As promised, in a slowly continuing series of polls to examine whether our readers want all the vintage figures remade for the modern collection, this week we look at the Imperial Dignitary.

Should Hasbro add a modern version of the Imperial Dignitary to our collections?

I would have to say, definatly. Though deciding how many for them to make is the problem. There are a total of 5 Imperial Diginitaries in ROTJ. But only two are really featured in the movie, the two that are talking together when Vader comes into the Emporer's Throne Room. One of these 2 were produced in the original POTF line. I think the best thing would be for Hasbro to do maybe do 1 every year, and then include 2 with the Imperial Shuttle when it's reissued. Though frankly, going by the followig picture, they can forget making the one that looks like he has a Teletubbie head hat on. Or does it look like Jonathen Winters with a nipple on his head? You make the call!! :D

I don't think 5 are necessary. The vintage one redone, definately, the other predominant dignitary would be nice, but I would not buy all 5. The 2 main ones are all we need.

How about we cut to the chase and run a poll: Should Hasbro make a modern version of ALL remaining unmade vintage figures. YES YES YES!!!
AND THEN SOME! Most of my friends agree that the classic stuff has been much closer to our hearts. I can only hope EP2 will change this.
In response to JarJar Binks, I'll have to agree with Wolfwood319. 2 Dignitaries would be sufficient. If we want to be accurate perhaps we could use a few more ewoks??
Oh, and by the way... While we are polling why not request a 12" Leia Bespin from Hasbro? I'd say Endor too but we all know they can't pass up the oportunity to use that same speederbike mold again!

Does Hasbro only have like two or three "mold" things that only allow a couple figures at a time? Why not make all of them? Why spread them out over the next 15 years? We see something like 5 new figures every 6 months or so and one vehicle or playset even less frequently. All of that foreign labor is supposed to be cheap. What's the holdup?

LOL JarJar; no, no, no. You have it backwards. It's another case of ILM fooling around like they did with ET. The Coneheads obviously made an appearance without us even realizing it! ;);)

Seriously though, he DOES bear a freakish resemblance to Jonathan Winters, he even has that little smirk...

Well Stillakid, there's a lot involved in making a brand new figure. I'll break down the requirements as well as I can (if I miss something anybody else let me know):

1: a sculpt of the figure. This is generally done by hand and is probably the single most time-consuming part . I'm including the time it takes to design the figure on paper as well as actually making wax sculpts and prototypes.

2: Create a mold. The mold is what they use on the production line to actually make the figure. It's usually aluminum and they are VERY expensive to make. We do the same thing at my buisness and you DON'T want something bad to happen to that mold, because they're usually very costly.

3: Producing the figure. Once you have the mold, you have to set up all the machines and workers on the production line to assemble, paint and package them. The problem with this is that Hasbro only has a limited number of production lines to devote to Star Wars, so I don't think they can have an unlimited number of figures being produced at once.

These are the basic steps in making the figures, but there are a whole bunch of smaller details I left out or that I don't even know about. But you can see how much time and effort it takes just to make ONE figure, much less five or six.

Actually, I'll chime in to what Stillakid said, because in theory I like it. Practically though, the end run of it has more to do with Sales.
The typical distribution problems this company and their main buyers have with Star Wars is the reason for any hold up. How much we as a group will buy goes into part of that too. In order to provide a variety of 'action scene' action figures, Hasbro would never do 5 Dignitaries all at once, especially carded, in a one-year period. The Shuttle pack-in is a good option for another one though.

Personally, I'm in total agreement with TK006 and Wolfwood. The main two Dignitaries you see later when Vader reports to Palpatine would be sufficient. I like this especially since the one never made into a figure before has become Sate Pestage in some good EU tales from Rogue Squadron. Meanwhile, some of the polls I want to do tie into themes, and this one applies to getting all the vintage figures we enjoyed in the '80's redone. A couple months back, a majority of the readers voted for Romba, and in a while longer, I'm all for looking at Crix Madine and a Red Group human B-wing pilot like we had back in the old days. There's a list of about 12 more left to do, and I'm sort of approaching them from ROTJ back to ANH and a silver Death Star Droid. There's no question that the Dignitary would be popular though.

I agree also Tycho, those two are fine. My post was meant more as a joke, I know Hasbro would probably never do all 5. Let's atleast hope that they never do Jonathan Winters. :D But yeah, the two main Dignitaries in Palpatine's Throne Room are perfect. Pack one in with the shuttle with a new cloth cloak emporer, and then the other can come on the card. :)

I agree. The two main dignitaries are all we need. Crix Madine would be great to have as well. Hopefully Hasbro will end up releasing all the old vintage figures with new sculpts. Like Tycho said, we only have about a dozen more to go. I also agree with tk006 that we need more ewoks. So far this year we will be getting paploo and teebo. Along with Wicket and Logray that we already have, that's 4 so far. Probably not that many more to go after that.

Well there are quite a few Ewoks, but a few generic ones as well as remaking the ones that appeared in the vintage line would be good. So that means we need, Chief Chirpa, Romba, Warok, and Lumat. And how about an Ewok with Imperial helmet drum set, and Mother Ewok with basket of Woklings, etc. Then maybe the fan club can do what they are doing with the Commtech Stormtroopers, just give us some generic Ewok re-paints 4-packs. Just use the best basic ewok bodies and give them new hoods and paintjobs. Would be a good way of expanding our Endor Dioramas.

I want an Imperial Dignitary but I think hasbro should just stick to the prequel figures until all of the prequel hype is over.

I was always bummed about not getting a dignitary the first time around.

I would LOVE it if Hasbro blessed us with a dignitary for the new line. Just one. With the high level of detail and attention they are putting into their current sculpting, they could do this one up right.

However, I wouldn't want them to even consider doing anything more than a roughly neutral pose on the figure. Can you imagine a dignitary in an action pose? I can hear the bones creeking/hips breaking now!

Alas, it would probably be a poor seller. Sounds like exclusive material, kind of like Wuher was at the fan club a few years back.

According to the POTF Coin: "One of the evil men who is close to The Emperor and serves as an advisor in his plans to destroy the Rebel forces." Tycho mentioned some EU story that talked about one of the Dignitaries, may wanna look into that. :D

I look at it this way. They made the Rancor Keeper, so all bets are off on who "deserves" to be made. SO I say make the vintage figures who haven't been made yet, and that includes Imperial Diginitaries.

I agree with SithDroid about Gen. Madine and some more Ewoks. Not that I like the ewoks especially, but there is so many Hasbro could do. Maybe they could release a multipack of ewoks instead of ignorant sculpts of Darth Maul with his shirt off. As for the Imperial Dignitary, he is the figure I would least like to see made. At my local stores he would be the #1 peg warmer, much like Zutton and Eeth Koth have been for the last two months. The only way I would like to see him is with the Imperial Shuttle. It will sell regardless of who it comes with and Hasbro can give the peg space to Crix Madine or a new sculpt of the Bespin gown Leia.

Jeezum Crow! They're making Endor Rebel Trooper #2 for Pete's sake! They might as well make a dignitary. He's kinda cool lookin'. As long as they don't put the picture of Sim Aloo from the SWCCG anywhere on the package. ::Shivers:: That cat is creepy lookin'.::Shivers again::

yeah, make the two dignitaries from the throne room. No need for more than that as they all look similar anyway. but those two are instantly recognisable and it would be silly to make one without the other.
Nice easy neutral stances with nice detail. No silly face colours and no gimmicks. Aren't they supposed to be force adepts or something? That's a cool reason to make them. More Imperial bad guys the better.
It'd finish off the Emperor throne room set anyway (barring a resculpt of Luke Jedi and Vader with two part removable helmet and removable hand.)

It'd be nice to see them show up at the tail end of this year to round the whole year off. But no exclusives eh? They deny so many people of the chance to get hold of stuff. make everything general release unless it's something different like the toyfair Vader. A regular figure should get a regular release.

I wouldn't mind them all with an Imperial shuttle, I'd glady pay $150 for one if it had 5 pack-ins and was improved over the vintage version, electronics and all that is. :)

Ya we are a hard to satisfy bunch arent we?? But we pay alot and expect something in return for our hard earned bucks. Oh well if someone else had this line I know they would use it better than Hasbro. My friend is big into D&D and Hasbro bought that out too and they are running that into the ground as well. They must have trained monkeys workin for them or something.:p

Jargo
03-01-2002, 03:42 PM
yup, they're the monkeys that paints the figures so badly and packs things in boxes so's ya can't get them out without ruining the packaging. the reason we don't get to see so much of the stuff is that it takes Hasbro so long to retrain the monkies to do a different task. that's the real reason behind the delay in getting the tie bomber and the snowspeeder - they had to retrain the monkies to shove things into boxes with windows after making them shove things in windowless boxes for the AOTC stuff. The poor monkies are totally confused and it's holding things up.

Yes, they should make the Imperial Dignitary. And since Hasbro loves making re-sculpts, how about a new Emperor's Royal Guard? Hey, how about a 2-pack?

Hi Rogue II! Welcome to another Rogue in the Forums.

So, a question: doesn't the new Episode 2 Chancellor's Guard figure count as a Royal Guard? Same thing, I think?

Anyone?

And by all means, I do support them making the two Dignitaries you see in the film later, when Vader reports to the Emperor's throne room.

They ARE making a new Royal Guard as they are featured in AOTC. I would love to see the Dignitar(y/ies) made only because the original one was so horrid. They aren't the greatest looking characters, but I think that the modern sculpting processes would help out this otherwise lacklustre looking character.

We're getting not one, but two of these guys made now!

I'm continuing to check our progress on getting the last of the Vintage figures redone while the Cloud Car Poll is running, inclusive of options for its pilot(s).

Woo-hoo! We're finally getting both Imperial Diggies! Add to that the new Throne Room Vader, the new Emperor Palpatine and the third face sculpt for the Imperial Officer. That's five reasons for me to pick up one of them KB Imperial Shuttles!:)
