That's correct, an optical disc capable of holding 500GB of storage space. This month's issue of CPU (Computer Power User) has an article on page 9 titled "Pioneer Ups The Blu-ray Disc Ante Again"

The premise here is that Pioneer claims they can produce a Blu-ray disc with 20 layers per disc, at 25GB per layer for up to 500GB per disc. Their goal is to have these to market between 2010 and 2012!

Can you imagine the possibilities?:D

It won't be too bad. Consider that it's still just a blu-ray disc. There appears to be no plans to release newer versions of blu-ray movies. In fact I would say there is no way Hollywood would even consider pushing for films to be released on an updated format, beyond the dual layer discs used now.

This will be more like a PC add (disc drive) in for people who need to archive massive amounts of data.
