At last, some shots of new Titaniums. Thanks to RS and atreyu2112 for the sneak peek.

http://www.rebelscum.com/sdcc08/Hasbro/titanium/image1.asp

The TIE Defender! Looks very good... not as blue as the AF one. Got a few extra gun turrets or gizmos on the solar panels, methinks.

There's that Gungan sub from Mystery Phantom Wave 4... the pic's cut off but it says available NOW?!? WTF?

Sebulba's pod available NOW? Huh? Well, I've got an Ep. I diecast Sebulba pod, so they must mean that one.

Hasbro has also listed (and mis-spelled) the Imperial Landing Craft as a Lambda-Class shuttle... duh. Couldn't read their own package which is correct.

The Z-95 Headhunter looks uncannily similar to the X-Wing mould but it's welcome, too. Blah paint, though.

No BSG Basestar was shown, but I'm not surprised considering it's a mainly a SW event. Where's my frakkin' Basestar? Frak!

Yeah, and no sign of the Outrider, either. Hasbro lies like a shag carpet!

The TCW JSF looks good... will definitely pick it up. Pesky droid blockin' the view...worse than fuzzy dice. Maybe it's a an R2 bobblehead...

The Droid Gunship is awesome... looking forward to it. Surprised that they'd do this one... onscreen for about 5 seconds.

The Hailfire Droid looks good, too. But I smell a pegwarmer... parked right next to the Dewback.

Wow. The TF Landing ship... is this the last of the unproduced Ep. I diecasts? Glad to see it crawl into sight... sheesh, it was only 9 years late.

And the Grievous Bodyguard's P-38 Starfighter is kewl but displayed BACKWARDS... looks a lot like a P-38 Lightning from WWII. I guess we'll see more Magnaguards in TCW.

We're already stoked about the Imp Landing Craft, Rebel Transport, and MTT... outstanding job on all 3, Hasbro.

Shame about all of the TCW repaints in there, too. Well, at least they're repaints and not just straight retreads... way too many this year.

All in all, I'm quite pleased about the stuff Hasbro's shown in TS... wonder if there's a SDCC exclusive in Titanium this year? If anyone is attending and can hook me up, well, that would be uber-awesome.

Oh, and recently, Hasbro made reference to the TS line continuing on into 2010... nice to know.

Totally Stoked. I was trying to update my (need to buy) list. Looks like some fun stuff coming this way. Put me down for potential SDCC exclusives too. Would love that. I still can't find that gold X-wing. Saw it at one toy show for $300.

The new Titaniums look great. Really like the TIE Defender and Droid Gunship. I also like the Shadow Reupblic Defender, I know it another RGS,( out of about 12 repaints ) but I think that looks cool.

Really, really upset about no Outrider. 2 years now and nothing shown. Whats the deal? Something to ask at one of the next Hasbro Q&As.

I might skip the Headhunter, Like Darth Titanium said likes like the X-Wing. Have to wait for better pics, though.

Adam over at GH has one pic showing that top row, including the Lambda Shuttle. http://www.flickr.com/photos/26599914@N04/2700858215/sizes/l/in/set-72157606337634468/

Where's the pic of the Basestar?

Hows come the Titaniums aren't getting the love?
If I was there I would be taking super-macro pics of each of the new toolings.

That not a Lambda Shuttle, that's a Imperial Sentenal Class Landing Craft. Nice to know Hasbro can tell the difference:rolleyes:.

I love the TIE defender. I've been wanting a squadron of these for years now. All the new sculpts look really good. I'm looking forward to most of them. It's very good to know that the Twilek nose art ships will be available in tianium scale. I'll be passing on the bigger ones for sure due to lack of room. I wish they'd update the Y-wing and RGS, the new sculpt X-wing really shows what they're capable of and these craptastic old ones really show their age.

I bought the Cloud car, wedge's X-wing, and the repaint cylon raider at TRU this afternoon but passed on the rest of the repaints in this wave.

I like the pic from that link above, of the Titanium display. Republic Gunship with Twi'Lek Nose Art. Seen that at the store today, guess what NO NOSE ART. What the deal with that??? Same with the ARC-170. Hasbro is really slipping.

Darth Duranium
07-28-2008, 09:57 PM
Can you tell if the nose art is on there before you open the package, Jangu? I'll try to be selective! The one at SDCC has got the nose art. Thanks for the heads-up!

Jangu Fett
07-28-2008, 10:41 PM
Yeah, you can clearly see that there is no nose art. I held it up to the light, turned the packaging around to get a good look. Even asked my wife, just to be sure. It's just has a dark grey coloring, that on the original RGS was a off white. And actually if it did have the nose art, the one side would really be messed up, with the hole for a screw right there.

The one shown at SDCC had nose art?.?. Maybe there was some mistake with the first batch. Let's hope.

Darth Duranium
07-28-2008, 11:25 PM
Nose art. Such a delightful term.

Anyhoo, here's the mystery phantom NA from SDCC.

I guess it's between the ship's nostrils... Twi'lek Nostril Art! Looks a little like a smeared booger in this pic.

Jangu Fett
07-29-2008, 09:45 AM
From that pic you can see the nose art, but that wasn't there on the one I seen. The package had the Twi'Lek art on it, but the Gunship didn't, that's why I didn't grab one. I'll have to look around to find one with the art. Like I said earlier, hopefully that's just a mistake. Thanks for the pic.

I guess I'll check them out... not sure if the ARC-170, Rep Gunship, Rep Cruiser, and Cylon Raider are just too close to earlier releases to worry about buying... especially if they're missing nose art paint.

Here's a couple of pics from the upoming wave from eBay:

That TIE Defender looks a bit weird... like the plastic on the solar panels melted a bit. Actually, I think buddy's put the top wing on upside-down. Wingnut!

Guessed right about the MTT... it's just like the droid dropping AF one.

Wondering what the dark spots are on the Imp Landing Ship are... one might be a turret... what's the thing on the wing?

The Rebel Transport looks great... nice paint... but must be flying in reverse gear. Glad they stayed away from the seafood sauce this time.

the only difference on the republic attack cruiser that i could see was that they put the imperial symbol on it instead of the red and yellow dot thing.

Too bad they had to cheap-out on that Defender with plastic wings?
Or is this just a prototype?

All the other TIE's before it have metal wings!

The TIE Defender in the case at Hasbro did not have that problem, my guess is getting it out of the factory damaged it. The Hasbro booth version had very straight wings, including a packaged sample which showed the top set of wings are hinged on either side of the main section so it'll fit in the packaging.

I made sure Steve shot all the new Titaniums they had, but somehow they're not in the gallery right now, so I've asked Steve to look for them when he gets the chance - it should be up tonight, he took care of the last missing thing I found in 5 minutes but he's not around right now.

BTW, the new Hailfire Droid TS looks really cool, but the wheels don't move.

The pics have been up for hours, but I wasn't here:

http://photos.sirstevesguide.com/showgallery.php?cat=5722

Please note that 1 of the TIE Defender pics is out of focus, but there's another one that is in focus.

I didn't think it possible, but that Droid Gunship is very cool.

JT and Steve, you guys rock!

SSG: It's been 2 years now since we were told in Q&A that the Titanium Series line would have an Outrider entry in 2008, and with this Comic-Con showing off a ton of great new molds - or rather, in this case, "dies" (they're cast from dies) - the Outrider not among them, what is happening on that front?
Hasbro: I'm not the expert on Titanium, but we can get you an answer on that. Actually, the guys who are the experts are not here right now. So, the Outrider is an important EU vehicle and I believe it is gonna show up next year. I want to say it is going to show up next year, and it should. We had to delay some tools in this so that's why...
SSG: Ah, ok. Was that for budgetary reasons, or something else?
Hasbro: Well, yes. I mean, Titanium is still coming out of an era where the focus in Titanium kinda ballooned up in a lot of areas, now we're back to where we started from. It just takes a while for all the new tools to get online. When I took over Titanium at the beginning of last year, the direction was "let's get some new tools out there," it just takes a while to do that. And we can't do as many as we want as fast as we want.

Thanks for getting an answer on the Outrider and the repaint/retread issues. Wow, starting to think we've got a direct hotline to the gods of Titanium. Hasbro seems quite knowledgeable and positive about the SW TS line... nice to know they're aware of our issues. Do they read these forums?

The pics are outstanding, too... way better than any others I've seen so far. Can finally see those little frakkers in a decent resolution. Thanks.

The Droid Gunship does look amazing, especially with the red Cylon-esque eyes.

Thanks for the info re: the TIE Defender... hopefully it'll have metal wings that aren't warped. Not looking good after Darth Enigma's post...

Yes, nice pics guys

Looks like wheels on the Gungan sub.

I'm happy just to get a TIE Defender, plastic wings or not. Wonder why they didn't do it in the traditional blue grey like the AF one?
Perhaps on a repaint, which I would get also.

I'm really liking the MTT, Droid Gunship, and Dropship.

Yep, I picked up "Wave 1" yesterday and I noticed a couple of things:

The Rep. Gunship does have "nose art", if you consider a bit of dark green paint on the nose tip to be Twi'lek art. It is very difficult to see against the dark grey body of the ship but it's there.

The Rep. Cruiser is indeed almost identical to earlier releases (specifically the darker variant)... it also has a red/white Titanium logo on the bottom next to the docking bay.

Lousy job on the new green JSF... the canopy doesn't close quite right. Slightly better paint on the R2/R5 unit.

I didn't get the ARC-170 cuz I couldn't see any difference from earlier releases... did anyone spot a change? Is there noseart on one side (the side faced down in the packaging) like on the earlier green one?

The vulture droid repaint is really quite nice... much better than the previous striped one.

BTW, the only (produced or unproduced) Episode 1 Galoob mould/die that hasn't been redone in Titanium is the Gian Speeder. Considering the thousands of unsold Gian speeders that clogged store pegs since 1999, I wonder if they'll bother.

Y'know, considering Hasbro's lack of effort in the past, I suspect we'll see it eventually.

I can see I only want four from that wave:

MTT
Defender
Imperial Lander
Rebel Transport

Looks like they will be hitting the pegs soon, if EE is getting them in August.

JediTricks

The Outrider they will get final word to us on in the next Q&A round, but it looks very hopeful and there's a reason for why we wouldn't get it this year (not that I LIKE not having it, but still).

The repaints thing they offered on their own and I really appreciate them taking it to that level.

Anyway, I was glad I could get the question asked finally, and asking in person was the best way to go.

As for photos, several delays caused problems for Team SSG but I made sure we concentrated on this line as much as possible, pointing out all the new ones. If there had been more time, I think I could have gotten Hasbro to give us an open-case tour since we are the site that keeps pushing on the line, showing we care. But I'm glad we got what we did, and thanks for the compliments, I'll pass 'em along!

Gungan Sub has wheels, no question, but keep in mind that mold is from 2000 when the line was still heavily in its "wobbly wheels" phase.

No release date posted for the Titanium TIE Defender that I know of, but that's all product for this fall, I believe, so sometime before 2009.

Thanks for the EE link, August huh? That's awesome! That explains why they showed up on ebay when they did.

The green on the nose of the Gunship was always there, the nose art SHOULD have been on the sides of the nose but isn't.

I doubt they'll pass up the opportunity to use an existing tool in this line, even if it is the sleep Gian Speeder (maybe they'd modify it slightly for movie accuracy) but if they can't find the tooling right away, I bet they abandon it. Nobody's barking for it.

We don't get very many Titaniums up here.... Did the Ep. 3 jedi starfighter with ring ever come out?

Darth Duranium
08-03-2008, 02:51 AM
Pegger, the Ep III JSF is part of the Mystery Phantom Wave that was cancelled... Hasbro's apparently stated that the ships from the wave will be rolled into other waves to be released before the end of the year. I guess we'll see. Where' my frakkin' Basestar?

JT, looks like they dug out all of the other old tools for the Ep 1 ships, so yep, I'd agree that we'll see the Gian Speeder sometime.

I'd also agree that SSG is quite supportive of the Titaniums line... it sets you apart from almost all of the rest of the SW collector sites. I was a little surprised that it took a few days for the SDCC TS pics to be uploaded but they really were worth the wait.

Shame that the "Titanium experts" weren't around for your questions, JT... I'd love to put some questions to 'em. It'd be awesome to get a further peek into Titanium's future... and inflict some pain on 'em for all the repaints.

Noone expects the Spanish Inquisition. Mwahahaha...

Well, at least the other Titanium lines (except Indy) won't be competing for new tools against the Star Wars line... that's gotta increase the number of new "dies".

BTW, how can they be new "dies" if they're 95% resin, like the new Imp Landing Craft?

Might be time to start formulating some new TS questions for the Q&A...

JediTricks
08-03-2008, 06:28 AM
The SDCC TS shots were in the first 5 sets of photos SSG took, it was merely an uploading confusion which got them lost for a couple days, but within 20 minutes of shooting we had them shot and thought they were online live right then and there (they were supposed to be). So we do care, and by "we", I basically mean I nag Steve into covering it as much as we do. ;)

Having the Titanium experts not around was partly my fault, I didn't get the Q&A rolling until Sunday despite knowing half of the main SW designers were already flying back to Rhode Island - I was just too busy to get it taken care of any earlier. If I can somehow spin that into more Titanium questions, I will. Please submit more questions to the Q&A poll, I will push to get at least 1 answered per round even if it doesn't get the votes, it just needs to be a strong, rounded question (Hasbro doesn't do "will you make X?" questions that well).

Bring out the comfy chair!

Interesting point, the metal is die-cast but when half the ship is plastic, those are molds.

Cardinal Ximinez (with a cruel leer) : Now - you will stay in the Comfy Chair until lunch time, with only a cup of coffee at eleven. (aside, to Biggles) Is that really all it is?

Cardinal Biggles: Yes, lord.

Cardinal Ximinez: I see. I suppose we make it worse by shouting a lot, do we? Confess, Hasbro. Confess! Confess! Confess! Confess!

JT, I've thought of a few questions for Hasbro. Cut and paste, mix and match... slice 'em up any way you want for easier digestion. Yeah I know some are "What's next" questions but it's unavoidable, really. I tried to be clever about it, at least...:)

And thanks for nagging Steve.

My one, no - two...three, bugger, make that four, four questions for Hasbro would be:

(1) First, kudos to Hasbro for the recent Titaniums we saw at SDCC... the Imperial Landing Craft, the TIE Defender, and the Rebel Transport are all outstanding and are among those most eagerly awaited. We're stoked to hear that you're concentrating on new moulds and dies to create new ships... to be honest, the quantity of recent repaints has diminished enthusiasm for many SW & BSG Titanium collectors. It's great to know that you're ramping up the new stuff for release.

In a recent exclusive SSG Q&A session with Hasbro, the question was put to you: What happened to the Titanium Outrider, which has been hinted at for more than 2 years now? Will we see the E-Wing and the V-19 Torrent this year, too?

(2) With the release of the Titanium Clone Wars themed waves (and a Titanium "Saga" poster spotted in Singapore), we're also wondering if Hasbro's going to go with a "themed wave" route in the future? We can guarantee fans would love to see a EU themed wave with the Sith Starfighter, Virago, Imperial Interdictor Cruiser, and any others you'd care to do from the EU.

Does Hasbro plan anything special for Star Wars Titanium this year? We haven't seen any multi-packs, store exclusives, or convention specials yet.

(3) We're aware that Hasbro's license for Battlestar Galactica ends at the end of the year, and many are saddened because the BSG ships are considered to be among Titanium's best (and most highly sought after!). We hope Hasbro picks up licenses for "Caprica" and any other BSG projects in the future, but we expect that you'd have to kill us if you told us anything now. Has the BSG line been as strong as you'd hoped? How did it rate in comparison to Star Wars Titaniums?

We've seen the Titanium Cylon Basestar available for pre-order before the 7/26 reset, but then it disappeared. Will the Basestar be the last ship released before the end of the year, and will there be any more new BSG ship releases?

(4) We understand that your Titanium design team is based out of Rhode Island and that there are a few people there who are your Titanium specialists. Could you fill us in a little on who these folks are and how the decisions are made as to which (and how many) new designs are turned into product? Are there any Titaniums that Hasbro had to pass on, due the cost of manufacture versus their price point? Should we expect to see more plastic and less metal on future Titanium releases? Do the designers have a "Favourite" and "Most Disappointing" released Titanium list, and would they share any of it with us fans?

Actually, you can skip the Themed Wave question cuz they've just posted a list of the next 2 waves on EE:
Wave 4
Hailfire Droid (SDCC)
X-wing Starfighter (Red 2) (SDCC)
Classic Cylon Raider (Battlestar Galactica) (retread)
AT-RT (Camo) (retread)
TF Landing Craft (SDCC)
A-Wing Starfighter (Blue) McQuarrie? (retread or repaint)
X-Wing Starfighter Red III (repaint)
TF Droid Gunship (SDCC)

Wave 5
Rogue Squadron TIE Fighter (repaint... see pic)
TCW Anakin's JSF (SDCC)
MagnaGuard Starfighter (SDCC)
Z-95 Headhunter Starfighter (SDCC)
B-Wing Starfighter (probably "Dagger Squadron" repaint... see pic)
Aayla Secura's JSF (blue/white Ep III JSF repaint... see pic) Hyperspace Ring???

So there's NO method to the madness, methinks. An unending onslaught of repaints and retreads in random order. I wonder what the new ships to repaints ratio is this year...

JT,

I've lost faith in Sesame Street since I recently saw Cookie Monster on the Colbert Report insisting that kids eat fruits and vegetables before they eat a moderate amount of cookies. Sickening. It's all been a terrible sham...
