Much like my Japan thread 4 years ago I'm doing it again. And I'm done. I'm already here but since I haven't been to the forums lately I'll just start from the beginning.

I'm in a relatively safe job being a postal clerk. It's a definite IQ drop for me since my normal Navy job is being an instructor on radio and RADAR theory. Anywho, I started my training back in May and I just got to Bagram Air Base today. I'm not sure how long I'll be here but it's not my ultimate destination. Hopefully soon I'll be able to stop living out of a damn backpack!

I salute you from afar, Slick! And I echo JP's comment of safe living.

Wow! Thanks, good luck and stay safe!

Stay safe. I spent 15 months mostly at Bagram. We were based out of the warehouse behind Craig Joint Theater Hospital, on the flight line...well, technically Medical Maintenance was in an ISO behind the warehouse.

Bagram is pretty cool. Are you living in the barracks or the B-huts?

We're living in tents right now. They have us over at Camp Warrior. I guess it's since we're basically just passing through on our way out to our FOB's.

Jeez, that's wild, Slick. Take care of yourself, Mister Postman.

Ugh, not the RSOI tents. Those things are homeless shelters for troops, only they smell worse. :concern:

That's exactly the way I felt. They remind me a LOT of "Freedom Town" from the beginning of Scarface.

My cousin was at Bagram this year.

Slick, take care Sir. :loyal:

Don't forget to bring sandpaper. It'll be handy for you in case you get lost. :emmersed:

Be safe and you'll be back stateside before you know it.

Well, I'm back...sort of. I'm on my R&R (rest and relaxation) and I'm in Florida for a few weeks before heading back. For some reason I can get on this site over there (it's blocked on our computers) but I can thankfully get on Facebook. *phew*

Of course you can't. Your job is to hunt down terrorism. This place, being a Star Wars fan site, is a well known hive of scum and villainy. Conflicting interests. :D

It's because JediTricks is secretly Julian Assange. And because half the members are secret Cobra Vipers.

Or because Facebook blocks any jokes about parent status, whereas SSG does not.

Thank you JimmyJammy. It's good to be home. It honestly doesn't even feel like I was gone. I came home and got right back into my lazy useless ways.

Ugh. I'm still over in this hell hole but I'm under 2 months until I'm gone. I'm hanging in there and haven't had any close calls since the beginning of the deployment.

Of course not. Even al-Qaeda knows not to incur the jihad of Slicker's mom upon Afghanistan. :D

Hang in there Slick, and keep your head down. Get out of there soon and then tell us all about it.

You back yet? I think I can smell something, and wasn't sure if it was you or a diaper in the trash can.

:p

Can we expect you're coming home with one of these? Safe trip home, sir!Indeed I will be getting one of those. I'll also be getting the NATO medal with ISAF clasp, and the Army Commendation Medal. I should be home within a week so I can't wait. I need a real beer. O'Douls just doesn't do the trick...

Thumbsup on the new chest candy! Your service is appreciated, sir!

O'Douls = devil's spawn.

It's actually not that bad. I'm one of those weird people that actually likes the taste of beer so it satisfies that need. As for getting a buzz it's completely insufficient.

Then I guess you'd need to drink more of it then to get a buzz.

I like the taste of beer, too. But O'Douls of others of its ilk fail miserably IMO. Beer should taste like liquid bread. Not flavored. Not watered down. No low calorie. Just good ol' grain squeezins!

Then I guess you'd need to drink more of it then to get a buzz.Out on the ship we seriously tried that. Seeing as it has (allegedly) about .5% alcohol we tried to drink about 10 of them really fast to see if it did anything...we threw up.

So in the end it had the same result. That sounds like some serious gut rot if you do that!

I'm finally home! I'm not in Florida yet but I'm done with all of my checking out of the Army and will be back in Florida tomorrow. I can't wait to get back and get to normalcy (thank you Warren Harding for that word).

I'd like to thank everyone here for the support and the chatting with certain members when there was nobody else to talk with. Definitely a great group of people here!
