View Full Version : I have, in my hands, the Outrider and Nebulon B Frigate

That's right, the last 2 Titanium Series entries (hopefully I can retract that "the last TS" claim soon). They came from HTS.

The Outrider is a mixed bag. Let me start off by saying it's quite big, impressively so for a Titanium. But there's only the top gun, the bottom one is missing, replaced with the stand hole. The top gun rotates and is easily removed, I think if you bought a second you could put it into the stand hole but it might take some trimming. More importantly though, Hasbro chose the 1 Outrider source art that falls short, they went with the Essential Guide art which has a bigger rear half and thin rear cockpit arm. To make matters worse, they added a little more length to the cockpit arms, a little more bulk to the front arm and the rear half, and completely forgot to sculpt an engine opening so they had to paint it over the bumpy shapes. The top half is metal while the bottom is plastic. Paint is pretty detailed, oddly they then added paint weathering but it's brushed perpendicular to the angle of flight so the brushed wear lines don't make any sense. It's nice to see they tried, I don't dislike it, but I wish it was better, I wish it was perfect, it isn't the home run it should have been.

That home run luckily and surprisingly was hit by the Nebulon B though. Proving that this ship could only be done right in metal, the entire ship minus the drop down of the front end and some greebles in the back is metal with a nice selection of little details. There are a couple small blank spots towards the back on top, but largely this thing is covered with shapes and blends nicely into the plastic. It's pretty big and hefty too. Although painted darker than I would expect, it looks good and has a little extra paint details here and there. The only real drawback for my tastes is the short metal cylinder sculpted into the midsection that makes up the stand hole, it's right on the narrow part of the body so it stands out, but where else was it going to go? All in all, this one delivers so much better than most of the Hasbro designs on the Titanium Series concept, so it's nice to go out with one that not only is for the fans of the line but also nails everything it's trying to do.

Sounds good JT, the Nebbie looks most impressive in the pics.

I've just ordered the Outrider, Punishing One, Malevolence, and Neb-B which will all hopefully be here by next week :)

I saw the Neb-B in person at SDCC, but didn't get as good a feel for it as it is in hand. It really is a charmer.

Good luck getting your haul quickly.

Good news... Could you answer this for me (post from another thread):

Anybody else have an Outrider yet? I just got one, and was disappointed to see that the top half of the ship is sort of warping up and away from the bottom half at the thrusters...maybe not warping, but the halves don't fit together perfectly so there is a slight gap toward one side of the thrusters. I think maybe this is because the top half is plastic and the bottom is metal, but I could be wrong about that (I don't open mine).

I would like to know if anyone else has the same "defect". If they are all like that then I guess there isn't anything to do about it, but if they are not then I might try to pick up another from HTS or in a store.

Nice get, DW! My Outrider and Nebski are in the post too, thanks to DM.

I agree JT... the weird perpendicular wash looks a bit odd, and they really messed up the engines. At least the engines are at the back so they won't be too apparent on the shelf for most folks.

Didn't know that the bottom hull was resin... do the halves line up flush, or is there a gap? I saw a few that didn't look too tight.

They're both pretty nice tools for Hasbro to go out on, IMO.
I guess they finally listened to us and gave us what we wanted... like a cigarette before a firing squad.:D

I have 2 of the Outrider, one to keep sealed and the other open. I can see that there is some variance on the right side of the thruster area, but it's very slight on mine, measurable only in microns I'd guess.

I don't see any seam that I'd call problematic from top to bottom, nothing more than the seam on many other Titaniums.

The funny thing is that they had forgotten about the Outrider, if we hadn't reminded them in Q&A at juuuust the right time, we'd never have gotten it.

Good, I'm glad the seams are tight. Cheers.

Yeah, we did whinge and whine a lot about that Outrider, huh? Hey, whatever works! Fight the Power!
I think the same is true for the Nebby, too. Shame our protestations about the Basestar didn't work in time to bring it back from oblivion, too.

Hmm. Well my gap is at least 1 mm wide... Looks like I better hunt down another while I still can.

Sort of. They never listened to the Acclamator/Republic Assault Ship idea and instead made ships barely anyone had heard of let alone seen before. :(

It only felt like a lot of complaining, we actually asked only 2 questions about it total, the second one I asked about in person in July of '08, they had to get back to me for a definitive answer and luckily that was right within the timeline for... NOW! Talk about fortuitousness.

I think we asked about the Neb B and they confirmed it with us already into the planning stage. But I've been told that our tone and drive with TS was somewhat instrumental in getting as much as we did, and we can take a little credit for how long the line lasted.

Dang, a 1mm gap is certainly noticeable. If you contact Hasbro customer service soon, they may have a replacement for you, but they won't be able to guarantee it. Worth a shot though, returning it isn't an option. Or maybe you might try unscrewing it, seeing if there's any plastic or metal flash inside, clearing it, and screwing it back together.

Darth Duranium
11-06-2009, 03:39 PM
Twice? Really? I'm sure we asked about the Outrider a number of times... remember it was M.I.A. for a couple of years running... but if you say so...:lipsrsealed:

I'm glad that we got as many tools as we did... I thought the line was dead in the water last year. A harbinger, I guess.

I think we kept the line in Hasbro's mind a lot... we were always vocal and upset when they didn't show them at Toyfare etc.. We kept pushing for new tools, that's for sure. I think that Hasbro was genuinely sad to end the line... overall, it was a great line for collectors (not kids) and the product was quite good.

It's hard to imagine that we'll never see another small SW ship from Hasbro... they've got 90 tools in the can, after all.

JediTricks
11-06-2009, 03:47 PM
Yeah, I counted all of the Outrider questions, only 2 that fit the criteria, plus 1 more nagging after it was actually confirmed (we used it to make a point about other vehicles) but that's not the same thing.

Well, never say never, they said in Q&A that they're trying to make that hiatus not permanent and we should know by early next year if it will be.

The circle is now complete! The Outrider and Neb B arrived today!!!! Time to party down and sing "Yub Nub" with my Ewok pals.:D

A massive thanks again to Darth Morpheus for shipping these babies up to me... he was instrumental in helping me get ALL of the ships in the last couple of waves and it is GREATLY appreciated, to say the least. An awesome dude in every way! Cheers, mate!

Happily, I got a nice Outrider with a tight fit and lightly applied wash... I am quite happy with it, though I agree that the engines don't look well-sculpted. The cockpit (!), intake ports, and general detailing are all pretty damn sharp, IMO. Very nice size... glad this one made it out!

The Nebulon B is very nice too... quite amazing what they can do with (mostly) metal! It is surprisingly big and weighty... nice detailing, too. My only
issues with it are the way it leans forward (not well balanced) on the stand, and the aforementioned stand hole. They should have sculpted a little Millennium Falcon in the same spot (or a little closer to the bow) and put the stand into that. Still though, a very solid ending to the Titanium Series, methinks.

What the hell am I gonna collect now? I'm gonna miss this line a lot.

Congrats on the get.

I never thought to try these on their stands.

Darth Duranium
11-14-2009, 05:56 PM
Maybe I should collect subatomic particles, JT... cheaper that way, assuming I can borrow the CERN or Tevatron for free.:D

I swapped out the tall stand that came with the Neb and replaced it with another tall stand that came with the Virago. The angle of the clear stem is a little different... slightly more vertical. Doesn't droop forward any more!

Sounds good DH :)

I have my Neb-B, Outrider, and Malevolence on my way to me now which is great, but the e-store I bought from didn't get the Punishing One in (even though they were told they would be)

On the other hand, I've just bought about 20 Titaniums from another e-store who have a sale on - pretty much every Titanium from earlier waves plus the Indy Titaniums are $3 AUD each!!!

Grabbing a few extra Obi-Wan CW fighters (one to love, one to modify to Ashoka's), plus a few CW Venators to paint up as Command Ships (ie red bridge). Also got a spare Headhunter to paint as a Republic fighter, a Neimodian shuttle to try and get retracting landing gear on, a CW AT-TE - the list goes on, and all with free shipping :D:D:D

Truly, collectors are a pernickity lot. If you didn't grab your subatomic particles MOMC during the first femtosecond after the Big Bang, they're just not considered exotic enough. :D

Yeah DW, I thought it was weird that they'd skip the Gunship and get the Punishing One... they were both in the same wave revision. Great timing on the news, huh? Good grief!

Nice get, DW. 20! That's a lot!

I've got 3 Indys... $3 is a little on the high side, I'd say.;) Hell, they're still warming the pegs around here...

Amazing deal.... an Aussie e-store, I take it. I bought an extra JSF for an Ashoka paintjob, too. I was thinking of doing a Red Guard TIE Defender, if I ever find another one. Might have to try your Command Ship mod, too... good idea. Make sure you post up some pics!

Yeah the Indy Titaniums didn't seem to do so well. Actually the whole Indy line in general didn't seem to do so well.

The store is an Aussie e-store, yeah. Called Casefresh.com and they have a christmas sale on at the moment. Aside from all of the extra Titaniums I bought (I love the Venator and Obi's CW fighter) I also picked up a few heavily reduced Star Trek figures. Grabbed the Captain Picard w/Ent-D Command Chair for AUD$9.50 to go next to my Ent-D model; and a Captain Kirk figure with electronic Command Chair for AUD$19.50 to go next to my electronic original series Enterprise.

Will definately be taking pics when this load arrives here. I'm thinking of maybe making another big order (since they're so cheap) and giving the Titaniums (the good ones) to things like the Kmart Christmas Appeal or donate them to charities that give presents to kids with parents who literally can't afford any.

Well just received my Malevolence, Outrider, and Neb-B.

Malevolence is good but not great, nice enough though. My Outrider has a bit of wash but not too bad, and the gap between the top and bottom is barely noticable and lined up perfectly, so all good. :) Verrrry impressed with the Neb-B though. Must admit I wasn't thrilled...at all... when Hasbro announced this one, but I'm a definate convert now :)

The Neb and the Outrider are the only ones I haven't found yet at retail.
All of the new Titaniums I see showing up have all been at Target and no where else.
Found the Malevolence, Punishing 1, and new Gunship there the other day.

The Neb-B only showed up here in Australia via two e-tailers. One sold out pretty well instantly (I'm talking 20-30 minutes), and the other completely pre-sold out their stock of Neb-B's.

Popular little ship.

I am still looking for the Nebulon B escort vessel. If someone finds another one, errrr JT, please PM me. Seems like this one might be a pain in the *** to find.

On a side note, I noticed HTS has a funny picture. Someone posed the clone wars y-wing titanium in the wrong direction!! hehe :D

Since Wave 11 is the last wave...

...I ordered 2 cases of it from Entertainment Earth.

I received them last Monday, and opened one case of 12 up...they are PRETTY! :D I was just glad to finally get the Outrider, but I like my old pewter one better :-)

I have no place to display them, so I am keeping the other case closed. Interestingly enough, the boxes are both marked W9R1 (as in Wave 9, Revision 1) or something to that effect. They were both factory sealed and one still is, but I had to open one case to make sure I got the right ships!

Truly it is the end of an era! The only Titanium of merit I am missing is the Kara Thrace "Starbuck" Viper Mark II. The rest of the line I have at least 1 of- two before last summer but since then I cannot guarantee it.

Titaniums are dead- LONG LIVE TITANIUMS!

Now if they had been cheaper- like $4 or so- the line would have lived...and if Hasbro could have decided on a package design (lol). Just my opinion there.

I'll be in now and then- I won't be taking inventory on my collection for a while to see what I am missing since I know I have 1 of each- duplicates in any shape in this line are easy to get.

The most valuable, IMHO, will be the Outrider and the Frigate, as well as the other 498 Gold Star Wars Celebration 2 X-Wings out there (I have 2- one in baggy, one out, so with 500 in existence I know there are 498 still out there). The Toy Fair Gold Vader Tie package variant may be worth a lot, too.

The most obscure will be the Gold Ships sold with the Transformers toys (Falcon and TIE Fighter), and probably the Wave 4 5-pack from Wal-Mart (which barely hit retail)...

...I've been out of the loop so long it's silly- and I'll miss the line. Hopefilly filling in the holes from the last year or so (the dupes to open) will be fun enough :)

TITANIUMS ARE DEAD! LONG LIVE TITANIUMS!

Is the frigate stand different from other stands?

Well it's nice yes, but also sad. It's the end of the titaniums and whilst my wallet celebrates, I'm going to miss the line just like when the old Micro Machines lines went down. :(

At least we still have alternatives though, so not all is lost. I have to say though, I'm still completely in love with the new Gunship. I thought I'd hate the thing after seeing pics, but I just can't leave it alone!

I really like the new Gunship, too... especially the front guns. Just wish it had ball turrets like the DA.

I found in the rubble that is my life my barely-opened TS Rogue Shadow, and I must admit I was too harsh on it the first time around. The detail is pretty close, paint too. I think my distaste was the lack of sculpted detail on the sides.

I dunno, messing with that and a few others that were handy, I don't get the feeling that TS is really done. There's not much else to do, but Clone Wars has been adding some cool new ships and I think Hasbro will want to capitalize on that.

Well just off the top of my head they still have:

- Banking Clan Frigate
- Commerce Guild Destroyer
- Republic Assault Ship/Acclamator
- Republic Light Cruiser (CW)
- Armed Republic Cruiser (Ep1/CW)
- Ashoka's CW Jedi Starfighter
- Plo Koon's CW Jedi Starfighter
- Armed Trade Federation Shuttle
- Republic Artillery (CW)
- Geonosian Fighter
- Dooku's Solar Ship thingy

I originally thought the Rogue Shadow looked like a robot vacuum cleaner, but it grew on me, too. Curiously, it's one of the rarest Titaniums released... very pricey these days.

I hope you're right JT... maybe we'll see more Titaniums when/if they do the live-action TV show. They've got all those tools so it seems very possible that the line might be resurrected someday.

Well just off the top of my head they still have...

How about a Naboo Yacht, too? Or some Coruscant speeders? Would be nice. Maybe they could put Boxing Kangaroo flags on 'em! :D

Well funny you mention the flag, when my family and I were in Paris in 2000, there was a kangaroo road sign (a legit one) hanging underneath one of the bridges over the Seine (sp?) :D

But yes:
- Coruscant speeders
- Fireship
- UT-AT
- Obi-Wan on Boga
- Anakin on Speederbike
- Dooku on Speederbike

Actually that gives me an idea. What about an 'Order 66' theme? You could have
- ARC-170
- Plo Koon's Jedi Starfighter
- Obi-Wan on Boga
- AT-TE
- Stass Allie on BARC Speeder
- BARC Speeder

Hehehe yeah, there was a kerfuffle about that flag at the Vangroovy Olympics... some yutz from the IOC tried to suppress the boxing roo at the Aussie Olympic dorms. :D I'm sure you heard all about it. Not the most dignified logo, methinks ....but it sure is scrappy! BTW, what the hell are the Aussies doing at the Winter Olympics? Too bloody cold for Antipodeans.
Funnily enough, we've got a Kangaroo Crossing (fake) roadsign on our fridge... my Aussie pal always sends me cheesy stuff like that.

A fireship would be awesome... in one of the DA magazines, there's great pics of them that cause me to hyperventilate. A very nice design... might not be impossible to make a custom.

Darth Windu
02-11-2010, 01:47 AM
Well see the Boxing Kangaroo is special to us Aussies, because it was the flag flown by the sailing vessel that took the Americas Cup away from the Americans for the first time. :) Also part of the spirit of Australia - a national emblem showing it'll fight, so all good for us.

Definately heard about the story, and the Aussies refusing to take it down. Why should they? Geez it's used at sporting events worldwide whenever there are Aussies.

As for the winter Olympics sure we're not the most suited to it - for example, it's NEVER even come close to snowing where I live, but we won two gold medals at the 02 games I think. One of them was fate. Steven Bradbury was a speed skater near the end of his career. This is how it happened:

He won his heat easily. All good, onto the quarter finals when he's set against the yank Apolo Anton Ohno (gold medal favourite) and Canadian world champion Marc Gagnon, with only the top two going through. Bradbury comes third, but then Gagnon is disqualified for impeding another racer, so Bradbury is elevated to second and through to the semis.
In the Semis he's way behind when three racers, including the defending Olympic champion, crash, giving Bradbury second spot and through the finals.

In the final he's getting his butt kicked, when on the final corner of the race EVERYONE except Bradbury crashes, with Bradbury coolly cruising over the line to take the gold medal! One of the most bizarre yet awesome runs of luck I've ever seen.

Darth Duranium
02-11-2010, 05:49 AM
I thought it was typical of the Olympics that some technocratic wiener from the IOC would object to it and order it to be taken down. Nothing annoys me more than political correctness, especially when NO athletes complained. I'm curious how the story played in the Aussie media. It's well known that Canada and Australia are mortal enemies! Prepare the Thunderdome! :D Yeah, right.

Hilarious speedskating story... did not know that. Good on him... sounds like the Tortoise and the Hare story.:D It's excellent that he beat Boucher...that guy was well annoying in his silly red pants.

I wish I could say it's never come close to snowing here. Actually, can't complain this year... been a stunningly mild winter where we live. Not prawns-on-the-barbie mild, mind you. :D

Darth Windu
02-11-2010, 11:50 AM
Oh yeah, the rivalry between Australia and Canada is epic! :P Actually I'm dating a half-Canadian girl, must admit she's pretty amazing :)

Yeah Steven Bradbury is a legend here! Seriously, he is, it was just a fantastic story especially since he'd been trying for about 10 years and had I think two near-fatal accidents whilst doing it. As it turns out he was also the first person from the Southern Hemisphere to win a Winter Olympic gold medal. :)

You know I've never actually BBQ'd prawns :P, mostly it's just steak, burgers, and snags. But yes it been hot here recently, where I am (Perth, Western Australia) in summer it gets to around 40 degree celcius as an average up to around 46-ish (115 fahrenheit) which is fairly toasty. On Christmas we normally look at 30-35 C (90-ish F). Hence no snow ;)

Funny you should say that... I dated a few Aussie lasses in my unfettered youth... thought they were awesome and very cheeky. Probably shouldn't mention snags, bangers, or beaver tails! :D:D:D It's a family-rated site, huh?

Finally received my Punishing One a few days ago, now my collection is complete. :(

In other good news, a local e-store has the Punishing One and new Gunship tool coming in, so I'll be able to have another brand-new gunship. Maybe I'll buy two with one to modify with ball turrets...

Nice one, DW! Whew, finally! Not a bad ship, huh?

Yeah, it's bittersweet... great to finish off the collection, but really sad that it's all over.

Apart from DeAg and a few F-Toys, there's hardly anything left for us ship collectors to buy... gonna be a very lean year, methinks.

Weird that EE has "Wave 12" and the new Gunship up for sale... all repaints we've seen before, apparently.

Yeah quite a pity it's all over now. Well my wallet is going to be pretty happy :)

Will keep an eye on f-toys, but I think it'll be a while until they make something that Titanium hasn't done. I just wish they'd continue with the Star Trek line.

Wave...12??????

WHAT THE HEC?

...

This the final good bye then? A second shot at Punishing One and the Closed Gunship?

...

Hasbro? You SURE there are no more waves???

Darth? This wave- or even the reference to it- needs to be added the list...if even as an unconfirmed release- until it either ships from EE or...heh...we see it on the shelves someplace (Hastings Entertainment Sotres, Borders, etc. may be the only place we'll see this wave. Have to wait and see...)

I'm still glad I got Wave 11- but why not take out the V-Wing and the Magna and put the Outrider and Neb-B in I wonder? Would make more sense to me since the 2 ships I mentioned in this "Last" wave have been around a while- and people are scrambling for Outriders and Neb-B's.

Just my opinion on that. Hope Hasbro lets the line die with SOME dignity. :tired:

Who knows Warstar? Perhaps just extra stock Hasbro had in their warehouse/s or had already been ordered by the time the decide to cancel, oh I mean put of hiatus, was agreed upon.

I only found out this wave existed a few days ago from a local e-tailer because they know I love Titaniums, and had already asked them about the Punishing One and Gunship.

I was going to wait until it actually ships before adding it into the list... that way we'll know if there are any changes or repaints. If you'd like to add a footnote or add them in properly, please go ahead... it is your list, after all! I agree... not a great wave selection to go with... the Neb and Outrider were heavily scalped and are quite expensive, so they should have redone those. Well, at least some folks will be able to get the Gunship and Punny One... at least there's a little dignity in that.:D

Yeah, I think DW hit it right on the nose... this is probably old stock that didn't sell so they're probably shipping them out to retailers at a discount.
