Star Wars on Blu-Ray December 9th!!!

Star Wars - The Clone Wars will be released on Blu-Ray December 9th.

Okay, so it's not the OT, but I wonder if it will be enough to get a few more fans to adopt blu-ray.

Hopefully, sales will do well enough to spur Lucas Films into releasing the OT along with bonus features (original theatrical release, web interactive features, etc).

I'm sure a lot of movies that came out this year will do something for Blu-Ray's adoption rates. What with Iron Man, The Dark Knight, and Indy IV... there will be a reason to upgrade. The specs for Iron Man look fantastic so far. The Iron Man Blu-Ray this afternoon was the #6 most pre-ordered movie on Amazon.Com, which is damn good for a Blu-Ray at this state in the game. Sales of PS3's will also continue to help spread the format.

As for getting the OT or even the PT on Blu-Ray? Lucas is going to wait a while, much like he did with releasing the films on DVD. He'll at least wait until the format is more widely adopted, just like he did with releasing the OT on DVD. He'll test the waters with Clone Wars and Indy IV, to see sales. That will give him and Lucasfilm time to prepare suppliments and such. This is where we'll probably see the 'Archive Edition' bowed.
