I think an ex-girlfriends mother gave me a picture of those three cemented prints once. We just had a third cop killed today in the Chicago area, this one was one week away from retiring, and he was just getting home this morning, after protecting Mayor Daley, and was shot by three thugs who wanted his new car.

bobafrett
08-01-2010, 04:36 PM
Wal-Mart has screwed up my vacation time. I usually take it in 1 or 2 days at a time, so they just keep me sceduled 5 days, and give me the days I ask off, but as paid days. So in a 7 day work week, I ask for 2 days off for example, they put on the schedule those 2 days as vacation, and I get paid for those days, but the rest of the week, where I should only be scheduled three other days, I get scheduled for all 5, so I get paid for 7 days. *sigh* And it's been that way the last 4 years. I only have 2 vacation days left until March.

A few years ago, the president was hosting a musical benefit for the arts at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Unfortunately, his Secret Service attachment all had some bad sushi and got serious food poisoning. "Oh no," said the president, "without my retinue of highly-trained Secret Service bodyguards, we'll have to cancel the show. If I don't have my entourage in their imposing suits, some terrorist might try to shoot me."

"Never fear, Mr. President," said one of the scheduled performers. "You can come onstage with me. My beard repels bullets."

Needless to say, that performer was Michael McDonald, and the president had the most fun of his life singing backup on "What a Fool Believes."

My desire, or need, to collect everything has been and continues to wane... I saw on RS that they are going to have the Lt Renz mini bust at CV for $10. Yep. That's me!

Thanks for the article. I will be forwarding this to my colleagues as a reminder. My unit is unarmed. In theory, we're supposed to always have a deputy "babysitting" us at a crime scene but many, many times we're left alone to complete our duties. I've been in more situations than I care to admit to where things have gone sideways which have resulted in some hand-to-hand "excitement". My family and I have a ritual when I leave the house involving the fact that I should come home safely after my shift. Luckily, it's been working so far!

A retired (deputy) buddy of mine posted a tribute on Facebook a couple of days ago putting the photos of twenty-five law enforcement officers we've lost in the past twenty-five years (yep, one a year) in my area. I've always considered my work "fighting the domestic wars". We suffer casualties just like the military (just not in the big numbers). There's no guaranteed we'll come back to our families after our shift. Ever wonder why cops, firefighters, paramedics have attitudes when the public slams them? Walk a mile in my shoes before you open your pie hole!

Pepper, my one-eyed wonder is doing fine, except a little bewildered with the loss of Dixie. She wanders around the house and yard as if to look for her. Strange yet poignant. Our other doxie, Lacey, is a bit depressed as well. She knows something is different, too.

And now for something different....

I worked this on Thursday. People have to realize what goes up must come down...and it may have deadly consequences.

I will be headed to a clinic today to have my school district-required TB test results read; what's the over/under on total fingers and toes of The 4th revelers in the waiting room?

Lowly Bantha Cleaner
07-05-2012, 01:33 PM
I'll take the over on 22 fingers/toes combination and I'd bet my monkey face Leia on it.

Also over/under and how long I keep my Christmas avatar?

Bel-Cam Jos
07-05-2012, 02:24 PM
I wasn't in there long enough to get an accurate count (only about 7 people waiting, and no one screaming or clutching their hands), sorry. But my prize for a negative TB result? I get to teach this year! :D

My avatar hasn't changed here since August 2001.
