View Full Version : SideShow Aayla Secura!!!

I haven't bought a SideShow figure since the Palpatine 2-pack.

But I'm Sooooo getting Aayla! She's been on my wish-list for a while (look up the post!).

From what I can see, she looks great. I'm not sure I'll be able to attend Comic Con though, so I'll probably order the Non-Attendee and not worry about picking her up. Besides, even if I DO get to go, any LINE I get to skip standing in is a good thing if you ask me. I go to Cons for the panels and to chat with the fans, not to shop.

But nevertheless, Aayla looks great! This figure needed to be done!

Blue babes are cool!

I'll be getting her for sure also on the PP. :thumbsup:

Easy pass for me. Not only do I not care about the character, and the face looks off to me, but I think the bare midriff doesn't work well visually with that Sideshow body.

I only saw a headshot and didn't have time to look further. I thought the face looked like a pretty good Amy Allen. So I was satisfied.

It's a bummer we don't get to see that cute little blue belly button, but it's probably the only way you can make her do extreme poses, much like the Unleashed version.
Think I'd rather have her than Bikini Barbie though, and it's the closest thing to having a doll, without really having one, so I can get away with it.

It's an easy pass for me since my focus is OT/EU Imperials and droids. But she looks pretty cool.

This one look really good. I was trimming my focus with these down to either just ANH characters, or maybe just Sith. This one looks like a winner though.

Hmmm. I'm not going to make it to Comic-Con this year, but I may need to order this one anyway.

And, it's always nice to have a picture close to look at (I think), so...

What's up with the Jedi robe? Aayla's almost never been seen wearing one. Maybe when she was young, training under Quinlan Vos in the comics, but it's not really her style.

From what I understand, the Jedi wear their robes to hide their features so that if Aayla had a mission on Rodia, she could cloak herself and no one there would see her hands were blue instead of green, etc. etc.

However, by posing as an "escort girl" or Twi'lek mistress, sometimes a spoiled Twi'lek princess, she usually went in under cover as her own species and others underestimated her, not pegging her for a Jedi.

I guess SideShow wanted to add value to the package and give her a Jedi robe anyway. That's fine. I can use the cloak for one of my AOTC Hasbro 12" Jedi figures of Obi-Wan or Anakin that should have came with one.

I'm trying to think of what accessories Aayla should come with. Standard Jedi gear (commlink, hilt, ignited saber, food capsules, aqua breather maybe, etc.) but what else? A Geonosian battle droid head (re-used from whichever figure came with that before)? A mini-hologram of Quinlan Vos would be awesome! Or maybe data cards showing "Wanted Criminal" mugs of Aurra Sing and Vilmah Grahrk? That'd be cool. I could see another statue (this one from the Jedi Temple or something) as a lame pack-in. But the Dooku headbust sculpt would be awesome!

I was bummed to see this figure offered as a exclusive at a CON! She's my most wanted figure from this format, but i have no way of going to San Diego, is there any way i could order one from side show? Because if i couldn't get this figure i wouldn't buy any SS future stuff...even if they did make Jacen!

Yeah, they always make con exclusives available in limited numbers to PPO people who can't go, it just costs in shipping and sometimes a few bucks extra to the pricetag as well.

That's good to hear, as there is no way i could go to Comic Con which is all the way cross country for me, just to get a blue barbie doll! Do i just check SS's web site or other sites for this?

Both. I have a couple friends that save money by buying the non-exclusive figures from AmokTime or some other e-tailer. But with Aayla being a Comic Con special, I'd say get her any way which you are successful at. In this case, I wouldn't worry about saving $10.

Aayla's one I always wanted, and it looks like I am going to end up going to Comic Con, so I'll pre-order mine for pick-up there.

PPO for the non-attendee version is 10am Pacific time, May 23rd. There's only 1 version (no exclusive vs non-exclusive version, this IS an exclusive figure, period), and it will be a little harder to get because they put more aside for attendees than for non-attendees.

I'm guessing that alot of people from out of the state won't be able to go this time, because of finances.

I'm hoping there are some left on the 23rd, as I'll be ready for that at least. If I miss that, and though I don't like it, I'll try eBay. Usually there are exclusives being sold in abundance, and though marked up there are so many that it's not too bad. The only way I can justify that in my mind is asking myself how much I would have spent if I went to SDCC, and I'm sure it would be much more than I did three years ago just in lodging and especially fuel.

I have to have Aayla though, so whatever it takes within reason.

Thanks everyone, as i've never really dealt with SS before, and i've only bought three of their figures (From EE), and i had no clue on how to get this figure.

Like Blue2TH said I to have to have this figure as Aayla is one of the few figures from SS i would actually search around to get, i just dread the price tag...

Here's the deal. This will just be elaborating on what JT said, but...

These will only be available for order from Sideshow's website. Other than that, it is the secondary market. And to order them from Sideshow's website DURING THE PRIORITY PRE-ORDER, you have to be registered on the website and have an account open by midnight of the day before the priority pre-order. You can still order and set up an account after the PPO...but for these, it would probably be an excersize in futility.

Sideshow sets aside 10% of the event exclusives for non-attendees. And they have a PPO the day after the attendees PPO. So, how many are available for non-attendees during the non-attendees PPO will depend on how big the edition size is. DV:SA was 6,000, HDS w/MC was 5,000, and Yavin Luke was 6,000. So 600, 500, and 600 of these (respectively) were set aside for non-attendes. However...there are always no-shows for attendees who order to pick their's up at the events. Sideshow DOES NOT ALLOW OTHERS TO PICK THEM UP FOR YOU. So ordering one and having a buddy pick it up at the event is not possible. They offer those for sale outright on the last day of the event. And any that do not sell go toward filling the wait list for the non-attendees. SO GET ON THE WAITLIST IF YOU MISS THE NON-ATTENDEE PPO! One other thing...the non-attendees are always charged more than the attendees. It has been 5.00 each time so far.

I have gotten at least two other Sideshow Exclusives through the non-attendee Priority Pre-order. Anakin/ Vader w Sith eyes. (even though I went at the last minute to SDCC) and Holo Sidious on Meccano chair, which was extremely popular and sold out quick.
But I still managed to get them both on the non-attendee PPO.
I would definitely recommend signing up with Sideshow like right now, if you haven't already, with current CC and legitimate address (no P.O. Boxes allowed) like DC said it would be an excersize in futility to sign up afterwards. They also won't let you sign up on the same day as the PPO and expect to get in on it. You have to register at least 24 hours before the Priority Pre-order, which doesn't give you much time if you run into problems with verification etc.

Yes, that is what I meant by registered. I forgot to finish that part of the phrase. When you open an account, you are registered just for the website.

I love how you CANNOT use SideShow Rewards points for Aayla.

If they go through with your order, they say they will remove them and recalculate what you'd owe without them (and who knows if they'll credit your Rewards back to you?).

I got my Aayla "non-attendee" a few minutes into 11:00 AM. It was quicker than I thought it would be. Of course it's good to have a broadband connection me thinks.

Wonder how long it'll take for her to sell through, as there are only 3000 of her I do believe?

Anyways I'm glad I got her because all the Prequel Jedis that Sideshow has already put out that I have wouldn't be complete without her. Hope we get some more. These are my favorite SS's 'cause they have never been released for the most part (except for Hasbro Plo Koon which was dismal) anywhere in 12"

Sold out already, son of a.... Well it looks like I'll be getting her on the secondary market.......I had to work today, and I didn't feel like dealing with Sideshow's Web site... so sc**w it.

But speaking of "secondary market," I've yet to see a Sideshow Star Wars figure that wasn't available on eBay a year after its release, for less than the original price. These things do not appreciate in value, so I have no problem holding out and shooting for one later... if I decide that I still want it.

I don't feel like taking a picture of her at this exact moment, but I picked her up at San Diego Comic Con today and I'm very impressed. I'm going to open her a little later tonight, but Aayla looks like a really solid homerun that SideShow hit out of the ballpark today.

I'm very glad I got this figure!

They asked permission to add my ordering tagline to their website, too:

"Help! I'm in the hospital. And I'm on drugs. But I need to order an Aayla Secura action figure!"

They remembered that story from the end of last May and we had a nice little visit. Their customer service is so good! I ordered "Pello Scrambas" (older Rebel Fleet Trooper) on the spot and the girl who took my order made it very easy for me while I mostly just got to stand there and talk to Figrin Bran.

The Vader and Stormtrooper look great too (especially Vader). Too bad they're not on my wishlist, but I am satisfied with the Hasbro figures I have.

It's ok, I thought maybe she sucked big time, or SS didn't put her out, because nobody took a pic of her anywhere else either.
I'll check again today though.

Well, SideShow is not displaying her in their product samplings, so there is no Aayla at the Comic Con to photograph in spite of everyone who pre-ordered her being able to walk away from their on-site store at the Con with Aayla.

I opened her last night and she's a great figure.

Complaints:

She comes with a Force-throw RIGHT hand, but you really want it to be her left hand. The box shows an additional LEFT hand that she's not included with.

Aayla is also depicted as having chord-tassles or something, dangling from her hips. SideShow just used common thread string that's also used to hold the padded "sports covering" over her pelvic region (perhaps that's officially called her "Anakin guard / chastity shield," haha). But don't cut these with a scissor or anything. They're supposed to be there. It just doesn't look as good as it could have. Her sports guard also hangs a bit loose.

Meanwhile, Aayla's joints are also sort of loose. Pose her cautiously so you don't jerk the joints any looser, and then don't alter her position a lot (so as to keep as much of that stiff-like-new thing going with her.

Overall, she's a great purchase though and I'm really glad to have her - especially considering my adventure ordering her. I'll always remember that about Aayla, of course.

Oh - her lightsaber is more turquoiz in color than Anakin's or Obi-Wan's. At first I thought her skin coloring affected the deeper saber hue. But no, a comparison of lightsabers shows Aayla's really got the blue-thing going. I don't mind. I actually think Anakin and Obi-Wan could have looked better with that deeper hue.

Yeah, I got mine today and wondered about the threads dangling from her threads(hmm). Mine was also loose, I didn't know whether to pull the strings or tie them in some kind of a knot. By then I noticed them on the picture, so I left them alone.

She showed up here this week...first chance I've had to sit down and really look at her....

I like her, but...

The head sculpt is really good...nice detail and paint apps. The outfit I'm not so hot on. Perhaps it can be futzed into looking nice enough for display, but is has a cheap kinda look and feel to it. That belt is really loose and poorly executed. Gotta find a way to make it sit better. The joints on the figure I got are really loose too..in fact, the right forearm barely stays on...may have to wrap the post a bit to keep it secure. And Tycho...you're right. Where's that hand that's pictured on the box?
We knew that having the exposed arm and torso was going to look a little odd with this base body, but the skin-tight outfit gives her an even more gangly appearance...I may opt for displaying her with the robe on, even though she only wore it once in the comics and never on screen

Another thing that caught my eye was the weird choice of shots on the box back...Heck, she's not even in two of 'em...it's just odd.

I'm glad to see a female Jedi added to the collection, but I think Sideshow might have better luck producing a character like Shaak Ti or Liminara Unduli, both exotic and beautiful, but both covered in long (but detailed) dresses that would give Sideshow's team a chance to really shine and cover up the limitations of this body.

Aayla is one of my favorite Jedi...she's been featured a lot in the comics to great, intriguing effect. Sideshow has produced a decent figure of her...with a little work, she'll look great.

Here's an initial shot I took...I'll be back with others later...

Tycho

Her character and the EU lore behind her makes Aayla more interesting than any of the other female Jedi.

She seems to be in ALL of the pictures on the back of the box, BTW. Sometimes she's just appearing really small in the background.

If SideShow makes a 12" Quinlan Vos, or you want to pose Aayla up against the Masterpiece Aurra Sing (or a new SideShow one), those could be excellent ways to display her figure.

You know, when they took votes for an EU figure, everyone thought it was a cheat when Padme Illum vaulted past Quinlan Vos and Mara Jade. Those other two were naturals for the winner. What was the point of making Padme Illum? I for one never wanted that and didn't buy it.

plasticfetish
08-02-2008, 06:32 AM
What was the point of making Padme Illum? I for one never wanted that and didn't buy it.Well... I suppose it meets the need for something that both promotes the whole Clone Wars thing, and then gives us Padme in an action based costume. (Simply looking hot in a dress doesn't really count as being an "action" I suppose.)

~~~~~~~~~~
jedibear, I'm always impressed by your backgrounds. Makes the photos really fun to look at... and makes me even more sad that I couldn't go to the Con this year to pick this one up.
Problems and all, it still looks like a decent figure.
That outdoor shot looks way better than hard lighting, but it's only hiding a lot of the issues. I still think that lightsaber hilt is WAY too big, almost hasbro-fat accessory territory.
jedibear
08-03-2008, 10:57 AM
Yeah, I gotta admit that was my first thought on that lightsaber hilt too...as well as the outfit. Seems a bit on the Hasbro side.
While the hilt is definitely over-sized, I think her very tiny hands make it look even bigger...
Still like her though...
