Ok, I like stormtroopers, but they all look pretty much the same to me (apart from the pumped-up POTF efforts, obviously), so I'm not making any comments. Basically, if it's white, with good proportions and articulation, then it scores highly. Some of the EU repaints look better than others, which I've rated accordingly, but generally I like my stormiesto be white.... they're not multi-coloured clones.

1. Stormtrooper (1978 Vintage) 2 -Not too bad for its time.
2. Stormtrooper (1995 POTF2) 0 -Even when it first came out, it never looked right.
3. Crowd Control Stormtrooper (1996 POTF2 Deluxe) 0
4. Stormtrooper with Battle Damage (1999 POTF2 Commtech) 3 -The stormtrooper to actually look like one. It still holds up well even though the articulation is lacking.
5. Stormtrooper (2002 Saga Troop Builder Set) - Commtech without blast damage 3
6. McQuarrie Concept Stormtrooper (2003 Saga #34) - Fan's Choice #4 2 -Interesting sculpt, but the paint job doesn't reveal the details very well.
7. Stormtrooper (2003 Saga Imperial Forces Battle Pack) - kitbash of POTJ and Commtech 2
8. Stormtrooper (2004 VOTC) 4 -Pretty much the perfect stormtrooper. My only complaint is the chest joint is sometimes loose.
9. 501st Stormtrooper (2006 TSC Comic-Con Exclusive) - VOTC repaint with banner and stand 4 -Liked the stand and flag that came with it.
10. Shadow Stormtrooper (2006 TSC StarWarsShop Exclusive) - black repaint of VOTC Stormtrooper with silver stand 4 -I always like a few variations in my army. I look at these painted stormtroopers as sort of special forces of the Imperial army.
11. Concept Stormtrooper (McQuarrie Signature Series) (2007 30th Anniversary #09) - repaint of Saga 2003 figure 3 -The paint job was alot better on than on the SAGA version. Really brings out the detail.
12. Stormtrooper (2007 30th Anniversary #20) - retooled VOTC with removable helmet 3 -I always thought this was kind of a step back from the VOTC. First off, I hate the squishy helmet. It should have been made of firmer plastic. Secondly, It seems like the head is placed on it in such a way the when the helmet is on, it appears "goosenecked."
13. Governor Tarkin & Stormtrooper (2007 TAC Comic Pack #03) - repaint of Commtech in comic style 2 -Paint was an interesting variation, but not much to brag about.
14. Lando Calrissian & Stormtrooper (2007 TAC Wal-Mart Exclusive Comic Pack) - VOTC repaint in comic style 3
15. Stormtrooper (2007 TAC Capture of Tantive IV Battle Pack) - clean version of Evolutions Sandtrooper without pauldron 4 -This would be my pick for the definitive stormtrooper. No RH, no loose chest joint, and a little better stance.
16. Stormtrooper (2007 TAC The Battle of Endor Ultimate Battle Pack) - kitbash of TSC Sandtrooper & VOTC Stormtrooper 3
17. Stormtrooper Commander (2008 TAC GameStop Exclusive) - repaint of TAC #20 3
18. Darth Vader & Incinerator Troopers (2008 TAC TFU Commemorative Collection) - VOTC repaint 3
19. Emperor Palpatine & Shadow Troopers (2008 TAC TFU Commemorative Collection) - VOTC repaint 3

1. Stormtrooper (1978 Vintage) - 3
2. Stormtrooper (1995 POTF2) - 0
3. Crowd Control Stormtrooper (1996 POTF2 Deluxe) - 0
4. Stormtrooper with Battle Damage (1999 POTF2 Commtech) - 2
5. Stormtrooper (2002 Saga Troop Builder Set) - Commtech without blast damage - 2
6. McQuarrie Concept Stormtrooper (2003 Saga #34) - Fan's Choice #4 - 0
7. Stormtrooper (2003 Saga Imperial Forces Battle Pack) - kitbash of POTJ and Commtech - 0
8. Stormtrooper (2004 VOTC) - 3 - the best Stormtrooper base so far, but this particular version had issues with plastic quality and discoloration.
9. 501st Stormtrooper (2006 TSC Comic-Con Exclusive) - VOTC repaint with banner and stand -0 - The Stormtroopers in the Star Wars films were white, thus any EU or Prequel inspired color schemes are pointless to me.
10. Shadow Stormtrooper (2006 TSC StarWarsShop Exclusive) - black repaint of VOTC Stormtrooper with silver stand - 0
11. Concept Stormtrooper (McQuarrie Signature Series) (2007 30th Anniversary #09) - repaint of Saga 2003 figure - 0
12. Stormtrooper (2007 30th Anniversary #20) - retooled VOTC with removable helmet - 1 - Actually a step backwards, since the removable helmet was so poorly made. Also, loses a point for the Jango head.
13. Governor Tarkin & Stormtrooper (2007 TAC Comic Pack #03) - repaint of Commtech in comic style - 0
14. Lando Calrissian & Stormtrooper (2007 TAC Wal-Mart Exclusive Comic Pack) - VOTC repaint in comic style - 0
15. Stormtrooper (2007 TAC Capture of Tantive IV Battle Pack) - clean version of Evolutions Sandtrooper without pauldron - 2
16. Stormtrooper (2007 TAC The Battle of Endor Ultimate Battle Pack) - kitbash of TSC Sandtrooper & VOTC Stormtrooper - 0 - wasn't this the grass stained version?
17. Stormtrooper Commander (2008 TAC GameStop Exclusive) - repaint of TAC #20 - 0
18. Darth Vader & Incinerator Troopers (2008 TAC TFU Commemorative Collection) - VOTC repaint - 0
19. Emperor Palpatine & Shadow Troopers (2008 TAC TFU Commemorative Collection) - VOTC repaint - 0

I don't consider any of the standard release Stormtroopers to be great figures. I actually use the clean Saga Legends Sandtroopers for standard Stormtroopers. It's basically the VOTC body made with better quality materials. Just remove all the accessories and Superglue that little Oreo-can onto the back of their belt and they're nearly perfect (you just have to overlook the giant hole in their back). :)

Stormtrooper (1978 Vintage) - 2 - Looks a little out of place amongst the modern figures, but he is neutral and could blend in with a group.
Stormtrooper (1995 POTF2) - 1 - A bit too big and a non-neutral pose, but he could still be useful as an army builder somewhere.
Crowd Control Stormtrooper (1996 POTF2 Deluxe) - 1 - Ditto the basic figure comment.
Stormtrooper with Battle Damage (1999 POTF2 Commtech) - 2 - A nice, fairly neutral figure, and had pretty articulation for it's time.
Stormtrooper (2002 Saga Troop Builder Set) - Commtech without blast damage - 2 - Clean version of Commtech, not really any better.
McQuarrie Concept Stormtrooper (2003 Saga #34) - Fan's Choice #4 - 3 - I like the concept figures, and this is pretty decent.
Stormtrooper (2003 Saga Imperial Forces Battle Pack) - kitbash of POTJ and Commtech - 2 - Either this one or the Vader case pack in kind of got its legs splayed out a bit, perhaps from using both pegs on a figure stand. I'll still give it a 2 though.
Stormtrooper (2004 VOTC) - 4 - A great figure. My only complaint is shallow peg holes, but he stands pretty well on his own. It seems the repacks/repaints of this one have fixed this problem.
501st Stormtrooper (2006 TSC Comic-Con Exclusive) - VOTC repaint with banner and stand - 4 - I just opened the extra I had of this. The peg hole is in the middle of the foot and actually works, so in that sense, this is a better figure than the VOTC.
Shadow Stormtrooper (2006 TSC StarWarsShop Exclusive) - black repaint of VOTC Stormtrooper with silver stand - 4 - This has the same feet as the 501st. I like the way this one looks, and I like the silver stand. I had this open before I had an extra VOTC to open, so it was the first time I experienced this mold.
Concept Stormtrooper (McQuarrie Signature Series) (2007 30th Anniversary #09) - repaint of Saga 2003 figure - 3 - A repaint that isn't really better or worse in my opinion.
Stormtrooper (2007 30th Anniversary #20) - retooled VOTC with removable helmet - 3 - I felt this was a step back. The helmet, and especially the torso, are too loose. The hole in the torso joint is exposed too easily.
Governor Tarkin & Stormtrooper (2007 TAC Comic Pack #03) - repaint of Commtech in comic style - 2 - They went back to the inferior Commtech mold, but looks okay in the comic color scheme.
Lando Calrissian & Stormtrooper (2007 TAC Wal-Mart Exclusive Comic Pack) - VOTC repaint in comic style - 3 - A better mold on this one, and I like the way it is colored.
Stormtrooper (2007 TAC Capture of Tantive IV Battle Pack) - clean version of Evolutions Sandtrooper without pauldron - 4 - Given the unusable peg holes of the VOTC, I think this version is now my favorite.
Stormtrooper (2007 TAC The Battle of Endor Ultimate Battle Pack) - kitbash of TSC Sandtrooper & VOTC Stormtrooper - 3 - Another decent sculpt repainted.
Stormtrooper Commander (2008 TAC GameStop Exclusive) - repaint of TAC #20 - 2 - Not really an essential EU figure, but then I haven't played the game. Also, it uses the TAC mold which I don't like as much. I just got a couple of the re-release of this figure today, but haven't opened one yet.
Darth Vader & Incinerator Troopers (2008 TAC TFU Commemorative Collection) - VOTC repaint - 3 - A better mold than the Commander, so I'll give it another point.
Emperor Palpatine & Shadow Troopers (2008 TAC TFU Commemorative Collection) - VOTC repaint - 3 - Ditto what I said for the Incinerator Troopers, though these don't look as good.

In a bit I'll post the next figure - Boba Fett.

Mad Slanted Powers
08-02-2009, 06:46 PM
Okay, here are the Boba Fett figures. Let me know if I've missed anything or have anything wrong. I did remember the Vintage figure this time. Once again, rate only the numbered figures, and use the following scale:

0 - Not worth getting
1 - Not very good, but has some unique or redeeming value to it
2 - A decent figure, but could be or has been done better
3 - A very good figure that is a fine choice if you just want one of this character
4 - One of the better figures of all time

And here are the figures. I went ahead and included Young Boba, since we only have one of him.

Boba Fett
1. Boba Fett (1979 Vintage) (http://www.rebelscum.com/VINtBobafett.asp) - 3 - One of the best Vintage figs
2. Boba Fett (1995 POTF2) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2bobafett.asp) - 0 - Ugly bulky rubbish - one of the worst figures ever IMO.
3. Boba Fett with Wing-Blast Rocketpack and Overhead Cannon (1996 POTF2 Deluxe) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2dlxboba.asp) - 0 - Slight improvement on POTF2, but not much.
4. Boba Fett vs. IG-88 (1996 Shadows of the Empire Comic Pack) (http://www.rebelscum.com/soteKboba-ig88.asp) - 0 - A dreadful 2 pack all round.
5. Boba Fett (2000 POTJ 300th Figure Special Edition) (http://www.rebelscum.com/potjbobafett.asp) - 0 - Ok, but utterly pointless getting this fig now.
6. Boba Fett (The Pit of Carkoon) (2003 Saga #08) (http://www.rebelscum.com/sw0308bobafettpoc.asp) - two color variations released - 2 - The first modern Boba Fett I thought was any good.
7. Boba Fett (2003 Convention Exclusive) (http://www.rebelscum.com/sw03silverbobafett.asp) - silver figure based on POTJ 300th figure - 0 - Boring pointless silver junk.
8. Boba Fett (2004 VOTC) (http://www.rebelscum.com/OTC-Vboba.asp) - 4 - No need to redo him after this . . . but hey, wait a minute . .
9. Boba Fett (Battle of Carkoon) (2006 Saga Collection #006) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TSC006bobafett.asp) - kitbash of 2003 Saga and VOTC - 1 - Lets take a step back in time . . .
10. Concept Boba Fett (McQuarrie Signature Series) (2007 30th Anniversary #15) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TAC15McFett.asp) - 0 - Easily the worst of the concepts. The front panel on mine falls off all the time . . Grrrr
11. Boba Fett (Animated Debut) (2007 30th Anniversary #24) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TAC24bobaanimated.asp) - based on VOTC - 4 - Great figure for what it is.
12. Boba Fett (2007 TAC Wal-Mart Exclusive Comic Pack) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TACcomicpacksWMBFRA7.asp) - VOTC repaint - 2 - Ok for an EU fig
13. Boba Fett (2008 TAC The Fett Legacy Evolutions) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TACevoFettLegacy.asp) - 1 - Really not liking this figure, don't need the removable helmet thanks!

Young Boba
14. Boba Fett (Kamino Escape) (2002 Saga #07) (http://www.rebelscum.com/sagabobafettkaminoescape.asp) - 2 - Sorry, but I think this is a really boring figure, not into figures of the kids in the films at all.

1. Boba Fett (1979 Vintage) (http://www.rebelscum.com/VINtBobafett.asp) - 2 - an iconic vintage figure, though I always thought the headsculpt was pretty weak, even for the time.
2. Boba Fett (1995 POTF2) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2bobafett.asp) - 1 - one of the better POTF2 figures, the detail really impressed me, after being used to the vintage, but it's obviously seriously dated now.
3. Boba Fett with Wing-Blast Rocketpack and Overhead Cannon (1996 POTF2 Deluxe) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2dlxboba.asp) - 0
4. Boba Fett vs. IG-88 (1996 Shadows of the Empire Comic Pack) (http://www.rebelscum.com/soteKboba-ig88.asp) - 1
5. Boba Fett (2000 POTJ 300th Figure Special Edition) (http://www.rebelscum.com/potjbobafett.asp) - 2 - a nice upgrade, but still lacking the articulation of modern figures.
6. Boba Fett (The Pit of Carkoon) (2003 Saga #08) (http://www.rebelscum.com/sw0308bobafettpoc.asp) - 2 - a good display piece, but the floppy-arm action feature and only one knee joint keep this from getting a higher score.
7. Boba Fett (2003 Convention Exclusive) (http://www.rebelscum.com/sw03silverbobafett.asp) - 0
8. Boba Fett (2004 VOTC) (http://www.rebelscum.com/OTC-Vboba.asp) - 4 - it has its faults (difficulty keeping on the jetpack, and mine has a loose rangefinder) but this is the best ROTJ Fett out there.
9. Boba Fett (Battle of Carkoon) (2006 Saga Collection #006) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TSC006bobafett.asp) - 3 - ok, the legs are an improvement, but it still has floppy arms. Doesn't really deserve a 3, but it's better than the POTJ version.
10. Concept Boba Fett (McQuarrie Signature Series) (2007 30th Anniversary #15) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TAC15McFett.asp) - 3 - a good figure, but kind of boring looking. I'm sure that part of BF's appeal is his distinctive colour scheme, so an all-white Fett just doesn't seem right.
11. Boba Fett (Animated Debut) (2007 30th Anniversary #24) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TAC24bobaanimated.asp) - 3 - another good figure that displays well with my other multi-coloured Mandalorians, but it doesn't really work as a representation of the animated character.
12. Boba Fett (2007 TAC Wal-Mart Exclusive Comic Pack) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TACcomicpacksWMBFRA7.asp) - 2 - doesn't do anything for me, but as it's based on VOTC I can't give it less than a 2.
13. Boba Fett (2008 TAC The Fett Legacy Evolutions) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TACevoFettLegacy.asp) - 4 - the best ESB Boba. The missing chest emblem is a minor annoyance, but not really a big issue for me - certainly not enough to buy the set again. Also, I like removable helmets, so in that respect this is even better than VOTC.

Young Boba
14. Boba Fett (Kamino Escape) (2002 Saga #07) (http://www.rebelscum.com/sagabobafettkaminoescape.asp) - 2 - I really didn't like seeing Boba as a little kid, it took away too much of the character's enigma. But as a figure this is perfectly adequate, and I never need to see it remade. Good accessories help it as well.

Boba Fett (1979 Vintage) - 2 - A pretty nice looking figure, and mine is still in pretty good condition compared to many of my other vintage figures. Still looks pretty shiny. However, he looks more like an animated version. Probably why they didn't need to repaint him when they stuck him in the Droids line.
Boba Fett (1995 POTF2) - 1 - This one and the comic pack one are a bit bulky and not totally neutrally posed.
Boba Fett with Wing-Blast Rocketpack and Overhead Cannon (1996 POTF2 Deluxe) - 2 - The contraption he comes with is kind of riduculous, but the figure looks better as it is slimmed down from regular POTF2 proportions.
Boba Fett vs. IG-88 (1996 Shadows of the Empire Comic Pack) - 1 - Until POTJ, this was the only way to get IG-88 in the modern line.
Boba Fett (2000 POTJ 300th Figure Special Edition) - 2 - A nice display piece. Mine is still in the package, but I do have the one open from the Bounty Hunter pack. Looks really good, but limited articulation keeps it from getting a higher score.
Boba Fett (The Pit of Carkoon) (2003 Saga #08) - two color variations released - 1 - This is actually less neutral than the POTF2 version. The increased articulation doesn't add as much as it should with the floppy action feature arms.
Boba Fett (2003 Convention Exclusive) - silver figure based on POTJ 300th figure - 0 - I've not much use for silver figures.
Boba Fett (2004 VOTC) - 4 - My only complaint is the shallow peg holes that I can't use. He stand pretty well on his own.
Boba Fett (Battle of Carkoon) (2006 Saga Collection #006) - kitbash of 2003 Saga and VOTC - 2 - An improvement over the original Carkoon figure, but still has the floppy arms.
Concept Boba Fett (McQuarrie Signature Series) (2007 30th Anniversary #15) - 4 - I still have the band a round the middle of mine, so I haven't had trouble with the hatch coming open. I just took it off for a moment, and had trouble getting the thing open without taking the figure apart at the torso. A pretty nice figure with great articulation. The second helmet is a nice bonus too.
Boba Fett (Animated Debut) (2007 30th Anniversary #24) - based on VOTC - 3 - I guess it is essentially the VOTC figure, but it doesn't feel as essential.
Boba Fett (2007 TAC Wal-Mart Exclusive Comic Pack) - VOTC repaint - 3 - Once again, the same great VOTC figure, but not as essential to me, as I never read the Marvel comics. With the colors being different, there are other EU figures in Fett armor that look as much like Boba Fett as this one. I'll keep it at a 3 though, because you get a different looking RA-7 droid with it.
Boba Fett (2008 TAC The Fett Legacy Evolutions) - 4 - Yet another great figure.

Boba Fett (Kamino Escape) (2002 Saga #07) - 2 - I'd probably give it a 1, but unlike many of the line, he doesn't have an action feature. He also has plenty of accessories, and while he is not neutrally posed, it's not too extreme.

On to the next character. Lando Calrissian. You can still submit your rankings for Boba Fett or any other character we have covered so far.

Since there aren't very man Lando figures, I'll include all versions of him here. Rank the figures that are numbered with using the following scale:

0 - Not worth getting
1 - Not very good, but has some unique or redeeming value to it
2 - A decent figure, but could be or has been done better
3 - A very good figure that is a fine choice if you just want one of this character
4 - One of the better figures of all time

I was actually looking forward to a simple poll with few choices so I wouldn't have to think too hard to participate. But ALL the Landos? Sigh. Maybe I'll get to it.

Oh, so you're going in POTF2 release order? That's why Jawas, Tuskens, and Death Star Troopers haven't been rated yet.

In terms of how many figures we are covering, we've been at this for four months and have only covered 11 characters. I've tried to break the larger ones like Vader and R2 down to smaller groups. This group of Landos is about the same size as other rounds we have done. Of course, if you want to just vote on the ESB Lando's now, you can do the other ones later when you have time. It will probably be next Sunday before I move on to X-Wing Luke.

BTW: the order I'd suggested (and this hardly matters to me as I only participate in this thread a little anyway due to time constraints) is in Vintage Order, which would mean we'd cover all the 12 backs and be rating Tuskens, Jawas, and Death Star Troopers before Boba Fett and Lando.

I see what you did though: you used the 1995 releases, and are now going to 1996, but you also covered all the figures from the particular movie - like Luke Yavin and Luke Stormtrooper. However, I guess you are saving Luke X-wing (also ANH) for 1996 when the first pilot Luke (Snowspeeder) was released?

However, I guess you are saving Luke X-wing (also ANH) for 1996 when the first pilot Luke (Snowspeeder) was released?Something like that. After ANH Han, I asked if we should move onto Luke or do all the Han figures first. In the end, I decided to just do the Stormtrooper disguise and then move on. With Luke, I just did the farmboy ANH version, but then it was suggested I do the rest of the ANH ones since we had done Han Stormtrooper and had added Yavin Leia to the Leia list. I skipped X-Wing Luke at the time since technically, the first release was the ESB version. I also was thinking of maybe including other pilots, but think I will pass on doing that, at least until we get to Biggs.

I thought about doing just the ESB Landos, but I had gotten used to having bigger lists. So, i figured it wouldn't be a problem to get them all done together. Most of the big lists should be done for a while. Yoda and Sandtrooper will be pretty big though. The rest of POTF2 shouldn't be too bad. I fear the day when we get to ROTS and have all the clones. Even all the Obi-Wans and Anakins will be hard enough to sort through.

*I just have to interupt and ask, why don't vintage figures score higher? I think many of our forumites either weren't born before 1980 or don't get the value of the first SW figures....basically I'm saying that of course a 2009 Mustang is a better car than the Model T, but they're apples and oranges so the standards have to be different for vintage toys and modern both in quality of the figure and its importance as a toy.

For me, I'm thinking of terms of what is the best representation of the character, as well as the quality of the figure and the features/accessories it has. Most of the vintage figures look out of place with the modern figures (as do most of the POTF2 figures). My idea for this whole thing was to create a reference for people who may be new to the hobby. This will allow them to choose the best versions of the character (or what version has the features they want).

I've been grading figs more or less along those lines as well. I usually give the vintage figs an honorary score because usually it's an iconic figure and it was a first attempt. Now, I was born in '84 so don't ask why anything other than the B-Wing pilot and Endor trooper (the only "vintage" figures I ever owned) get sentimental points but there ya go. As for the rest, I imagine a diorama in my head and basically try to figure which figure would look best. Notable advances in articulation or sculpt are usually good for some points here or there but the winners are always have the best articulation and sharpest sculpt, usually the most recent. It's the same reason I trash the Marvel comic paint versions of figures. With a few exceptions they look terrible in dioramas with other figures and so I score them 0s usually.

I collect vintage and modern, and love them both equally. But as MSP says, this survey is to establish the best version of each character, and whilst vintage hold way more nostalgic affection for me, they generally don't compare in terms of sculpt, detail, articulation or accessories, so I have to consider all that when rating them. However, there will be a character coming soon where the vintage will get a perfect score from me, as no modern version has ever come close. Any guesses? ;)

Sebillba: is it Master Yoda? Modern figures have all had one problem or another. The Vintage could be so easily toppled, but Hasbro has not done it yet!

I too look to dioramas and see what fits in the best. But in the case of the modern line, I generally don't want to update and I am nostalgic for figures like Steroid Luke (1995) and Monkey Leia (1995) because they brought Star Wars figure collecting back.

I sold my complete vintage collection (most of it) a while back and used the money to fund my modern army building / collecting etc.

I would re-buy loose-but-mint vintage and army-build them too, but for the cost involved. And I'd get the playsets all over again.

I like Galactic Heroes nowadays for that cuteness factor, though I'm not a Galactic Heroes completist.

Lando Calrissian

ESB Lando
Lando Calrissian (1980 Vintage) (http://www.rebelscum.com/VINtLando.asp) – 3 – This was one of my favourite figures when I was a kid, think I loved the colours.
Lando Calrissian (1995 POTF2) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2lando.asp) – 0 – What a pile of rubbish. Hate the cape.
Lando Calrissian (Bespin Escape) (2001 POTJ) (http://www.rebelscum.com/potjlandobespin.asp) – 2 – I was pretty happy with this one till the VOTC came out.
Lando Calrissian (2004 VOTC) (http://www.rebelscum.com/OTC-Vlando.asp) – 4 – Great fig
Lando Calrissian (2008 TAC Wal-Mart Exclusive Comic Pack) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TACcomicpacksWMLCST.asp) - repaint of VOTC – 2 – boring EU repaint.

Lando Calrissian (Smuggler Outfit) (2007 30th Anniversary Collection #39) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TAC39Lando.asp) – 4 – I am happy to have this fig

ROTJ Skiff Guard Disguise
Lando Calrissian (Skiff Guard Disguise) (1983 Vintage) (http://www.rebelscum.com/VINtLandoskiff.asp) – 1 – I remember these seriously peg warming in about 1983 never really liked this fig
Lando Calrissian (as skiff guard) (1997 POTF2) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2landoskiff.asp) – 0 – Don’t buy this kids, it sucks
Lando Calrissian (Jabba's Sail Barge) (2004 Saga #07) (http://www.rebelscum.com/sw0407landoskiff.asp) – 3 – Good fig, but needs a SA update.

ROTJ General
Lando Calrissian (General Pilot) (1985 POTF Vintage) (http://www.rebelscum.com/VINtLandogeneral.asp) – 2 – One of the cooler vintage figs, but inaccurate.
Lando Calrissian (general's gear) (1998 POTF2 Freeze Frame) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2landogeneral.asp) – 1 – Not quite as bad at the other POTF2 Landos.
Lando Calrissian (Death Star Attack) (2004 Saga #21) (http://www.rebelscum.com/sw0421landogeneral.asp) – 3 – Another requiring SA update.

I collected every vintage figure when I was a kid & still have them now. While I can't give any vintage fig a perfect 4 score some of them may get a 3 to reflect the love I had for them when I was a kid.

The POTF2 line didn't get me back into collecting at all. I was interested to see figures being released that hadn't been done before, but I thought most of the line were ugly overstuffed rubbish and have avoided them ever since. Needless to say almost every POTF2 figure will get a big zero from me as they simply do not hold up to modern day figs in any way.

It wasn't until the Episode 1 figs were released that I started collecting again, and I find figures from this era & beyond harder to rate.

I am kinda biased towards figure I find boring (clones!!!) or to those I didn't feel the need to buy, and when the time comes lots of these will score very poorly from me as will EU repaints (Yawn)

You got it! One of my all-time favourite figures, even the soft goods look great. I would love to see a modern equivalent, but so far they've all fallen short (no pun intended!).

Boba Fett
Boba Fett (1979 Vintage) – 1 – This fig has some advantages over the POTF2 namely his “figure” but the paint is way off.
Boba Fett (1995 POTF2) – 0 – Looking back this was a really well painted figure with great detail but there’s still no reason to display him now.
Boba Fett with Wing-Blast Rocketpack and Overhead Cannon (1996 POTF2 Deluxe) – 0 – More or less the same figure as above just with a barge on his back.
Boba Fett vs. IG-88 (1996 Shadows of the Empire Comic Pack) – 0 – Hasbro’s first foray into comic packs, I was way more excited about getting IG-88 than another Boba.
Boba Fett (2000 POTJ 300th Figure Special Edition) – 2 – A great statue I loved this figure when it was new but it’s very one dimensional.
Boba Fett (The Pit of Carkoon) (2003 Saga #08) – 0 – Ack! This figure is terrible, far too clean, the joints suck, and the colors are weird on both. I am still beside myself that they chose this figure for the Jodo Cast figure.
Boba Fett (2003 Convention Exclusive) – 0 – Silver figs must die.
Boba Fett (2004 VOTC) – 4 – The definitive ROTJ Fett.
Boba Fett (Battle of Carkoon) (2006 Saga Collection #006) – 2 – Gets a 2 for its use of VOTC parts but really it just doesn’t stack up.
Concept Boba Fett (McQuarrie Signature Series) (2007 30th Anniversary #15) – 4 – A great figure, just as good as any of the other concept figs. The interchangeable heads are awesome!
Boba Fett (Animated Debut) (2007 30th Anniversary #24) – 3 – A great sculpt with a good paint job. As some one who has never seen the Holiday Special or an episode of Droids this one doesn’t mean too much to me.
Boba Fett (2007 TAC Wal-Mart Exclusive Comic Pack) – 2 – I found the droid interesting but the Fett is pretty worthless.
Boba Fett (2008 TAC The Fett Legacy Evolutions) – 4 – It’s a four because on some they got the paint right with the tampo and it’s the definitive ESB Fett. Mine lacks that detail however and so I am eagerly waiting a rerelease so I can get one that’s got the proper paint ap.

Young Boba
Boba Fett (Kamino Escape) (2002 Saga #07) – 2 – It’s a fine figure but I’d love to see one with a better head sculpt.

I noticed an article on Rebelscum about the possibility of vintage cardback styles returning (for the basic collection I guess).

I think what we're doing here could be done for this series, and have the fans vote which is the best representation of each character from figures made so far, and issue that one on the card. Like how C-3PO Ewok Diety or Legacy Ben Kenobi have triumphed, these would be re-issued and carded vintage style.

In the cases like Vader or C-3PO removeable limbs, the next edition of this character could be on the appropriate movie card. Like an RH Vader would be on a Jedi card.

The same could be done for Prequel characters (in that style).

Perhaps it would move the line off the pegs by way of carded completists again?

Lando Calrissian

ESB Lando
1. Lando Calrissian (1980 Vintage) (http://www.rebelscum.com/VINtLando.asp) - 2
2. Lando Calrissian (1995 POTF2) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2lando.asp) - 0
3. Lando Calrissian (Bespin Escape) (2001 POTJ) (http://www.rebelscum.com/potjlandobespin.asp) - 1 - a big improvement on POTF2, but the arms are too pre-posed for holding his gun and nothing else. Also, the collar on his cape never sits right.
4. Lando Calrissian (2004 VOTC) (http://www.rebelscum.com/OTC-Vlando.asp) - 3 - the swivel elbows keep it from getting a '4', but this figure is good enough for me.
5. Lando Calrissian (2008 TAC Wal-Mart Exclusive Comic Pack) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TACcomicpacksWMLCST.asp) - 2 - I didn't get this, but I quite like the colours.

6. Lando Calrissian (Smuggler Outfit) (2007 30th Anniversary Collection #39) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TAC39Lando.asp) - 3 - same comments as VOTC.

ROTJ Skiff Guard Disguise
7. Lando Calrissian (Skiff Guard Disguise) (1983 Vintage) (http://www.rebelscum.com/VINtLandoskiff.asp) - 3 - for the time, the removable helmet was very well done.
8. Lando Calrissian (as skiff guard) (1997 POTF2) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2landoskiff.asp) - 1 - not too bad for POTF2
9. Lando Calrissian (Jabba's Sail Barge) (2004 Saga #07) (http://www.rebelscum.com/sw0407landoskiff.asp) - 3 - lacks modern articulation, but looks fine, and I don't need it updated.

ROTJ General
10. Lando Calrissian (General Pilot) (1985 POTF Vintage) (http://www.rebelscum.com/VINtLandogeneral.asp) - 2
11. Lando Calrissian (general's gear) (1998 POTF2 Freeze Frame) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2landogeneral.asp) - 0
12. Lando Calrissian (Death Star Attack) (2004 Saga #21) (http://www.rebelscum.com/sw0421landogeneral.asp) - 2 - again this is perfectly adequate for me, but I'm not keen on the inconsistent articulation - only one elbow, what's that all about?

Lando Calrissian (1980 Vintage) - 1 - Nice basic figure, but the vinyl cape doesn't capture Lando's look. The figure is a bit too dark as well. One of the last vintage figures that I got, as I only got 5 ESB figures back when I was a kid.
Lando Calrissian (1995 POTF2) - 0 - Typical puffed up POTF2 figure.
Lando Calrissian (Bespin Escape) (2001 POTJ) - 2 - Nice looking figure, but a fixed pose keeps the score down.
Lando Calrissian (2004 VOTC) - 3 - Could be better, and I'm also annoyed by the shallow peg holes.
Lando Calrissian (2008 TAC Wal-Mart Exclusive Comic Pack) - repaint of VOTC - 3 - A nice looking comic repaint. I particularly like how they put something solid, yet flexible, in the base in the cape that allows you to pose the cape how you want.

Lando Calrissian (Smuggler Outfit) (2007 30th Anniversary Collection #39) - 3 - Another decent figure, but has similar problems as the VOTC, including the shallow peg holes. Looks like I got some paint chipped off on the left thigh of my figure.

Lando Calrissian (Skiff Guard Disguise) (1983 Vintage) - 2 - Pretty good for a vintage figure. If it had modern articulation it would fit well with the new figures I think.
Lando Calrissian (as skiff guard) (1997 POTF2) - 1 - Better than the other POTF2 Landos.
Lando Calrissian (Jabba's Sail Barge) (2004 Saga #07) - 3 - A very nice figure. A bit more articulation and this could be a 4.

Lando Calrissian (General Pilot) (1985 POTF Vintage) - 1 - Not as good as the vintage skiff guard Lando.
Lando Calrissian (general's gear) (1998 POTF2 Freeze Frame) - 0 - Terrible, wide-stanced, pumped up POTF2 figure.
Lando Calrissian (Death Star Attack) (2004 Saga #21) - 3 - Big improvement over the POTF2 version, but not as good as the Saga Lando Skiff Guard. I'd prefer a soft goods cape, but this one looks okay. I also just noticed this figure looks a bit like Borat.

Up next will be Luke Skywalker X-Wing/Snowspeeder Pilot. I'm not certain if I should consider all of the numbered ones to be distinct. Some are just repaints, and I'm not sure if they are distinct enough to be considered separately. I'll leave it as is for now and see if the ratings show anything.

So, rank the figures that are numbered using the following scale:

0 - Not worth getting
1 - Not very good, but has some unique or redeeming value to it
2 - A decent figure, but could be or has been done better
3 - A very good figure that is a fine choice if you just want one of this character
4 - One of the better figures of all time

I always score vintage high...they were great for their time and it's not fair to compare them with today's figures...it's apples and oranges.

Good catch on my mistake on VTSC and POTF2! I don't know how I got those scores swapped?

Luke Skywalker - X-Wing/Snowspeeder Pilot
1. Luke Skywalker (X-Wing Pilot) (1978 Vintage) (http://www.rebelscum.com/VINtLukexwing.asp) - 1 - I love vintage, but this was never one of my favourites - it probably started my dislike of painted faces, and the goggles always looked more like hair to me.
2. Luke Skywalker (X-Wing Pilot) (1995 POTF2) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2lukexwing.asp) - 0
3. Luke Skywalker (X-Wing Pilot) (2001 POTJ) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTJlukexwing.asp) - 2 - I thought this was a huge improvement, especially with the removable helmet. I know a lot of people dislike the buck teeth, but Luke's teeth are quite prominent (see the ESB "Nooooooooo!!!!" scene - they'd make Jaxxon jealous!).
4. Luke Skywalker (Snowspeeder Pilot) (2002 POTJ Snowspeeder) (http://www.rebelscum.com/potjsnowspeeder.asp) - 0
5. Luke Skywalker (X-Wing PIlot) (2004 OTC #05) (http://www.rebelscum.com/OTC05lukexwing.asp) - POTJ repaint - 2 - I can't tell much difference (slightly darker hair and unpainted teeth?) so I'll score it the same.
6. Luke Skywalker (X-Wing Pilot) (2006 VTSC) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TSC-Vlukexwing.asp) - 4 - pretty much the perfect version as far as I'm concerned.
7. Luke Skywalker (2007 TAC The Battle of Hoth Ultimate Battle Pack) (http://www.rebelscum.com/tacUBPhoth.asp) - VOTC head, repaint of Zev Senesca's body - 2 - I would've preferred it left in the original paint scheme, and less dirty, so I'm glad we're getting a much improved version soon.
8. Luke Skywalker & R2-D2 (2008 TLC Droid Factory #6) (http://www.rebelscum.com/tlcDF6.asp) - repaint of VOTC - 4 - I'm not sure if this is more or less accurate than the first version, but I slightly prefer it.
9. Luke Skywalker (X-Wing Pilot) (2009 TLC SDCC Exclusive) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TLCSDCC09Luke.asp) - based on VOTC, smiling, with ladder - 3 - the head is a bit odd, but I guess it's quite nice if you want to recreate the victory celebration scene.

I always score vintage high...they were great for their time and it's not fair to compare them with today's figures...it's apples and oranges.By that logic, then I shouldn't even have them in this thread. The fact that it isn't fair to compare them to today's figure is why I don't think most of them should be rated very high. If you were going to recommend one X-Wing Luke that people should get, I don't think the vintage one would be a good representation.

Exactly.

Well, that would be a problem, but only because you are not comparing the right figures. Today's line is something different from the Kenner vintage.

If you were going to recommend one X-Wing Luke that people should get, I don't think the vintage one would be a good representation.

I disagree because that depends on taste. If I had the money to spend on one or the other...I'd throw down all my money on getting mint vintage figures (and all ships and playsets). The vintage X-Wing Luke is an excellent figure.

Your thread is a COLLECTING thread, not a what-figure-is-the-best-representation (I assume you mean "likeness"?) character study....which, would be an excellent thread!

If this is a collecting thread, how could anyone in their right mind rate vintage figures so low?

Well, that would be a problem, but only because you are not comparing the right figures. Today's line is something different from the Kenner vintage.I originally wasn't going to include vintage figures, but did so at the request of others. Every time I forgot to put one in there, I was reminded of it.

Your thread is a COLLECTING thread, not a what-figure-is-the-best-representation (I assume you mean "likeness"?) character study....which, would be an excellent thread!

If this is a collecting thread, how could anyone in their right mind rate vintage figures so low?Actually, it is supposed to be "what-figure-is-the-best-representation" thread. That is why it is "A Character by Character Study." As I've said several times before, I would hope that this would end up being a guide to help new collectors figure out which would be the best figures to get. With all of the many versions of the core characters out there, it would be hard for a newbie to figure out what versions exist. They may not want to buy every version, or have the resources to do so if they did. So, this is to help them determine which would be the best versions to get. That way, a new collector could more easily put together a collection of all of the figures they want.

Also, if you look at the descriptions for my rating scale, they are as follows:

0 - Not worth getting
1 - Not very good, but has some unique or redeeming value to it
2 - A decent figure, but could be or has been done better
3 - A very good figure that is a fine choice if you just want one of this character
4 - One of the better figures of all time

So, to me, most vintage figures wouldn't rate above a 2. Perhaps most deserve at least a 1 because the nostalgia factor could be the redeeming value to it. There is also some beauty in the simplicity - no action features or extreme poses, and they can fit in vehicles nicely. However, while many may be decent figures, most can or have been done better. That is what would keep most figures at a 2.

I do realize, though, that many people really like the vintage figures, and feel that some of them haven't been topped in the modern line. Something like the Royal Guard or Yoda might fit that description.

If it's representation, then I agree with you, the more recent figs are superior. It's a shame people were complaining about you leaving out vintage figures if they're only going to rate them at a 2 or 1...or maybe 0 because most of them look nothing like the film character...well, maybe some.

I hate to vote low on vintage but have no issue blasting horrible modern figures...I almost hate to blast the first POTF figures but some of them are really terrible and were worse quality than the Kenner line!

If vintage keep on these lists, I'll always rate them high...at least higher than most of the POTF...I probably will stop rating them higher than many of the superior recent figs (Evolutions Vader is hands down better than vintage, but vintage beats the rest on principle)...but I for one would NOT complain if you kept them off and cannot understand why people gave you a hard time for leaving them off in the past....

I am happy for the vintage figures to be included as there are still a few instances where there is no modern equivilent.
Also, as mentioned above there are actually a couple of figures which, for many, have yet to be bettered by the modern line (For me these include Royal Guard, 8D8, Yak Face, Wicket, Ackbar & Nien Numb)

Luke Skywalker (X-Wing Pilot) (1978 Vintage) - 1 - As a Luke figure, I'd give it a zero, but as a generic X-Wing pilot it works pretty well.
Luke Skywalker (X-Wing Pilot) (1995 POTF2) - actually snowspeeder outfit - 1 - Looks more like Luke than the vintage, but still no removable helmet, and of course there is the pumped up POTF2 look. Still, it could be used as an extra rebel pilot.
Luke Skywalker (X-Wing Pilot) (2001 POTJ) - 2 - The POTF2 one was too muscular, and this one is too skinny. He does have a removable helmet, but no other accessories. I'm almost inclined to just give it a 1, as it doesn't have any better articulation than previous figures.
Luke Skywalker (Snowspeeder Pilot) (2002 POTJ Snowspeeder) - 1 - A bit better than the carded version, but not enough to improve the rating.
Luke Skywalker (X-Wing Pilot) (2004 OTC #05) - POTJ repaint - 2 - Not much of a difference other than the buck teeth look appears to be gone.
Luke Skywalker (X-Wing Pilot) (2006 VTSC) - 3 - A great figure, but something about the joints doesn't seem quite right, and the peg holes are too shallow.
Luke Skywalker (2007 TAC The Battle of Hoth Ultimate Battle Pack) - VOTC head, repaint of Zev Senesca's body - 2 - This is better than POTJ but not as good as VTSC. The color of the pants doesn't match the color of the top. Perhaps I should give the VTSC a 4 or the POTJ a 1 so that the rating for this figure would make more sense.
Luke Skywalker & R2-D2 (2008 TLC Droid Factory #6) - repaint of VOTC - 3 - Not much difference from the original. A lighter suit and a silver strap instead of gray.
Luke Skywalker (X-Wing Pilot) (2009 TLC SDCC Exclusive) - based on VOTC, smiling, with ladder - 3 - Still a good figure, though scene specific with the smile. The ladder is a nice accessory.

Han Solo Hoth
1. Han Solo (Hoth Outfit) (1980 Vintage) (http://www.rebelscum.com/VINtHanhoth.asp) – 1 – Not one of my favourite vintage figs due to painted face.
2. Han Solo (Hoth Gear) (1996 POTF2) – 0 - POTF2, say no more!
3. Han Solo (1998 POTF2 Tauntaun) – 1 – Just for the Tauntaun.
4. Han Solo (Hoth Rescue) (2003 Saga #13) - blue and brown coat variations – 1 – Don’t like the action feature or the pose.
5. Han Solo (2006 TAC Episode V Commemorative Tin Collection) - snowy repaint of brown version of (2003 Saga #13) – 0 – No point getting this.
6. Han Solo (Hoth Outfit) (2007 VTAC) – 3 – Loses a point for hood being down.
7. Han Solo (2007 TAC The Battle of Hoth Ultimate Battle Pack) - VTAC blue coat repaint, no hat – 3 – Looks like he has ginger hair.
8. Han Solo & R-3PO (2008 TLC Droid Factory #3) - VTAC blue coat repaint with hood up – 4 – Best one of the bunch.
9. Han Solo (2008 TLC Hoth Recon Patrol Battle Pack) - repaint of 2008 Droid Factory – 4 – Looks almost the same as Droid Factory Han.

Han Solo (Hoth Outfit) (1980 Vintage) - 1 - A pretty good vintage figure
Han Solo (Hoth Gear) (1996 POTF2) - 0 - Don't like the pose, and it suffers from POTF2ism.
Han Solo (1998 POTF2 Tauntaun) - 1 - At least this one can ride the tauntaun, and he has the hood up.
Han Solo (Hoth Rescue) (2003 Saga #13) - blue and brown coat variations - 2 - Other than the tauntaun version, I think this is the only one that can sit on a tauntaun. It's also the only one with a lightsaber and a mask.
Han Solo (2006 TAC Episode V Commemorative Tin Collection) - repaint of brown version of 2003 Saga #13 - 2 - I prefer the blue coat version, but this has some snow dusting to give it something unique.
Han Solo (Hoth Outfit) (2007 VTAC) - 3 - A great figure. Would have preferred this was a blue coat, but it's the best hood down version we have.
Han Solo (2007 TAC The Battle of Hoth Ultimate Battle Pack) - VTAC blue coat repaint, no hat - 2 - Normally I prefer blue coat variations, but this one is a bit too blue, and his hair is a bit orangey. He also doesn't have the hat that the original VTAC figure had.
Han Solo & R-3PO (2008 TLC Droid Factory #3) - VTAC blue coat repaint with hood up - 4 - This is about the right color of blue. I'm tempted to not give it a 4, but I like it better than the TAC. If it had an alternate head for hood down, and could ride a tauntaun, that would be the ultimate Hoth Han. However, I'm happy enough to have three figures fulfill those roles.
Han Solo (2008 TLC Hoth Recon Patrol Battle Pack) - repaint of 2008 Droid Factory - 3 - As I've said, I like the blue coat better, so this one will not get the 4 that the Droid Factory one got.

1. Han Solo (Hoth Outfit) (1980 Vintage) (http://www.rebelscum.com/VINtHanhoth.asp) - 2- a classic figure, that will forever set in my mind that blue is the correct colour for his coat. I would've given a 3 if it wasn't for the painted face.
2. Han Solo (Hoth Gear) (1996 POTF2) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2hanhoth.asp) - 0
3. Han Solo (1998 POTF2 Tauntaun) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2beasthan2.asp) - 2 - he may have POTF2 proportions, but he looks fine on the tauntaun - this was an absolutely awesome set, and I still display it today. This is also the only hood-up Han with a flesh-molded face.
4. Han Solo (Hoth Rescue) (2003 Saga #13) (http://www.rebelscum.com/sw0313hansolohr.asp) - blue and brown coat variations - 1 - I only bought the blue version, I liked it at the time, but it's well outdated now. It gets a point for the accessories.
5. Han Solo (2006 TAC Episode V Commemorative Tin Collection) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TACtinepisodeiV.asp) - snowy repaint of brown version of (2003 Saga #13) - 1 - I was pleased the brown version was included in the tin, as it complemented my blue one.
6. Han Solo (Hoth Outfit) (2007 VTAC) (http://www.rebelscum.com/VTSCHan.asp) - 4 - an excellent figure. I like to have the brown and blue versions of both hood up and hood down, so I'll rate all these the same. The hat doesn't fit particularly well, but is ok as an extra accessory. Also, in the RS pic, it looks like he's got drag queen eyebrows, but I'm sure mine isn't like this.
7. Han Solo (2007 TAC The Battle of Hoth Ultimate Battle Pack) (http://www.rebelscum.com/tacUBPhoth.asp) - VTAC blue coat repaint, no hat - 4- the colours look a little like it should be in a comic pack, but this is still probably my overall favourite.
8. Han Solo & R-3PO (2008 TLC Droid Factory #3) (http://www.rebelscum.com/tlcDF3.asp) - VTAC blue coat repaint with hood up - 4- the hood up version is an essential alternative. I've given maximum score despite the painted face.
9. Han Solo (2008 TLC Hoth Recon Patrol Battle Pack) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TLCBPHothPatrol.asp) - repaint of 2008 Droid Factory - 4 - hardly any difference in colour, but it's still as good as the other version.

I was hoping to get one more Hoth Han vote before posting the results for that. Also, before I move onto Dagobah Luke, I am wondering if I should include

Luke Skywalker (2007 TAC Jedi Training on Dagobah Battle Pack) (http://www.rebelscum.com/tacBPjeditraining.asp) - 2002 Saga #29 repaint

or

Luke Skywalker (2008 TLC Jedi Training on Dagobah Battle Pack) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TLCBPJediTraining.asp) - 2002 Saga #29 repaint

since they are repaints of the Bespin Luke figure. Also, is there any difference between the Lukes in these two battle packs to vote on both of them?

Dagobah
1. Luke Skywalker (Dagobah Fatigues) (1996 POTF2) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2Lukedagobah.asp) - 1 - from the vintage days, I always considered Bespin Luke to be Dagobah Luke, so when this came out, I was pleasantly surprised. It's obviously very outdated by today's standards, but gets a point for being the first, and he looked great with Yoda on his back - arguably still the best modern OT Yoda figure, so if you want to display him in Luke's backpack, this is the Luke to use.
2. Luke Skywalker (Dagobah Training) (2004 OTC #01) (http://www.rebelscum.com/OTC01lukedagobah.asp) - 2 - this is an awesome figure, but I've marked it down because it's essentially a statue rather than an action figure. The interchangable parts are great, but I ended up buying two, so I could display him in both action poses, so I really consider it as two statue figures.
3. Luke Skywalker (Dagobah) (2006 TSC Luke Skywalker's X-Wing) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TSCxwing.asp) - 3 - this is my favourite Dagobah Luke. Not much articulation, but more posable than the OTC version, and is a good neutral figure. I don't usually buy vehicles, but I bought the x-wing just for this figure (and the swamp monster was a nice bonus).
4. Luke Skywalker (2007 TAC Jedi Training on Dagobah Battle Pack) (http://www.rebelscum.com/tacBPjeditraining.asp)- 2002 Saga #29 repaint - 2 - another good figure, and harks back to my vintage Dagobah Luke. But I never bought this set as it's just a slight repaint of Bespin Luke, which I already had.

Luke Skywalker (Dagobah Fatigues) (1996 POTF2) - 1 - Haven't opened this one, but the buff look works better on this figure since it is Luke in training.
Luke Skywalker (Dagobah Training) (2004 OTC #01) - 2 - A nice looking figure, and the two different heads and sets of arms allows for the two different looks. He looks good with Yoda on his back as well. Still, I think they could do this figure a lot better with more articulation.
Luke Skywalker (Dagobah) (2006 TSC Luke Skywalker's X-Wing) - 2 - In some ways this is better than the OTC because it has neutral arms, but it doesn't really look better.
Luke Skywalker (2007 TAC Jedi Training on Dagobah Battle Pack)- 2002 Saga #29 repaint - 2 - Better articulation than the previous two, but doesn't really represent the Dagobah training since it is a repaint of a Bespin Luke figure.

Well, I have the POTJ TIE Interceptor and Saga TIE Bomber, so I'll take a look at those tonight and see what they look like. I don't know about the KB exclusive though. Only the TIE Interceptor says "unique figure", so the others are probably repacks.

I took a look at the TIE Interceptor and the TIE Bomber and they appear to be the same figure. The pictures of the KB TIE Fighter looks to have the same figure as well, so I'll just consider them all the same figure.

1 Imperial TIE Fighter Pilot (1982 Vintage) (http://www.rebelscum.com/VINtTIEpilot.asp) 2 -Pretty good sculpt for the vintage days.
2 TIE Fighter Pilot (1996 POTF2) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2tiepilot.asp) 2 -One of the few POTF2 figures that isn't horrible to look at nowdays. Its still got the "buff" look, but not near as bad as some of the others.
3.Imperial Pilot (2001 POTJ Target Exclusive TIE Interceptor) (http://www.rebelscum.com/potjtieinterceptor.asp) 2 -Basically the same as the POTF2 version, only with knee articulation.
4.TIE Fighter Pilot (Battle of Yavin) (2004 Saga #14) (http://www.rebelscum.com/sw0414tiepilot.asp) 3 -Very good sculpt and articulation, except for the arms.
5. 181st Squadron TIE Pilot (2007 TAC TRU Exclusive TIE Interceptor) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TACeliteTIEint.asp) 3 -I like how they added a little bit of color to it. Makes for an interesting looking TIE pilot.
6.Imperial Pilot (TIE Fighter) (2009 TLC Evolutions Imperial Pilot Legacy Series II) (http://www.rebelscum.com/tlcEVOImpPilots2.asp) 4 -SAGA pilot with the arms fixed and an RH added. Its pretty much the ultimate TIE pilot. I'm very pleased that the RH is not ultra squishy like on some other figures. Hope there is a wider release for this down the road.

1. Imperial TIE Fighter Pilot (1982 Vintage) – 2 – Was one of the later vintage figs I got.
2. TIE Fighter Pilot (1996 POTF2) – 1 – Ok for POTF2
3. Imperial Pilot (2001 POTJ Target Exclusive TIE Interceptor) – 2 – Extra point for the extra articulation.
4. TIE Fighter Pilot (Battle of Yavin) (2004 Saga #14) – 3 – I was almost completely happy with this till Evolutions. Didn’t even mind the arms.
5. 181st Squadron TIE Pilot (2007 TAC TRU Exclusive TIE Interceptor) - repaint of 2004 Saga #14 – 2 – Not too sure if I like the colours. Don’t have this one.
6. Imperial Pilot (TIE Fighter) (2009 TLC Evolutions Imperial Pilot Legacy Series II) – 4 – Great figure

Not much to add to the above comments, this round is pretty straight forward...

1. Imperial TIE Fighter Pilot (1982 Vintage) (http://www.rebelscum.com/VINtTIEpilot.asp) - 3 - Classic figure.
2. TIE Fighter Pilot (1996 POTF2) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2tiepilot.asp) - 1 - not too bad for POTF2.
3. Imperial Pilot (2001 POTJ Target Exclusive TIE Interceptor) (http://www.rebelscum.com/potjtieinterceptor.asp) - 2 - an extra point for the knees.
4. TIE Fighter Pilot (Battle of Yavin) (2004 Saga #14) (http://www.rebelscum.com/sw0414tiepilot.asp) - 3 - getting better....
5. 181st Squadron TIE Pilot (2007 TAC TRU Exclusive TIE Interceptor) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TACeliteTIEint.asp) - repaint of 2004 Saga #14 - 2 - TIE pilots should be black, but it's still a good sculpt.
6. Imperial Pilot (TIE Fighter) (2009 TLC Evolutions Imperial Pilot Legacy Series II) (http://www.rebelscum.com/tlcEVOImpPilots2.asp) - 3 - as good as it needs to be (just wish I had one!!)

Imperial TIE Fighter Pilot (1982 Vintage) - 1 - Looks a little chubby, and has more gray than what he should have.
TIE Fighter Pilot (1996 POTF2) - 1 - This was one of the first modern figures I opened. I was a bit disappointed because he didn't stand well on his own, and the oversized guns were unwieldy and didn't fit well in his hands. Okay for an army builder though.
Imperial Pilot (2001 POTJ Target Exclusive TIE Interceptor) - 2 - I opened the box enough to get the figure out of the TIE Bomber. He seemed to stand okay. A much better figure it seems, and has knee articulation.
TIE Fighter Pilot (Battle of Yavin) (2004 Saga #14) - 3 - A very nice figure, but could use better arm articulation.
181st Squadron TIE Pilot (2007 TAC TRU Exclusive TIE Interceptor) - repaint of 2004 Saga #14 - 3 - A nice looking EU repaint.
Imperial Pilot (TIE Fighter) (2009 TLC Evolutions Imperial Pilot Legacy Series II) - 3 - The arms have better articulation now, but they still seem kind of wonky. I can't give this a 4.

Next up is Yoda. I'll just do half of the figures for now, and the rest will follow in the next grouping.

Go ahead and rate the numbered figures with the following scale:

0 - Not worth getting
1 - Not very good, but has some unique or redeeming value to it
2 - A decent figure, but could be or has been done better
3 - A very good figure that is a fine choice if you just want one of this character
4 - One of the better figures of all time

Yoda
1. Yoda (1980 Vintage) (http://www.rebelscum.com/VINtYoda.asp%22) - 4 - it may be 29 years old, but this is still the best Yoda figure we have. At the time, the sculpt, detail, accessories and articulation were exceptional for this scale, and it still holds up very well today. It has more articulation than any other version in this section, and the soft goods fit better than most soft goods we see today. I would love to see a modern Yoda top this one, but until then it remains one of my favourite figures ever.
2. Yoda (1996 POTF2) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2Yoda.asp) - 2 - not a patch on the vintage, but I'm still very fond of this figure.
3. Yoda (1998 POTF2 Flashback) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2yodafb.asp) - with hair and boiling pot - 2 - not sure if the hair is really an improvement, but the accessories are nice.
4. Yoda Spirit (1998 POTF2 Jedi Spirits Cinema Scene) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2jedispirits.asp) - 1 - I'm not a fan of holo/spirit figures, but this is fine for what it is.
5. Dagobah with Yoda (1998 POTF2 Complete Galaxy) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2cgyoda.asp) - 3 - the best modern OT Yoda so far produced... very similar to the first POTF2 version, but the sculpt is so much sharper and more detailed. It has the absolute best head sculpt imo, just lacking in articulation.
6. Yoda (1999 Episode 1) (http://www.rebelscum.com/episodeIYoda.asp) - 1 - I dislike the Ep1 pug-nosed puppet, but this is a good enough representation.
7. Yoda (Jedi Master) (2002 Saga #23) (http://www.rebelscum.com/sagayoda.asp) - 1 - I really liked this figure when it came out, but now it just makes me think of a pencil topper. The metal hilt on the lightsabre was cool though.
8. Yoda (Jedi High Council) (2002 Saga #53) (http://www.rebelscum.com/sagayodajedicouncil.asp) - repaint of 1999 Episode I - 1 - the paint is slightly better, but I still don't like the sculpt.
9. Yoda with Force Powers! (2002 Saga Deluxe) (http://www.rebelscum.com/sagadxyoda.asp) - 1 - nothing special - like most deluxe figures, it's inferior to a basic figure.
10. Yoda & Chian (2003 Saga #15) (http://www.rebelscum.com/sw0315yodachian.asp) - 1 - great as part of a 2-pack, but on its own, not so good. The deep-crotch leg articulation is too obvious.
11. Holiday Edition Yoda (2003 Fan Club Exclusive) (http://www.rebelscum.com/sw03holiday2.asp) - 2 - not an essential Yoda by any means, but it has a very nice sculpt, and if you want a Santa Yoda, this is one is perfectly fine.
12. Yoda (2003 Clone Wars #44) (http://www.rebelscum.com/CW0344yoda.asp) - 1 - nice to have a different look for Yoda, but the sculpt is very soft, and he's too green.
13. Yoda (2003 Clone Wars Animated Figure) (http://www.rebelscum.com/CWanimatedYoda.asp) - 1 - I really like this stylised look, but it's basically a statue.

1. Yoda (1980 Vintage) - 2 - good nostalgia, fun figure, contains the soft-goods well.
2. Yoda (1996 POTF2) - 1 - was good for the time, but comes up a little less than now. Best feature is the backpack, and even that has been done better now.
3. Yoda (1998 POTF2 Flashback) - with hair and boiling pot - 3 - great accessories, hair looks ok here where others miss it, and face and coloring deliver a real look.
...Yoda (2005 Target Exclusive Collectible Cups) - repack of 1998 Flashback without boiling pot - 1 - Burger King-styled cup is ok, cute set, but not much of a toy compared to original.
4. Yoda Spirit (1998 POTF2 Jedi Spirits Cinema Scene) - 3 - works better than it should, even if it is stuck in the WRONG pose.
5. Dagobah with Yoda (1998 POTF2 Complete Galaxy) - 1 - very similar to '96 figure.
6. Yoda (1999 Episode 1) - 2 - I don't care for this look, but it's accurate to the film. The sitting sucks though because of the mono-leg reveal.
7. Yoda (Jedi Master) (2002 Saga #23) - 1 - likeness is meh, gimmick wilts.
...Yoda (Battle of Geonosis) (2004 Saga Hall of Fame) - repack of Saga 2002 #23 - 0 - we didn't need it twice.
8. Yoda (Jedi High Council) (2002 Saga #53) - repaint of 1999 Episode I - 0 - lesser repaint.
...Yoda (2004 OTC Jedi High Council Screen Scene 1) - slight repaint of 2002 Saga #53 - 0 - ditto.
9. Yoda with Force Powers! (2002 Saga Deluxe) - with Super Battle Droid - 1 - figure is meh, but gimmick is a little fun.
10. Yoda & Chian (2003 Saga #15) - 2 - I like the sitting and the hover chair.
...Yoda (2005 ROTS Jedi vs. Sith Battle Pack) - slight repaint of 2003 Saga #15 - 0 - no chair means no thanks.
...Yoda (2007 TAC Jedi vs. Sith Battle Pack) - same as ROTS battle pack - 0 - ditto.
11. Holiday Edition Yoda (2003 Fan Club Exclusive) - 3 - excellent rendition of the card art.
12. Yoda (2003 Clone Wars #44) - 0 - ugly, goofy, lame, underarticulated.
13. Yoda (2003 Clone Wars Animated Figure) - 2 - unusual, but not quite accurate.

Yoda
1. Yoda (1980 Vintage) – 4 – Possibly the best vintage fig ever made
2. Yoda (1996 POTF2) – 2 – Definitely one of the better POTF2 figs
3. Yoda (1998 POTF2 Flashback) – 2 – Nice accessories.
4. Yoda Spirit (1998 POTF2 Jedi Spirits Cinema Scene) – 3 – The best spirit Yoda!
5. Dagobah with Yoda (1998 POTF2 Complete Galaxy) – 2 – Slightly better than the other POTF2 Yodas
6. Yoda (1999 Episode 1) – 3 – Good representation of the Ep1 Yoda
7. Yoda (Jedi Master) (2002 Saga #23) – 1 – Poor articulation and ugly little squashed face makes it look like a goblin, a look that has haunted Yoda for a while now.
8. Yoda (Jedi High Council) (2002 Saga #53) – 3 – Slightly better colours than EP1 Yoda, but still essentially the same.
9. Yoda with Force Powers! (2002 Saga Deluxe) - with Super Battle Droid – 1 – Not got this, but it looks like it is a bit of a statue with an ugly little goblin head.
10. Yoda & Chian (2003 Saga #15) – 1 – Another ugly representation with poor articulation. . . FAIL!
11. Holiday Edition Yoda (2003 Fan Club Exclusive) – 2 – Fun, but not much use
12. Yoda (2003 Clone Wars #44) – 2 – Still looks awful, but sculpt is a bit better.
13. Yoda (2003 Clone Wars Animated Figure) – 0 – Absolutely horrific, worst Yoda ever! I would give this -5 if I could.

Yoda (1980 Vintage) - 3 - Compared to all the modern Yodas, this one still holds up pretty well. The soft goods work well and look nice. He doesn't have a one-piece leg. His head is a bit big and slightly cartoonish, and a bit too light green. Change that and add a bit more articulation and this would be the ultimate Yoda.
Yoda (1996 POTF2) - 1 - Okay, but he looks a bit big when in the pack behind Dagobah Luke
Yoda (1998 POTF2 Flashback) - with hair and boiling pot - 1 - Not much of an improvement other than new accessories. The hair looks funny.
Yoda Spirit (1998 POTF2 Jedi Spirits Cinema Scene) - 2 - I think this is the only Yoda Spirit we have, and it looks all right in that pose.
Dagobah with Yoda (1998 POTF2 Complete Galaxy) - 1 - Essentially the basic figure again.
Yoda (1999 Episode 1) - 1 - Still a one piece leg, and the articulation doesn't add much.
Yoda (Jedi Master) (2002 Saga #23) - 1 - I was really beginning to dislike Yoda figure starting with the Saga line.
Yoda (Jedi High Council) (2002 Saga #53) - repaint of 1999 Episode I - 1 - New paint job doesn't really change my opinion
Yoda with Force Powers! (2002 Saga Deluxe) - with Super Battle Droid - 0 - Pretty much a statue. Buy this more for another SBD and the base that comes with it.
Yoda & Chian (2003 Saga #15) - 2 - Figure isn't much better than the previous ones, but the hoverchair makes it worth getting.
Holiday Edition Yoda (2003 Fan Club Exclusive) - 2 - A nice figure to have on display for the Holidays.
Yoda (2003 Clone Wars #44) - 2 - Probably generous to give it a 2, but the platform adds some value to it.
Yoda (2003 Clone Wars Animated Figure) - 0 - I had no use for this animated Clone Wars line.

The first release (orange snake) was a light green, but they did a later version (brown snake) in a darker green (and although it doesn't look like it in the pics, the darker version was made from a much less shiny plastic), plus there are variant shades in between. http://www.rebelscum.com/photo.asp?image=/vintage/vintyodas.jpg

I'll rate the new batch later.

Okay, thanks. Those are pretty new so I missed them. I only added the second one as a unique one to vote on since it is a repaint and has a new robe. If you want to specify which version of the CW Yoda is better, you can do that.

14. Yoda (Dagobah Training) (2004 OTC #2) (http://www.rebelscum.com/OTC02yodadagobah.asp) - 2 - although I've given this the same rating, I still prefer POTF2 - this one has ball jointed shoulders, but POFT2 has better articulation overall, and a far superior headsculpt. This one looks like an evil goblin. It was a fun figure though, especially when combined with Luke.
15. Yoda (2004 VOTC) (http://www.rebelscum.com/OTC-Vyoda.asp) - 2 - a huge disappointment. Another inferior headsculpt, that looks too small. The soft goods cloak is not nearly as good as the vintage, and the lower robe does not integrate well with his lower body, I would've preferred if it was somehow removable. Nice accessories, though the belt buckle feels very fragile.
16. Yoda (Firing Cannon!) (2005 ROTS #3) (http://www.rebelscum.com/ROTS0503yoda.asp) - 3 - I liked this figure a lot - still not a great likeness, but good articulation, and the removable plastic cloak worked pretty well.
17. Yoda (Spinning Attack!) (2005 ROTS #26) (http://www.rebelscum.com/ROTS0526yoda.asp) - 0 - like most deluxe, this is inferior to a basic figure, and is all about the play feature - and I can't remember if that worked particularly well.
18. Yoda & Can-Cell (2005 ROTS Deluxe) (http://www.rebelscum.com/ROTS05dlxyoda.asp) - 0 - the figure itself is a piece of junk - unarticulated and soft detail, but it was a pretty cool set.
19. Holographic Yoda (Kashyyyk Transmission) (2005 ROTS TRU Exclusive) (http://www.rebelscum.com/rots05holoyoda.asp) - based on 2003 Saga #15 - 1 - ok for a holo figure, but far from essential imo.
20. Yoda & Kybuck (2007 30th Anniversary #32) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TAC32yodakybuck.asp) - 3 - awesome set, especially for a basic card. I wanted Yoda on his kybuck as soon as I saw the CW cartoon, and this didn't disappoint. Good articulation (for a small figure), the sculpt is getting better, and it's very neat how his ears poke through his hood.
21. Yoda (2006 TAC Episode III Commemorative Tin Collection) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TACtinepisodeiIII.asp) - repack of ROTS #3 with VOTC softgoods cloak - 3 - I never got this, but I'll score it the same as the ROTS version.
22. Yoda (Firing Force Blast!) (2008 The Clone Wars #3) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TCW03Yoda.asp) - 1 - I really like the style of this figure, and was the only CW figure I bought from the first wave, but the integrated action figure ruins it.
23. Yoda (2009 The Clone Wars CW14) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TCW14_Yoda.asp) - 4 - Yes, 4!! I absolutely love this figure! It's possibly my favourite of the year, and I don't even collect CW! It has the best articulation of any Yoda figure, the soft goods work well, and the sculpt is perfect. It's a great little figure to fiddle with, and actually reminds me a lot of the vintage - maybe because that one also had a large, almost cartoony head, and came in two colour variants. I prefer the lighter green version from the Screen Scene 2-pack, and is the only one I have so far, though the basic version is sitting under the Christmas tree.
24. Yoda vs. Droideka (2009 TLC Geonosis Arena Showdown) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TLCArena6-Yoda_DD.asp) - repaint of TAC #32 with new robe - 4 - I liked the CW version, and this is the movie repaint, so is even better. The best prequel Yoda so far. (Again, this one's coming for Christmas, so I'm going by the photos.)

How is his head connected? Looks like a nicely articulated body to transplant a different head onto.

Oh yeah, my bad - it was still a poor figure though, mainly aimed at kids I guess.

It's ball jointed - looks like quite a big joint though, not sure what else would fit it, not without some serious dremelling. If you use it for a custom I'd be very interested in seeing the results.

No problem. If I can find a CW yoda, I'll prob give it a shot. I'm gonna be heading out pretty soon here. Dremeling wouldn't be a problem, I've done a fair share of modding TF's and other lines. TFs are the hardest b/c of the amount of moving joints. Replacing a head would be one of the easiste things ever :) I'll post back if I get into it.

Cool. Have you got a head in mind? Most recent Yoda heads have seemed too small, my favourite sculpt is still POTF2.

no luck! figures... the ONE time i'm looking for a CW figure..nothin. I shouldn't be surprised though it IS the worst time of the year for finding such a thing. I was thinking maybe of the dagobah playset yoda for the head. I've never seen the CW yoda in person so idk if it would be proportionally correct or not.

14. Yoda (Dagobah Training) (2004 OTC #2) - 4 - Perhaps my favorite Yoda, the head sculpt, the arm pose, the interaction with the backpack.
15. Yoda (2004 VOTC) - 2 - I'm so annoyed by this figure for coming out right after superawesome Yoda there. It's all fat in the headsculpt and then the costume is ultra poofy too. And it was ten bucks!
16. Yoda (Firing Cannon!) (2005 ROTS #3) - 0
17. Yoda (Spinning Attack!) (2005 ROTS #26) - 0
18. Yoda & Can-Cell (2005 ROTS Deluxe) - 0 - boring figure even by Yoda standards, and horribly sculpted to boot.
19. Holographic Yoda (Kashyyyk Transmission) (2005 ROTS TRU Exclusive) - based on 2003 Saga #15 - 2 - it does what it needs to.
20. Yoda & Kybuck (2007 30th Anniversary #32) - 2 - delivers what it promises, although I don't care for the use of the character in the original source material.
21. Yoda (2006 TAC Episode III Commemorative Tin Collection) - repack of ROTS #3 with VOTC softgoods cloak - 1 - accessory works better for this sculpt, concept works for the movie, but it's another source material thing like previous.
22. Yoda (Firing Force Blast!) (2008 The Clone Wars #3) - 1
23. Yoda (2009 The Clone Wars CW14) - 2
24. Yoda vs. Droideka (2009 TLC Geonosis Arena Showdown) - repaint of TAC #32 with new robe - 2

I feel like this one was more generous than my previous.

Now I actually have this in hand, I need to mark it down to a 3. I still think it has the best sculpt and detail (for a PT Yoda), but I don't like how one arm is permanently bent while the other is completely straight, and both legs are bent so he's always sitting/squatting - he has to hunch forward to stand up. Plus, the soft goods are rubbish - they don't sit right, mainly because of the mis-matched arms, and the hood is useless - it can't go over his head, or lay flat at the back, it's just a messy lump behind his head.

Yoda (Dagobah Training) (2004 OTC #2) - 2 - Basically a statue on the lower half, but the upper half is good and looks great in Luke's backpack.
Yoda (2004 VOTC) - 3 - I'm a bit reluctant to give him a three, but he does have pretty good articulation. Not a good representation of OT Yoda. That would require the belt to be on the outside and his robe being more closed.
Yoda (Firing Cannon!) (2005 ROTS #3) - 2 - A decent figure, but the legs have the offset stance, and I don't like the cloak done this way.
Yoda (Spinning Attack!) (2005 ROTS #26) - 0 - Action feature laden, and again with the bad cloak, and a uni-leg.
Yoda & Can-Cell (2005 ROTS Deluxe) - 0 - Fixed in a sitting pose on something we didn't see him on in the movie.
Holographic Yoda (Kashyyyk Transmission) (2005 ROTS TRU Exclusive) - based on 2003 Saga #15 - 1 - Okay holo for sitting in the council chair.
Yoda & Kybuck (2007 30th Anniversary #32) - 3 - Best suited for sitting on the kybuck. A nice Clone Wars figure. I like the lighsaber slot on his back. Legs make him less effective standing. The kybuck makes it a nice set.
Yoda (2006 TAC Episode III Commemorative Tin Collection) - repack of ROTS #3 with VOTC softgoods cloak - 3 - Hard to judge since I don't have this one open, but I'll rate it better than the previous release because of the soft goods.
Yoda (Firing Force Blast!) (2008 The Clone Wars #3) - 1 - He looks more cartoony than a lot of other TCW figures. Action feature kind of make him worse. Might be best to get him in the multi-pack with the clones.

I'd like to see another vote or two for this round, but I'll post the next character tomorrow. That will be Han Solo in Carbonite/Jabba's Palace.
Yoda (2009 The Clone Wars CW14) - 3 - A much better figure than the previous TCW figure. Lots of articulation. While he is still cartoony, it's not a bad representation of the cartoon character.
Yoda vs. Droideka (2009 TLC Geonosis Arena Showdown) - repaint of TAC #32 with new robe - 2 - Not being used in context with the kybuck, this figure doesn't rate as well.

Yoda (Dagobah Training) (2004 OTC #2) – 3 – I like how this figure looks, but echo the statue remarks.
Yoda (2004 VOTC) – 2 – This is an ugly looking figure and not accurate.
Yoda (Firing Cannon!) (2005 ROTS #3) – 2 – Not too bad, but not keen on the cloak.
Yoda (Spinning Attack!) (2005 ROTS #26) – 0 – Pointless rubbish, I am not a fan of action features in figures.
Yoda & Can-Cell (2005 ROTS Deluxe) – 1 – I guess this is a bit different.
Holographic Yoda (Kashyyyk Transmission) (2005 ROTS TRU Exclusive) – 2 – If you need a holo Yoda this will do the trick.
Yoda & Kybuck (2007 30th Anniversary #32) – 2 – Not keen on the head sculpt
Yoda (2006 TAC Episode III Commemorative Tin Collection) – 3 – I like this more than most the others on this list.
Yoda (Firing Force Blast!) (2008 The Clone Wars #3) – 0 – Every CW figure will get a zero from me as I hate em. Waste of time, money & effort.
Yoda (2009 The Clone Wars CW14) – 0 – See above.
Yoda vs. Droideka (2009 TLC Geonosis Arena Showdown) - 2 – still don’t like the head on this figure

Next up is Han Solo in Carbonite. Use the following scale and only rate the numbered figures from the list below.

0 - Not worth getting
1 - Not very good, but has some unique or redeeming value to it
2 - A decent figure, but could be or has been done better
3 - A very good figure that is a fine choice if you just want one of this character
4 - One of the better figures of all time

Han Solo in Carbonite

This is an especially difficult one because how these figures play today is a most mixed bag.

1. Han Solo (In Carbonite Chamber) (1985 Vintage) - 2 - It's probably really a one, but it did something no other has done since, it REALLY had the figure in Carbonite! Yeah he has a gigantic neck, but c'mon.
2. Han Solo (Carbonite) (1996 POTF2) - 1 - this thing was so rad in its day, but doesn't hold up over time.
3. Han Solo in Carbonite (1998 POTF2 Jabba's Palace 3-D Display Diorama) - 1 - small size and over-the-top face damned an otherwise brilliant concept.
4. Han Solo (2004 Skirmish at Carkoon Battle Pack) - 1 - frankenstein figure isn't too bad, but the shirt is all wrong and that head is too cartoony.
5. Han Solo (Carbonite) (2006 Saga Collection #002) - 2 - getting closer, but the orange vomit and small size don't help things, the ball-jointed head is one of their lesser efforts, and the "heating" carbonite block is great for exactly 1 moment in the saga. This might have been an instance to whip out the color-change gimmick or something.

Wow, Han Carbonite is still whack after all this time!

Han Solo (In Carbonite Chamber) (1985 Vintage) – 1 – The carbon block is not accurate and the figure is too bulky
Han Solo (Carbonite) (1996 POTF2) – 2 – More accurate than the vintage, but the figure is still too bulky.
Han Solo in Carbonite (1998 POTF2 Jabba's Palace 3-D Display Diorama) – 2 – Nice idea, but too scene specific. I don’t own this one.
Han Solo (2004 Skirmish at Carkoon Battle Pack) – 1 – Figure is not too bad, but inaccurate.
Han Solo (Carbonite) (2006 Saga Collection #002) – 2 – Probably the best of the bunch, but could be done better.

1. Han Solo (In Carbonite Chamber) (1985 Vintage) (http://www.rebelscum.com/VINtHancarbonite.asp) - 2 - the bull neck stops this from getting a 3, though I don't think it looks so bad IRL as in the RS pics. Very cool how you can actually see him inside the carbonite - the block may not be screen accurate, but it's a great toy, which is all it was ever intended to be.
2. Han Solo (Carbonite) (1996 POTF2) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2hancarbonite.asp) - 2 - not too bad at all for POTF2, and still the best carbo block.
3. Han Solo in Carbonite (1998 POTF2 Jabba's Palace 3-D Display Diorama) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF23djabba.asp) - 1 - the shirt is more accurate, and I can see what they were trying to achieve, but overall the sculpt just looks weird.
4. Han Solo (2004 Skirmish at Carkoon Battle Pack) (http://www.rebelscum.com/sw04skirmishatcarkoon.asp) - 1 - a nice variation on the much-loved commtech Han, but not really right for carbo Han.
5. Han Solo (Carbonite) (2006 Saga Collection #002) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TSC002hancarbonite.asp) - 3 - far from perfect, but the best one so far. No knees, swivel elbows, and weird upwardly staring eyes, but it's good enough for my needs, and I'd be happy enough with this if it never gets upgraded. I quite like the block, but for those who don't like it, just swap it with the one from POTF2.

Han Solo (In Carbonite Chamber) (1985 Vintage) 1 -Possibly the worst Han in the vintage collection. However, I like the transparent block.
Han Solo (Carbonite) (1996 POTF2) 1 -Suffers from the same steroid look that most of the figures from this era do. The block is the best they've made for the 3 3/4 line.
Han Solo in Carbonite (1998 POTF2 Jabba's Palace 3-D Display Diorama) 1 -Nice try on the hair, but it still suffers from the steroid look. I like the empty block.
Han Solo (2004 Skirmish at Carkoon Battle Pack) 1 -Basically Bespin Han without the jacket. Better, but not by much.
Han Solo (Carbonite) (2006 Saga Collection #002) 2 -This is the best one they've made, but paint apps hold it back, especially in the eyes, which look like they are rolling into the back of his head. The thawing block is kinda nice, but I think a step back from the POTF2 version.

Han Solo (In Carbonite Chamber) (1985 Vintage) - 1 - Not a bad looking figure other than the head/neck. The shirt seems the wrong color, but I like the see-through effect of the block.
Han Solo (Carbonite) (1996 POTF2) - 1 - The best block of the bunch I think, but I have trouble getting the figure to stand on its own, and it has the POTF2 bulkiness to him.
Han Solo in Carbonite (1998 POTF2 Jabba's Palace 3-D Display Diorama) - 1 - Doesn't look like Han, and block is only good for when he is coming out of it.
Han Solo (2004 Skirmish at Carkoon Battle Pack) - 0 - Kit-bashed the worst parts of two decent figures.
Han Solo (Carbonite) (2006 Saga Collection #002) - 2 - Best of the bunch, but still not that great. By 2006, figures were getting a lot more articulation, but the only extra articulation this one has is a ball jointed neck and swivel elbows. The effect on the block is kind of cool, but only for the one moment.

1. Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight Outfit) (1983 Vintage) – 2 – This was a cool figure at the time.
2. Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight) (1996 POTF2) – 2 – One of the better POTF2 figures.
3. Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight) (1998 POTF2 Complete Galaxy) – 1 – Not got this, but looks a little underarticulated.
4. Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight) (1998 POTF2 Rancor) – 1 – Same as Complete Galaxy.
5. Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight) (1999 POTF2 Tatooine Skiff) – 1 – Same as Complete Galaxy.
6. Luke Skywalker (Jabba's Palace) (2004 Saga #04) – 2 – Better than the previous 3, but still not good enough.
7. Holographic Luke Skywalker (Jabba's Palace) (2004 Saga #11) – 0 – I have no use for this and think it looks terrible - Holo figs are a cheap scam by Hasbro to make us buy figures we don't want.
8. Luke Skywalker (2006 TSC Battle Above the Sarlacc Battle Pack) - retool of 2004 Saga #04 – 1 – Saga #04 is better.
9. Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight) (2007 30th Anniversary #25) - includes bone – 1 – I am really fed up of Luke Jedi looking bad & the softgoods & belt on this are dreadful.

These were hard to rate.

Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight Outfit) (1983 Vintage) - 0 - The head reminds me of Hervι Villechaize.
Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight) (1996 POTF2) - 0 - The face looks weird, and he is still a bit buff like most POTF2 figures.
Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight) (1998 POTF2 Complete Galaxy) - 1 - A much better likeness
Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight) (1998 POTF2 Rancor) - 0 - Still has the better likeness, but only good for this pose.
Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight) (1999 POTF2 Tatooine Skiff) - 1 - Improved articulation, but doesn't quite rise to the next level
Luke Skywalker (Jabba's Palace) (2004 Saga #04) - 2 - If he could hold the gun, and if the hood on the cloak was done better, I might give it a 3.
Holographic Luke Skywalker (Jabba's Palace) (2004 Saga #11) - 2 - Okay figure for a holograph, but once they started using this style for spirits and reverted back to the blue figures for holographs, it sort of makes this one seem out of place
Luke Skywalker (2006 TSC Battle Above the Sarlacc Battle Pack) - retool of 2004 Saga #04 - 2 - Maybe a step back with posed leg
Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight) (2007 30th Anniversary #25) - includes bone - 2 - Some things are improved from Saga 2004, but other things more than offset that. I'm not sure what is up with the soft goods.

Sorry I haven't been keeping things going here. There have only been two people to rate the Jedi Lukes, so I'll pass on posting any results for now. Let's get a few more people rating those figures.

For now, I will move forward with the next character. That would be Death Star Gunner. Since there aren't very many of those, I decided to include the Death Star Trooper. So, rank the numbered figures according to the following scale:

0 - Not worth getting
1 - Not very good, but has some unique or redeeming value to it
2 - A decent figure, but could be or has been done better
3 - A very good figure that is a fine choice if you just want one of this character
4 - One of the better figures of all time

5. Death Star Trooper (1998 POTF2 Freeze Frame) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2deathstartrooper.asp)

As always, let me know if I missed something.

Sorry, I keep forgetting to reply to this. I'll rate Luke now, and will do the Gunner/Trooper later.

1. Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight Outfit) (1983 Vintage) (http://www.rebelscum.com/VINtLukejedi.asp) - 3 - my rating is for the moulded face variant, the standard painted face is not so good. Apart from the usual shortcomings of flesh paint, this one also looks too fat faced.
2. Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight) (1996 POTF2) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2lukejedi.asp) - 1 - I really liked this at the time, and was a big fan of the plastic cape, but it looks terribly dated now.
3. Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight) (1998 POTF2 Complete Galaxy) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2cgluke.asp) - 1 - less buff, but it doesn't have the cape to redeem it. Also the hip joints don't look so good.
4. Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight) (1998 POTF2 Rancor) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2dlxbeastluke.asp) - 2 - best of the POTF2 versions, but a little pre-posed.
5. Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight) (1999 POTF2 Tatooine Skiff) (http://www.rebelscum.com/potf2skiff.asp) - 0 - I thought this was just a repack, but now I look at it, I can see it's even worse than previous versions. Very cheap looking.
6. Luke Skywalker (Jabba's Palace) (2004 Saga #04) (http://www.rebelscum.com/sw0404lukejedi.asp) - 3 - hugely improved in sculpt and articulation. The knee joints are a little outdated, but it's really the swivel elbows that stop it from getting a 4.
7. Holographic Luke Skywalker (Jabba's Palace) (2004 Saga #11) (http://www.rebelscum.com/sw0411lukehologram.asp) - 0 - I don't like holo figures, and this one isn't even consistent with other holos. The paint on the face just doesn't work for me.
8. Luke Skywalker (2006 TSC Battle Above the Sarlacc Battle Pack) (http://www.rebelscum.com/tscBPsarlaccbattle.asp) - 2 - poor paint apps and a pre-posed leg is a step backward from the Saga version.
9. Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight) (2007 30th Anniversary #25) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TAC25lukejedi.asp) - 3 - another great sculpt, and improved articulation, but the soft goods are terrible. Looks better without them, even with the slight gap in the torso.

Might as well rate these now...

Death Star Gunner
1. Imperial Gunner (1985 Vintage POTF) (http://www.rebelscum.com/VINtImperialgunner.asp) - 3 - simple, neutral, well-proportioned, classic vintage.
2. Death Star Gunner (1996 POTF2) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2deathstargunner.asp) - 1 - POTF2, 'nuff said.
3. Death Star Gunner (2006 The Saga Collection #041) (http://www.rebelscum.com/tsc041DSgunner.asp) - 4 - swivel elbows, but I don't need it re-done with ball joints, so have rated it as the definitive version.

Death Star Trooper
4. Death Squad Commander (1978 Vintage) (http://www.rebelscum.com/VINtdsc.asp) - 1 - I'm a big vintage fan, but never particularly liked this figure.
5. Death Star Trooper (1998 POTF2 Freeze Frame) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2deathstartrooper.asp) - 2 - hey, at least it's the right colour, and the RH was cool.
6. Death Star Trooper (2007 30th Anniversary #13) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TAC13DST.asp) - 4 - pretty boring (to me) but perfect for what it is.

7. Imperial Engineer (2008 TLC BD #22) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TLC22impengineer.asp) - repaint of Death Star Gunner TSC #41

Mad Slanted Powers

Imperial Gunner (1985 Vintage POTF) - 1 - An okay army builder type. Something about him looks kind of un-Star Wars. Maybe it is because of that one on the Turkish bootleg card (http://theswca.com/index.php?action=disp_item&item_id=38591).
Death Star Gunner (1996 POTF2) - 2 - The pumped up look doesn't hurt this figure as much. However, it appears this Death Star Gunner came an actual Death Star gun. His weapons are freakin' huge.
Death Star Gunner (2006 The Saga Collection #041) - 4 - I'll concur with sebilba. It has swivel elbows, but everything else about it is pretty good. Removable helmet and armor are nice.

Death Squad Commander (1978 Vintage) - later known as Star Destroyer Commander - 2 - I'll give this one a 2 because not only is it an army builder, but it served well for customization back in the vintage figure days. A friend of mine had his repainted as a Rebel Fleet Trooper, which was never made in the vintage line.
Death Star Trooper (1998 POTF2 Freeze Frame) - 1 - I'm being a bit generous to give this a 1 (or I wasn't generous enough in giving the vintage Imperial Gunner a 1). It took me a bit to get him to stand. He has to be in a running pose, and he has yet another freakin' huge gun. At least he has a removable helmet, and you can see his face when it is on, unlike the...
Death Star Trooper (2007 30th Anniversary #13) - 3 - More articulation than the DSG, but he looks kind of funny with the wide stance and bulbous joints. Also, the helmet covers his eyes, and those eyes seem about to roll back into his head. Still, it is much better than the previous versions.

Imperial Engineer (2008 TLC BD #22) - repaint of Death Star Gunner TSC #41 - 4 - I'll give this one the same rating as the figure it is based on. A nice repaint to get a figure from a cool game.

Death Star Gunner
1. Imperial Gunner (1985 Vintage POTF) – 2 – This was the last vintage figure I got to complete my collection, I remember hunting everywhere for him.
2. Death Star Gunner (1996 POTF2) – 1 – Better than most other POTF2 figures around at this time.
3. Death Star Gunner (2006 The Saga Collection #041) – 4 – I have no need for this to ever be remade.
4. Imperial Engineer (2008 TLC BD #22) - repaint of Death Star Gunner TSC #41 – 4 – like the paint variation.

Death Star Trooper
5. Death Squad Commander (1978 Vintage) - later known as Star Destroyer Commander – 2 – I’d love the new Vintage line to include this colour scheme.
6. Death Star Trooper (1998 POTF2 Freeze Frame) – 2 – I like the head & hat on this one, but the pose makes him awkward to stand.
7. Death Star Trooper (2007 30th Anniversary #13) – 2 – Don’t like the ugly ball joints, the expression on the face or the ankles on this figure.

Death Star Gunner
1. Imperial Gunner (1985 Vintage POTF) -2 -One of the better figures of the vintage line. It lacks the articulation of modern figures, but it sculpted very nicely.
2. Death Star Gunner (1996 POTF2) -3 -One of the best POTF2 figures. Its got the beefy look like most figures of that line, but nowhere near as bad as the main characters. Its also got the correct armor which the later versions did not have. The headgear and armor also have a much glossier paint job.
3. Death Star Gunner (2006 The Saga Collection #041) –4 -Its pretty much the ideal DSG and there is no need to redo it. I wish it would have the correct armor and shinier paint job, though.
4. Imperial Engineer (2008 TLC BD #22) -4 -I like the grey variation and even though its EU, they fit in nicely with my other DSGs.

Death Star Trooper
5. Death Squad Commander (1978 Vintage) -2 -Another nicely done imperial from the vintage era. As a kid, I had always wanted to get this one, but never did.
6. Death Star Trooper (1998 POTF2 Freeze Frame) – 2 -I was excited to get this one back in the day, but its awkward leg pose really detracts from it. The RH is done pretty nicely and its not horribly beefy like so many other figures from the POTF2 era.
7. Death Star Trooper (2007 30th Anniversary #13) -3 -I really like this figure, but I cant give it a 4 because of the wide stance and leg joints. I do like the insanely oversized helmet and overall sculpt though.

1. Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight Outfit) (1983 Vintage) - 2 - cool for its time if you could get the green saber variant, or find it at all.
2. Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight) (1996 POTF2) - 1 - back in the day, this figure was pretty boss in my book. The luster fell off quickly though.
3. Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight) (1998 POTF2 Complete Galaxy) - 0 - Somehow, Hasbro got really weird for a while with these pack-in Lukes.
4. Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight) (1998 POTF2 Rancor) - 0 - Ditto.
5. Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight) (1999 POTF2 Tatooine Skiff) - 0 - Ditto.
6. Luke Skywalker (Jabba's Palace) (2004 Saga #04) - 2 - Good for its time, though the ugly jointing and unusable hand are a bit frustrating, and the lower legs are garbage.
7. Holographic Luke Skywalker (Jabba's Palace) (2004 Saga #11) - 2 - Not a bad concept, works for me, should have been a little more translucent though.
8. Luke Skywalker (2006 TSC Battle Above the Sarlacc Battle Pack) - retool of 2004 Saga #04 - 1 - Wonky eyes.
9. Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight) (2007 30th Anniversary #25) - includes bone - 1 - I like the jointing and the way the belt works with the saber, but the soft-goods vest is incomplete, the head is recycled poorly from the previous figure, and the deco is weak. I think this figure could have worked better pretty much with only slight tweaks, and I almost gave it a 2 just on that.

Death Star Gunner
1. Imperial Gunner (1985 Vintage POTF) - 1 - even for vintage, by '85 they were doing more accurate work than this. That helmet is all sorts of weird.
2. Death Star Gunner (1996 POTF2) - 2 - not a bad figure, surprisingly.
3. Death Star Gunner (2006 The Saga Collection #041) - 2 - I wanted to rate it higher, but the vest doesn't work for crap and really holds this one back. I just don't like those diagonal-swivel elbows either.

Death Star Trooper
4. Death Squad Commander (1978 Vintage) - later known as Star Destroyer Commander - 1 - cute for its time, but eh, kinda corny now.
5. Death Star Trooper (1998 POTF2 Freeze Frame) - 2 - this was a big deal back in the day, but the running-man pose kills it, and the sculpt feels off.
6. Death Star Trooper (2007 30th Anniversary #13) - 2 - I wanted to rate it higher, but it's so large and the hat doesn't fit well, the jointing is also somewhat more unattractive than most of its ilk.

Now onto Greedo. Let me know if I missed any. Three of the figures are the same sculpt, but the paint is different enough to make them noticeably different. So, rate the figures with the following scale:

0 - Not worth getting
1 - Not very good, but has some unique or redeeming value to it
2 - A decent figure, but could be or has been done better
3 - A very good figure that is a fine choice if you just want one of this character
4 - One of the better figures of all time

1. Greedo (1978 Vintage) (http://www.rebelscum.com/VINtGreedo.asp) - originally available in Sears exclusive Cantina Adventure Set – 2 – I loved this figure when I was a kid.
2. Greedo (1996 POTF2) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2greedo.asp) – 1 – The head is too small
3. Greedo (1999 POTF2 Commtech) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2CTgreedo.asp) – 2 – This was a massive improvement, but has been done better since.
4. Greedo (2002 Saga Cantina Bar Set #3) (http://www.rebelscum.com/sw02wmcantinagreedo.asp) - repaint of Commtech – 2 – Same as 1999 POTF
5. Greedo (2004 OTC #22) (http://www.rebelscum.com/OTC22greedo.asp) - repaint of Commtech – 2 – Same as 1999 POTF
6. Greedo (2006 VTSC) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TSCvintage.asp) – 3 – This would be a 4 with the plastic vest from the Commtech, but I have marked it down due to the soft goods.

Greedo is one of my favourite SW characters, and I love all Greedo figures, so my ratings here may be slightly less objective than usual....

1. Greedo (1978 Vintage) (http://www.rebelscum.com/VINtGreedo.asp) - 3 - ok, I know the outfit is all wrong, but this was one of my favourite figures as a kid, and I still love it today. The sculpt may not be perfect, but it really captures his unique alien look. I actually had to stop myself from giving this a 4.
2. Greedo (1996 POTF2) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2greedo.asp) - 1 - I was so excited to get this when it first came out, but it hasn't dated as well as the vintage - probably because it doesn't hold quite the same nostalgia value.
3. Greedo (1999 POTF2 Commtech) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2CTgreedo.asp) - 2 - an excellent upgrade, still holds up very well today, and deserves (in my mind) more than a 2, but it's been improved upon even more since.
4. Greedo (2002 Saga Cantina Bar Set #3) (http://www.rebelscum.com/sw02wmcantinagreedo.asp) - repaint of Commtech - 3 - the same great sculpt, but with a more accurate colour scheme.
5. Greedo (2004 OTC #22) (http://www.rebelscum.com/OTC22greedo.asp) - repaint of Commtech - 3 - even better than the previous repaint, but similar enough to get the same rating.
6. Greedo (2006 VTSC) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TSCvintage.asp) - 4 - swap the soft goods for the OTC vest, and you have the the most awesome figure of all time! My absolute favourite figure ever!!

1. Greedo (1978 Vintage) (http://www.rebelscum.com/VINtGreedo.asp) 2 -A good figure for the time, but I never owned it and don't remember even seeing it for that matter, so not much sentimental value for me.
2. Greedo (1996 POTF2) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2greedo.asp) 1 The head was too smalll, poor articulation, POTF2 buffness, and an ultra wide stance make this easily the worst Greedo.
3. Greedo (1999 POTF2 Commtech) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2CTgreedo.asp) 2 -Better overall design. It was a real plus to have knee articulation and the head was the correct size. But the colors had a rather faded appearance, which I didn't like.
4. Greedo (2002 Saga Cantina Bar Set #3) (http://www.rebelscum.com/sw02wmcantinagreedo.asp) 3 -I liked the richer colors. Gives is a much better appearance.
5. Greedo (2004 OTC #22) (http://www.rebelscum.com/OTC22greedo.asp) 3 -Basically the same as the bar set version.
6. Greedo (2006 VTSC) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TSCvintage.asp) 4 -Excellent figure all the way around. Pretty much all you could want in a Greedo figure. I even don't mind the soft goods vest.

1. Greedo (1978 Vintage) - 1
2. Greedo (1996 POTF2) - 2
3. Greedo (1999 POTF2 Commtech) - 3
4. Greedo (2002 Saga Cantina Bar Set #3) - 3
5. Greedo (2004 OTC #22) - 3
6. Greedo (2006 VTSC) - 2 (I want to clarify that the sculpt and deco makes this really a 3 in my book, but the vest kills it hard, a mistake which is ridiculous for a $10 figure)

JT, it looks like you overlooked the Imperial Engineer I added after the fact. I didn't miss it, I chose not to vote on it because it's only a very simple repaint.

Here are my Greedo Rankings:

Greedo (1978 Vintage) - originally available in Sears exclusive Cantina Adventure Set - 0 - Totally wrong color, and I just had some trouble getting him to stand. The bright color would make him stand out in a diorama.
Greedo (1996 POTF2) - 1 - Looks more like Greedo, but has the bulky POTF2 styling. Somehow, I missed getting this one when I was catching up on all the POTF2 figures.
Greedo (1999 POTF2 Commtech) - 2 - A great figure for its time with the added articulation. However, the one leg is still in a bent position. The vest color is all wrong as well.
Greedo (2002 Saga Cantina Bar Set #3) - repaint of Commtech - 2 - Much improved on the color, but this one has no weapon.
Greedo (2004 OTC #22) - repaint of Commtech - 2 - Not sure whether I like this one more or less than the previous one, or which is more accurate.
Greedo (2006 VTSC) - 3 - Would definitely get a 4 with a better vest, though it doesn't bother me as much as it does some people.

Next in line is the Sandtrooper. This will be a little tricky with all the different variations we've seen recently. I'll see if I can get something posted tonight.

Wow, that one will be a mess. Just going through my figures from the last 3 years, I came across 4 different Sandtrooper figures. Significantly different paints, different backpacks, different ranks, different weapons, everything! And they were all Saga Legends. That is going to be quite a beast.

I might just move on to the Jawa first and come back to the Sandtrooper after that.

Okay, I will skip over the Sandtrooper for now and move on to the Jawa. Once again, rate the numbered figures using the following scale:

0 - Not worth getting
1 - Not very good, but has some unique or redeeming value to it
2 - A decent figure, but could be or has been done better
3 - A very good figure that is a fine choice if you just want one of this character
4 - One of the better figures of all time

Let me know if I have missed anything. I will probably have you rate the droids separately at some point, so you should focus mainly on the Jawas themselves. It is okay to consider whether the droid adds or detracts from the value of the set, though.

I'm not taking the droid pack-ins into account, they're not Jawas and this is a character study. Plus, they're all pretty much equally fine.

1. Jawa (1978 Vintage) - vinyl cape - 2
2. Jawa (1978 Vintage) - cloth cloak - 2 - although this one is a bit goofy, a hood over an existing hood. Both vintages look alright though. It's easy to get away with a Jawa I think, they don't do much and they don't look like much.
3. Jawas (1996 POTF2) - 4 - I like the variation you get here, and I don't mind the mono-leg. The light-piping works pretty well too. Being a multipack automatically makes this one a better choice.
4. Jawa (1997 POTF2 Ronto) - 2 - Not terrible, but not quite as good as the others from this era.
5. Jawa and "Gonk" Droid (1999 POTF2 Commtech) - 3 - an even better sculpt from the modern era.
6. Jawas (2004 OTC #24) - repaint of POTF2 - 2 - the overdoing of the grimy deco distracts from the figures and isn't accurate.
7. Jawas (2004 OTC Holiday Edition) - POTF2 sculpts - 2 - I always felt like this set could have been a little better.
8. Jawa & LIN Droid (2007 30th Anniversary #19) - 3 - an obscure vest-wearing Jawa that barely appears in the film, but the sculpt and articulation are decent, even if they do add a little bulk to the Jawa design.
9. Jawa & WED Treadwell Droid (2008 TLC #33) - 3 - a repaint with remolded bandolier of previous, it's still a good figure, and the vest being brown helps integrate better, although the hood-head looks a little too disconnected, and the holster and ion gun are too large.
10. Jawa & 2X-7KPR Security Droid (2009 TLC #39) - 2 - I like the figure, but the soft-goods don't integrate for crap with the recycled upper body. I flip-flop on this one a lot though, sometimes I like it more.

When I look at this image:
http://www.rebelscum.com/photo.asp?image=/TLC/Basic/BD39Jawa/LC-1890.jpg
The best ones in my book are the original POTF2 figures simply by the hood design and the ability to bend forward, they look the most to me like they're from the movie. Then it's the CTC version a close second, but his posture is a little too straight to make him the best. They're all good though, but I'm not surprised, it's really easy to make a Jawa figure design.

1. Jawa (1978 Vintage) (http://www.rebelscum.com/VINtJawa.asp) - vinyl cape - 3 - one of my favourite vintage figs, not sure it's really been topped in the modern line, but I have to concede the detail is a little soft by today's standards.
2. Jawa (1978 Vintage) (http://www.rebelscum.com/VINtJawa.asp) - cloth cloak - 3 - I love both versions. Soft goods haven't really improved much in the last 32 years.
3. Jawas (1996 POTF2) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2jawas.asp) - 2 - I don't think there are any bad Jawa figures, these still look good now, and you can't go wrong with a 2-pack. The mono-leg was very much of its era, it served its purpose just fine, but this is probably the least aesthetically pleasing of all the Jawa figures because of that. Same goes for the light-up eyes, nice gimmick though.
4. Jawa (1997 POTF2 Ronto) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2beastjawa.asp) - 2 - very similar to the 2-pack versions, slightly different pose for added variety.
5. Jawa and "Gonk" Droid (1999 POTF2 Commtech) (http://www.rebelscum.com/POTF2CTjawa.asp) - 2 - reduced articulation, but looks better than previous sculpts.
6. Jawas (2004 OTC #24) (http://www.rebelscum.com/OTC24jawas.asp) - repaint of POTF2 - 2 - cool repaint, not necessarily better, but more variety is always welcome.
7. Jawas (2004 OTC Holiday Edition) (http://www.rebelscum.com/otcholidayjawas.asp) - POTF2 sculpts - 1 - ok for Christmas decorations, but not much use otherwise.
8. Jawa & LIN Droid (2007 30th Anniversary #19) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TAC19jawa.asp) - 3 - very nice detail and cool accessories. The added arm articulation makes up for the lack of leg articulation. I don't remember a Jawa wearing a tan vest in the film, but he looks cool.
9. Jawa & WED Treadwell Droid (2008 TLC #33) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TLC33Jawa.asp) - 3 - I like this one better than the TAC version, apart from the oversized holster.
10. Jawa & 2X-7KPR Security Droid (2009 TLC #39) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TLCBD39Jawa.asp) - 3 - this should be the definitive version, with the upgraded leg articulation, but I'm not so keen on the soft goods - I like soft goods when they're a completely separate, removeable piece, but this is like two mis-matched parts of the same figure - it just doesn't integrate that well. I can appreciate it was needed for the articulation to be effective, but I preferred it when figures were made with soft vinyl "skirts" with slits up the sides.

Sorry it's been so long since I've posted. Here are my Jawa ratings. These were tough to figure out.

Jawa (1978 Vintage) - vinyl cape - 2 - I don't like the vinyl cape, but without it, the figure is a good representation of a Jawa, though perhaps a bit small. Better articulation in a Jawa could not be found until 2007.
Jawa (1978 Vintage) - cloth cloak - 3 - The cloth robe really makes it look like a Jawa, until you take it off and realize that it's missing all the detail of the bandolier and belt. That's the beauty of it, though. You can display it either way and it still looks good.
Jawas (1996 POTF2) - 1 - I never really cared for these too much. They are pretty much statues, and the taller one is a bit orange for my taste. Or maybe it just the fixed pose.
Jawa (1997 POTF2 Ronto) - 1 - More neutral, but a odd shade of brown, and still the mono leg.
Jawa and "Gonk" Droid (1999 POTF2 Commtech) - 2 - Okay, I actually like this one better than the previous ones despite it being just as orange or more so. In some ways the articulation isn't as good with the swivel waist instead of a bending one. However, I just think it looks better than the previous POTF2 ones.
Jawas (2004 OTC #24) - repaint of POTF2 - 2 - I like the color of these better than the original release.
Jawas (2004 OTC Holiday Edition) - POTF2 sculpts - 2 - I like the concept. I find the Jawas with gifts to be kind of amusing. You don't know whether they are giving them or "scavanging" them.
Jawa & LIN Droid (2007 30th Anniversary #19) - 3 - I guess this one is in the movie, but he looks a bit different than what most Jawas look like. He has more articulation than any previous Jawas, at least in the arms. It may have individual legs, but can't really move them. Interesting new accessories with the holster and droid caller.
Jawa & WED Treadwell Droid (2008 TLC #33) - 3 - Pretty much a repaint of the TAC one with new accessories. It looks a bit better, but all the stuff kind of gets ini the way.
Jawa & 2X-7KPR Security Droid (2009 TLC #39) - 3 - This is the closest they have come to being able to merge the two looks of the vintage figures into one, but still not perfect. While he has individual legs, in the tradition of the POTF2 figures, they are kind of offset for a not quite neutral pose.

I still haven't done any further work on the Sandtroopers, so when we get a couple more votes on the Jawas, I'll move onto Momaw Nadon.

1. Jawa (1978 Vintage) - vinyl cape – 2 – This was the first jawa I had so gotta give him a couple of marks.
2. Jawa (1978 Vintage) - cloth cloak – 3 – I think the soft goods really work on this fig.
3. Jawas (1996 POTF2) – 2 – A bit lacking in detail
4. Jawa (1997 POTF2 Ronto) – 3 – I think this one looks a bit better than either in the 2 pack.
5. Jawa and "Gonk" Droid (1999 POTF2 Commtech) – 1 – I hate the split skirt thingy going on here. Makes this the worst of the bunch.
6. Jawas (2004 OTC #24) - repaint of POTF2 – 3 – Better detail so an extra point.
7. Jawas (2004 OTC Holiday Edition) - POTF2 sculpts – 1 – Bored of ‘Holiday’ figs.
8. Jawa & LIN Droid (2007 30th Anniversary #19) – 4 – Great figure.
9. Jawa & WED Treadwell Droid (2008 TLC #33) – 4 – Also a great figure.
10. Jawa & 2X-7KPR Security Droid (2009 TLC #39) – 1 – Don’t like the soft goods at all.
