View Full Version : Anyone Else's AT-ST Leg break off?

I tell you...I must hold the world record for breaking a toy...not 2 minutes out of a package. Talk about completely deflating the fun out of a Sunday afternoon with my son.

Two weeks ago I purchased the AT-ST at a Wal-Mart near me. The vehicle and contents were completely secured within the package, the carton was factory sealed and not damaged in any way...and all tie wraps were secured.

This past weekend, when I decided to open the package, I carefully removed the AT-ST from the packaging and upon extending the LEFT leg of the AT-ST to articulate it so it could stand on its own, it immediately snapped off. I could not believe it! I carefully examined the damage...and noticed that the defective piece could easily be replaced. Has anyone else had this problem?

Also...are all of the joints in the leg articulated? After the above occurred...I was very apprehensive to try articulate the foot and other joints in the leg, fearing I would inadvertently break something else.

Wow, that sucks, sorry to see it. I'd suggest taking it back and asking for a replacement.

I haven't had mine give me any trouble like that. Some of the joints are hinges and others have rotation, so it takes a little thought to not just twist everything off, but generally everything is articulated.

If you bought it from Walmart, then you have 90 days to return it if it's defective. I think breaking right out of the package would qualify as defective. I've returned toys to Walmart before and it's always been a very painless process.

WM around here has become very strict about receipts though, citing a new company-wide policy: no returns without receipts, no exceptions. I would hope they'd give leeway to something like this though, as they are the ONLY place to buy one, but I get the feeling it's a new era of "no".

Well, I always save my receipts, so that's probably why I've never had a problem. However, Christmas was less than two weeks ago, so I would think that they would be more lenient.

you could always contact hasbro directly and see what they can do. probably not much, but occasionally it works.

Thanks guys...I still have my receipt as well. I keep everything. I hadn't actually thought it was Wal-Mart's fault...rather an issue with the design. I will be going to back to Wal-Mart this weekend with this thing in tow.

maybe there was some random glue on that joint that froze it shut, then it snapped when you tried to move it. I mean it could have been more of a QC issue rather than design flaw. Not sure though, haven't even opened mine yet to check it out, so it's just an idea. Regardless though, *definitely* take it back, I'm sure it won't be a problem. Hopefully they'll still have one for you to exchange it with.

I haven't had a problem with mine, and I spent a good 30 min trying different poses out right after opening it. I'd take it back for an exchange.

It's the same around here. Returned Christmas presents didn't have receipts and I was only able to get a gift card. I also returned a TV I bought on Black Friday and they insisted on having the receipt before they could take it back. Luckily, I had it. The odd part is that they gave me a refund on the non-sale price when the receipt clearly stated that I paid the sale price.

All I can say is that of the 32 AT-ST (still at regular price) at one of the 6 of my local walmarts, 6 of them had the guns rambling about the floor of the packaging..................quality anybody?

That's due to the new environmentally friendly packaging materials.

The part is user-removable, replaced with a missile-launcher in a tray on the bottom, the clear bands are meant to hold it in place on the toy during violent shipping, sounds like your store had extremely violent shipping. The toy is not likely damaged in any way.

Well...I thought I had the receipt...but I don't! I opened a call with Hasbro on Monday, and I am still waiting for a response. I may to actually call them to get an answer. If they won't send me a replacement leg, then I am probably out of luck.

They won't send you a replacement leg, what they'll do is offer you a replacement toy entirely, but cannot guarantee that it'll be the same toy, if they don't have a replacement it'll be one of equal value. I didn't like the sound of that, so I talked them into paying me back, which they were willing to do, but they aren't allowed to refund sales tax, and the mailer they sent me was just a prepaid slip, no packaging at all. I would suggest asking your local WM if they'll replace it before sending it back to Hasbro.

Well...I took my broken AT-ST back to Wal-Mart tonight, I walked in and saw the sign "Refunds / Exchanges within 90 Days with a receipt". I walked up to the counter and told the guy that I bought it 2 weeks ago, that I didn't have a receipt, and that when I opened the package and tried to articulate the leg that it broke. He told me no problem...and to go and get another to exchange. I was so happy...that I bought another one too.

Walking out of Wal-Mart with two (not broken) AT-STs was a great feeling. Say what you will about Wal-Mart...but I love the Presque-Isle Wal-Mart! And they finally had the Empire wave there tonight and still tons of AT-STs. Thanks guys for your help and ideas!

Well...I finally heard back from Hasbro today after nearly 3 weeks of waiting and it is as you stated JediTricks...they are sending me a replacement toy of equal value, but cannot send me another AT-ST since it is an retailer exclusive. Either way, it is fine by me, since I already returned it to Wal-Mart, anything from Hasbro now is just a bonus! I'll let you know what I end up getting.

Nope...no mention of it at all in their email!
Here is their response:
===================================
Thank you for taking the time to contact us.

The Star Wars Clone Wars AT-ST you refer to is a Walmart store exclusive. Because an exclusive product is manufactured for a particular retailer, we are not allowed to sell it through any other outlet, including direct sales to the consumer from the manufacturer. We are also unable to obtain any replacement parts.

Since consumer satisfaction is our goal, we wish to send you a replacement item of equal value, under separate cover.

We are sending the equal value item to:

<INSERT MAILING ADDRESS HERE>

We hope this resolution is satisfactory. Please do not hesitate to contact us if we can provide further assistance.

I'm patient - I kinda have to be with the way Legacy figures have been shipping.

I bought the TFU battle damaged Vader in one of the early Legacy droid factory waves and when I opened it he was missing a foot. I went through the process of contacting Hasbro since I wasn't able to find many of them around here. They asked for the Vader to be sent to them (they paid postage) and sent me a replacement figure - the Imperial Engineer. I would have rather had the Vader.

Is it even guaranteed to be a Star Wars toy? What if they just send $45 worth of GI Joe movie toys?

Darkross
01-22-2010, 05:37 PM
Well...no worries...since I already got my AT-ST replaced by Wal-Mart...so anything at all is a bonus. If it is GI-Joe...then I'll just sell them or give them away. Hopefully it is Star Wars related. Star Wars Lego would be cool!

Well...my replacement toy(s) came in the mail on Friday. Much to my surprise, they sent two items, both of which are kind of lame and not anything that I would have purchased for myself. They sent me the Titanium Darth Maul, and Clone Wars R/C R2D2...and a nice letter telling me that due to back order they were unable to expedite a replacement toy for the one that I complained about. Anyway...here is the picture (taken from the web) of the stuff they sent me.

Wow, that is seriously bullcrap. That Maul Titanium Forged figure was clearaned out for next to nothing a few years ago, and that R2 isn't selling that great anywhere since it's $30 and fits no scale. Geez, the Fart Bog strikes again!

I strongly suggest asking for a cash refund in exchange for this stuff you don't want.
