Can you believe it has been 10 years since these forums debuted?

Wow.

I remember joining SSG in 2000 and when the upgrade happened it was like going from a Nash Rambler to a Cadillac. Image capabilities, extensive emoticons, smoother navigating, all features that made the forums state-of-the-art.

To be a member of anything for 10 years is a feat. That's a 1/3 of my life.

I think August 2001ers should unite in their own separate forums, be given engraved smoking jackets and keys to the executive washroom.

happy anniversary, forums!

My history:
I started browsing SSG sometime in 1997 (I think) for SW news
I started posting at SSG sometime in late 1999 / early 2000 as an eternal padawan on the old forums
I still remember visiting that day in August 2001, only to find the forums had been re-booted and we all had to re-register
The past 10 years have been filled with shenanigans of all kinds. ;)
I was 19 when I first visited SSG and now I'm 33...weird.

And 2-1B didn't mention he brought me along for this SSG ride, so if any of you don't like me you know whom to blame!

I was new to the Internet in '99, and with E1 out soon, I was browsing search engines (still don't know which one for sure, but I believe AltaVista was my preferred searcher then) for Star Wars stuff (items, info, pics). Came across the Old Forums at SSG; I haven't left (for good) since (although I had a brief hiatus in Ought Five, plus all the ICE issues that often had us creating new user names to log in). Sadly, one of the big uniting threads and issues back in 2001 is also coming up on a 10-year anniversary next month. :(

I remember first joining in early 2001, just before the big switch. That's back when I thought "SirSteve" was a reference to Steve Sansweet. :o

10 years ago I was 20 something and my wife and I were expecting our first child. My daughter started 4th grade last week!

And I wasn't?!?

You're completely ageless to me, JJB!! :)

Remember that dark period this place went through? All those flamewars, what's-his-face who allegedly knew Natalie Portman. Good times!! LOL

10 years ago, I was about 50 pounds lighter than I am now, and a lot less of these old man aches and pains. I was also single, but didn't care, wait, come to think of it, I was dating, but only saw the woman twice a week, no wonder I was happy!

Remember all the threads and long threads that began this day a decade ago? :loyal: SSG really came together then.

I thought of the original 9/11 thread today and how poignant it was since it contained posts from that fateful day and beyond. I know it was bumped a few times after the first year but my limited ability to search the forums for it proved very fruitless.

I found this one, not the one I first thought of from 9/11 but this has a lot of commentary from SSG members:

Is this (http://www.sirstevesguide.com/showthread.php/804-World-Trade-Center-Terrorist-Attacks) what you were looking for?

It's kind of surreal reading my early comments in those threads. I forgot about all the security measures we went through on the base and just how convinced I was that I would be "stop-lossed" and in Afghanistan within the year.

I did get out of the Army in February of 2002, but I tried reenlisting again in 2003 when the Iraq War kicked off. However, there was a snafu with my urinalysis test, because my recruiter didn't listen to the instructions from the processing station, and I was disqualified for a year. By 2004, I was so far along towards getting my degree that I didn't attempt to reapply. (In case anyone is wondering, no, I've never done drugs, I just have problems peeing with someone standing right next to me watching me.)
