View Full Version : ARCHER on FX (or, possibly, better yet, on DVD!)

Is anyone else watching this raunchy and hilarious animated show at all? I was a little late to the game, but Netflix had the entire first series (10 episodes) available for streaming before the DVD release. I'm kinda curious how this show is airing since the language is rather colourful and there's a lot of sexual themes. Clearly, for the most part, the "nudity" remains without pixelation-- unless the character is "shooting their shot", so-to-speak.

The show is created by the team that brought us Frisky Dingo and Sealab 2021.

Archer is alright, it stinks of Frisky Dingo at times (which is both good and bad), and Jon Benjamin is definitely not mainstream enough for the lead (which is again both good and bad), I originally caught it September '09 and felt it was ok, good cast, writing was still sloppy despite the longer runtime than its Adult Swim roots. But it has its "charms", it's entertaining enough, and I look forward to the new episodes. FX should have produced more eps this year though, they have lost momentum having it off the air for so long.

It pretty good it fills my frisky dingo void. Which in my opinion is the best show in the history of televison. Oh adam reed why did you have family problems and cancel such a work of art. No show ever will make me laugh that hard. Mainly because i am a part of ant baby machete squad.

They had Pam, the heavy-set HR director, freshly back from Jamaica with braids and completely baked the whole episode. Archer was trying to tell her something and then got frustrated with her. It went something like this...

Pam: Ja mon... I'm all cool runnings...
Archer: Yeah... just... shut up... you, um... I had something for this... *walks away*
Pam: *takes a toke* "Blob" Marley? *smirks*

LOL

Last night's ep was ok, I fear that stupid baby storyline will continue on though. I saw the twist ending coming a mile away, but Woodhouse being a junkie was one I didn't see coming.

I just watched a couple of the episodes, had to DVR it as my wife finds it disgusting and offensive, which makes me enjoy it all the more. Never heard of "Frisky Dingo", but so far have enjoyed Archer.

Yeah... not keen on the baby storyline, but I have a feeling it won't interfere too much with the rest of the season. I loved the Lana/Archer scenes in the swamp. I think I enjoy the verbal sparring the most on the show.

I think you should seek out Frisky Dingo, man. It's actually-- I can't say "better", but similar in a different way?

Oh, this show is totally crude, but it's not aimed at girly-girls and people with bookish sensibilities. :D

The WWI storyline was good, but I really got a kick out of the Seamus babysitting scenes. The celery stick dipped in the Bloody Mary reminded me of a guy I went to junior high/high school with. He always said his grandmother dipped his pacifier in Jack Daniel's to make him sleep.

I laughed out loud as Seamus kept getting his hands on alcohol, the straight razor and all sorts of things a baby shouldn't have access to!

Carol/Cheryl drinking the rubber cement had me in tears. I loved the conversation between Pam and Cyril and how they were figuring out everyone's odds for staying alive.

After last week's ep, I wasn't too sure about how the cancer storyline would be played out. That changed with last night's ep. Oh my goodness, it was too funny!!!

The takeoffs on Family Feud and Magnum PI were spot-on!

And Archer's renewed for a third season.

I really appreciate that they played the old lady completely straight and didn't make her some rival agent or something. It made the story have a little more heart.

I loved the little endorsements for medical marijuana that were tucked into the episode.

The continuing ridiculing of Lana's size and her hands brings me joy. Holy sh** snacks!!!! :) I like how Cheryl/Carol is really starting to unravel as the season goes. It reminds me of what they did to Naoko Mori's character in Absolutely Fabulous.

Glad to hear it got an extension and a renewal.

Sterling Archer is a narcissistic buffoon and a emotional child, is that a comparison you really want to invite?

Anyway, FX just a few hours ago announced the season 4 airdate, Thursday, January 17th, following a whole hour of Charlie Sheen's s*itcom "Anger Management" and now followed by a freshman show instead of Wilfred or whatever they were airing with it.

No. But there are times when that description is kind of accurate for either of us (Archer or myself). I fess up, and it's actually nothing I'm ashamed of here.

I have better traits that some might find quite likeable though, but then I'm a real 3-dimensional person and Archer is a cartoon.

See, I like Anger Management, and like Archer, I'd want to $#&% "the little brown girl" in therapy on that show. Charlie already sleeps with his therapist, and if I were him I wouldn't overlook my patient. True she's psychotic, but look at the girls I like - as long as they're hot! [see: the Archer comparison is pretty accurate.]

As to Wilfred, I'd like to see it come back soon. The 3rd season seemed to just end really abruptly and I've heard that it is coming back, but F/X has handled that really weird. But it's a weird show. I think Ryan (Elija Wood) is just on heavy drugs and hallucinating Wilfred, but some deeper story about his self-examination about his inner psyche is just waiting to be revealed. Allison Mack [Chloe from Smallville] is now Ryan's girlfriend and moving in with him and Wilfred (who really lives next door with his actual owner).

Malory - I couldn't figure out who you were talking about for a while, then it dawned on me that you were using a homophone. That was a saucy comment, I almost suspect that one was aimed more at the show's creator who voices that character.

No, I had a brain fart and meant Malory but it came out Valerie.

The guy who voices Archer was on a ep of Suburgatory this season. He played Dallas' life coach. He's a short little dude.

The guy who voices Archer was on a ep of Suburgatory this season. He played Dallas' life coach. He's a short little dude. His name is H. Jon Benjamin, and he's been a staple of not-exactly-indie animated comedy since Dr Katz, Professional Therapist. For a little bit about a year ago he had his own non-animated show on Comedy Central called "Jon Benjamin has a Van" that they shot around this neighborhood. It's always odd to see him pop up in sitcoms, he also came out of the woodwork for Parks & Rec, of all odd things, and he's the voice of Carl the minimart clerk on Family Guy (which got him a gig on the Family Guy SW specials as Yoda).

I checked out imdb.com to see what the actress who voices Pam looks like, and she's a little hottie!

Man, last week's ep was too funny. Clueless Archer and Timothy Olyphant doing the guest voice were great. Got a lot of great laughs out of that one.

JediTricks

Amber Nash, who voices Pam, has a very mixed set of Google Images results, some photos she's cute, others she's dowdy and frumpy - oddly those are the red carpet photos mainly that her looks don't work for me.

Timothy Olyphant, I wondered if they pitched his voice up to sound a little different, it was quite a different performance from Raylan Givens on Justified. The very last scene in the car, where even Lana is in stunned silence with that look of pity and horror on her face for Archer learning he was touched in a very special way, that was a killer. I don't think they've ever used silence more effectively.

Tycho
01-29-2013, 08:54 AM
I agree at that silence moment. In fact, I can't really remember a film or 'toon where silence was used that well.

The length of the silent beat was extensive, too. So you really got the point of it (pun intended, haha).

That's sick but finally we have something to really justify Archer's alcoholism. I think I needed a drink from just thinking about that - and they're cartoon characters!

Of course, what's her name? Mallory? The rich little office clerk with her ocelot? If she were real, I'd go for that!

But last season, Archer did Pam! LOL

It was great hearing Timothy Olyphant's voice. I didn't know it was him until I read the credits and then I went back and watched the episode. "Your Mom! Doh!" I totally heard his voice then. I bet he had a ton of laughs doing that show.

Thinking of FX actors, they should cast Katey Segal (formerly of Married With Children - Peggy - but now Gemma from Sons of Anarchy). She has a distinct voice. Ron Pearlman (Clay Morrow) maybe.

Very Cool! Archer's getting a full line of collectibles and action figures. Can't wait for Toy Fair.

Factory Entertainment, Inc announced today that it has entered into a multi-year licensing agreement with FX Networks to produce a line of collectibles from its hit animated award-winning comedy series, Archer. Featuring the exploits of ISIS (International Secret Intelligence Service) agent Sterling Archer, voiced by Emmy nominee H. Jon Benjamin, Archer is hilarious adult animation at its best. The fourth season of the show, which premiered on January 17th, delivered stellar ratings and will run on Thursdays at 10pm e/p for 13 weeks on FX.

Factory Entertainment will be offering a wide variety of Archer products across several categories including:

- Collector Plush including: Sterling Archer, Lana Kane, Baby Seamus and Pam Poovey’s Dolphin Puppet.

- Shakems Premium Motion Statues – Factory Entertainment’s line of highly detailed, desktop-scaled polystone statues featuring a dynamic motion element and authentic character dialogue including: Lana Kane & Sterling Archer.

- Action Figures – Detailed collector-oriented action figures starting with Sterling Archer himself!

These and a number of other products are currently in development with a planned release starting in the spring of 2013. Initial prototypes will be unveiled in the Factory Entertainment Booth (#4979) at New York Toy Fair in February.

“We are big fans of the show and so a line of Archer licensed merchandise was a natural fit for us” said Jordan Schwartz, President and CEO of Factory Entertainment. “Its brilliant, edgy humor offers a rich resource of appealing and amusing product ideas” Schwartz continued, “we think Archer fans will be really pleased with what they see!”

Funny thing, I've not heard of Factory Entertainment Inc before, but I've certainly seen their products, mostly at Comic-Con obviously. Unfortunately, when these companies who don't do action figures as their primary lines get licenses like these, they often aren't able to do right by them - usually in price, QC, and distribution - so the line folds before it completes the core cast. With that in mind, I'll be hesitant to jump in with both feet but I'll certainly keep them in mind. Unless they're MEGO style, I'm getting a touch tired of that.

Tycho

I love the show but have no interest in purchasing Archer collectibles (I think - as I'm certainly going to look and laugh).

Archer in his suit would be boring.

Now if they made a highly detailed Archer with his suit all torn up and charred - like from tossing a grenade too close because he was drinking (when does this NOT happen on the show anyway?) then it might turn out pretty original.

It's Carol, the rich secretary that works with Pam who I think is a hot cartoon character.

I think I said Mallory before and that's Archer's mom! No! No! No! I do not want Archer's mother!

I can't believe Lana bent over for Zero! I guess he's not bottom feed (forgive the unintended pun), but Zero's so stiff (probably intended pun).

Archer is so stupid that he trips over Katja every time she appears. She's a robot now for Krieger's sake. Krieger should hook up with her and get off the pornogram.

This episode was totally hilarious but it made me want to drink as much as the characters do!

And btw: what the heck? Is it Carol and Pam's new plan to get firemen by going pyro? Truly pathetic. Pam's comment about cobwebs in her happy place was so disgusting. I know she's a cartoon character but I just did not want to think about that. So gross.

OK. Yeah. Now I understand Archer's obsession with Katja I guess. But Carol's right there. I can't remember, but has no one in the office ever hooked up with her before? She's the hottie.

Both Archer and Cyril have hooked up with Carol. But she's a psycho.

Hell... Archer is better off with Pam. Their relationship was actually really great.

Plus she's one of the few characters on the show who isn't a complete A-Hole.

OK - I have to get my characters on Archer straight:

Archer - that's self-explanatory or maybe it never can be
Malory - his mom and the head of ISIS
Woodhouse - his servant / butler
Lana - the hot Tomb Raider styled black girl agent
Cheryl (not Carol) - the hot brunette secretary that's a pervert
Pam - the blonde fat secretary that's a pervert
Zero (spelling?) the accountant that thinks it's still 1950
Krieger - the mad German scientist that has sex with a Hintai hologram
??? - the gay guy who was in a wheel chair that now has bionic legs

I know. That made me laugh. I'm glad that Mama Archer didn't get it because it would be in character that she'd be clueless on that one.

Fictional characters that have never seen Star Wars before should count as Force-ignorants, too.

But I'm glad for that in a way. I don't want Mrs. Archer posting on our boards!

As a matter of fact, from that cast, probably Zero and maybe (big maybe) Krieger would be the only cool members of that cast to post here.

If Pam weren't constantly high on cocaine. I mean she'd post about "doing Ewoks" or something like that.

Archer and Cheryl are idiots, and Ray's just not cool.

Lana might be nice to have around here though.

Hmmm. There's something wrong with the traffic around here if I want to go start inviting fictional characters to post here.

But as Tycho, I know that there are only a limited number of us survivors from Alderaan around any more who can post here.

Besides that, no one knows if I'm a Rebel / New Republic Starfleet or an Imperial Navy flight captain anyway. All the way around I should be collecting benefits as a veteran of Endor (hmmm- didn't think about that - I could be double-dipping). But then am I a fictional character after all? Reality seems to be slipping here. But even if I'm also a Rogue Squadron cartoon character, I'm a way better pilot than Archer, Zero, and Ray all combined. I'd like to see any of them handle a Death Star! Hah!

By the way, did you notice that Loren Cohan (from Walking Dead / Maggie) is voicing the San Marcos Dictator's ex-wife with the big ones?

Too funny. Good voice work! She's British with a hot accent, as is her Southern accent she plays Maggie with for the show.

<3 Maggie! (and to show my appreciation, I hope she never turns into a rotting walking worm-ridden corpse)
