Just came across this Fan Club Mail-In item... new to me... kinda interesting.

Yeah, I picked it up on eBay a few months ago. I like it, but photographing it was a bear. The dang thing wouldn't stop spinning on it's support!

It's a bit of a strange product... like attaching a Titanium ship to a MM ship, really.

I wonder what other Fan Club gems (in terms of ships) are out there, besides this, the AF exclusives, and the ISD?

The only Fan Club items I'm aware of are the Star Destroyer/Darth Vader (http://www.miniempire.ca/index.php?page=detail&cat=micro&type=veh&item=42) set, Millennium Falcon/Han Solo (http://www.miniempire.ca/index.php?page=detail&cat=micro&type=veh&item=41) set, and the Action Fleet Dagobah X-wing (http://www.miniempire.ca/index.php?page=detail&cat=fleet&type=veh&item=45). I don't believe the Balance Of Power was a Fan Club exclusive because the Certificate Of Authenticity states that it was "available exclusively through Lewis Galoob Toys". Other oddities I've come across were the "Gold Classic Series" which were advertised with the Balance Of Power set, which makes me think they came through the same distribution channels, but they were a touch more expensive.

Regarding the "Gold Classic Series", I'm fortunate enough to have two of the three sets. The F.A.O exclusive shuttle was a gift and the Falcon/Vader Tie I won in a contest on the old Galoob forums. An interesting note on this: even though the shuttle is listed in many places as an F.A.O. exclusive, I distinctly remember it being on display and for sale at our local Service Merchandise department store back in the day.

The following is a cut from http://sandcrawler.com/SWB/galoob.html and gives a bit more info on both the Balance of Power set and the Gold Series.

Hope this helps!

Oh yeah, forgot about that Falcon set.

Wow... didn't know the gold gift sets originally sold for $100... I've seen them on eBay for much less than that. They're all the same moulds as the X-ray Fleet and the JC Penney set, from what I've seen. Kinda cool...

I read that some of the Action Fleet Alpha sets were fan club exclusives. The Alpha Droid Fighter, Alpha Naboo Starfighter, and possibly a few others were exclusives, but they too found their way onto store shelves, apparently.

I guess Galoob never looked up the word "exclusive".:D
