View Full Version : Would You Buy Mara Skywalker's Jade Shadow Vehicle from NJO?

I have started a new thread series.

This will discuss ONLY the vehicle in the title of the thread (in this case Mara Skywalker's Jade Shadow from The New Jedi Order comics and novels).

I will cover several unmade vehicles for the action figures per week, choosing them from a rotating schedule through the movies and the Expanded Universe.

I'll order it TPM, AOTC, ROTS, ANH, ESB, ROTJ, EU, and then keep going back through the order in that manner.

So here I'm only asking you if you'd buy Mara Skywalker's Jade Shadow from The New Jedi Order comics and novels?

This is a Soro-Suub Horizon-Class star yacht given to Mara Jade-Skywalker by Lando Calrissian to replace her Jade Sabre which was destroyed on Dantooine. (Picture below).

I wanted to move off NJO and poll further back in the Expanded Universe for this poll, but when I originally looked at the Jade Sabre I just thought that ship wasn't as impressive as this one. (Luke gave the Sabre to his wife, but as we know, Lando has better taste.)

This ship could be made for probably the $70 price range. It can be way off scale but hold a cockpit for 2 figures (pilot and co-pilot) and maybe have space for 2 or 4 figures in the back in a cabin like the Imperial Shuttle's, so at least R2-D2 can come along for the ride, but perhaps also the Jedi Apprentices like Jaina and Jacen Solo.

I think the ship should fire missiles from its weapons, maybe 2 or 4 of them, and that should be about it. Mold it in plastic the color of the Queen's Royal Starship, and it would be very cool.

Do you want this made?

Would you spend $70 for something like this? Less, if Hasbro made it even more off-scale and cheaper?

Do you generally dislike the Expanded Universe or feel the movies are all you have the time for? Did you buy the Republic Fighter Tank?

How do you think the Jade Shadow would sell if produced?

Ew, that thing is hideous, no way.

Heck no, that looks more like Star Trek than Star Wars.

Looks dull. What's with the carpy designs for NJO vehicles that seemed pretty cool in the books?

I'd much rather have a Z-95 (that thing is way overdue!) or the Lady Luck.

They're never going to make it, and I'm never going to ask them to.

Actually, I'd go Battlestar Galactica here.

Well Tycho and I have talked about the Lady Luck (and SorroSuub 3000's in general) and figured that you could do a paint variant and get the Jade's Fire too. Plus, the Z-95 was a one shot deal that people have fixated on. Plus, if you really read it's not much more than a cockpit, a bunk/sleeping cabin, and a cargo pay that they load a Stealth X into.

They're never going to make it, and I'm never going to ask them to.

I'll ask. I figure they can't make it any worse than the Royal Starship. It's also the ship that has been used more in a longer time arc and continues to serve as Luke and Ben's home.

I'm a New Republic/NJO/Legacy of the Force/Jedi Exile era ***** (like Slicker's Mom, except paid). I have no problem admitting it. :lipsrsealed:

Come to think of it, if the Z-95 was supposed to be the prototype/forerunner of the X-Wing, why hasn't it showed up in Clone Wars yet?

Oh yeah--it's so simple, they've had trouble figuring out how to badly animate it. :D

Nope, even if they added all kinds of bells and whistles.

The Z-95's were in use during the old Han Solo Adventures era, so I'm saving that one for a while.

The Lady Luck and Chiss Clawcraft are some other EU vehicles from around this era which we will be able to poll for. The Wild Karrde will be looked at further into the chronology's past, as well as the Pulsar Skate.

I want to also cover more Imperial vehicles like the Phantom TIEs, TIE Defenders, and bounty hunter vehicles like The Hound's Tooth, Punisher-One, IG-2000, Myst Hunter, and enemy ships like Xizor's Virago and Guri's Stinger. All in due time.

Character-driven vehicles like these: Cade's (polled for) and now Mara's, are probably good bets, as are fleet builders, but the Yuuzhan Vong's corral skip fighters sure didn't impress. I'm betting the TIE-types will do better.

Be patient, an EU poll is about every 7th poll in this series though. The movie's take priority. But the OT movies are running out of options and I'm checking for interest in re-releases in some cases.

ROTS is the worst-faring PT movie. Really curious. TPM and AOTC have had 2 winners each already (MTT, Radiant VII (sneak preview of results), and Dooku's Solar Sailor, Separatist Shuttle (another sneak peak at results).

That's because, if you take away a few unique aliens and vehicles that have been produced are are shortly forthcoming, ROTS is just a bunch of previously-seen outfits, Clonetroopers in assorted flavors. Oh, and Padmes, but Hasbro will never believe us when we say we want Padmes.

Nope. EU vessels don't strike my fancy. to lay out that much cash, i want to have seen it onscreen.

Well an option would be to make the Jade Shadow in the $20 vehicle price point.

The Republic Fighter Tank holds 3 figures and fits that assortment.

The Jade Shadow would be extremely underscale, but we'd at least have it.

However, this plan did not at all work well for the Sith Infiltrator!

Not to jump the gun but the ROTS vehicle at the top of my list is the speeder Anakin uses to get to Padme's before leaving for Mustafar. It's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it ship but it looks pretty cool.

I'll get to that one, DarkJedi5. There does seem to be a more in-demand Ep3 vehicle that we'll poll for when that movie comes up again.

I'd get this one if they had a nicely done Mara Jade packed in.

this is a tricky one because I actually do like the look of the ship but know that Hasbro would never seriously be able to do it justice. I mean it order for the ship to be really cool the cargo area would have ot be larger enough to hold both a modified Z-95 Headhunter (Mara's starfighter) as well as an X-Wing starfighter.

while i would love to see the ship be made, i'd say I'd pass due to the fact that I know Hasbro would never be able to pull it off

By the time Mara gets this ship, she doesn't have a Z-95. She has a Stealth X, just like Luke. Does anyone else but me understand that the Z-95 hasn't shown up anyplace else but Heir to the Empire???

It was in the roleplaying game back in the 1980s and was made into a Micro Machine, at least. I believe it's cameoed other places (the type of ship, not Mara's per se), so it's got some pedigree as one of the oldest EU ships around. It also just looks cool.

In the Han Solo Adventures (5 years prior to when we meet Han in the cantina in ANH) Han flies Z-95s to defend smugglers and outlaw techs who do custom modifications to starships (like the Falcon) to equip them with illegal weapons, smuggling hatches, cloaking devices, etc. (Han was interested in the Falcon's tech's daughter)

Sorry for not being clear, I'm talking about Mara/Z-95 link. I know the Z95 shows up there, in the X-Wing/TIE fighter/X-Wing Alliance games etc. My bad on no clarity.

I'm talking the people who still equate Mara with flying a Z-95 after she was blown out of one in Heir to the Empire...Why does it make sense to make a ship from 20+ years later in the time line and equip it with a fighter she has only been associated once, and in the same series where the ship in question flies a different class of fighter, etc...Also, in the next Thrawn trilogy book, it's pretty clear that Mara is more familiar with transports/freighters than fighters. She's shown up in more books and short stories with the Jade's Fire than she did with a Z-95 is the bottom line (and twice as many places with the Shadow and Saber than the Fire etc).

If when the Z-95 question comes up, yes the answer is. It has its place in the historical pantheon of EU ships.

I really hope they make the Z-95.
I've been looking for something to showcase my Mara Jade figure with.:crazed:

No, looks kinda tubby for a figure-based ship. Maybe as a Titanium, but nothing more than that.

my bad on bringing up the Z-95 issue with the Jade Shadow, I was thinking of Mara's first ship the Jade's Fire which held her Z-95.. regardless if they did make either version of the ship it would still need to be large enough for me at least to be able to store either a Z-95 or X-Wing or Stealth X-Wing in the cargo hold.

I could see this ship as both a Titanium if done right, and if Hasbro ever decided to redo the Action Fleet line.

Actually, this ship reminds me of a Nubian design ("What's a Nubian?" comments aside).lol While I like those designs, this one doesn't do much for me. Tycho, I know I usually have several ideas for these ships in these polls, but I am turning a blank here. It seems like one could cut off the back half of a Naboo cruiser and affix a rollbar and that would be pretty close. While these polls are fun brainstorming, we do have to be realistic as to what could and could not get made. Clone vehicles, ships that that could be troop builders in themselves, and ones that could be repainted at least two times are the ones that should be looked at. I would like to see how the SPHA-T, LAAT/c, and the transport from the original CW animated series might fare.

The Jade Shadow loses big time: 3 (yes) 10 (no).

Thus far the poll winners are:

AOTC Dooku's Solar Sailor 18-13
ANH Rebel Blockade Runner 14-11
ESB Twin Pod Cloud Car 26-3
ROTJ Jabba's Sailbarge 26-2
TPM Droid Army MTT 16-4
ANH Lars Family Landspeeder 10-6
TPM Republic Cruiser Radiant VII - 9-5
AOTC Separatist Shuttlecraft 8-3
ANH Dash Rendar's Outrider 9-6

Yes, you are correct that no vehicle from ROTS or the Expanded Universe has yet placed.

Demand for this ship has never manifested itself. I can't say that I care. The Jade Shadow wasn't high on my priority list.

Still, it'd be cool if a lot of the main characters, or "b-players" as they were, got their own ships made.
