Finally some new podracer sets. The originals from '99 are very dated when compared to the new offerings that are out.

Dang, 3rd time's a charm for the Sith Infiltrator, and 5th time's a charm for the Falcon? What's Obi-Wan doing in the Podracer set when he was just chillin' back on the ship for the whole scene?

Every speederbike seems to get worse and worse.

Maul now has real horns, but they're actually a hat?

Very interesting stuff. The Falcon is spurring me to sell my 2 different Lego Falcons soon before they're further devalued, I need to get out of my Lego collection, I've lost the passion for it (or rather, I've been priced out).

I'll pick up some of the minifigs... Watto, Sebulba and Wald look particularly nice. Really want to see what's in the SW advent calendar!

I really like that new Darth Maul minifig. Especially his little "horn hat."

Ask and you shall receive. The Star Wars advent calendar (http://theclonenews.freeblog.hu/files/20110208/foto33.png). Given how great the Pirate and two Castle advent calendars were I find this to be disappointing. The image says preliminary, so that might be some changes between now that when it goes on sale this fall.

As for the other unreleased '11 sets, I'm not sure we needed a new Naboo fighter or Sith Infiltrator so soon. The Podracers look great. I've got to agree with JT on the speeder bikes, yuck. I know Lego could do better. I was really hoping for a ROTJ version of the Falcon. I guess another SW version is fine. Maybe 2013 for a ROTJ Falcon

I'm still not sold that the Falcon is an upgrade. It looks smaller than the last one.

Thanks for that... I gotta agree, very disappointing. The little ships hold zero interest for me, and the only minifig I don't already have is the santa Yoda, which I can live without.

If you mean is smaller than the UCS Falcon (http://guide.lugnet.com/set/10179), than yes it is smaller. If you're talking about the '04 Falcon (http://guide.lugnet.com/set/4504), the '11 version is slightly bigger. Both have 12 petals, but the '11 version has longer petals and the meet farther out. Plus the space between the mandibles is wider. So ever without seeing the interior I can tell you it's more than just a simple update.

Wow, I don't remember the last one I bought looking as bad as that. I guess it is time for an update.

I'm still not sold that the Falcon is an upgrade. It looks smaller than the last one.Definitely agree that it doesn't look like an upgrade, but it may have a better interior - I was pretty disappointed with the slab interior of the most recent one I have, the one that looks similar to this.

Wow, I don't remember the last one I bought looking as bad as that. I guess it is time for an update. It doesn't, that's a prelim shot, you can tell because the cockpit doesn't have its tampo. There's also none of the detail panels. It's a bad angle too.

So I was on the set Brickset and saw this image of a new UCS set (http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=10221-1). Somebody at Lego messed up a leaked image on the office site. It's been taken down and likely won't be on Brickset too much longer.

I'm kind of interested this one. Normally I don't get the UCS sets. I have no idea where I'd put something this big, but that's a question for a later day.

Target has the Battle Packs (although, oddly not the Clone Troopers one) for $8 this week. I picked up the Mando set (cool guns with it).

There has been a lot of lego Star Wars sales this week. Target has the battle packs, Walmart has an end cap, and TRU has some sets 20-30 percent of.

I know this is not a NEW set but just had to say that I found an awesome deal at Toys R Us this past weekend. I picked up the AT-AT for $80. Loved saving the $40 on this bad boy. I just wish I could open it up now. But it's for my son's birthday next month. May 23rd please hurry. LOL

I'm relatively new to Star Wars Lego collecting. I had picked up the 1st at-at, the UCS star Destroyer, an older X-wing with Dagobah set, Midi scale Falcon, and the TIE defender over the years. Lately, since Hasbro has been giving me nothing to spend my money on, I've started getting into lego and I've picked up Home one, the newer arc-170, the new slave one, and a B-wing.

I really want a republic gunship, at-te, and Laat, but they're a little too much to pull the trigger on (especially since two of them are retired right now.) I am leaning towards picking up the LAAT with at-ot though and have faith that the other two will be re-released at some point.

The new super star destroyer due out later this year will be mine days after it's released.

What, in your opinions, are the must have sets that have come out over the years?

Darth Metalmute
06-07-2011, 02:30 PM
The problem with most sets are the fact that Lego redoes them every few years and upgrades them in a way that the old sets are irrelevant. The X-wing is a perfect example. The first one was good, but as lego has evolved, the x-wing has gotten so much better that the original one is better used as spare parts.

To answer your question though, it's best to consider which ones Lego won't redo. I think the Endor Bunker set is one that would be worth picking up. A couple of years ago there was a special Cloud City set that Lego won't redo, but I wouldn't waste your money on it. USC Death Star 2 and the walking Imperial Walker are two of my favorites.

Thanks Metalmute, I ended up picking up the LAAT on E-bay last night. Between that and getting the Queen Anne's revenge last week, I may need to lay off for a month or two, but I'll consider the Death Star II after the bank account rebounds a little. I guess we'll know by Comic con about the UCS Executor.

I love my DS2. When I lost my SW room, it was the only lego set that didn't get broken down into parts and stored away. I hadn't heard about the Executor, before it was mentioned earlier. That will be a great set. I hope its affordable. I have yet to drop to 400 for the mini figure DS because of the price.

Toys R Us is having a buy 1 get one 50% off on all LEGO sets June 15th through 18th.

My Toys R Us had 4 new sets in today and buy one get one 50% off sale. Did not take advantage of it as three of the fours sets are in the $80+ range.

They had the new Ewok set, Falcon, Sith infiltrator, and Pod Racing set. The falcon ($149.99) looks impressive from the outside, but the inside is kind of bleah. The new Luke figure is nice looking. The Sith Infiltrator ($79.99) is really a great looking set with nice mini-figures. I think they should have made the sith speeder come out of the back like the original, but oh well. The Ewok set ($24.99) is okay, really only work picking up for the 2 ewoks. The pod racing set (99.99) surprised me. I was originally going to pass on this set since I had the original. But the two pods look as realistic as Lego can do. Watto and Sebulba are awesome new figures. I'm going to have to find a way to save up for this one. It's gonna be hard since Sideshow just released IG-88.

Just got the Falcon at TRU using the 20% off coupon that's good today only. Still only saved $15 over what Target is selling it for, but at least I have something to put together now. Hasbro's lack of product is rapidly driving me away from their stuff and towards lego.

I"m waiting until closer to the holidays so I won't be tempted to open it all at once. (Plus I might find it cheaper that way.)

What are the odds that we'll be able to find an advent SW set after Christmas, anyway? That doesn't have a completely destroyed/opened box, that is. :3720to1:

Oh you'll be able to find them no problem. I was able to get a Pirate Advent Calendar (http://guide.lugnet.com/set/6299) long after they sold out. The real question is how much is it going to cost you. Being Star Wars, I'm guess it will cost you a lot. ;)

Sale on them at Target, plus snagged a mini Republic Cruiser set, today. And the Advent box wasn't beaten up either.

I know it's technically 2012, but I got the new lego catalog today. Great looking star wars sets..... but PRICY!

55 dollars for the new TIE Fighter. It looks great, but that's too much. Too expensive to buy multiple sets.

Y-Wing looks great and reasonable at $50, as does the new X-Wing, however the 60 dollar price tag is too high.

The last new set is Anakins Clone war jedi fighter. It's just okay.

Finally got one this weekend for 19.90 at a wm. They had a ton left. Saving this one for next year (until the kids are old enough to read they won't know the difference.)

I haven't opened mine yet, to see if Target drops its price from when I bought it (as longs as it's over $8 difference).

The WM near me now has them "marked down" to $38.86. A bunch of other things in their clearance section have prices at or near what they were originally all of a sudden as well. I'm guessing someone doesn't know how to read a spreadsheet when inputing new prices into the computer. (Or they really think people will suddenly buy things at the old price just because it has a red sticker on it.)

Also, I saw the new X-wing at TRU yesterday. Very nice, but there's no way I'm paying $60 for it. I think the toy industry is in for a rude awakening as far as demand goes this year because of all the big price hikes.
