One of the better spoof movies out there IMO.

April 4th
9. The Wedding Singer (1998) - Great movie. One of my favorites from Sandler. Gotta love Steve Buscemi's very minor role in this one. Good stuff!
10. Hot Fuzz (2007) - First time viewing. Really enjoyed it. Not as good as Shaun, but still a very enjoyable and highly entertaining film!

15. Meatballs (1979) - Felt like a first viewing. Decent movie, but not all that funny. I do like Kristine DeBell - look her up if you are not familiar with her and how she got her start in the biz. :lipsrsealed:
16. 50 First Dates (2004) - Love this movie. Very funny, good soundtrack, great story.

I've been slacking/throwing in the towel lately....not sure if I'm burnt out from watching a lot of TV lately, or Mario Kart Wii, and GTAIV that have been eating away at me as well....we'll see though, I have a couple days off....

Well, this is the last day of the challenge. :p

I watched Scary Movie late last night, and will watch The Big Lebowski tonight, which will bring my total to 50 movies, which is about what I was aiming for. I still have a lot more comedies that I was wanting to get through though... :(

April 1st
1. The Cable Guy (1996) - This is one you either love or hate; and I love it. "Oohhhh sh*t... *dial tone*".
2. American Pie (1999) - Hilarious movie.

[U]April 2nd
5. Airplane! (1980) - One of the greatest comedies of all time. A classic.

I'm bowing with 51 movies. I reached and passed (just barely) my goal of 50, so I'm pleased. I was also able to watch a lot of movies that I hadn't seen in a long time, or never seen at all, which was good.

Thats fine with me... and do we want to still run to August 31st? So it will be a little over two months long?
