I've never heard of anyone winning any of the old Galoob contests to win the 24kt Gold Micro Machines. Does anyone have any of them, know anyone that has any, or ever seen any images of any of them? I'd love to own all of them but I don't know if any of them were ever even given away. I'm not even sure how the contests worked, never actually read the rules, for all I know the winning game pieces are probably still sealed in boxes somewhere, lol. If anyone has any info I'd love to hear from you.

Hmm, If I'd ever heard of this contest I'd forgotten about it. I would like to know this as well. The only gold sets I'd ever heard of were the Classic Series:

Classic Series I (http://www.miniempire.ca/index.php?page=detail&cat=micro&type=veh&item=95)
Classic Series II (http://www.miniempire.ca/index.php?page=detail&cat=micro&type=veh&item=96)
Classic Series III (http://www.miniempire.ca/index.php?page=detail&cat=micro&type=veh&item=97)

I feel like we did actually talk to someone who got the gold Falcon, but I cannot quite remember when or if that was here or on the Galoob Buzz Board.

Thanks to R2dee2, I have all those classic series gold sets, she found them for me at Big Lots.

Thanks JT. If you find any more info I'd appreciate it, I'd love to see actual pics of any of them.

I wish I got the gold plated sets at big lots or KB Toys, I'm probably one of the few that paid 69.99-74.99 buying them at retail. One was bought from Service Merchandise for 69.99, one from FAO Schwarz for 74.99 and I can't remember where the 3rd one was bought from, but I know I wasn't happy a few years later when KB Toy Works had them for 9.99 or whatever they were charging, lol. I recently read that they were available only by ordering directly through Galoob, but I know that was not true. I thought they were store exclusives. Who knows, all I know is I bought at least 2 of the 3 sets from the stores mentioned above. Imperial Shuttle I believe is the one I got from Service Merchandise.

Anyways, the gold plated sets are not what I was asking about. If you have a Double Takes Death Star or Millennium Falcon MM Playset, check thje package for info on the contests. Some of the DT Death Stars had a contest to win a Gold Death Star and some of the Falcon playsets had contests to win Gold Star Desroyer or Millennium Falcon. These are all Real Gold, not electroplated.

I seem to not have an image of the Millennium Falcon set with Star Destroyer Offer, I can't go take a pic right now, it's 1400 miles away, lol. Have to remember next time I get back to Boston.

Never knew they offered a Death Star, and I vaguely remember the Star Destroyer offer. I remember the Falcon offer pretty vividly, though. Mostly because I used to scheme with a friend about what we'd do if we got it, the most prevailing idea was to sell it and buy our elementary school (since it was gold it was obviously worth a major fortune) because it would somehow mean we wouldn't have to deal with classes anymore. :crazed:

The contest was in1996 and they made 30 of them, made of 24kt gold and 6.6 oz each.
The Grand prize was one of the thirty micro machines Destroyer which I inherited. It is #15 of 30 and came with a trophy stand. It has amazing detail and being 24kt gold has an incredible shine.
I just love to look at being a long time star wars fan.
So yes one lucky person actually won this prize ! And it is truly amazing collectors piece!

Nice to hear from an owner of one of the prizes! It would be awesome if you could take some pictures of it so we could see the glory for ourselves! Thanks!
