Special effects and makeup guru Stan Winston passed away on Sunday, June 15th in Los Angeles, California. He was 62. Winston died at home Sunday evening after a seven-year struggle with multiple myeloma.

Winston was best known for his work for the "Terminator," "Jurassic Park" and "Predator" series, and Edward Scissorhands. The 4-time Oscar winner most recently worked on Iron Man and was special effects supervisor on the upcoming Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins.

Winston won Oscars for Aliens (1986), Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1992) and Jurassic Park (1993).

This royally sucks. The man was a brillaint special effects wizard. It's going to be a very different industry without his contribution. Let's hope that his team continues to honor the high standards that Stan Winston lived up to. :cry:

That's really bad news. He was the master in animatronics. CGI could only go so far, but he made things look real, because they were real.

I don't think anyone devoted to science fiction didn't know who he was and what he did.

Hopefully I'm sure he trained some devoted apprentices, as the show must go on, his legacy must live on.

T-4 is being filmed in part here in Albuquerque, I would think he kept things going as he was in his demise.

He'll be missed.

I heard this today and my heart sank. He was truly a visionary and gave millions of fans such as myself reasons why we love movies.

He will be missed. RIP my friend. :sleeping:
