Never mind she's the best female singer of all time, or maybe in a tie with Billie Holiday and Aretha. I just read this article, and it warmed my heart:

LOS ANGELES We saw Beyonce play Etta James. We probably won't soon see the singing divas duet. The 71-year-old singer says in an audio clip that surfaced online Thursday that she would "whip" Beyonce for singing "her song" "At Last" at an inaugural ball for President Barack Obama.

"The great Beyonce ... I can't stand Beyonce," James said in the clip from a Jan. 31 concert at the Boulevard Casino in Coquitlam, British Columbia. "She has no business up there, singing up there on a big ol' president day, gonna be singing my song that I've been singing forever."

Beyonce portrayed James and sang the 1941 song written by Mack Gordon and Harry Warren in the film "Cadillac Records" last year.

Spokespeople for James and Beyonce declined to comment.
Awesome. Simply awesome.

She's not afraid to call out some talentless bimbo who gets recording contracts because she has a nice butt. Who turned in the flattest version of "At Last," even counting Cyndi Lauper's travesty from a few years ago.

They may call you a hater, but you're still the Queen of the Blues. You hold your court and feel free to poke at the jester who's stealing your thunder.

I'm going to go put on some random 1950s Etta James album now and play it as loudly as possible, because she rules!

Anyone who disagrees with me on this point is a poopiehead.

This old dumb broad is still alive?
I never even heard of her until Beyonce made her relevant and even then, I assumed she was a corpse.

I better claim her ASAP for the Dead Pool...

Etta James will never die. Never.

And you're officially our first poopiehead.

At Last! (the album) is definitely one of the ten best albums of all time from any genre.

Even if she didn't have a great voice, I love Etta just because she hates Beyondo Beyonce.

Except that she doesn't. (http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/02/06/james-obama-beyonce-slams-were-just-jokes/#more-38868)

James: Obama, Beyonce slams were just jokes

From CNN Assignment Editor Lauren Kornreich

(CNN) – Legendary singer Etta James said she was only trying to be funny when she said Beyonce is “gonna get her *** whupped” and that President Obama has “big ears.”

James, who first made the comments at a concert in Seattle last week, told the Daily News on Friday that she continued the insults because the crowd was laughing. She said that her jokes were “not from a vicious place.”

"I didn't really mean anything," James told the Daily News. "Even as a little child, I've always had that comedian kind of attitude. That's probably what went into it."

James added that she was "feeling left out of something that was basically mine, that I had done every time you look around."

The legendary singer told the paper that she’s always thought Obama was “handsome,” but said that because of her joke he “might not ever like me in life.”

But Obama has “other stuff [to worry about] besides Etta James,” she said.

James, famous for the song “At Last,” did admit she was annoyed that Beyonce was chosen to perform the song as the first couple danced together on Inauguration night. James, when asked if she could have done better, said “I think so. That’s a shame to say that.”

She just can't act worth a crap. And her butt ain't that great, it could be more round. But she can sing. Beyonce, Mariah Carey, and Christina Aguilara, they can all sing circles around their pop R&B contemporaries and look good doing it, they just generally choose (or write) lesser music to fit the pop thing.

Compared to someone like Etta James, she is talentless. Compared to Etta James, even Madonna is talentless. :)

Compare this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fSY_S45rZ4&feature=PlayList&p=3B745909A52F748A&playnext=1&index=7) to this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8FHwsATN0E). Really. No contest. Beyonce should just give up. She's flatter than an RC Cola that's been left open on the porch for a week.

Besides, as long as Sharon Jones (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ouI5KcyHfE) is alive (and she's only 52 and just hitting it big now), Beyonce will never even be in consideration for the best female R&B singer.

Flat? She's in a higher key, that's the main comparison I can make. They are different versions of the same song done by different performers. I think maybe you're just taking shots to be arbitrary, if you like 1 thing you have to dislike another.

I agree with JT that Beyonce can sing...but I liked her performance in Austin Powers 3, so I won't diss her acting (at least not in that movie).

Her husband, on the other hand, is a tool.
