Preorder is Jan 9th:
http://www.sideshowtoy.com/?page_id=6031&utm_source=010109newsletter

He looks a little squat the way he's set up, but I'm sure that's just pose and the pauldron.

The large weapon doesn't look even remotely familiar, it seems to have a drum magazine, but I'm sure it's one they actually found in the movie or in the archives.

I'll probably priority preorder this only to decide later whether or not I'll pull the trigger based on what I think of the Stormtrooper base figure.

Oh, and I'm sure the SSC guys had fun with that flash animation, but why is the quality so dodgy and there's no player controls or mute ability?

Well, we knew this would be the year of the armored figures from Sideshow and following the heels of the basic Stormtrooper, Utapau Trooper, TFU Commander, and now this Sandtrooper (all in appx 6 months) we're gonna get hit hard and fast with these.

I wish that Sideshow would consider the approach of doing say, this Sandtrooper as a deluxe kind of release...featuring all the relevant gear, back packs, weapons, shoulder pauldron variants and other accessories and just being done with it. Letting collectors buy multiple figures for their army-building and/or mix-n-matching.

But I know I'm dreaming. Sideshow has spent considerable resources coming up with their armored approach and while it's understandable that they would want to take full advantage of it, I think that means that instead of a deluxe style of release or any of these, we're gonna see the various "versions" of these come out one at a time with the hefty $90.+ price each.

So...get ready for the Orange Pauldron Sandtrooper with floating droid exclusive, the Gray Pauldron Sandtrooper with the big gun and on and on till every possible variant is eeked out one by one.

The only completists for this collection now are gonna be trustafarians and lottery winners....average working stiffs are gonna have to pick and choose and wait to see what variant pops up next. (I'm one of those stiffs BTW :))

Don't get me wrong...I'm excited about Sideshow finally tackling Armored characters in their sixth-scale collection...it's just that now it's pretty plain to see that as the cliche goes..."Watch out for what your wish for...you might get it!" really applies here....

Okay...done ranting now... ;)

I really like the Sandtrooper and I knew he was coming. I only hope they will release the other 2. And I'm going to keep my Medicom Sandie as well.

You can stop it by right clicking on your mouse and they hit play. ;) See attached pic.

There is no gray Sandtrooper, Hasbro made that up. There is only orange pauldron (Squad Leader), black pauldron (Corporal), and white pauldron (Sergeant)

Ah...did'nt know that. Figured it was something from the SE where I blinked lol ...

I am looking forward to better pictures of this guy though....hope it's soon.

That looks pretty good, but I would rather have the orange pauldroned version. This will work out though, because I can examine all the pictures of this one after it's released before they announce the orange pauldroned trooper.

As for the Grey version, wasn't there a closeup pic (still) used in early star wars promotions that sported what looked like a grey pauldron? Sandtrooper on a Dewback?

Even though I have the two marmit ones, I will get this - as long as screen accurate. That helmet on the Sandtrooper pic is not screen accurate yet - the black line should be above the eyes more, but that is an easy fix

There is no way they will release the one Sandtrooper will all three variants....too much money to be made of re-releases.

Prediction for Exclusive: flying droid thingee from Special Editions. Its the kinda ho-hum exclusive SS loves to do

I would love the get a Snowtrooper and Biker Scout (with Bike) in the next year

I'm curious what the exclusive will be. Hope not a colored stand. At least if it is a stand, they could make it look like sand on Tatooine...

I did a little bit of picture searching and found these. You should be able to figure out the scenes these are from.

BTW, the gun is a German MG-15.

EDIT: In the first pic it sure as heck looks like the Sandtrooper on the right has a grey pauldron. Just an observation.

And besides the 3 colored pauldrons we need to see the 3 different blaster rifles (besides E-11 blaster)

Pics are up at Sideshow:

Looks like they got most differences in armor - overall, I am happy with it. Sideshow Collectors members are saying this will be $109 with a flex pay option...we'll see Friday

Kinda pricey at $109, but it looks as good to me as RAH version at $150. Really like the weapon they chose!

AmanaMatt
01-08-2009, 11:58 AM
That weapon choice tells you the others are coming...man, not sure on the gun, but if its official, its cool. And marmit never did it with their two Sandtroopers done a few years back....

Other than the SS Sandtrooper helmet being off, the rest of it is pretty much dead on to the movie, which is impressive...!

I wish that Sideshow would consider the approach of doing say, this Sandtrooper as a deluxe kind of release...featuring all the relevant gear, back packs, weapons, shoulder pauldron variants and other accessories and just being done with it. Letting collectors buy multiple figures for their army-building and/or mix-n-matching.That would require including half of the armor parts being different, the Sandtrooper armor is an early version of the Stormie armor and has different stuff all around. Looks like SSC is capturing most of this, they even cut the hip blocks.

With all this stuff, I bet we'll see this over $90. :ermm:

So...get ready for the Orange Pauldron Sandtrooper with floating droid exclusive, the Gray Pauldron Sandtrooper with the big gun and on and on till every possible variant is eeked out one by one.Orange guy should be the only other one, and should come with the big gun (T-21). This figure really should have come with the DLT-19, not the MG-15 (clever name there btw, that's the actual name of the gun it's based on), suggests they may do the black pauldron one as well. Actually, there's an MG-15 held by an orange pauldron one, they're just mixing this all up because the white pauldron one is on the dewback and I don't remember him having a rifle, so yeah, that suggests they're doing all 3.

You can stop it by right clicking on your mouse and they hit play. ;) See attached pic.On mine it started over.

http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/1/1c/Sandtroopers2-hd.jpg

Oh, and the SEs have screwed that up even worse, those Sandtroopers are wearing Stormtrooper armor, the chest plate and hip plates visible here confirm the differences:

Sloppy!

I find the exclusive to be a tad underwhelming, but if you're gonna get a Sandtrooper, I guess that's a pose you're gonna want. Surprising to see there's Flexpay on this, there wasn't even Flexpay on Vader as far as I know.

I ordered it today...gonna try the flexpay for the first time, Glad this isn't out for a while...so much expensive suff already on the horizon with Stormie, Vader, Utapau Clone, etc...I appreciate them spacing it out a bit.

The gallery looks good, and I like the exclusive...small, but significant for a real ANH moment on display.

Thanks for the links with pics, Jt! That was the classic dewback shot I was referring to....

I used Flex pay with this one - no way I am cancelling and I did want the exclusive. Since I live in texas, I don't get the extra sales tax hit....overall, this looks like a quality Sandtrooper from SS

I wipped out my three Marmit ones (stormie and both Sandtroopers), and replaced their gun with the far superior SS stormie blaster, and they do look sweet.

I felt the same way about this one regarding the flex pay...I don't plan on canceling this figure.

I know everyone's hot for the orange pauldroned trooper, but the more I look at this one and consider the exclusive hand/droid part, the more I like this choice better...it's going to make a real cool movie-moment display piece this way. Looking forward to it...

I can't afford it right now and just got the notice in my email, so I canceled it. Kind of a bummer, but it's neither Vader nor a Stormtrooper so it's not as easy to struggle over.

BTW, the notice was a 12-day email, what happened to "21 days ahead of time"???

I'm on the wait list for an exclusive, because I missed the PPO. We'll see if I get it. If not, I'll have to buy a regular one online somewhere. :ermm:

I received my Sandtrooper today and for the most part it's ok. I do think the weathering is off and the helmet is not weathered like the picture on the box. I'm curious if this is an error on mine or if other recipients have the same error. The clean helmet with the dirty armor looks odd. I may send it back and order the orange pauldron version instead.

AmanaMatt
10-20-2009, 01:49 AM
I received my Sandtrooper came today and the helmet is dirty, not as much as the armor, but it does match...not clean at all

Over all, very impressed with this one. Weathering takes getting used to, but easily nicest 1:6 scale Sandtrooper done to date

Lenses on the helmet are dark green as they should be!

Rifle looks excellent

The exclusive droid part is NOT glued to the hand, so be careful with this one - easy to lose!

I read on other sites that the backpack straps are a nightmare(some have come already loose or broken)...some collectors have even taped them down & glued or puttied the backpack on where the armor indentation is. They're saying the straps don't support the weight.

sergiurusu
10-20-2009, 03:28 PM
Another Imperial joined my collection: Sideshow 1:6 Sandtrooper Exclusive. Again Sideshow sent the package with FedEx but this time it arrived in perfect shape not like 1:6 Vader. It was opened at customs but seems this time only opened the brown shipping box - still for that I had to pay $40 (customs charges and VAT tax).

The figure is quite cool, had to fix the chest armor making it tighter with a hairdryer, and the backpack was hard to attach with those tiny straps - at least none was broken as I read it happened to others. But I also attached the backpack with double tape so it won't be supported just by those stupid straps. I really like the Sandtrooper Rifle MG-15 (RT-97C) but the exclusive ring thing was kind of lame.

They are a cakewalk compared to the Hot Toys T600 backpack....have some good light available, and you'll be cool. On mine, they support the minimal weight just fine

Awesome pics, sergiurusu!....here are a couple of mine:

This figure has really grown on me since yesterday. Pretty much love it and its close to near perfect, IMO

Yeah, they are minor, but there. Mostly the shape of the hero helmet, which differed a tad from the stormie one, if I understand that correctly. That is the only thing keeping this from being 100% dead on accurate. The lenses are green, so that is one thing they did do to separate the stormie from the sandtrooper

Got mine yesterday...just a few minors. My stand(vertical shaft that holds the waist ring) split as soon as I inserted the metal part)-some black electrical tape fixed that until I can get some crazy glue. As carefully as the rifle was packed, the top scope broke off as I released from the tray. It was on crooked anyway, so again...Krazy glue(nice detail on the rifle). The exclusive "hand with ring"(watch it people, the droid ring is just laying in there) was nothing to brag about as an extra. I gently got it positioned between the thumb & forefingers, and some glue from a hot glue craft gun did the trick. I normally don't use stands if the figures have good balance & weight(never had to use one with SW Medicom RAH...ever), but I think the Sandie abso. requires it...didn't have issues with the backpack straps like many, once I got the tiny things in the over/under buckles. The double-sided tape(or even a velcro square under the indentations?) was a great idea, but the stand actually supports the backpack weight nicely. I love the detailing(glad to see in person the helmet was yellowed & weathered), and I thought the pauldron came out beautifully.

Stick the helmet up to a bright light...you'll see it. They are green, but a very dark green...in normal light, they look the same....
In this below pic, I upped the saturation level to show the lenses...here, you can somewhat see that they are green in direct light

Looks like SS got all the main ones....as for the helmet design, these were all hand made and not all are identical in shape as a result. Hero helmets were slighty different than background ones, but this is all anal-retentive stuff
