A friend on my club's board posted something about this and I had to get more info.

http://www.topps.com/ent/brands/SWCWWide/MainPage.html

If I get a complete set for a dirt-cheap price (which is what I've done the last couple of sets) that will be great. I will buy a few packs in the store, as usual.

I echo those sentiments. But for some reason, most of the cartoon card sets seem to be flat to me.

They might be flat, but at least they are Wide this time! :)

Ah, trading card humor... why aren't there more stand-ups who specialize it that style?

I asked a friend this question over the weekend: is there going to be a promo card for this set?

My friend's in the know when it comes to trading cards and hadn't heard anything about a promo card.

Havnt heard anything about a promo card either. Keep hearing November as the actual release date for this set.

The Topps site says "In October," and if you can't trust what's on the Internet to be true, then our civilization is bound and doomed to fail.:whip: I can't wait for the trivia info. I predict the first question will be "On the wall of the clones dorm, what species of alien is on the pin-up poster?"

...

Answer? a Twi'lek, I think.

What?!?! Are you telling me what's on the Internet is not the gospel truth???

I've checked Target several times in the last two weeks and was at the comic shop last night and nada. I'll look again closer to Halloween.

Current rumor is a street date of November 11th.

And there will be 2 Retail exclusive autograph cards.

So much for October...

Hope there's room for 'em at Target. I counted 7 - 9 different football card sets on sale, as well as baseball and the assorted 'what were they thinkin'' series of cards.

Jayspawn

Theres tons of 'what were they thinkin' cards at most of my card retailers.

Count on mid-November for the CW cards actually showing up. Topps' release dates are always several weeks/a month behind schedule. Wonder who the retailer autograph exclusives will be? Hmmm...

I was at Target today and stopped by the trading card section. Nothing.

Bel-Cam Jos
11-11-2009, 10:03 AM
And I stopped by Target yesterday (which is now your "today" ) and also found nothing Star Wars-related. But I did see plenty of New Moon packs and Ben Roethecardsectionaintgotnostarwarsstuffyetberger's face on several football packs.

Looked today and nada. I was like, take some of this New Moon crap down and make some space!

My Target stores havnt received them yet. But my local (and only) card shop got them. They have tons of boxes and the packs for $2.49. Cards are pretty cool. Picked up 3 packs -didnt pull anything special.

I'll be hitting the comic shop Saturday. I might have to break down and get a pack or two.

Have been checking Targets, and found nothin' so far.

Found them!!! :pleased:

Found the retail version at two different Targets in Louisville Saturday night. $1.99 per pack.

I bought six packs. Out of the packs I bought, I got three cells, three foils and three season 2 preview cards.

These cards are nicely done, better than I expected. In addition to the basic ep storyline, some cards list changes that were made to the script. The foil cards also list which actors voiced the characters.

There's also a mail-in offer where you can get a binder and promo card (a-ha!!) for this set. If you use the code, it's $15.95, or in that neighborhood. I'm thinking about that.

Binders rock! That sounds great; I've looked for SW 3-ring holders for years, especially since CW is students-oriented.

I should head out today, then. Great haul, OC.

The offer for the binder looks like a good one -I'll get a binder for sure. They dont have it on their site yet though.

Bought four packs today from Target: got the checklist (always seem to, and I like it so I can read the card titles), 2 foil characters (Obi-Wan, Ahsoka), 1 cel (Snow clonetroopers), and 1 motion card (some Jedi starfighter). Only one duplicate card (#6). I ordered a complete set (with the 8 Season 2 previews) online, and I hope to send away for the binder set (free Widevision sleeves! :D ) soon.

Bel-Cam Jos

Their site now has a message saying the collector kit is "Coming Soon!" I wonder if that's "soon" as in "on sale on October."

In the Topps world, who knows!

Sounds like a nice haul, BC.

I buy my card sleeves from a vendor at the flea market. Cheaper than the comic shop.

BCJ and OC47150 did you guys collect the Topps Widevisions cards of Episodes 4-6 in the mid 90's? I got a set of each. Nice cards. How about the Topps Star Wars Galaxy Cards Series 1 & 2 from 1993 & 1995? Bought several boxes back then a put some sets together. Those were nice cards also. If interested in any let me know. Thanks.

I went back a little while ago and filled in the holes in those very sets, indyjones.

I find my Widevision sleeves at a local collectors' show at 6 for a buck. Not too bad a price, but I can't find them anywhere else around here (no card shops sell them here :( ).

I have those cards, Indy. I also have the 3D cards for ANH and TPM. Thanks for asking.

Rumor is, there's gonna be a 3D set for ESB and Galaxy 5 sometime next year, too.

My local shop charges $18.95 for a box of 100, so 6 for a buck isn't bad.

The current issue of Non-Sport Update has a full page color ad from Topps for the upcoming Galaxy 5, shipping January 2010. :)

I'm guessing March, at the earliest.

I almost bought a couple of packs at Target today. Almost.

I, too, have passed on packs. I guess I'm waiting until my complete set arrives.

I wonder if Topps is waiting until after Cyber Monday this weekend ends, before putting their binder deal up.

Am disappointed that the Season Two preview cards all have the same text on the back. Now, I know they might not want to truly spoiler-ize the as-yet-unfinished season, but c'mon. :upset:

I like the trivia, and the character quotes are okay. Images on the front are great; I really like WV sets.

Bought two packs of cards today. Picked up chrome R2 and a promo card.

But the card that has me puzzled is one with a silver clone trooper helment stamped in the upper right corner and some numbers stamped on the back, in silver.

Anyone else come across one of these?

Back of the pack says "Silver Foil-Stamped Parallels 1:17, Gold Foil-Stamped Parallels 1:8222." So, I'd say you beat the odds on an insert card, but not the big odds.

I ordered my binder tonight, but I couldn't use PayPal and the coupon code from a pack; I had to type in my info myself. Shipping was almost $11. :upset:

That's what I get for not looking at the packaging.

I'm gonna wait until after Christmas to order the binder.

What link are you referring to with this binder? I've not heard of this thing yet. When you buy a pack, it should include a card that has the link on it and a code for 15% off a CW 3-ring binder, 15 WV card sleeves, and a promo card. But the website is the Topps one; you should see a "news" link for the WV Clone Wars collectors set (I think that's what it's called); it runs $20 normally (plus big shipping costs, since a binder is big) before the savings.

I'd comment, but I don't even collect the cards.... [Trails off in despair.]

Sly Wiley turned and saw Disco Tusken dancing with the tauntaunwampagunganbeast. "Excuse me, but have you seen my pants?"

I hear there's a limited edition (read: 0 produced) series of those "adventures" due out this Festivus, Chux.

Anyone actually reading the card backs on this set? The pictures often don't match the text, or it's the previous card (without the "Coming Next..." type from the old ESB Topps cards) mentioned. One even had the same picture on the front AND back?!? Still, it's not a bad one to look at.

As people are building their sets, here are some extras I have, now that I own a complete set:

PV-2,PV-4,3,6,8,12,15,17,22,28,31,36,38,39,41,43,55,56,62, 63,72,78,80.

There may be more, if I decide (or am able to find) to buy more packs looking for chase cards. PM me if any of those are needed to fill holes (at no cost! ).

A friend brought the binder to our monthly meeting yesterday. It arrived very quickly, he said, in under two weeks or so.

It's a nice looking binder. The promo card isn't a true promo card, as far as promo cards. It's still a nice-looking card.

I will have to order one after Christmas.

Bel-Cam Jos

Mine came UPS today. True, the card looks just like any other regular set card, but it DOES have "B1" as its number, so it MUST be special. Binder is pretty cool (pictures on both outside covers), and big enough to add in more pages (probably the Cartoon Network CW and movie CW sets?) than the 15 "free" ones provided. For the price (if you ignore shipping), it's not too bad.

Target has those 2-pack packs like they have in the past for $3.99 (technically, it is $.01 more than if you buy 2 separate packs :p ), and there's a vertical wrapper style with three panels of hero characters instead of the giant Yoda style. So I bought one, and got a Padme animation cel. :D

Update: this was likely to be my last pack purchase, so here are the extras I have, if anyone needs them: PV2-PV6, 3, 6, 8, 11, 12, 14-17, 22, 23, 25, 28, 30, 31, 34, 36, 38-41, 43, 45, 50, 54-57, 61-63, 65, 67, 70-73, 75, 78, 80. PM me if you're interested.

SSG update: do you realize that the main SSG page has TWO news stories on the revolving images part that are about trading cards (WV Clone Wars, SWG5)? I guess some do even collect the cards, but...

I originally planned to just buy a base set and maybe a few chase cards on the aftermarket, but when I picked up the Family Guy SSS Dark Side DVD and it was $2 off, I decided to spend the savings on a pack of CW cards. I expected all commons but at least I'd have that binder insert, so I was happy to pull a Padme clear cell card! It's one of the 1:4 cards, so it's better than the 1:2 and 1:3 tiers. :)

I bought several more packs this weekend, felt foolish to do so but I was feeling the jones...I pulled a Yoda sketch card (movie style, not animated style) so that's pretty exciting. :)

I was going to order the CW-exclusive binder from Topps. Went through the process but Topps wanted $10 (!!) for postage. It was UPS, and the USPS wasn't even an option. I passed. I can get my $2 binder at WM and that will do suffice, thank you.

I also passed on the $12 shipping for me. It was UPS ground. no binder is worth $32. The only problem I'm having is finding the plastic pages for the widevision cards.

The only problem I'm having is finding the plastic pages for the widevision cards. There's a collector show near me (in SoCal) that has them 6 for a buck, so I'd say check any card/collectible/scalper shows near you for them. Remember that you also get 15 WV pages with the Topps binder.

A friend helped me out to complete my basic card set. I also picked up several of the foil and film cell cards and a complete set of the motion cards!
