coming from someone who wasted a good amount of time yesterday catching up on all I "missed" while I was out of town... no. The only significant comment was from bobafrett wondering where I was. Now, that was important, but I'm not sure there was anything else... other than my last lyrics challenge that went unanswered.... funny how all the important posts were either from me or about me!!!

I posted this in the 'pit, but I'm going to repeat it here since hardly no one goes in there (me included).

During the inaugural ceremony, I thought it was interesting that the classical piece that was peformed by Yo Yo Ma, Yitzak Perlman, et al. was composed specially for the occasion by... John Williams!

I thought the technical term was arrangement, but still good work if you can get it. Course, that's still one hell of a quartet no matter how you slice it.

What is up with the ads in between posts....really annoying!

There is only supposed to be 1 ad in the thread itself (after the first post) but it's not working correctly yet... still working on it. Since no one has mentioned it, we removed the ad that was under the header (it was moved as it was not performing well). Personally, I don't believe it is very intrusive and it gets noticed. These ads are what keeps the site going. It's a catch 22... without traffic, no ads. Without ads, no traffic.

I think no one mentioned it because we all assumed that the ad appearing between posts was in fact the same ad and that you had just moved the location of where it was appearing. ;)

No, there are no prizes yet.

Ok, if they provide pictures, yes, I will scan and send images to the winner.

I'm too young for this, but it was free and my mom's dad died of prostrate cancer and my dad got prostrate cancer last year. Yes, I know that it is not the same as the colon.

You probably have more posts per page which would mean more ads. I think I go with 10 posts per page (and I would assume that's the default and the one that Steve uses to judge things) and most everyone else does as well. I only see the 1 ad after the first post and the one on the side.

I see three on this page right now.

I honestly didn't expect this thread to still be open. I've been crazy busy the last few days. We changed servers on Matt's site, but the guys who were hosting the site previously screwed us over and we ended up losing about 70% of the content on the site including our forums. So I've spent the last few days recreating blog entries and we're probably going to just start over again from scratch on the forums.

I've had to give myself a crash course on PHP and MySQL in the last few days (I've never worked with either of them before), so sleep has become something of a luxury.

I don't do that many transfections (unless I'm trying to add a telomerase or an SiRNA.) We make SIV (simian immunodeficiency virus) specific T-cell clones and use them for in vitro and (through adoptive transfer) In vivo studies to assess the effects on viral replication/spread.

For me, today has been an interesting one to say the least. Several of the Power Ranger forums are having full on panic attacks at the moment. I can't recall the last time I've seen such panic over a TV show.

Apparently they got an email reply back from Disney XD's director of media relations in regards to the lack of new Power Ranger info. for the upcoming season ("Disney XD" is what "Toon Disney" will become on February 13th at midnight). According to the email the seventeenth season (Power Rangers RPM) will not air at all on XD, but instead will be exclusive to the "ABC Kids" Saturday block on ABC.

That might not seem like a big deal, after all new cartoons and kids shows airing on Saturday mornings is nothing new, but it is for two important reasons. ABC can pre-empt the show nationally, or sometimes just the west coast, for ABC Sports coverage events. If only the west coast gets pre-empted, the east coast gets a new episode (and the west coast just flat out skips over that new episode as if it never existed). ABC also gives full control to the individual local affiliates as to what/when to show the "ABC Kids" block. As Power Rangers is not E/I (and the stations are required to fulfill E/I requirements first), many of the affiliate stations simply don't fill obligated to show it at all (in favor of local news, local & national sports, or infomercials). And what few that do show it, most choose to move it from what should be a "noon/12:30PM Saturday" showing to days/times (changing sometimes on a week-by-week basis) that people normally can't watch it (2AM Saturday, 3AM Saturday, 9AM Sunday, etc.).

So now you have a lot of PR fans running around in circles not knowing what to do. It doesn't affect me much personally in regards to RPM, as I've been relying on ABC for years now since they started showing "new episodes" first on Toon Disney, but I do see that this move could (in long run) potentially screw the PR show's chances of future seasons beyond RPM.

One man owned all the Wendy's in St. Louis. I never got the whole story, but I thought I heard something about a divorce and declaring bankruptcy so that she didn't get everything... have no clue if the other parts are true. I do know:

1). All Wendy's in the St. Louis area were owned by 1 man
2). That man did declare bankruptcy
3). All Wendy's in the area went bye-bye

That was a couple of years ago. There are a few in the area now, but none close to me (well, there is one within 15-20 minutes).

Possibly true facts: Spandau Ballet was named after a suburb of Berlin.

The group Berlin is actually from Orange County, CA.

Berlin had a hit song with "metro"

The mass transit system in Berlin is called U-Bahn not metro

"Riding on the U-Bahn" is not as catchy a lyric as "riding on the Metro" even if Terri Nunn is singing it.

Terri Nunn of Berlin auditioned for the role of Princess Leia in Star Wars.

She did not get the part.

I find myself using the GBA more for linking to GCN games than for playing actual GBA games. Initially I got it to play the two Oracle Zelda games for the GBC. Even though it was more expensive I figured I might as well get the GBA instead of a GBC, that way I'd save myself the trouble should any GBA games come out later that I wanted. I have a few GBA games here and there, but I probably got the most use out of my GBA from using it with the GCN games Zelda: Four Sword Adventures, Zelda: Wind Waker, and (like you) Animal Crossing. Speaking of Animal Crossing. It took about 5 years (playing everyday), but a few weeks before Christmas 08 I got that pesky Post Model by saving 999,999,999 bells at the Post Office. So I've taken the game as far as I can go without cheating. My Nook catalog is complete and I own every "non-cheat" obtainable item. I don't know whether you would consider that a "sad" or a "happy" moment. Guess it depends on who you talk to. :D

I was playing it some more today and this really is my favorite of the Zelda series. I tried Twilight Princess on the Wii, but it was just too dark and depressing for my tastes. Wind Waker is just so cheerful, lighthearted and positive that I can't help but like it the best of the series.
My favorite would have to be either Link to the Past or Ocarina of Time. LttP, while not the first 2-D Zelda game, really did perfect how the 2-D games played from the NES days. OoT on the other hand practically nailed the 3-D games on the first go through. Graphics wise its dated compared to the more recent outings, but I don't think any of the other 3-D games have really come close to touching the balance that OoT did. The right amount of dungeons, a sense of openness for exploration (not too constricted or linear feeling).

Interestingly enough, that Saturday morning cartoon tone makes for some of the scariest video game monsters I've seen. Especially the zombies and those little imps that like to swarm you, those things still creep me out to this day.
I don't know, I think the Re-deads look scarier in Twilight Princess than they do in Wind Waker. Wind Waker is great game though. A lot of people seem to hate the sailing aspect of the game, but the one of my favorite parts actually. I can go hours on end just sailing the Great Ocean.

nice to see the penultimate power of SSG sharing in the quest for the brass ring.
You mean "again", since I've posted 12 prior times, I believe.

Ever sprinkle Cookie Crisp on vanilla ice cream and top it all with Hershey's syrup?

No I haven't. But it's only because I didn't wanna get diabetes from eating a single meal.;)

Trix makes a good topping too.

I've actually never thought of using cereal to top ice cream. I can't lie though. The Cookie Crisp one sounds good.

Well, I'm going into Tosche station to pick up some power converters.

By the way, Tycho's gynecologist thread is gone. And JT was here for the first time in several days. What a strange coincidence. ;)

just woke up in front of the tv. how long does it take to get a passport? And, if you had one that expired ages ago, can you still "renew" it? I have no clue where mine is. last time I used it was in 89, so I'm sure it's not even renewable, but someone was telling me about AA flight to Europe from certain cities for under $200 and If it were really that cheap, I may just go again, even if it were only for an extended weekend, just to go.

If I'm not mistaken it takes about a week or two to get it. I think they usually cost around $100.

Maybe I'll just take another tour of GB, but this time go visit SSG forum members. Never made it to Ireland last time... that's where Devo's from right? or is that someone else here?
