View Full Version : F-Toys/Platz Star Wars Vehicle Collection Candy Toys

Just spotted these candy toys (not gashapon!) on a Japanese site... in Japan, the "10 unit" set costs about $33 and will be available in September.

Comet UK will be selling them for $16 each or $67 for the set... typical euro-gouging, I'd guess. I'm sure they'll be available for a lot less on eBay.

Interesting... the mould work's from Finemolds so they might be kewl. The unpainted moulds were apparently shown at CJ (see pic) but I never heard anything about 'em.

All of 'em look pretty nice to me... nice detailing, paint looks clean. Reminds me a little of the paintjobs on the Atlas ships.

Not sure about the size though they're described as "1/144 scale" but it's apparent that the scale is all over the place... some look close to TS or MM scale but it's hard to tell. Might be bigger, perhaps Atlas sized?

There's a "secret" chase ship as well... Comet says it's a Vader TIE but the greyed out shape (not in pics) looks way more like a TIE Crawler to me. I guess we'll see...

The kotobukiya X-wing is 1:35th scale and it's a little over 12" long. That would make 1:144th scale about a 1/4 of that or about 3". I guess that's a little bigger than titanium but since I've never seen an Atlas ship in person I have no idea how it compares.

Good find by the way. I hope these are available in the states. Maybe BBTS will pick them up.

Those look really decent, I'd want to hear a review of the materials before jumping into the line, but I'm already tempted.

Why doesn't Fine Molds do work for a US company? :( Why won't a US company do these sorts of things? :(

I like that AT-ST. Does it come with the speederbike as well? I'm curious to find more about these.

I agree with the Fine Molds sentiment. I enjoy building model sets as well, and I remember advertisements for the Fine Molds Episode 2 Jedi Starfighter. I wanted one pretty bad and had to eventually go to eBay for it.

Not much more info out there about this line... it turns out that they've gone the annoying unmarked box route so buying a case of 10 doesn't necessarily guarantee a full set (or the chase ship). You could end up with 10 of the same ship... if you're an unopened boxed collector, it'll remain a mystery.

I'm sure eBay sellers will take care of putting sets together... I imagine that there'll be a premium for this. The "secret" ship will be pricey... I don't know if it's in a regular case or if it's sent later as a chaser.

I guess why we never see these things made for N. America is somewhat cultural. You can buy 'em in supermarkets in Japan along with your semi-pornographic manga mags.

The speederbike is included with the AT-ST... each single box contains the painted ships you see on the individual stands (2 JSFs, Naboo & Vulture, etc).

I picked up that Finemolds Ep II JSF from eBay too, as an AF stand-in... and actually built it, for a change! I was extremely impressed with the detail... I couldn't believe how many parts there were in such a small model. There must have been 100 decals for the little blighter...hardly needed to paint it. Turned out really nice... blurry pic below.

Here's a few more pics including the TIE Crawler outline...

Wonder what the "F" in F-Toys stands for, besides the obvious Finemolds.

Yeah, I haven't assembled it yet, but I was impressed with the amount of detail that went into it. I remember also being surprised at how small it was. I was definitely expecting it to be larger.

In case you aren't aware, all of the Fine Molds Star Wars kits have been made in 1/72 scale. So when they are displayed next to each other they will actually look correct and to scale with each other. Personally I find this to be one of the most exciting features of the Fine Molds ships.

They made a X-wing in 1:48 scale also.

Has anyone picked up any of these yet? I'd love to see a pic of a Titanium series equivilent next to one of the F-Toys.

They look a little smaller than the TS but I could be wrong...

I'll answer my own question, dammit. Just got the TIE Crawler in the post from HK and I'm extremely happy with it... only took 4 days. Cost about $10 inc. shipping.

It's well scaled to go with the Titaniums... cockpit's a little smaller than TS but overall it's TS sized... about the size of a TS Vulture Droid. All resin... very light. No stand.

Colour is perfect... matte grey with a tiny tinge of blue... not as full-on blue as the TS reg or Vader TIES.

The cockpit window's glossy black, and there's no grey overspray anywhere. Nice detailing in the panel lines. Eat your heart out, Hasbro.

Naw, they're awright.

Anyhoo, the tread tracks are matte black but there must be microscopic metallic particles in it... they sparkle a bit... and it works well and it works to add scale.

My WOTC TIE Crawler finally has a little brother. Wonder if Hasbro will do one in TS?

That sounds pretty cool, great price too, congrats on the quick get!

I can't imagine Hasbro saying no to this for TS, assuming the line doesn't fold in '09. Anything could happen, but they seem to be committed to delivering more new molds and aren't shy about EU.

Darth Duranium
11-04-2008, 02:27 PM
Here's a pic of the TIE Crawler next to a TS TIE Defender, in case anyone's interested. Groovy, huh? You can see a few sparkles on one of the treads.

Yeah JT, I find that stuff I've bought from HK and Japan gets to N. America in an unbelievably short period of time... faster than from Canada or the US usually... and "SAL" shipping cost was $4!

I hope that Hasbro does one, too. Hard to say, considering their sketchy track record with EU ships... Outrider, anyone?

JediTricks

Wow, that is in scale to Titanium quite nicely. Looks good too.

I've had a few things come pretty fast from HK as well, come to think of it, and I have no idea how this is possible. I once traded something with a guy in Australia, took FOREVER and it cost a FORTUNE.

spotted a few boxes this morning in Walmart labeled Star Wars Wave 4 Rev 4 3" figure vehicles - i"m hoping that it's the new wave of TS with the TIE Defender and Imp Landing Ship.

Hey Dark Artist,

Yeah, it's pretty kewl, eh?

I got it on eBay from a seller called boveepoon, though I think he doesn't have any more crawlers right now... I just checked.

I'd suggest a search for "F-Toys Tie Crawler" on eBay... you'll see a few, though they've apparently gone up a few bucks (now roughly $13 w/shipping). If you want more than 1, negotiate the price and shipping!!!

Might be more available more cheaply by the time you search. You can pick up the whole set quite reasonably too... I just decided I have more than enough TS to cover the other F-Toys ships.

I'd imagine there are a few retailers who are selling 'em, too. There have been a few posts on SSG but they seem to be selling them at extortionate prices. Probably better to Google it...

Hope it helps...

That AT-TE looks pretty interesting. Wonder what the "secret chase ship" will be this time around... hopefully something kewl and unusual like the TIE Crawler.

Hope they catch the interesting spelling of "Collection". All your base are belong to us!

Not sure when they're out but here's a pic I found:

Looks like they'll be more from F-Toys... volume 2!

That Y-Wing mould looks about twice as accurate as the TS version, IMO... the rest look great too, though I wouldn't mind more paint on a couple of 'em.

The "secret item" appears to still be a secret! Remarkable, really.

I got the TIE Crawler ("secret item") from Vol 1... was mightily impressed. I hope F-Toys pick something NOT already done by Hasbro (again).

Neither walker quite does it for me. The detailing on the AT-AT is very good, but the overall doesn't work for me.

The flying vehicles all look tremendous though.

Here's the secret item from F-Toys Vol. 2... it's the Y-Wing with body shell.

Looks good to me! Another variation on Ralphie's design... it'll put the TS ones to shame.:)

I'm sold... just got one for $8 + $5 shipping on eBay. Couldn't resist.

Oh yeah, and I came across a couple of T4 toys...

Totally nifty to see another design of the shell-wearing Y-wing (I think this is based on the Ultimate Cross Sections picture), a good step from the Clone Wars one.

That's exactly what I was thinking, JT... a crossover Y-Wing between the CW one and the OT one. :)

I'll take a pic of it next to a TS one once it arrives... probably next week.

That T4 Hunter Killer looks nice, eh? It's definitely built for 3 3/4 figs so it'll probably be pretty big... I wonder how big? I already have an AF-sized resin one on a metal T2 base (can't remember who made it) but this looks even nicer in black, instead of silver.
Not so sure about the "Mototerminator" bike... belongs in Mad Max II: The Road Warrior with Lord Humungus on it.

I hate to burst your bubble, but it's in a small-vehicles wave. There's also an A-10 Warthog in that wave, so you'd think "oh, it's pretty big", except the toy fair pics of that showed the cockpit totally modified so that the figure basically takes up the entire fuselage ahead of the wings. About half to 2/3rds the size of the average Star Wars $20 vehicle. Still, I think that's an ok size if it looks good closed and it isn't $20.

Darth Duranium
04-08-2009, 05:00 AM
Thanks... but wrong bubble... that scale is still a bit too big for me... the smaller the better for me... you figure it's about a foot long? I'd prefer about 4-8".

The Japanese site I saw it at priced it at about 30 USD.

JediTricks
04-08-2009, 03:44 PM
Ah, i see what you're saying. It'll probably be about 25% larger than an Action Fleet vehicle, and I'm guessing the price will be $15 to $20 based on case sale prices.

Saw a tiny pic of Star Wars F-Toys Volume 3.

Looks like an A-Wing, B-Wing, X-Wing, Ep II JSF and H-Ring, AAT, and the mystery ship seems to be a TIE Interceptor.

Surprised to see these... thought they were kaput.

I found the pics on a Chinese blog... there was no text in English. I went back to the url but the pics aren't viewable anymore for some reason. They're due out in 2010... that's all I know.

Hmm interesting. Let's hope there's a second wave of Star Trek ships we don't know about yet. :)

As for the Gunship no I didn't. If I recall correctly it was a loose Gunship, whereas I'd be after a carded version.

New Star Wars F-Toys set #4 in November! Thanks to Aackbar for the tip.
Looks like the scale is starting to shift around a bit more.

http://kampfgruppe144.blogspot.com/2010/09/star-wars-vehicle-collection-vol4-f.html

http://d.hatena.ne.jp/ftoys/

1/144 - Y-Wing Fighter (Gold 3 - Ryle Torsyn?)
1/144 - Tie Bomber
1/350 - Slave 1 (Boba Fett version)
1/350 - Imperial Shuttle
1/15000 - Imperial Star Destoyer

1/??? - Series Special Item

Looking forward to their ISD and the mystery ship, especially.

Also came across a new Finemolds silver SW set:

I'm not wild about mono-coloured ships but FM's sculpting's awesome.

Asc, I've only got 2 SW F-Toys, actually... the TIE Crawler and the "covered" Y-Wing.
I converted the Y-Wing into a TYE-Wing... it was too big for my Titanium-scale collection until I modded it. Both the Y-Wing and Crawler are nicely done, though.
