View Full Version : What do you think about pop-up ads?

I am not talking about the ones that hit you on every page. Just like how certain sites use 1 pop-up PER DAY on just the home page or just the news page? I'd like your feedback on this.

. . .just as soon as i can find the "VomiT" emoticon ;)

I wouldn't like something that pops up on every page (if I'm being a bad boy and going online at work and shrink the window as soon as clicking on a link, the pop-up brings both windows to the top, which is rather difficult to hide). One a day, though, wouldn't be too bad.

obviously it would be better not to have em at all.......but we understand you got's bills to pay etc, etc,......

Honestly, they are extremely annoying. BUT, sometimes it is needed, and understood. I only ask that there not be one on every page. If it only occurs at the homepage then its not that big of a deal.

As evenflow said, annoying but understandable.

I agree, one pop-up on the homepage wouldn't be so bad. A little one:D

I really dislike pop-ups, but as long as you can just click on it to close without another one opening I can get past it. I'd rather deal with that than have to pay to access SSG.

What about a pop-UNDER (goes BEHIND your current window) and have it set to just once per session (meaning if you close it and come back later that day, assuming your computer has not been restarted, it does not appear again)?

If everyone would continue to support our advertisers (by clicking them), it would greatly be appreciated!

I can get behind the pop-up. You know what is strange? I would have tolerated it either way, but the simple act of asking our opinion will keep it from even annoying me. That is appreciated.

P.S. - Shouldn't this be in the poll section? ;)

I see pop-up everywhere so I'm tired of 'em.

All I ask is it doesn't pop up while we are on the forums and one aday is Ok.

Only on the home page is where they will be. Sponsor ads will be added to the top of the forums, but not pop-ups. A pop-UNDER will only be on the home page and it will never be in the way of your content! It would also only pop-up once per dat (as long as you don't restart). Again, A pop-UNDER goes BEHIND the window you are viewing. If we decide to test it, this is the route we would go.

I can see no problem with once every visit. I come her a few times a day to browse and chew the cudd, and having a revenue building pop up show every time I log in isn't so bad. Especially if you're going to limit where it pops up. Navigating this new forum system can be painfully slow for me and I don't think I would want a pop up every page slowing my visits down further. but like I said, once every visit would be just fine because you'd know where they were coming and be prepared. Random pop ups are just the bane of internet life. :)

Are you able to select from a list of products or services to advertise, or must you go with what your given? Just curious.

Pop Up ads aren't so bad now that I havethis program that kills all pop ups after you have seen it once. So, I'll only see it once.

And where do I get this program, Mr. Dong?

Why do you ask "What do you think about pop-up ads?" Steve?

Are you thinking of using them here?

Is this a padding attempt? To ask a question that is already answered above?

Master Jedi,

I don't remember exactly where I downloaded it from, but the program is called POW. It is free, and I imagine if you do a search for it, you'll be able to find it.

It would be just a single Star Wars ad. We always try to serve you meaningful ads.

One pop under per day would be ok with me, if it keeps the site up and in business and free.

One has started popping UNDER. There will only be ONE (on the homepage).

I don't mind the Galidor pop-ups at all, I've found them easy enough to deal with.

SirSteve, what ever became of the Pop Under ads?
I don't recall them from last year, and . . . well, I know there've been some complaints lately so I'm wondering where Pop Unders might fit into the issue. :)
Are they still a possibility?

I don't like pop ups but I have no way of stopping them from coming up. :)

As an upstanding supporter of the American economy, I give pop up ads the due respect they deserve.

I don't mind pop ups as long as it is just one of them, and it isn't annoying. As long as I can close it right away I have no problem with them.

As long as they download quickly and don't keep the page I'm accessing from opening, I don't mind them THAT much.

Those new "Galidor" or whaveter ads are cool because they "look" cool. Some other ads that use Flash technology (like those Casino ads on which by just pointing your mouse you scratch a square or whatever) are... amusing? for ther interactivity. Those are about the online pop-ups I tolerate. The rest are annoying, but... yes, they're a necessary evil.

I hate the Galidor ads, and the other flash ones, as well as ones that have fake close and minimize buttons on them.
