OK, not being an EU guy, I really didn't have much interest in the TRU EU wave that came out... last year, was it? But I could appreciate that people were sorta panicked over getting this wave. Well, cut to this year's ComicCon news about Walmart* getting an exclusive wave of figures that includes all-new sculpts of Ric Ollie, a Naboo pilot and Aurra Sing. It also includes a Gungan warrior with a staff, G8-R3 from the Royal Starship and Mawhonic. Despite the fact that Hasbro promises better distribution, I am really quite certain that most of these will be near impossible to find and getting them online won't be an option this time around.

Not really happy about that.

I'm mostly worried about Mawhonic. I'd like most of the others, but Mawhonic's been a "must-have" for 12 years for me.

Hopefully they'll ship in greater numbers than did the TRU EU wave. I'd like several Gungans and Naboo Pilots. Ric Oliť wasn't exactly the greatest seller the first time around, so hopefully having this as an exclusive will maintain the numbers well.

And it's not like they've never re-released hard-to-find figures, so I just don't think this is anything to worry about yet.

The frustrating thing for me about it is that I don't live close to any Walmarts. There are two within about a 30 minute drive but they're in opposite directions so if I go to one and strike out, I probably wouldn't feel like hitting the other that same day. Also, one of the two has the smallest toy section I've ever seen and just does not stock a lot, especially when it comes to exclusives.

For me, nothing will kill my interest in a line quicker than knowing that I'll never be able to "collect them all." I managed to stay with Star Wars anyway over the years, in spite of missing entire exclusive waves recently - most notably the mythical Toys R Us Expanded Universe wave, which people swear up and down did actually exist. Usually Toys R Us exclusives are no big trouble finding, but for some reason (and I'm finding lately that I'm far more interested in the EU than in more film characters) I never once saw even the slightest hint that these were ever available at retail. Online prices for those figures lead me to believe that I'm mostly correct. The harder it is for me to find figures at retail, the easier it becomes for me to be pick and choose rather than pulling my hair out to try and buy them all like I used to. Eventually I can see getting to the point where I won't even want to bother. I think exclusives only work in generating colector interest when the exclusivity is more an illusion than a threat.

Not that I trolled the TRUs of my area, but I never saw a hint of these figures at any of them. They never even had the re-distributed figures that filled out the wave, so I know that if they did ship, they were in VERY small numbers.

I don't collect every single figure, but there are a few in this wave that I would definitely like to get and I have a feeling that it ain't a-gonna happen.

I'm not liking this concept at all... Walmart has the worst distribution system and I'm almost 100% positive that I will eventually have to resort to Ebay to get these figures.... way to go Hasbro! Are you trying to kill off your buyers?

I'm actually glad that Hasbro is showing some restraint for Ep1 3D release. The last thing I want is TPM figures clogging up the pegs for the entirety of 2012. There's really nothing in the Walmart wave that I consider a "must have" so I'm not too worried if I never see any of them.

Well, there's still more TPM stuff coming that they'll announce at New York Comic Con in October. They've already confirmed a Naboo Starfighter resculpt and mentioned a new TPM movie line that integrates electronics in a new way. I don't know how well the 3D release will go, but I think they need to maintain a balance between the oversaturation of 1999 and... well, the complete and utter lack of TPM stuff since then. I'm pleased with what they've shown so far and I hope this will be a good opportunity to check off some of the things they've never done before (already starting with the pod racers, last Amidala, and vintage cards). I also find it interesting that they're taking the initiative to move beyond the movie with figures kind of related to it but not completely, like Quinlan Vos and Jedi training Anakin; I wonder how much of that we'll see.

As for the TRU EU wave, I did find them in the store, but I had to ask an employee to look in the back after I was told that they had received several cases that morning that were completely bought up by a group of collectors within a matter of minutes. The spacetrooper is already re-shipping in the current Saga Legends wave, and I have to think we'll see the others again at some point or another.

I'm happy that it's a Wal-Mart exclusive, considering it's the only store in my area that gets exclusives, besides K-Mart.

So I have popped by a couple of Walmarts this weekend and have discovered that they all seem to have broken the street date with new Clone Wars and Movie Heroes figures on the shelves. I even found the New vehicle assortments with Anakin and Sebulba's Podracers and the titanium sets. However, neither store had the exclusive battle packs, figures, or the vulture droid nor did they have tags for them on the shelves. My thought is that if Walmart had these items in the back room they would be out already, no? They didn't care about the street date for anything else, so why these items? If that's the case, would it be a waste of time to go by tomorrow morning since I've already got all the Vintage and Movie heroes figures I want?

JediTempleArchives (http://www.jeditemplearchives.com/content/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=9277) reports that the Discover the Force figures and multipacks might not make it out for a few more days. People have already found the Vulture Droid, Dewback, and role-play Qui-Gon Ultimate FX lightsaber from the subline, so who knows.

Went to WM this morning upon opening, and sure enough, they had nothing but the Legends figure, and a lone Naboo Guard, along with a handful of the "Revenge" series figures. No sign of the exclusives, a lot of empty pegs, and me wondering if that Guard figure was a remnant of a single case going out early, or a return from someone who ordered a case online. Just gonna' have to keep checking to get Ric Olie - at least Mawhonic will be back out later on as a Vintage fig.

I went to three Walmarts this morning and none of them had the exclusive range out for sale and there was nothing to indicate they had a special section where they would be going.

They've had them at my Walmart for over a week now. I picked up Mawhonic just because he is so cool looking. Not really interested in the others.

From what I understand, with the exception of 2, most of these figures are going to be repackaged as non-exclusives in the Vintage Collection at the end of the year. I think only the astromech and Ric Olie aren't going to make it over to TVC.

You are correct, sir. And there is more discussion on this wave in the Movie Heroes section.
