Hello, long time collector who has just started to collect MM (a bit late to the scene, but whatever :pleased:). Anyway, I had seen that there were three more Epic Collections that I hadn't heard much about. So I guess what I'm wondering is:

Why are these so rare/expensive?
How much do they go for normally? (I'm hoping it's not a BIN price of $175)
Does anybody have any good loose shots of these?

Thanks in advance.

As far as I'm aware, it's because Galoob lost the licence to make SWMM's mid-way through the production run, plus they were never sold in the US market, only internationally.

They are VERY expensive - last time I saw one (I think it was pack no. 4) on eBay, it was going for about $75 USD. Luckily I managed to source mine really cheap from Cloud City, but I got the last ones.

Not sure about loose shots, but I'll see if I can take a few pics and get them up for ya. :)

Awesome, thanks. I guess $75 sounds a lot better than $175, although I'd still like to find it for a lot lower (within reason of the rarity)

Galoob never lost the SWMM license, they held it throughout the negotiations in '98 and kept it until the company was dissolved and absorbed into Hasbro in '01.

However, the sets were international-only, though I believe that was due to the very poor performance of 1-3 at US retailers (those little book sets BOMBED hard here).

BTW, welcome to the club, and great username!

That is a great user name... "never give up, never surrender" to the frizzies.

I'm surprised that these sets are apparently so pricey... I've seen them for MUCH less on ebay ($10/set) recently.

Just keep an eye on loose MM lots and you'll do ok, unless you're a boxed collector.

Galoob seems to have remained a strong cult following because of the smaller runs and the fact that a lot of this stuff simply won't be done by ANY other company ever ever ever.

That seems extremely odd ot me - are you sure you're not thinking of sets 1, 2 and 3?

Yeah, you might be confusing them with the first three. If not, that's a *really* good deal. I mean, wow.

Y'know, I had a better look at 4, 5, and 6 and I probably am mixing 'em up with the first 3... my apologies.

But I have seen a few of these mixed into MM lots on occasion... usually from Canadian or UK sellers. I don't collect MM anymore but I used to...

Hmmm, I've never thought of that before, thanks.

Well I had a look on eBay and there are some, but all from the same seller for $175 USD each.

If I'd known that they were that rare, I'd have nabbed 'em! In fact, I once bought a loose "lot" on eBay for $5 which had a big MM Death Star in it... it turned out to be crammed full of MM ships!

Well so far a few days searching on UK eBay has yielded no luck. Bummer.....

Not too terribly expensive, but more than I'm willing to spend right now.

I'm quite certain they'll be going up though, one thing you can always depend on is that the rare/underproduced Galoob items will continue to be popular enough to warrant high prices throughout the years.

Hmmm, for those sets, I could probably swing that price. Thanks for the heads up.

I collect the mm figures and always wanted to see what figures came in this second wave, any idea? The ebay listing only shows the covers. I saw a Dorsk 81 figure on a micromachine photo/collection site, that must be from one of them...
