View Full Version : Would You Buy Senator Amidala's Flying Wing From AOTC?

I am continuing my 3 3/4" vehicle thread series.

This will discuss ONLY the vehicle in the title of the thread (in this case Senator Amidala's Flying Wing From AOTC).

I will cover several unmade vehicles for the action figures per week, choosing them from a rotating schedule through the movies and the Expanded Universe.

I'll order it TPM, AOTC, ROTS, ANH, ESB, ROTJ, EU, and then keep going back through the order in that manner.

So here I'm only asking you if you'd buy Senator Amidala's Flying Wing From AOTC?

This ship would be big when assembled, but I can imagine it being packed in a box the size of the Naboo Queen's Royal Starship. You add the wings on after you open the box.

The interior would be very similar to the Naboo Royal Starship, but the boarding ramp would come down in the back. Two astromech stations might hold droids inside. The ship could have the astrodroid elevator as a play feature, so long as it's disguised.

The ship might be very flat and doesn't have to feature the slide-out section so there are two levels, above and below the flight seats. With the extended wings, I fear that could make the already wide ship unmanageable (but feel free to add your thoughts). The cockpit seating would be about the same, but be deep enough in the ship for a non-softgoods, non-SA Corde figure to stand inside the cruiser. Joined by standing Naboo Royal Guards and Security Officers and soldiers and handmaidens.

The wings might "launch off" by springs to simulate the explosion. The N-1 fighters should definitely be re-released at the same time this is sold, as well as re-releases for Padme Pilot and Captain Typho Pilot, and Typho's green astromech.

The ship does not need electronics, but the explosion sound could be cool with that "stormtrooper scream voice-track" they've been using since ANH and the guy took a dive in the Death Star when Luke shot him.

There will be no "EU craft" that somehow launches out of the larger ship.

This vehicle was destroyed before the Clone Wars, so there will be no more of it to be seen.

Corde might be an exclusive figure added into this box to help sales.

Do you want this made?

What pricepoint do you see it being issued at?

How do you think it would sell if produced?

The ship we see briefly in the beginning of the film? It's a cool design, but A) she's not even on board, and B) it gets destroyed before doing anything of note.

No.

Despite being my favorite of Amidala's vehicles it's a no go. It gets hardly any screen time and won't be seen anywhere else. Too bad really, I'd rather have seen her tootle around the galaxy on this bad boy than any of her flying football shaped craft but I guess this one was too big to work within the plot of AOTC.

Besides it being a loaner from the current Queen of Naboo and not Amidala's (details), again Hasbro never getting the chrome/finish right, unless it comes with it's own explosives kit that actually shoots fire and singes eyebrows, I have to pass.

It's a nice design, but no. Even if by some miracle it was made the same size as the Ep1 Queen's Starship AND Hasbro managed to chrome over the entire toy AND it only cost $100, it would still rot on the shelves and completely doom the entire large vehicle line.

Pass, unless they do it in the 30 dollar range ala the Sith Infiltrator. Just have a slide-out cockpit that holds 1 figure.I think I would get it then.

I even skipped the titanium one. No, I wouldn't even consider buying this.

Nope. I think BigB had a great point in the other thread: Padme should've had the same ship through all three movies, instead of three or four similar but different ships.

It's a nice design but I can't see it translating to a cool toy. I'd buy it, but I'm not asking for it.

I'd be far more interested in this one than the one she has in AotC. I'd almost certainly get this one.

Do you mean ROTS? This is the one from AOTC.

She has two in AOTC - but this one she's never actually aboard as she flies escort to her decoy (Corde) in one of the N-1's with R2-D2 aboard her fighter.

I already polled for that ship and it's losing. However, that cruiser is seen going to Tatooine, Geonosis, and Illum (in the mircro 'Toon series). Only then is it destroyed on Rodia - not by enemy attack, but by one of JarJar's many mistakes.

This ship is only seen with Corde, when it is destroyed in the beginning of AOTC.

In AOTC prequel EU it could show up. Or another ship designed just like this one (I never heard it's official name if it was given one) could appear any time after AOTC.

One thing I've heard is this is Queen Jamilla's ship and Padme is borrowing it in the beginning of AOTC.

Her second ship in AOTC / Clone Wars is a small star cruiser. It would presumably hold maybe a dozen passengers, and have an employee of the Naboo government as its pilot and Typho as her captain (I presume Panaka if still active in the Guardsmen, now works for Queen Jamilla at this point.)

Her personal ship has appeared in Clone Wars, and probably holds 4-6 people with a 2-seat cockpit. C-3PO seems to be the co-pilot. This is probably not a Naboo government vessel, though maybe commissioned by the Naboo government as a gift to their former Queen / current Senator. Or Padme's paid well for her work - as the chrome ship thing she has going on follows her into her private life.

On another note, the E1 Naboo Queen's Royal Starship's fate has never been revealed to my knowledge. The Droids from the Trade Federation were said to have found it in the swamp. Besides searching it, I don't know what else they did to it - if anything. But Jamilla got a new ship anyway.

The Royal Starships are large and hold a full staff and military contingent. They are private cruisers though - not at all large enough to be called capital ships.

By comparison, I think Alderaan's senatorial ship is definitely a capital ship, as the Corvettes they use (for Bail Organa and Princess Leia) - well that's the same ship, repainted - that is large and carries 400 people, diplomatic staff and most of the rest being military - possibly up to a small Regiment led by a Lt. Colonel, outranked by the Alderaan Navy Captain (Antilles).

I think it looked like Amidala's biggest ships carried about 50 people, one troop company, controlled by a Royal Guard / Army captain (Panaka or Typho).

The 2nd ship she uses in AOTC and in CW, probably can hold maybe 12 people tops - and if there's any troops, it would be a squad only, ran by a Sergeant, and supervised by Padme's captain. Since she's important, it's important for him to go along. So I'd say there might be about 8 military on board, and 4 others - Padme, Typho, Anakin, Dorme. I'm not counting droids. But they can just put them in alcoves when they aren't using them.

On Padme's star skiff (CW / ROTS) there is probably room for about 6. Maybe 2 guards, an officer (Typho), Padme, Dorme, another passenger (Anakin), or C-3PO (normally). R2-D2 can just be stuffed anywhere.

The Millennium Falcon probably holds about 12 under normal circustances (with crew quarters etc) - 4 in the cockpit, 2 gunners, 2 engineers, 4 cargo handlers (if Han was rich or having good dreams). Someone would be trained to also serve as a medical officer.

I think we've seen the Twilight with similar circumstances.

Sorry, I meant the one she has later in AotC.

She has two in AOTCShe has 1 flying wing in AOTC, the other ship, the Naboo Yacht, isn't wing-shaped.

ROTS Naboo Star Skiff (Flying Wing): http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/J-Type_Naboo_star_skiff

Sorry, I meant the one she has later in AotC.Ah, yes, I see. I agree, the Flying Wing is way cooler than the rather boring Yacht.

Yes, but mini-rig sized.

DarkJedi5

I don't really think this counts. I mean, it's not usable for any dioramas I would make. I mean, it looks good but, I think I'd rather have a full sized one.

Tycho

The mini-rig is not supposed to resemble the flying wing from AOTC.

It's made in the different form similar to Padme's personal ship in ROTS that's seen in the Clone Wars cartoon.

The flying wing was destroyed before CW takes place.

I don't need the flying wing or mini-rig

Padme's (Corde's) flying wing loses this round 8-2. The fans vote "NO."

The new AOTC poll will be going up in the new Vintage section a few minutes after I post this.
