Sad news as he'll be the first Commissioner Gordon to many, many fans. I remember him in Ricky Bobby and seeing him in other spots as well.

He was one of our best character actors. You'll find him in Westerns, "Dirty Harry" movies, and even cartoon voice characterizations (the original Don Bluth's Land Before Time)

First Eartha Kitt and now Pat Hingle. I hope this doesn't continue to follow the rule of three. I'd hate to think of which actor/actress from the Batman franchise would go next to complete it.
