Are you speaking to me? I'm in my high stress mode now. We sell a bunch of bikes during the summer, I'm the only full time bike assembler at our store, we have one guy who works one day a week. I feel like choking someone! :upset:

If you re-read my post and think "Somalia", you'll see I wasn't dissing your Pirates, BCJ.Actually, MLB owns the rights to every type of pirate. So if ya's diss one pirate, ya's diss 'em all! Arr! :Pirate: And, yes, Diss the Pirate would be a cool name for an Ages 5-8 Parker Brothers game, I think. :D

Iowa City...

My dad's family's mother country is Iowa. The bulk of the family settled in Jones County way back when (after bailing out of Germany). Still a lot of extended family in Monticello and other towns around Jones County. However, my grandfather was born in Pomeroy. Then his family had the audacity to move to California in the very early 1900's.

If you're coming to D.C. don't do it in the summer. There are too many tourists and it's usually so hot and humid that you lose your will to live when you step outside. Spring is a great time (especially if you're into cherry blossoms) but I would recommend fall so you can drive through Virginia and see the leaves changing.

Fall would be my preferred time. I would love to experience fall in the East! I visited friends in Japan years ago one October. My buddy lives at the doorstep of a national park and the leaves were spectacular! I'd like to see the same in my own country.

Try living here in the San Joaquin Valley (aka The Breadbasket of the World) with a bazillion crops being planted (dust) and/or in bloom. Spring is one of God's meanest tricks here. :dead:

TeeEye7
04-20-2009, 02:39 PM
Are you guys having the same trouble with bee colonies collapsing out there?

Yep. In fact, stealing bee hives is big business with the crooks here (sorry to bring work into the conversation) since the bee population is declining. As I understand it, the bees are suffering from some sort of virus that's decimating whole colonies. As a result, growers with orchard crops (we have a TON of citrus, almonds, pistachios, cherries, etc.) have been seeking beekeepers from out of state to come and have their colonies pollinate their trees.

pbarnard
04-20-2009, 03:15 PM
I thought the virus is almost cancer like in the colony collapse? Must search through Nature, they had articles and podcasts last summer about it.

mtriv73
04-20-2009, 03:15 PM
It's pretty amazing that if something succeeds in killing off all the bees, we'll all be dead in a couple years from starvation. Oh well, who'd want to live without honey anyway?

And some of us have sig lines. (also exclusive - more elitist)
And some of us have sig lines. (determining what types of lines - purely technical)
And some of us have sig lines. (determining what types of sigs - also technical)

When I was young, I thought superfluous meant "excreted a lot of liquid." I based this on the context in which I always saw it, "superfluous third nipple." I really thought there were people walking around with a third nipple that was always leaking. I finally looked it up when I turned 12 and was shocked that it just meant unneccessary, unneeded, and extra.

Days if the PCR Thermocycler works, much less the PCR expierment....

My favorite is the GC/MS that doesn't have a bunch of samples needing to be run first, no calibration curve, and the print out gives you the answer. Yep, makes you wonder why you have to go to school for 4 years and than another 2-6 years post graduate to even be allowed to be considered "an expert" on it.
