My show returns from the brink of death yet again (http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118019212.html?categoryid=14&cs=1)! Saban has just bought back the franchise from Disney. Following sometime after the completion of Disney's 32 episode "MMPR Reversion" season on ABC Kids (which should be early September 2010), Saban (via Nicktoons) will air a new Power Rangers season consisting of at least 20 episodes.

That's great!

. . . though I'v never understood the appeal of power rangers. What do people like about it?

Agreed.

Occasionally when I'm Star Wars hunting I check out other toy isles. The other day I came across new original Power Ranger figures. What gives?
The best part is, Galactic Heroes versions! Zedd included!

I saw this article, and expected to find a thread here about it started by you, LM. :D Even if I don't much care for it, I'm happy for you.

(Now to get Arrested Development back on the air.)

I remember when my sister was in high school and running a day care with her boyfriend's cousin, and a few times I'd go with her and take care of the cousin's 2 little little kids, and that's what we'd do, they'd go nuts for Power Rangers.

Those 2 little kids are now about to hit their 20s. I'm old. Power Rangers is old. :(

If you are into kids shows what isn't there to like about Power Rangers. Godzilla type action battles every episode. Based on the Kimberly comments, you could say the new scantily dressed ladies every season. Most seasons have at least a few interesting characters and "action-adventure" stories, which (depending on the season and who is in charge of the current story) can range from 80's quality like Generation 1 Transformers, Thundercats, 80's He-Man etc. to more recent shows like Transformers Beast Wars, 00's He-Man and 03's TMNT. While most would consider it primarily aimed at kids (like how Looney Tunes and Flintstones are perceived) it does try to appeal to both kids and adult audiences compared to 90% of the shows aimed at kids today on the E/I bent broadcast television channels (though going to Nick almost certainly means the end of broadcast television airings).

This deal does present me with a minor problem... If there are no broadcast airings I won't be able to watch it given my current situation (no cable).:(

Agreed.

For 2010 Disney chose not to produce/air a new season of the Power Rangers show. Instead Disney chose to outsource the the first season (well... the first 32 epsisodes of season 1 anyway) of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers to have a new "Reversioned" Mighty Morphin Power Rangers season made (think the Transformers Generation 2 show). To reflect this "Reversion" season Bandai made a new Mighty Morphin line of toys, with a good deal of the toy ideas for the new line being copied from their (and other toy companies) recent successes. This includes "Ben 10" mix & match type figures and Star Wars "Galactic Heroes" type figures.

Using that logic everything is old. Power Rangers, Transformers, TMNT, He-Man, GI Joe, Star Trek and Star Wars.:p

Which deluxe set with Lord Zedd are you talking about, the "Galactic Heroes" style figure set or the normal 4" figure set?

the normal 4" inch set..have yet to see the GH style figures of the Power Rangers... the only other figures I have seen are about 2" tall and you can re-arrange the parts of the figures with various Zords to create a sorta ultra Ranger or Ultra Zord.

I broke down last night and picked up a Puddie and the Pink Ranger (going to try and customize the pink ranger a bit. going to see if I can find a head sculpt that looks close to Amy Jo Johnson.). actually thinking about getting the rest of the rangers and maybe getting the Mega Zord (only $23.00 which is not a bad deal for a Voltron sized version that can seperate into all the individual Zords).

Funny thing about that 4 inch group set, there are actually 3 different versions of it. A Walmart exclusive set (http://www.collectionstation.com/items/view/13199) ("show accurate" white/colored diamonds), a Toys"R"Us exclusive set (http://www.collectionstation.com/items/view/13901) (silver diamonds), and a Disney Store exclusive set (http://www.collectionstation.com/items/view/16204) (gold diamonds). The GH figures in 2 packs (http://www.collectionstation.com/categories/view/Mighty-Morphin-2010.3411/2-Collectible-Figurines.3592) should be available at most stores, though the large GH group set is a Toys"R"Us exclusive (http://www.collectionstation.com/items/view/14666). Incidentally the Disney store has exclusive "gold diamond" variants in GH 4 packs (http://www.collectionstation.com/items/view/13907).

Those would be the Power Ranger "Ben 10 mix & match" type figures.

If you plan on getting the rest of the Rangers you might want to take this into consideration. The six main Ranger figures currently available (Red, Black, Blue, Green, Yellow and Pink) are currently undergoing a "variant" transition from opaque figures (with gold flyers) (http://www.collectionstation.com/items/view/13183) to translucent figures (with silver flyers) (http://www.collectionstation.com/items/view/16239). So far only the Red Ranger and Blue Ranger variants have been found, but the others should be showing up any time now. A White Ranger should also be out later this year when the fall line is released (to complete the set).

As for the Megazord, its definitely a good buy. You may even get it for cheaper $23.00. I heard a few people have found it at Target going for as little as $4.00. Oddly enough, there is also a Disney Store exclusive version of Megazord (http://www.collectionstation.com/items/view/16207) as well. Aside from the package and price ($40.00?!!) I'm not certain if there is any difference between the two versions though. A Titanus (http://www.collectionstation.com/items/view/15107) that combines with the Megazord (and doubles as a "Ben 10 mix & morph" figure base) should be available during the fall line.

so I'm in the process of customizing the Pink Ranger figure and found that the head of the Marvel Universe Black Widow fits on the Pink Ranger as well as the head of Scarlett from G.I.Joe. I'm thinking of making a version of the Pink Ranger without the helmet.

I have seen the Green Ranger as well as the other Rangers in various stores just not sure if I want all of them. kinda torn also about buying Zordon and Alpha 5.

if i was to get additional Rangers I would get both the White and Green Rangers, and I would buy the Megazord if they also released a scaled Dragonzoid and White Tiger Zoid as well.

Sounds good. Not quite certain what would make for a good Kimberly head though.

Yeah, all 6 Rangers in opaque (solid color plastic) with gold dragon armor attachments have been found in stores. Its the translucent (see through color plastic) variants with silver dragon armor attachments that only Red & Blue have been found thus far. Its a "running change" variant, so as more "translucent" figure cases show up, expect the "solid" figure cases to phase out. Same is true for Alpha/Zordon, he is only available in the "solid" cases. The "translucent" cases replace the Alpha/Zordon figures completely with extra Goldars and translucent Rangers.

The 2010 Alpha 5 figure is fairly decent looking. A lot closer to his TV appearance than the 1993 Alpha 5 figure that was included with the Command Center Playset. Zordon...thats another story. You might actually be happier with trying to find the 1993 Command Center Playset. It has Zordon's tube/head built into it and looks closer to the show than the "Captain Picard's head in a jar" 2010 Zordon.

Well, a single carded White Ranger (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=BAN12708&mode=retail) is definitely supposed to be in the fall line. As is Lord Zedd (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=BAN12709&mode=retail), Red Ranger w/ Green Ranger's Shield (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=BAN12702&mode=retail) (appeared a few times on the show), Black Ranger w/ Green Ranger's Shield (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=BAN12704&mode=retail) (appeared once on the show), Blue Ranger w/ Green Ranger's Shield (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=BAN12703&mode=retail) (an original Bandai creation, though its "believable enough" for the show given Black & Red) and a Powered-Up Green Ranger (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=BAN12707&mode=retail) (another Bandai original creation).

At this point Tigerzord seems like its a long shot given the recent announcement about making new seasons. Dragonzord on the other hand might be in the works. Bandai has gotten tons of emails asking for it (as well as a roleplay coin morpher and a Rita Repulsa figure). In fact, Bandai recently asked on their twitter and their facebook page for fans to submit messages specifically ranking (from "most wanted" to "least wanted") Dragonzord, the morpher, and Rita Repulsa.

I myself am not sure which head to use for Kimberly as well. was thinking of doing something like this for all the Rangers (should I decide to buy them all) but Kimberly is tough. I'm not sure if there is an action figure sculpt that comes close to Amy Jo Johnson. even the morphing series that were made years back didn't get her likeness right. really want to try to make a regular Kimberly figure with morphing device and then another version where she is dressed in her Rangers uniform but without her helmet. will have to investigate this further and see what I can come up with

so i typed in Amy Jo Johnson on google and it came up with alot of reference photos of the actress including her part as the Pink Ranger and the more and more I look at her she kinda has a sorta Natalie Portman look to her. going to see if I can get a Arena Battle Evolutions Padme and see if the head sculpt works for Kimberly.

I had the biggest crush on her "boyfriend", the green ranger:love: I even watched the "newer" Power Rangers when Jason David Frank was some teacher of the new generation of Rangers.

Tommy the Green Ranger.... i remember my sister having a huge crush on him as well.... even more so when he became the White Ranger.. my wife had a crush on Jason the Red Ranger and then Billy the Blue Ranger....

i belive a friend of mine actually had a crush on Rita (or at least the actress that played Rita....) and another friend of mine was in love with Skull.

Kind of funny seeing what they are all up to today. Jason David Frank (Tommy) is currently training with UFC fighters and fighting in Amateur level MMA events in Texas. So far he is 4-0. Austen St. John (Jason) is now a real life paramedic in Virginia. David Yost (Billy) did some producing and directing, but currently owns a Pizza franchise in California. He is also in an upcoming movie called Degenerate. Jason Narvy (Skull) is currently working on his Ph.D. in Dramatic Arts. As for Machiko Soga (Japanese footage Rita Repulsa), which is the one I assume you are talking about, she unfortunately passed away in 2006 from pancreatic cancer.

I watch MMA a lot and also saw Frank on YouTube in an MMA fight. He really needs to step it up and learn to fight dirty if he is going to have any chance in the higher level MMA fights.

Thats why he is competing at the amateur level right now, to learn the ropes for the higher level fights. ;) As sloppy as his fighting is at the moment, realistically speaking I don't think anyone here would want to go up against Frank in a fight. Former Power Ranger actor or not, the guy is a 6th degree black belt in karate (which is about as high as one physically can go in karate), a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and has Muay Thai and kickboxing training. Not to mention the fact he has invented/developed his own unique form of martial arts known as Toso Kune Do.
