View Full Version : Now there's an NCAA basketball 09-10 thread!

With conference play beginning, now it's the REAL college basketball season, until the tournament gets running, then that's the real REAL season.
Big T1e1n and Big East have 9 of the top 25 AP teams right now, with 5 from the BE. Youngstown St. made the box scores, as Butler blew them out. :theonlybadpublicityisnopublicity:
Show your pride! Unless your team is having an "off" year, then complain or put down other rival schools! :p

Big Syracuse fan here....also enjoy Siena and UAlbany since I live in Albany. I freelance working a lot of Siena and UAlbany games on the production crew, usually do camera work which is really enjoyable and I can watch the games for free and in person!
Syracuse is playing very well this season so far. We'll see how well they can do come tourney time.
Siena is also doing their job in the MAAC. Anyone who knows college hoops knows how well they have played in the NCAA tournament the last two years, first demolishing Vanderbilt two years ago and then beating Ohio St. and giving Louisville a run for their money.

YSU was on cable last night! They lost to Wisconsin-Milwaukee, IIRC, but there were quite a number of empty seats (even near courtside) for the Penguins home game. :(

Youngstown State? The Penguins??? I thought about getting their hat at Lids.com.
01-24-2010, 10:12 AM
And "Y" would you have passed on that opportunity, DQ? : penguinpower: :pleased: BTW, YSU is #211 in RPI.
Will we ever have another undefeated NCAA champ again? UK is the only one, and they've had some close ones.

Syracuse is still looking great at 22-1.
Big game coming up in a few weeks with (currently) #2 Villanova at the dome in Syracuse. Sold out already and the largest on-campus game attendance record at 36,616.

Pitt began strong, and even cracked the top-10 in some poll, but they've stumbled since. Hope they can handle The Hall today. Ohio State's been consistent after their hurdles (and Turner's injury). YSU, well. They still have a team.

My bracket is ruined; ruined! The play-in game (as usual, for me) did not go the way I thought. I'm on pace to lose every game. :(
My picks, in case anyone really cares?
Kansas/Michigan St., Tennessee/Ohio St.
Kentucky/Wisconsin, Washington/W. Virginia
Duke/Siena, Notre Dame/Villanova
As a homer, Pitt over Kentucky. Hey, I can dream, can't I?

As hard as I tried, I couldn't sway away from mostly chalk. I've got Kansas, Kentucky, Kansas St., and Duke in the final four. The hardest games the number 1 seeds Kansas, Kentucky, and Duke will play are in the elite 8.
03-22-2010, 04:09 PM
I still have half my Sweet 16 left (Ohio St., Mich. St., Duke, Kentucky, W.Virginia, Wash., Butler, and Tenn.), but the homer in me wept as Pitt went down. Now, all my support goes to OSU (forget my bracket! ).
03-22-2010, 07:30 PM
In a poll of over 100 people 35 of them had Kansas winning. My bracket is shot. Kansas, Pitt, and Villanova were three of my Sweet 16 who lost.
The only way I can win now is if every one of my picks from here on out are correct, and Northern Iowa wins. In other words, Basketball season ended Saturday.

Syracuse is looking great so far even without their big man underneath.....and with Kansas outta the way on that side of the bracket....if they can keep playing well hopefully we'll see them in the final four!!!

Since my winning teams are done for, here's my final stats for the 2010 tourney:
total games: 35/64 (54.7%)
Nat'l Champion: 0/1 (0%)
Final game: 0/2 (0%)
Final Four: 1/4 (25%)
Elite Eight: 3/8 (37.5%)
Sweet Sixteen: 8/16 (50%)
1st Round and Play-in: 23/33 (69.7%)
Anyone else getting the sense that conspiracy theorists will have a field day if Duke wins it all, especially if they keep getting bogus calls their way?
03-29-2010, 01:26 PM
I think they already are. This tournament was Duke's to lose.
I actually had a chance to win my bracket pool even with no National Champion. But Kentucky couldn't hit a bucket to save their life.
This tournament will be known for 2 things; poor basketball play and a Duke favored set-up.

Way to go Butler!!! Hopefully they can finish this tourney the right way and win on Monday night. I'm not sure what but there is something about Izzo that just rubs me the wrong way, so I'm always happy when Michigan State has to go home with a loss.

Makes sense that two schools with title names (butler, duke) will play for the title. And Butler has the more common cliche' ("the butler did it" ), so it should win.

Oh, the NBA had its finals (some team beat anther team) and now its draft. Kentucky had its entire team (waterboy included) selected.
