View Full Version : Would You Buy A Coruscant Air Bus from ROTJ?

I am continuing my poll series for new Hasbro 3 3/4" vehicles.

This thread will discuss primarily the vehicle in the title of the thread in this case A Coruscant Air Bus from ROTJ seen in the Special Edition of ROTJ.

However, this vehicle is possibly seen in all the prequel movies (though a much smaller one transports Obi-Wan, Anakin, Padme, R2D2, Typho, and Dorme in AOTC. This is not that vehicle, so please see the picture I've provided from ROTJ below.

This is the bottom of the barrel for ROTJ. Every conceivable ship in the movie has been pretty much polled for. If you have any suggestions for ROTJ vehicles for polling, please post them in this thread, else Episode 6 will drop out of the process the very next go-around.

I cover several unmade vehicles for the action figures per week, choosing them from a rotating schedule through the movies and the Expanded Universe.

I order it TPM, AOTC, ROTS, ANH, ESB, ROTJ, EU, and then keep going back through the order in that manner.

So here I'm only asking you if you'd buy A Coruscant Air Bus from ROTJ?

I propose the carrying case vehicle be made for this one for certain. The Rebel Transport from ESB served a military purpose as a Rebel Alliance passenger and freight hauler. The airbus is only a passenger vehicle with no need for a play interior - other than it should have "seating," and not honeycomb "containers" for the figures you put inside.

Obviously the airbus is ideal for this sort of carrying-case use, since both PT and OT characters can be placed in each one (thus you could buy two at a minimal).

On the outside, it's perfect for diorama use for Coruscant's busy skyways.

Meanwhile, it should include an airbus driver figure as a pack-in exclusive. He can be human, but an alien might sell much better. Here's a chance at that almost-Bothan looking alien who drives the taxi in TPM.

Again, the pilot figure should have a cockpit to pilot the bus from.

So do you want the Coruscant Air Bus from ROTJ?

What other features would you want on it?

Why would you NOT want it?

How do you think it would sell if produced?

No, I wou

(that was the 10 character limit requirement :p it would have completed "-ldn't buy this turd at any price, why are you wasting our time with these loser vehicles when we already did a poll that covered all this stuff at once and it tanked hard?" :D)

No. It's boring. And, judging from that picture, if done in scale, it would dwarf the BMF Falcon.

Truth is, though it doesn't fit in with the scheme of your poll series, I'd rather have a Battle Pack with the toppling statue of Palpatine holding that orb from TPM, the crowd-surfing Stormtrooper, a dude yelling "The Son of the Sun," and twelve fanboys arguing over whether the other dude was saying "The Son of the Sun" or not.

No.

In general, I consider vehicles that were introduced in the Special Editions to be prequel vehicles. The only two exceptions would be the Imperial Landing Craft and the Outrider (and I wouldn't buy either of those either).

"The son of suns" sound effect from that scene has been debunked, it just sounds like it apparently, but is gibberish.

Hence the twelve fanboys arguing over it. :D

Even if it's gibberish, you gotta admit it's a huge coincidence that it sounds like the weird prophecy in the intro to the 1977 (1976?) novel, and, when you factor in Lucas's propensity to completely lie about the past when it comes to making the movies, you're entering prime conspiracy theory there.

It's also weird that people still think it was from the novelization, despite being from an early draft of ANH. :p

No, I don't want this vehicle.

It might've been from an early draft, but it does appear in a prologue to the novelization. I've got a reprint from the late 1970s (I think 1979), and it's in there.

I would buy the one from AOTC...but not the inferior version from ROTJ.

Are you sure? Everything I've seen, both official and unofficial, makes it seem like it's from the script, not the novel. If you could check (and maybe provide a scan) then that would be super.

The only prologue I'm familiar with is the one that explains the rise of the Empire, which is actually quite like how it played out in the prequels.

This was the last vehicle seen in ROTJ that I could possibly do for this series.

I've asked for ROTJ suggestions (they should be exclusively ROTJ else I'll get to them for another movie's selection).

Unless there's some large outcry for electronic A-wings or B-wings, those ships really don't need a resculpt and were recently re-released, too.

The fact that carrying-case vehicles were discussed in serveral polls made this an ideal way to present this last-chance effort for ROTJ to get one in there.

ROTJ Winners are:

Jabba The Hutt's sailbarge 26-2
Speederbike resculpt 9-5
Tatooine Skiff resculpt 15-1

ROTJ losers were:

Mon Calamari Starcruiser (Home One - and if this lost, so would others)
Imperial Shuttle re-release / resculpt
big TIE Interceptor
Coruscant air taxi
Coruscant air bus ???? (I'd predict it's going to go that way)

About 16 people voted in each poll except for the fact that Jabba's Sailbarge generated huge interest and higher participation - obviously.

Man, JJL, you're just trying to make me look stupid, aren't you? I just fished out the book, and it's The Journal of the Whills that's mentioned. I guess I remembered being confused by something for years, and, when people online started saying it was the Son of the Sun, I thought that was it.

No Son of the Sun in the novelization. Just The Journal of the Whills, and a very different backstory for Palpatine, where it almost sounds like he's a victim of the system.

No to this aswell. I didn't even realise it was a vehicle in that pic!

It was a foolish mistake, actually, they should have fuzzied up the audio a bit to make sure it didn't sound like something else before dropping it in the film:

Also, that article debunks the prophecy appearing in the '76 novelization. You can read the prologue to the novel on Amazon, that's the only portion of the book they show actually.

This was the last vehicle seen in ROTJ that I could possibly do for this series.Actually, there's still the ship fans used to nickname "the hammerhead ship" before it got a fan-made name and story: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Braha%27tok-class_gunship
and there's also the other Mon Cal ship, the Liberty. But everybody knows these won't be made.

As long as the job is getting done. It's busy work, always more needing to be done. ;)

JT, thanks for the very interesting research on the gunship used in ROTJ!

I never would have known that information. Great find!

Unless there's a few crying for me to poll for it, I won't bother however. (I myself would buy one though - anything cool to add to a diorama!)

However, I've decided to run a new OT Y-Wing as a final ROTJ poll, instead of ANH one. I've got one other vehicle for ANH, and then I can pretty much end every OT poll all at about the same time (this final, last time through).

The PT has a few more ships to poll for and of course the EU has a great library to run through from Republic, KOTOR, TOTJ, NR, DE, HTTE, RS, SOTE, TFU, and more CW, amongst any others I see having merit to add (or get requested).

Tycho would love to see you do a poll for the ROTJ Y-Wing..... one of my favorite Rebel Ships...and perhaps we could finally get an all grey Y-Wing with exclusive Grey Leader "I'm Hit" figure. would totally drop the $70.00 price tag on it.
