ok... where are all the posts? I showered & shaved (feel like I missed an important step in there) and even deodorized & brushed teeth, but no posts while I've been gone. You guys just gonna let me take the prize?

Come on, now people... at this rate, I'll be posting from work before there are any replies...

I gotta pull myself out of this thread... I've barely made the rounds on other sites (not that I would actually visit any other SW website) and don't even realize until late in the day that I haven't even been to SSG's homepage. I feel like Hasbro could release a new large scale AT-AT and I wouldn't know unless someone posted it in here.

Even outer space isn't completely empty. You still have a stray hydrogen atom here or there and the occasional really big asteroid with a giant space slug in it. The only "place" that might be completely empty would be outside of the area the universe has expanded to since the big bang. But since that space isn't (yet) part of the universe does it even really exist?

Yes, but I wasn't speaking about outer space... I would have said outer space if I meant that. I was refering to just space, like an empty parking space, the space in an empty box, the space between my ears, etc... it's all empty... nothing there... nada.

Ah, but empty parking spaces definitely count if your looking for a spot to leave your car.

Empty boxes definitely count if you're moving (which I did last summer.)

As to the space between your ears, I would have to assume it counts too even if it is worthless  (just kidding of course)

You say God give me a choice

However, I don't really like the story of star wars. I like the designs and the sets and all the props and stuff but not the actual story. I don't think i ever have. I've definitely never liked the lead characters.

Hey bobafrett... I ever tell you my boys and I are HUGE baseball fans (both play baseball) and (you'll never guess this) big Cardinals fans? Although, with last year and what next year looks like, it's getting harder since Cardinal fans have been spoiled for awhile now. Hey, did the cubs resign Jim Edmonds?

I'm an odd Cardinals fan though... I'm one of the minority that felt that since the Cards didn't make it, I was hoping the Cubs made it to the playoffs (and further). I keep meaning to get up there to see a game. I've never seen one at Wrigley or Comminsky parks. I'd love to visit all parks, but have only been to (of course) Busch, San Diego, Boston, NYY (the Mets stunk the year I lived in NY and could never bring myself to actually buy a ticket and then was too busy and run out of time before I moved back). Is that really all? I thought I"ve been to more, but can't come up with any right now.

yeah, but it's not common in certain places, like around the equator. I doubt non-mountainous areas of Mexico and Latin America get much snow. Although, last I checked GB is a little north of the equator. I spent the 2 weeks prior to Christmas in England several years ago... I can speak for the rain... yes, they get plenty of rain. But, no snow while I was there, though I'm not sure when GB's winter is.

um, we're just next to Norway. some parts of the UK seem to have snow all year every year. however, I'm located on the west coast looking out at Ireland. you'd also maybe think being so close to the Atlantic ocean that the cold winds would bring snow but the tiny peninsula i live on is protected so we only get snow in conditions like minus 3,000,000 degrees. mostly we just have rain. we get twenty minutes of sunshine per year on a tuesday usually in early July.

No looks like he won't be joining the Cubs this year. Might be because they got Milton Bradley.

I'm an odd Cardinals fan though....

All Cardinals fans are a bit odd......... :D Cubs fans rule!

What do Seward's Folley, the annexation of Hawaii, and yellow journalism all have in common?Hearst newspapers?

JetsAndHeels
01-15-2009, 12:20 AM
They were all driven by economic interests.

-Seward's Folley involved the US purchasing Alaska from Russia
-Hawaii was annexed by the US in 1898, due to a need for expansion driven by economic means with sugar plantations
-Yellow Journalism was driven by the competition between Hearst and Pulitzer to outsell each other by exaggerating stories about how Spain treated the people of Cuba

obi-dad
01-15-2009, 12:27 AM
What do Seward's Folley, the annexation of Hawaii, and yellow journalism all have in common?

Yellow.

1. Seward's Folly = purchase of Alaska by Secretary of State William Seward & since gold and oil were discovered there, the purchase turned out not to be so much of a folly (and gold is yellow).

2. US & European planter & business men were involved in the overthrough of the native Hawaiian royalty and government, which was later annexed (President Cleveland rejected the idea and considered the overthrow of the rightful Hawaiian government to be a "substantial wrong," and sought to restore the monarchy. The rebels then formed a Republic on 4 July 1894, which lasted until the next US president, McKinley, agreed to annexation in 1898, whereupon Hawaii became a territory of the USA.) And, it was all over quality pineapples, which are yellow on the inside.

3. Yellow journalism... speaks for itself and contrary to popular myth has little to do with gross exagerations to sell newspapers, but the color the newspapers turn as they age. :D

Oh cool... I heard it was when one of us passed the sum of all members' post count.

This wasn't even worth the time it took and subscripts and superscripts didn't format copy from Word, but the math geek in me had to...

Let n = number of the forum members

Let xi = the number of post by the ith forum member (ie x1606 = the number of post by me, the 1606 member to register at SSG)

Then,

n
∑ xi = the total number of post by all members at SSG
i=1

So, when your total number of posts >

n
∑ xi , then you win!
i=1

The largest number of replies to a given post is 598,611 replies to the question: What data have you made up off the top of your head? which can be found at postpadder.com (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSsJ19sy3JI)

I like the taste of squash with cheese on it. I could never understand why people say cheese when they take a photo. I was once in a race with a photo finish. In that race was last. I don't like to go last because there isn't much of a selection left. I'm left handed. I once single handedly wrestled an octopus at the bottom of the sea. My favorite kind of tuna is "Chicken of the Sea". I wish I could have some "Tuna Helper" for dinner tonight. I was once my mommy's special little helper when we baked cookies. Does anybody else think that Cookie Monster has a drug addiction. I was once addicted to the smell of mouse droids. Tycho also likes the smell of mouse droids. Tycho said I scare even him sometimes. how do i know if i want to win anything? what is the prize? is it a just reward or a piffling trifle of a thing that is no use whatsoever? How large is the prize? who picked it and how do they know anyone will like it? How much thought was given to the prize? can the prize think? who is watching over Steve to make sure when he closes the thread he doesn't just pick a favoured forumite over some n00b? Who watches the watchmen? i haven't any idea who the watchmen are but i like the name. I'm changing my name someday before i die. I want an octuple barrelled name in Polish so no-one can pronounce it and it looks wrong when written down like a whole load of leters just got spilled across the page. Actually i discovered a million other jargo's across the internet as i searched for myself while bored. it's both a first and last name and I have no idea what it means but hey, i had it since 2000 and i aint changing it for no-one. even if they asked. or held a knife to my particulars. isn't it strange how in England we call pants trousers and underwear underpants? though i don't actually own any underpants because they never fit me properly and make me sweat too much. which i'm doing now sat here, sweating like a hippo in a sauna. though i'm not sure if Hippo's take saunas. or if there are towels big enough to go round them. but I like the idea of Hippo's taking saunas same as i like the idea of hippo's driving bubblecars which are mescherschmidt made same as the german warplanes of the 1940's. though hitler prefered volkswagen and chewing the carpet. and i can feel my carpet through my socks which are brown stripey ones and are too small and cutting into the flesh round my ankles. but that's ok coz i don't really need feet as i don't leave the house much and choose instead to sweat while sitting in front of the computer chillaxing and chatting away to people from all over the world about this and that. which makes me think of take that who have a new song in the charts that i hate because gary barlow can't pronounce his words correctly and the song is dull and turgid. Like Keeanu Reeves who has no acting ability yet still gets cast in movies that cost a lot to make. and keeanu sounds like a dolphin's name. which is stupid as no-one names a son after a dolphin. even if the dolphin was heroic and planted mines on enemy ships during the war. which i like the ida of except i would have used sea monkeys because monkeys have hands and opposable toes making them more suited to manual labour and delicate tasks involving explodey things. in fact i like monkeys more than any other animal besides dogs. coz dogs are cool with a capital K. and smell nice and like to sleep next to you so you never feel alone and then fetch things for you and protect you which a monkey probably wouldn't do unless you gave it peanuts and bananas and exotic fruits and a second monkey to fling doon at. though i wouldn't like my monkeys to fling doon because I'd have no feet and wouldn't be able to clean any off high places like curtain pelmets and light fittings. and not even a dog can do that so maybe i should have a cleaner who doesn't have a tongue and says nothing do the doon cleaning for me. and she or he could make me food and mugs of tea and bring them to me on a tray. then take the tray away when i'd eaten so ther wasn't a mountain of trays around the house fr me to slip on as i waddled round like a walrus with a monkey on my back.

No, he has gone one step beyond Tycho. He has gone Tom Cruise!

Hey you, don't watch that
Watch this!
This is the heavy heavy monster sound
The nuttiest sound around
So if you've come in off the street
And you're beginning to feel the heat
Well listen buster
You better start to move your feet
To the rockinest, rock-steady beat
Of madness

SirSteve's online right now. He's gonna close this thread with me as the last one! I just know it!

Actually, this whole thing's rigged. SirSteve is going to announce that the first post of this thread is the winner, not the last! We've been doing it backwards all along!

you still have 25 minutes... I used to watch Louis & Clark, I mean Smallville. Well, I did use to watch Louis & Clark also, but that wasn't the show I was referring to. I like shows. When I lived in NY, I went to see Broadway shows. I sat next to Brian Dennehy when I saw some play with Woopi Goldberg in it, but I don't remember the play's title. Brian was in rehersals for the play he was in ("Long Day's Journey into Night"), but I didn't see that. I did see him in Cocoon, Foul Play, & F/X among other movies. I like movies. I have HBO and see movies on tv. I like tv. I saw ex-Doogie Howser star, Neil Patrick Harris on "How I Met Your Mother" which reminded me how hilarious I thought he was in Harold & Kumar go to White Castles. I also saw Neil Patrick Harris live on Broadway in "Caberet" which he was also excellent in. I've never been to a caberet, though I was in Paris with my girlfriend. I had a girlfriend once. Actually more than once. The last time, somehow it led to marriage, but that didn't last. Tootsie Roll pops don't last either. Mr. Owl only was able to count 3 licks. My mom was a teacher and did a thing on owls years ago. She asked my dad to take her to Hooters to get some Owl parafanalia. I don't think either of my parents had ever been to Hooters before. They were shocked... well, my mom was... I think my dad was rather pleasantly surprised. I've never had a surprise birthday party. I like parties. I used to get pretty drunk at parties, but I try to do better now. Whats bad about getting drunk? Just ask a glass of water. You may recognize that last line... I read it here in someone's signature. I also read in this forum that Bobafrett is going to watch Supernatural, but it hasn't started yet.... you still have 7 minutes, but last time I checked we had 25 minutes.

It's 8:58 pm & I haven't eaten dinner yet. Well, it's 8:58 pm here, but in NY, it's almost 10pm...what am I doing waiting so late? In 4am in England... I should be in bed. Well, I have 30 seconds to make dinner before Supernatural starts... I gotta run, but I don't have the runs.

I was contagious once with the flu. I flew in a plane before. When I was little I went to see "A Land Before Time" in the theater. The main character of the film was Littlefoot. This morning when I woke up I was covered in a strange film. Is it strange that I talk to myself in the in the third person? Some people say that I'm too shy and quiet in person while others say I talk too much and never shut up. I was shut up in the basement for nearly 20 years of my life before I ever saw sun light. Did you know that Earth is the third rock from the sun. As an actor the Rock isn't very good. Actors have self inflated egos. I once inflated all the tires of a semi truck with my mouth. Mouth was the name of one of the characters from "The Goonies". Another character from "The Goonies" was Sloth. Sloth hung out with Chunk. Chunk visited my college when I was a student. As a student in high school I graduated tenth in my class of around one seventy five students. When I graduated I was also only one of fifteen students to receive an honor's diploma. Fifteen is also one of the numbers from LOST if I'm not mistaken. LOST begins its new season next week. My favorite season is winter because I don't have to clean the pool. When we got the pool I was the only one opposed to wanting it, and to this day (11-12 years later) I am the only one in my family who has never used it, yet I'm the one who gets stuck with cleaning it which is unfair. One thing I've learned in life is that it is unfair. I also learned that it hurts to get kicked in the head when you stand in front of someone on the swings. I like to swing.

Did you say win? I was told that I'd win. At least thats what the turnip at the gate said. He was a big turnip and he smelled of candy. I like candy. Candy makes me hyper. When I'm hyper I run around in huge circles and take off all of my clothes. When I'm not wearing clothes I'm cold, especially when I'm outside. It is at least 20 degrees outside. There is snow outside. The snow is yellow. Yellow snow smells funny. I like how food smells. When I smell food it make me hungry. I'm hungry right now. I haven't ate since last night. Its dark at night. The dark is scary. I don't like to be scared because then I wet myself. When I wet myself it itches. When I itch I want to scratch. I once scratched my skin till it was raw. I once ate raw hamburger and I got sick. When I'm sick I usually throw up. Sometimes when I throw up it tastes just as good coming up as it did going down. I was once down when my pet fish died. I once dyed a shirt. I like pictures on shirts. I am very good at drawing pictures. In case you haven't noticed I'm just drawing at straws now. I like bendable straws.

Sorry about that, it was my doing (not on purpose though). I just (by accident) discovered a new way to lock a thread that I didn't know I had. Apparently on the main "thread selection" screen of the forums I moderate if I double click on the envelope icon next to a thread I can open/close that thread instantly. I was talking to one of my brothers (not JBF) while trying to go into a thread and got distracted as to where I was clicking on the screen. Once I realized what had happened I quickly re-opened it.

It would be if it was intentional (and know I've joked about doing it a few times in here). But I assure you it wasn't intentional bigb. If it was do you think I would of re-opened the thread or admitted to closing it. :whip: It was a complete accident.
