I just got word that all the mighty muggs lines(GI Joe, Star Wars, Marvel, Transformers) starting this fall, just in time for the holidays, will be Toys-R-Us only items. Yes folks, the idiots at hasbro just sold a goose egg to a retailer that is already on life support. The funny thing about this is that TRU will not survive this recession, they are down to only 200 stores or less and are one of the retailers scaling back as I write this. What does hasbro have on thier brains? TRU will not even be here in september. They recently went from a publically traded company to a privately owned one, which anyone with a business background knows is the first step to calling it quits. This allows a company to close up at a moments notice like circuit city without shareholders suing you. You will find lots of neato stuff this year before they go belly up. Diaomond select will also be dumping lots of formerly comic store exclsuives to TRU also, as every day that goes by, more comic shops go under and diamond is sitting there with no one to buy all thier toys. Target turned them down back in november. I like to call target the empty peg store...you know what I mean. You will also see lots of video game toys and figures as game stop will no longer be carrying toys based on current games. This is another company you will soon see closing more than half thier stores(all mall stores first). EA fired half thier emplyees along with sony no longer manufacturing PS3's and all the lawsuits against X_box/microsoft and lets not forget this recession thing. I cant believe that the execs at hasbro dont see past next week as this recession is just starting and more retail like TRU will not make it through....there are going to be so many collectors without thier mighty muggs because of this. According to what I got in hasbro is sort of setting the mighty mugg thing as second class toy thing as it will not be part of the target and wal-mart summer toy resets anyway....even if TRU did not buy the exclusive. Oh well....welcome to a tough year for collecting anything.

It was either make them a retailer exclusive, or stop making them entirely.
Hasbro said that they had to scale back some lines due to the economy. It was both these and the lil 2" statue figures, the name of the line escapes me, that were on the chopping block. Hasbro shopped them around, and Toys R Us apperantly wanted Mighty Muggs. So at least they'll continue.
Toys R Us is honestly the best store to get them. Considering they have a good website.
Look on the bright side. Look how long JLU is still going strong as a retailer exclusive.

Well, you cover a lot of ground in your post, but let's start with the thread topic.
I'm not much of a Mighty Mugg fan. I bought two of them a couple of weeks ago and lost interest pretty quick. They're fun to look at on the store shelves, but I would never collect them extensively at $11 each. Besides I got the only one I really cared about (Removable Helmet Vader). So the more shelf space for Legacy and Clone Wars at Wal-Mart the better.
I saw some Diamond Select Darth Mauls at TRU last week and balked at the $80 pricetag. I don't see that line surviving long at all.
It'll suck if TRU goes under, but that's going to start happening to a lot of stores. No one really knows how bad this recession is going to get, but if Wal-Mart starts closing down stores, then we know that we're in serious trouble (as a nation, not just as toy collectors).
What's the deal with Sony no longer manufacturing PS3s? I had never heard that before. Are they abandoning the system, has it been that big of a failure at retail?
Honestly I do think that Hasbro is thinking about the long term survivability of their company. If they have to sacrifice a few moderately successful toy lines (are Mighty Muggs really even that successful?) and tick off some fringe collectors to stay in business, then I say more power to them.
If this recession turns into a depression, then I think that maintaining our Star Wars toy collections will be the least of our concerns.

Unleashed Battle Packs? They're discontinuing those? Good. :) Again, the more shelf space they can dedicate to the Legacy and Clone Wars lines, the better.

That was it! Yeah, I was surprised the line lasted as long as it did.
And to the OP. You might want to use some returns and paragraphs. That huge block of text is really difficult to read. There's an enter key on your keyboard for a reason.
Also, some of what you're posting is speculation and nonsense.

I just want to point out that FLORIDA COLLECTOR X has absolutely no idea what he's talking about. Let's go down the list.

This is a blatant lie.
There's an entire new Star Wars wave that is going to be exclusive to Target, along with the regular wave 9 that is going to be available at all retailers.
Also, only a week ago, they announced new figures in the Marvel wave 7, alongside two exclusive Target Muggs.
There's absolutely nothing to back up the entire line going TRU-only. (And the line being a gooseegg isn't true either.
Diaomond select will also be dumping lots of formerly comic store exclsuives to TRU also, as every day that goes by, more comic shops go under and diamond is sitting there with no one to buy all thier toys.
Talked to my local comic guy, who would absolutely know if this was true.
And he said it isn't.
You will also see lots of video game toys and figures as game stop will no longer be carrying toys based on current games.
And this is where your post COMPLETELY falls apart.
GameStop doesn't carry video game toys. Here and there they'll get a few Nintendo ones, and they had some Halo 3 ones at launch, but barely any as it is.
I worked at GameStop through all of 2006 and I'm kept up to date with the company. What are you talking about?
This is another company you will soon see closing more than half thier stores(all mall stores first).
Uh... what? No, they're not. GameStop is doing incredibly well. They're testing out new "lounge style" shops in Florida. More than half? No, they're not. That's simply not true.
EA fired half thier emplyees
No, they didn't. That's a lie.
along with sony no longer manufacturing PS3's
What you just said is something you made up. Sony is manufacturing PS3s. This is fact.
and all the lawsuits against X_box/microsoft and lets not forget this recession thing.
There's no lawsuits against Microsoft that are putting Xbox in danger.
And the recession? Gaming was proved to be almost recession proof this holiday. Sales were fantastic.
If I sounded harsh, sorry, but nothing makes me more annoyed than people who spread blatant lies. Saying PS3 is no longer being manufactured proves you really shouldn't be taken seriously with this thread.
Next time, list sources and if you want to be taken seriously, don't make things up and type a little more maturely.

From Toy Fair:
Some new assortments in Fall; some familiar assortments will not be continuing (Unleashed 2"; Mighty Muggs will become TRU exclusive)

Yeah. Mighty Muggs are going TRU exclusive in the Fall.
But there will be more waves and exclusives through other stores til then.
Edit: Julius Marx from AFI clarified that only Star Wars Muggs are going Exclusive.

Sounds like it's only the Star Wars ones.
