There is still time before NCAA basketball games really mean something, but it's another season again!

Ohio State breaks Marquette's long home win streak. YSU goes up against a big boy in UMass and as expected, doesn't win. Pitt's going for a 3-0 start. But the Div. III player who scored over 100 points last year did it again this year; his scoring average is 90.0 ppg now!

The fall and winter tournaments should be starting soon, too!

Pitt played YSU... and my team won! ;) Panthers remain undefeated with a pretty tame schedule so far (just wait 'til they get their first ACC games in). Buckeyes are also unblemished in the loss column, also with an easy schedule. YSU's Penguins are a respectable 7-5 to begin the year.

Didn't realize that YSU would get national airtime: they hung in there for most of the game against St. John's; MOST of the way. :( But the Penguins, should they make the NCAA tourney, could upset some upper seed IMHO. Yeah, I'll admit, I turned off the last 2:00 or so of the OSU/ND game, and therefore missed a nice comeback win. I also missed Pitt's 1-point loss to a quality opponent (Cincy) this week, instead of their common cupcake teams they beat.

The source vs mu game was terrible, wisconsin I soggy to a great start, but for the most part NCAA basketball gets a "meh" from this guy.

No shame in losing at Michigan St., but still sad to see the "chance" at an undefeated season go for the Buckeyes.

YSU gets its 10th win, and first conference victory.

Pitt won its second ACC game in as many games, only 1 loss in 15 played overall.

Pitt's transition into the ACC has been pretty strong, despite a loss to Duke (not an uncommon happening) at home recently. Ohio St. is... not so strong in their run of Big 10,11,12 Do I Hear 13,13? Conference games (they go to Madison for UW today). YSU's been steady after a strong start to the season, losing on late FTs yesterday.

Duke vs. Syracuse will have two 900+ win coaches squaring off. Let the hype begin!

Bel-Cam Jos

It's been tough lately: yesterday's comeback win only put YSU at one game over .500; Pitt loses yet another close one versus a traditionally strong ACC team (UNC, after the buzzer-beater loss to former Big East power 'Cuse); OSU wins at Illinois by coming back, after other losses in recent weeks.

Bel-Cam Jos

Conference tourneys (many of the "big" ones) start (or end) this week. YSU lost in early rounds last week, but worse than that, finished 15-17 and are not going to receive any post-season bids. :( Pitt finished in 5th place in their first ACC year, while OSU was also 5th. We'll see how those tournaments go, but I'm sure both will make the NCAAs, likely no higher than 4 or 5 seeds, unless either wins this week or makes a long run there.

Bel-Cam Jos
03-17-2014, 04:11 PM
... or, Pitt and OSU could both end up with terrible draws. :( Pitt a #9, and up against a likely Florida game after opening games; Buckeyes in the same regional.

My Sweet Sixteen:
Florida/UCLA, Ohio St./New Mexico
Virginia/Michigan St., Iowa St./St. Joe's
Arizona/San Diego St., Baylor/Oregon
Wichita St./Louisville, Duke/Michigan

Final Four:
Ohio St. beats Michigan St. in a Big 10 rematch, while Louisville takes out local Cinderella San Diego St. The Buckeyes win it all, in my dreams.

Forget I posted my bracket's champ. First time in all my years doing brackets (almost always just for kicks) that my pick to win it all loses in the FIRST ROUND. Go, Pitt!

Bel-Cam Jos
03-24-2014, 09:32 AM
Still have 10 of the Sweet 16 left, and 3 of the Final 4 (minus OSU, of course :( ). Pitt was close with Florida, but that half-buzzer beater was the nail. :( Wichita St. was a gamer; they were the team I'd have backed to keep going (along with "Dayton-ella" ).

Bel-Cam Jos
03-30-2014, 06:35 PM
The final four (lower case) teams are now set, and I have none of them in my busted bracket. Stats? I picked 58% of all the tournament games, and by the Elite Eight (I had 3 of them), it was clear I knew nothing pick-wise this season. :( Who am I routing for? Florida: nope. Kentucky: nope. UConn: nah. So by default: Wisconsin. Go Big 10/11/12!

JimJamBonds

Pretty much nobody thats who.

Syracuse let me down this year....started off so well, 25-0. Had one of their stud players Jerami Grant out for a handful of games and it really did them in. When he did come back, they just didn't gel like they had earlier.

JimJamBonds
04-12-2014, 09:15 PM
Wisconsin is a top 5 team for next season, while I'd love to see them get back to the final four (4 starters return) I think that is a tall, tall task.

Bel-Cam Jos
11-18-2014, 09:57 PM
Cue the cupcakes! That must mean the new season has returned. Pitt and OSU are both 2-0, and it's too early to get down on YSU (currently 1-2).

Bel-Cam Jos
11-27-2014, 04:41 PM
Pitt turned a close first-half game into a rout of Kansas St. in Hawai'i, #20 Ohio State was up big throughout versus Campbell at home, and Youngstown State held on against UMKC (which sounds like a choking sound on Turkey Day).

Tomorrow will be fun. Shouldn't be too tough to beat the intensity of today's games.

EDIT: Meant to post this in the College Football thread.

Pitt upsets a top-10 ranked Notre Dame, one of the two remaining undefeated teams gets defeated (now just UK's left), and YSU didn't lose (because they play today; and have a chance to actually win, too).

Bel-Cam Jos
02-15-2015, 12:40 PM
Another Pitt upset, beating UNC just after the passing of Dean Smith. Ohio State was tied but a nice 3-pointer in the waning seconds gave Michigan State the win. Youngstown State plays today, trying to break a 4-game losing streak (and 11 of 12 :( ). Kentucky's still undefeated (last men's Div. 1 team to be so).

Bel-Cam Jos
02-22-2015, 08:44 AM
It's almost March, and you know what that means: brackets, bubbles, and... uh, basketball teams?

Pitt gets a boost with a road win against its Big East rival 'Cuse (where The 'Xir for comment?), YSU is still its conference's worst team :( but not by RPI (only SECOND worst! ). Ohio St. gets its rival on the road today. And Kentucky wins again; I'm not sure how I feel about their chances at an undefeated season (or, should I say, Coach Cal's chances).

Bel-Cam Jos
03-01-2015, 10:55 PM
Not a good weekend: Pitt, while a Vegas 'dog, still loses to an-under-.500 Wake Forest team on the road; YSU loses again to reach 20 losses on the year; and OSU does win, but barely, at home.

Bel-Cam Jos
03-08-2015, 06:17 PM
YSU, as its ranking and overall record predicted, lost in the 1st round of the Horizon conference tourney. OSU got run over by Wisconsin in the last game before the B16 Ten tournament (we'll see where they're seeded). Pitt lost against FSU, and gets a #10 seed vs. #7 NC State in the ACC bracket, for a chance at... #2 Duke. Hmm.

Bel-Cam Jos
03-14-2015, 03:03 PM
Tomorrow's the selection day. Ohio State will be there, but where? (experts seem to have them between a #6-9 seed). Regionals are in the LA area, maybe if the Buckeyes win some games, I can see them win in person. What seed will Pitt get in the NIT (or perhaps the CBI)?

JimJamBonds
03-14-2015, 06:35 PM
With Va and Duke bowing out early in the ACC tourney hopefully that means Wisconsin will get a #1 seed thus avoiding Kentucky until the Final Four.

Bel-Cam Jos
03-15-2015, 09:33 PM
Congrats on the #1 seed, JJB.
One of the seven B16 Ten teams to make it, Ohio State, gets a tough 7-10 matchup versus VCU out west.
Pitt at least gets to host an NIT game, as a #4 vs. #5 George Washington.

Thanks BCJ, I caught the last 11ish minutes of regulation yesterday and did it make some good viewing while on the treadmill!

I went with some chalk, but some oddities, too, for my bracket:

MIDWEST
Kentucky to play Cincinnati
Buffalo to play Valparaiso
Butler to play Notre Dame
Kansas to play Wichita St.

WEST
Wisconsin to play OK St.
North Carolina to play Wofford
Arizona to play Ohio St.
Ole Miss to play Baylor

EAST
Villanova to play NC State
Virginia to play Michigan St.
Albany to play Dayton
N. Iowa to play Louisville

SOUTH
Duke to play San Diego St.
SMU to play Iowa St.
Gonzaga to play Davidson
Utah to play E. Washington

Elite 8:
Kentucky beats Wichita St.
Arizona beats N. Carolina
Michigan St. beats NC State
Duke beats Gonzaga

Kentucky (I guess...) beats Michigan St. for a 40-0 season.

After a Great 8 rematch against Arizona the Badgers have another rematch from last year against the Wildcats. Hopefully this game will go better then their meeting a year ago. #GoBadgers #isobars

So, I picked 3 of the 4 (if Arizona had won yesterday, I'd have been perfect). One of the most steady brackets I've ever filled out, but as always, not for any moola, just for fun-la.

Congratulations, Wisconsin on winning the NCAA basketball championship!

... is what I hope to be able to say come Monday night (hey; my high school has the same fight song so I gotta root for them now). That game vs. Kentucky was a great one, while Michigan St. just got boat-raced by Duke.

I hope I can say that as well. I just hope there isn't a let down tomorrow night. Last week I started a new job and if it weren't for that I be in Indy tomorrow for that game (Indy is about 6 hours away). #stupidbetterpayingnewjob

Ehh thats fine BCJ. People on the interwebs have been complaining about the refs but they can't seem to explain how the refs stopped them from scoring for 4 minutes. They lost it themselves plain and simple.

Much of the Final Four was final foul; the officiating was inconsistent and terrible. Aside from the Spartans, any of those teams could cry "unfair."
