View Full Version : Would You Buy The Twin Pod Cloud Car Vehicle?

I'm going to start a new thread series.

This will discuss ONLY the vehicle in the title of the thread (in this case the Twin Pod Cloud Car from ESB).

I will cover several unmade vehicles for the action figures per week, choosing them from a rotating schedule through the movies and the Expanded Universe (I guess - we'll see how that goes).

I'll order it TPM, AOTC, ROTS, ANH, ESB, ROTJ, EU, and then keep going back through the order in that manner.

So here I'm only asking you if you'd buy a Twin Pod Cloud Car vehicle from The Empire Strikes Back.

I envision this vehicle for the $20 price range most likely. All Hasbro really needs to do is upgrade from the vintage vehicle mold, keeping the mold in that same maroon red. I think adding pop-out missile launchers exactly as they're featured on the Geonosian Fighter will suffice. Those interested in authenticity won't see them when they are closed, though all the while kids can fire them away at Stormtroopers and bounty hunters alike.

The cockpits will hold the pilots and an ethnic variant of one might come with the ship. The landing gear can be manually brought down just as before.

For any that still haven't noticed, the Twin Pod Cloud Car does fire two shots across the Millennium Falcon's bow, so the toy can certainly shoot red missiles.

So do you want the twin pod cloud car made?

What other features would you want on it?

Why would you NOT want it?

How do you think it would sell if produced?

This is the vehicle I would most likely buy, but still a pass. I sold most of my vehicles, TIE Interceptor, TIE Bomber, AT-AT, years ago when I ran out of room. I only kept the vehicles that will fit into a scene I am setting up.

Sorry Cloud Car.

Didn't the Care Bears drive a Cloud Car?

Absolutely! My love for this vehicle goes back to the Vintage days, when it was a cornerstone of my meagre fleet of ships. I own a Vintage one and it's in good shape, though the cockpit windows are yellowing.

I've always wanted one with electronics, though. The Cloud Car has a very distinctive whine to it that I like, very Bespin-y.

A pack-in pilot is a great idea, and they could single-card one as well to boost sales. They already have a great mold for it, so why not use it?

I think Hasbro said they either lost the mold or it is broken.

I have the old one I picked up really cheap on ebay. It doesn't really thrill me that much.
I actually like the little single seat Expanded Universe one better with the little fins on it. It's sort of retro 50's rocket looking.

I can't say I'd really buy one again.

i'd buy one. never had a vintage one - but never wanted one as a kid, since the cloud car is boring and doesn't really do anything.

in the $20 range hasbro typically doesn't include pilot figures.

pop-out missile launchers would be good. the OT collectors would be able to ignore them and kids would get more "play value." integrating pop-out missiles would mean a new mold.

I've given up on most vehicles, but this is the first wholehearted YES from me in your series (not counting Slick's semi-joke about the updated Cruisemissile).

No, not interesting enough and I don't have the space for it.

Absolutely I would buy this. Losing/breaking the old mold is actually great news as it would need an update anyway. A modern paintjob, some detail on the engines (rather than just a sticker) and a complete lack of any projectiles firing from it would make it a must have for me.

I think Hasbro said they either lost the mold or it is broken.

That's fine for me. While the Vintage model was pretty cool for its day, I'd be happy with a more updated resculpt with two pilots. For anything between $20 - $30, this is something I would buy.

Yes, if it does not come with any spring launched projectiles. Arm that baby with a spring launcher, and easy pass.

Yes, absolutely. I'm more enthusiastic about this one than I have been about a few of the other choices in this thread series.

Yes, Yes YES especially since we got the cold updated version of the Cloud Car Pilot back in the first OTC wave.

Only if they really jazzed it up with a new paint job and added some really nice details. You can buy the old ones from the 80's for under 20 bucks on e-bay usually. That's what I did.

Without a doubt. Ok if they charged $100 because they packed in a bunch of repacked garbage I already have to give extra value then maybe not but otherwise yes.

Definitely! People remember this vehicle enough that it would be a good seller. With the 30th anniversary of ESB coming up, it would be the perfect time to release it.

It should have the landing gear like the vintage one did. It should also have firing missles and a paint job that includes detailed weathering. Electronics would be nice, but not necessary.

This would be perfect for the $25 vehicle range. It shouldn't have much problem selling at that price. Over $30 might be a bit tougher, but if they add electronics and alot of other details, I could see it moving at that price too.

I'd buy it.

It would be a store exclusive undoubtedly though so who knows if everyone who wanted it could actually get it. No sign of the Wedge Red 2 X-wing appearing on BBTS thus far so that one doesn't bode well for me.

I would get this one. I only have the Titanium and Action Fleet versions of this. While the Action Fleet was good enough for me with Dooku's Solar Sailor, not so with the Cloud Car. It could be done well at a reasonable scale, and we have a Cloud Car pilot that we can put it in.

I don't see why it isn't considered aggressive. In the short time we see it, it shoots at the Millennium Falcon. You can put a pilot in each pod, grab the ship by the middle section and swoosh it around.

I'd get at least 2 for the ~ 1,000,000 Cloud Car Pilots I have.

I don't see how they could improve much on the vintage mold. I had it as a kid and can recall playing with if for many an hour. A new paint job would be good, but I don't think firing missles or electronics would add much too it other than a higher price point. A retooling of the cockpits would be nice though.

Yes I would. Such a cool vehicle from such a cool movie:thumbsup:

Do you want the twin pod cloud car made?
Heck yes. I would not settle for a vintage one which is why I still don't own one.

What other features would you want on it?
Um, it doesn't have to do much.

Why would you NOT want it?
Um, maybe if it really sucked or was incredibly expensive.

How do you think it would sell if produced?
Um, it's a toss up. It would sell well because it is pretty prominent in ESB but it could be a total bust if it's too expensive and poorly executed.

Yes, I would buy this one for sure.

I haven't bought any vehicles in 4-5 years but I would buy the Cloud Car. I have two vintage ones and would like to see an updated version of it. I would prefer it not have any weird action features or spring-loaded missiles. Electronics are fine but not necessary.

I'm really surprised at the resistance to spring-loaded missiles.

On the Geonosian Fighter, the launchers are inside completely closing panels.

You cannot tell they're there by looking at the ship.

Yet kids love to shoot things. I know. I'm Still-A-Kid? (get it? :D )

And you need to appeal to that market as well to help the things sell.

Yes. Yes! YES!!! A million times, YES!!! I would most definitely love to see this. And so would a lot of other people according to this thread. I don't need anything fancy --- but if STILLAKID were to get his missiles and they were as well hidden and as cleverly concealed as he claims they would be...then I have no objection to them being included.

The Twin Pod Cloud Car DID fire on the Falcon and did actually SCARE Han quite a bit if one listens to the movie closely. He sound VERY nervous after shoots are fired... Frankly, I never truly have understood Hasbro's pure B.S. arguments that the Cloud Car is too "non-aggressive." Hello, it threatens the Falcon...

Their obvious disdain for the ship is most disappointing. It is from one of the coolest sequences in arguably the BEST film ---- and yet it's utter ignored. Also its design offers an interesting link to the later PT films in that the Cloud Car is very, very Coruscant in its design when one really looks at it.

Indeed, this would be an outstanding piece to honor the 30th anniversary of ESB.

I fit came with two figures, I would consider it.

Yep...I specifically bought two OTC Cloud Car Pilots for this very reason 5 years ago...still waiting. Was hoping for a Cloud Car with a pack-in pilot back in 2005. Hopefully there will be one next year for the 30th anniversary.

Whoa! We have a new most-wanted vehicle with the Twin Pod Cloud Car!!!

25 people said "Yes"
3 people said "No"

I think fans are giving Hasbro a mandate to update this Star Wars vehicle from Empire Strikes Back!

This beats Count Dooku's 18 votes for his Solar Sailor.

I think the vehicles are ranking thus far:

Twin Pod Cloud Car (ESB)
Solar Sailor (AOTC)
Gungan Bongo Submarine (TPM)
Rebel Blockade Runner (ANH)
Droid Gunship (ROTS)

Kidhuman

I would buy all 5 of those.

Hi all I'm new here, But couldn't not weigh in on this thread.... I'd Love a cloud Car as I missed out on one in the vintage days. I think part of its appeal is the fact that there aren't that many vehicles that hasbro can do that are truly 1/1 in scale, and this is one of them!

Although whether or not I get one would depend on the price, over here in the UK our releases of your $20 vehicle range have just increased in price. while in the past, not entirely being fair by costing a corresponding £20 here this has now increased by another £20 retailing at just shy of £40!

With an initial 26-3 win in favor of a Twin Pod Cloud Car, it's a great thing that this one is going to get made!

The vehicle looks sweet and this book is closed.
