Our interest or this thread dying? There is a difference.

Darth Cruel

Now, since I'm leaving on a 5-day vacation, I really hope this thread doesn't die off from lack of interest.

Coincidently...I am going on a 5-day vacation as well. Comic-Con Wednesday night and then off to Carlsbad Caverns in NM until Sunday. Will be rendezvouing with my bro there (and, hopefully, my sister as well).

I've got a day off, I've got a day off!

I go back to work tonight after a week off.

It will be my last week of working graveyards, which I prefer, and will miss after 15 years of working them. Due to budget cuts (and laying off half my unit), we will be working only 7AM to midnight. We will rotate an "on call" schedule with the remaining members in the unit for only "major" cases after 12. I will be working a swing shift from 4PM to midnight beginning next week. Gone are our 10-hour shifts/4 day work week (which I prefer as well).

My county is the size of the state of Massachusetts. How only seven of us will cover it will prove interesting.

State of California = trainwreck

The truth no one wants to hear, you have to have HIGHER taxes in order to get the services you want and pay off the debt, and never run a deficiet.

You either pay your taxes and get at least basic services, or you pay no taxes and get no services. I'm not particularly pleased with the "pay your taxes and still get no services" model we use in Kollyfornia.

I'm going to write in Billy Ocean on the next ballot. Maybe if he gets enough votes, it won't matter that he lives in England.

Chux just nailed it. Taxes have been going up and there's nothing to show for it. The State has been doing its best to run businesses out of here, as well. There goes revenues as well.

pbarnard

The only reason reality TV/game shows exist is because TV executives are too cheap to pay talented writers/producers to develop anything. Of course, it doesn't help that the average viewer lacks the intellectual capacity to follow good writing...

I just renamed all 300+ of my vacation digital pics.

On a case last night, we were talking about how we tend to shoot many more images thanks to digital formats than in the old days of film and printed pictures. We were more selective because of processing costs "back then". We processed our own film and photos then (some even in black and white !), so time and materials were of great concern.

Memory cards and CDs have given way to "shutter finger abandon"!

Yes, it was a nose problem. He was born too early to take advantage of Navin R. Johnson's Opti Grab, which would prevent his glasses from slipping down his nose.

I, too, miss hearing of his progress on his dioramas (I've helped contribute to his efforts and would like to hear updates!). Also, SSGers are missing out on his invaluable advice which is the saddest part of his departure.

Not Debbie and, uh, no.....this is a family site and I don't want to join the ranks of the banned.

Probably what is making this difficult is: A) a lot of you were either in diapers or not even born yet (70's remember?), and B) she's best known in country music. Yet she made great in-roads in the soft-rock (Eagles-type) music genre of the day.

Here's a hint: Linda Ronstadt and Dolly Parton.
