Ouch! $70 is a bit steep, I'd love to get it but that seems a bit expensive. Although I was almost about to spend a similar amount on that new Y-Wing fighter. Then I didn't but now I think that I should have because I haven't seen one again. Hrumph.

I do plan to get this, but I have a TRU by my office, so I will wait until they hit the store shelves and then I will buy.

TRU's exclusives are easy to pick up, so I don't have a sense of urgency for this one even though I am excited to get it.

I'd like to have this one, but $70 is just too high for a gunship. I didn't pay that much for my AT-TE, and considering the Lucky Lekku was only $50 at Wal-Mart last year I think the price is a little rediculous. I know there's a little retooling done to the body, but I think the big draw with this is the new doors and they just aren't worth the extra $20 over what I paid for the Lekku last year. If/when they ever clearance this down to the $30-40 level I'll consider picking it up.

I picked one up yesterday at my local TRU.
I only did it so i could make a few quickie silicone molds of the new parts so i can easily upgrade my older versions. I am, of course, assuming the new one-piece doors will fit the gap on the older versions???
I have two AOTC and one ROTS version, all MIB, and with the new slender wings i am making (http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g19/All_the_good_usernames_are_taken/Model%20stuff%20Misc/DSCF1719.jpg), they will all be more accurate eventually...(If not, i'll just sell the MIB older versions, and get more copies of the new one. Are the older versions hard to get? Would i get a decent price for them?)

Depends on which ones you've got. I haven't looked on eBay for a Gunship in a while but I'm pretty sure the most valuable one is still the "Shark" Gunship from the Tartovsky Clone Wars series. Aside from that there are three other "old" style gunships. I think the AOTC is the next most valuable and the grey one from the first Clone Wars line is probably the least valuable. Let me know how the new doors work out it would be cool if it was a quick swap. I'm especially curious to see how the front works out. The small doors seem like you'd need to modify the Gunship to make it work.

Ahh! good thinking! I totally forgot i have one each of the "Rancor mouth" gunship and Arc-170 too!!!(It's a good thing you are here, dude!)

Yeah, i have one AOTC Red canopy, one AOTC Black canopy, one ROTS Green caopy, and the Rancor mouth CW version.

I havent opened the box yet, but i expect the rear doors will pop on with no alterations(the box artwork looks like the rest of the gunship is unchanged).
The front doors look like they need a small hole drilled in the lower footwell to properly hinge. That's cool, as all i'll be doing is fitting the front "door" and glueing it in place.
I am also going to re-profile the top missile launchers to the shape they should be.
I'll post images when i open the new one.

Before you start drilling, take a second look at the forward hatch of the new Crumb Bomber Republic Gunship... I believe all Hasbro did was tool/fabricate a new insert that fits into the existing area.

I noticed this when I opened mine and if that IS the case, I plan on purchasing a second one along with a second Lucky Lekku so I can have planet side and open space versions of both.

I wasn't going to drill anyway. I was just going to make a mold of the part, and make it fit the previous hole...(Then fill any gaps).
:D
My builds are always scale models rather than toys, so i don't require the front doors to ever open again!
But i'll post pics!

Okay.
I cracked open the TRU gunship.
I have information to report.
First of all, the rear doors DO fit onto the previous model.
The differences to the main hull are fairly minor, and are just recessed "lips" for the new doors to sit on when closed. I retro-fitted the new larger doors to my 2002 version i am working on(Which i have removed the "suicide floor" and filled the hole left by it), and they fit like a dream. The pop on, and the mechanism works just like it used to.
The front doors...
The main hull has been slightly reworked to accomodate those new front hatches. There is a lip at the top on the inside to stop the new door from recessing too much into the hole, and the lower portion of the doorway has been squared off to fit the new piece(If you guys have a pre-CW Gunship handy, you will notice the "old" front hatch was rounded on the bottom).
I got out my dremel and squared off the hole on mine to fit the part, removed the location tabs on the new doors, and removed the "finger tabs" at the top with my bench sander.
Now they fit the hole better and i will be making a couple of small alterations before making a final mold of the pieces.
When cast, the pieces will not hinge(I don't need them to), and i will be glueing them in place, and filling the gap around them.
I am TOYING with the idea of getting the wings cast up...
They are the correct thickness(Not the "four times thicker than they should be" of the toy).
But till then, here are the pics.
If anyone wants to see different angles, let me know.

So are you able to make spare doors as backups, still?

Yeah. The front doors will be easy to replicate(For my own usage). I will clay them up so it will be a good bit deeper than the part supplied with the TRU gunship, so it will slip into the gap easier.
The rear doors would be harder to do...
I COULD make a mold. But i'd probably have to do them in fibreglass.
I won't discount that. But it'd be tough. And more for display than for full "toy usage"...
I will keep you posted.

I love what you did with the chin guns! Any thought about adding the side mounted bubble cannons? I notice that the fittings still leave a gap between the doors and hull.

Thanks.
The chin guns were very simple to do. Have you even seen those "chewable toothbrush" things you get in airport and fuel station restrooms? They come in a small clear two-part sphere. I bought a handful of the things because i thought they'd come in handy.
Well, when you remove the standard fit "missile launcher" chin guns, thse ones fit right in the gap. The BEST part is that i put a neodymium magnet in each one before closing it up. THEN i glued a neodymium magnet to each cannon barrel. The ball doesn't swivel, but the barrel does. it's held in place by the free-floating magnet inside. And the barrel can be completely removed for transport, and it'll always just pop back on to the magnet held inside the sphere.

As for the bubble turrets, i am of the opinion that's what the little round items on the front door covers are for(I think when they redesigned the rear doors to completely cover the gap, they NEEDED a new hardpoint for the bubble turrets. I think that's what those front parts are. A permanent hardpoint for bubble turrets. We just haven't seen it used in the series... Yet...
But, i once made a set of bubbles for the gunship more in scale with the rest of it.
Here are some pics with 1/24 Gi Joes from the sigma six line(I will dig those turrets out and replace the Sigmas with better figures in the next few days):

Okay.
I have clayed up the front door pieces in one mold box. This way, i can cast at least one set for my "hero" Gunship(And for every one of my other gunships).
The pieces are in silicone and the mold will be cured tomorrow morning. When i have castings i can show, i will post pictures.
I don't have enough silicone to make molds of the rear door pieces. But it's cool. Right now i only need the one set(Which i got for the bargain price of 40 by buying the new gunship...), but any replacement sets for my other gunships will have to wait till i get more silicone.

Here's my little gripe.

What's with the "lmost totally black" cockpit window piece? I tried and i could see through it...
Way to go Hasbro...

The pieces are pored in acrylic resin no?
Do you plan on actually "forcing" it to 1/24 (I know there's nothing you can do to the model but it looks so much more "proper" with the Sigma 6 guys in there

Thank you, Sir.
It shouldn't be too long, with all the parts in place now.

I think it's a urethane resin, but i'm not 100% on that. Anything that will fill the mold and hold the original detail is fine.

Lol!
Yes. The Gunship is proportional, but NOT 1/18, so i AM "re-scaling" it...
It's a bit closer to 1/32, but the Sigmas were always ONLY FOR SCALE. I never intended to use them for the final look. I am moving mine closer to 1/24, and will be using figures in that range.
I am using the pilot from the Hasegawa Falke model kit (http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g19/All_the_good_usernames_are_taken/PK%20424%20Bussard/DSCF2199.jpg)as the Pilots/Gunners.
Here is an image of one (http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g19/All_the_good_usernames_are_taken/Model%20stuff%20Misc/IMG00230-20091017-1659.jpg)in a clear two-piece bubble (http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g19/All_the_good_usernames_are_taken/Model%20stuff%20Misc/IMG00231-20091017-1659.jpg). And with the Gunship (http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g19/All_the_good_usernames_are_taken/Model%20stuff%20Misc/IMG00232-20091017-1700.jpg)to show the scale.
I am also about to start work on a properly proportioned Arc-170. The main body is fine, but i will be making new wings and engines properly in scale with the body, and i will be using (http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g19/All_the_good_usernames_are_taken/Model%20stuff%20Misc/IMG00233-20091017-1705.jpg)these same figures (http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g19/All_the_good_usernames_are_taken/Model%20stuff%20Misc/IMG00234-20091017-1706.jpg) as the pilots (http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g19/All_the_good_usernames_are_taken/Model%20stuff%20Misc/IMG00235-20091017-1706.jpg)with some minor (http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g19/All_the_good_usernames_are_taken/Model%20stuff%20Misc/IMG00236-20091017-1706.jpg)modifications.

Killer man, quite a project but you will have one heck of an excellent looking piece when it's finished, I have built and modified enough model kits to appreciate the work you're putting in to "perfect" the thing- it's kind of funny that the crew is going to be the most "difficult" (as in the most futzing required overall) part of the whole project, but usually it is the finishing details that make up the bulk of a project so it's not too surprising

And I know the Sigma Six guys were placeholders, but the size of the figures really gives the gunship a lot more "heft" than it has with 3 3/4" figs (I always thought it was a lot smaller than it "should" be and seeing the comparison made it obvious as to why)

Urethane resin is fine too, I am also of the "what do I have that'll do what I need" school, materials get used as-needed and not to any sort of specification or manifest (I have found SO many uses for dry-wall compund in scenic bases I could write a fat pamphlet at the least) I was just curious is you were working against potential shrinking of the parts (which is a MASSIVE headache)

Any plans to add LEDs or anything, there'll be plenty of places to hide wiring and a power supply if you were so inclined...

And Sigma Six making anything look good is still pretty funny to me- can't wait to see this thing finished!
:beard: Iso&Baws&Topes

Thanks.
No plans to add LEDs to this one.
Way back when i originally tore apart a MIB AOTC gunship to do this, i removed all the screws and tried to pop the thing apart. They used a glue with this thing which made it almost impossible to get apart.
I had to just use brute strength to remove the pieces i didn't want(The "speeder bike rack" and the drop down floor, plus the clear "foot thing" on the rear underside which i have no idea what it is).
In retrospect, i suppose i should have scribed out the rear door too...
But i didn't.
Maybe with the next build.
If i do another one, i will probably mold the big side doors too. And when i do, the first copy from the mold will be chopped so it opens correctly like the cartoon (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuANW83Zzik).

Just got one today. It was the last one they had at TRU, and the new price was not on display so I figure that's why it was still left. The cashier confirmed the 49.99 price with a scanner. A great deal in my book, this is my first gunship and it's bigger than I thought it would be. I think the amount of missiles outdoes the AT-AE. Looks great with clones inside and has a cool diorama backdrop of Geonosis.

That's cool. I'm still debating whether I want to make resin casts of the ring that was in the TRU exclusive set a few years ago and just try to paint it for all of my various fighters. It's the reason I didn't buy more of the various paint designs when they were out, I figured they'd rerelease with the rings eventually.

Thanks.
I came up with the design myself.
It was the answer to the question of: "What would the 'newly created' Darth Vader use as a vehicle for his nefarious Jedi Hunts around the galaxy?"
I envisioned a "souped-up ETA-2" with a slightly re-designed hyperdrive dock. I also wanted to get a bit of the Imperial Star Destroyer look about the fighter...
The ship has no markings to tie it to the Imperial government, but it has some telltale design cues which point ahead to the TIE and the X-1.
I made the ship to detach from the dock via magnets, and the R2 unit has a collar with weapons(So it can defend the hyperdrive in orbit while Vader is off killing Jedi on the surface).
There are bluescreen images here (http://s52.photobucket.com/albums/g19/All_the_good_usernames_are_taken/?start=all)(The first pic is of the guy who i built it for).
My favorite image was a bluescreen composite of Vader on the hunt (http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g19/All_the_good_usernames_are_taken/Misc%20junk/KG_VADERS_REVENGE-001B.jpg)...

I will try to remember to take some tonight and post tomorrow.

Thanks for that!
I look forward to those!

BTW, the Delta 7B DOES fit into the Hyperspace Ring.

Too bad the Eta 2 doesn't fit.

Yeah. The Eta-2 had a totally different docking design (http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/3/3e/HyperdriveRing_ICS.jpg).

As promised, here are the pics of the Hyperspace Ring from 2008's TRU Exclusive Obi Wan JSF w/Hyperspace Ring on the Delta 7B.

I took pictures of all three JSF's that have been released so far (Ahsoka, Anakin, and Obi Wan).

Nice!
Thanks for those pics!
It's nice to know the 7B will fit into my new 1/18 hyperdrive.
Those 7bs are cool too.
Looks like those canopies are all smoked...
Which one is the closest to a "normal" colour?

You're most welcome!

They fit perfectly, although there are two missles on the top that need to be removed before linking them up.

The canopies are all smoked/tinted/clouded (not really my thing, but they're still fun ships).

The closest to "normal" would be Obi Wan's starfighter. The coloring is very close to the original Delta 7.

I just meant what was the most "unobstructed canopy". I should have been more clear in my wording.
That's all good to know. Thanks again for the pics. Handy to know the hyperdrive ring fits the new ones(If i can ever get my hands on another one!!!).
I scaled the AOTC Jedi starfighter today for the first time(I never bothered before), and it scales out to 1/20.
Which means it's almost perfect for another model series i build.
All it needs is an accurate canopy. It's the one thing that always bothered me: Why Hasbro got the Delta-7 canopy so wrong??? It would have been a very nice replica if only for that one thing!
I once sculpted a new canopy master (http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g19/All_the_good_usernames_are_taken/Model%20stuff%20Misc/various38.jpg), but there was no demand for copies...
Here's the new one(On the right), against what the toy looks like (http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g19/All_the_good_usernames_are_taken/Model%20stuff%20Misc/jedistarfighterpropercockpitdetail.jpg)(On the left).

I'm gonna say that all around, the Obi Wan is the most normal version, including the canopy. It's not very obvious in my pictures, but that canopy is the least cloudy and doesn't have as much of a colored tint like Ahsoka's and Anakin's.

Sweet.
I might pop to my local TRU store and pick one up.
