Appart from any cut scenes, what scenes would you like to see created for the Archival Editions?

I'd like to see a scene on Alderaan as the green laser is on it. Everything could be green and Bail Organa could say something along the lines of "What on Alderaan is going..." then KABOOM!

A scene on Coruscant with Emperor Palpatine talking to Vader.

A redo of the hologram in TESB replacing the strange woman with Ian McDiarmid.

If Jar Jar doesn't die in the prequels there should be a shot of Naboo with Jar Jar clumbsily killing himself, or an annoyed Queen killing him. (Hey I can dream can't I!!! (Sorry if I've offended you JJB, but I don't like Gungans!!!))

That's all I can think of for now.

Better yet, JarJar is standing on Alderaan exactly where the laser beam hits so he gets it the worst. Just like in Independence Day.:D

Definitely redo the Chimp hologram Emperor.

Make the Hoth battle more epic with digitally inserted ground troops on both sides, and more Alliance artillery and ground vehicles and some kind of Imperial aircraft. it has to compare with the AOTC battle and presumably the giant battle at the beginning of Episode III. And show the Rebellion getting more thorougly trounced like showing two out of every three transports getting caught or destroyed.

If theres no Alderaan in III, then definitely show it in ANH. All those beautiful McQuarrie paintings going to waste? For shame.

The Emperor and Vader in the ruined Jedi Temple sounds pretty cool.

They've also been working on a new version of Obi Wan "dying" that wasn't good enough for the Special Edition but Lucas feverishly wants to put in the Archival Edition...

Hopefully he will actually vanish as the saber cuts him in two, instead of them having to jump cut to an angle of Ben's cloak falling to the floor with no Ben inside. Not to mention the cloak seemed to be whole, even though it should have been cut in half as well. Pretty intresting that Obi-Wan killed Maul, in the same manner as Vader will kill him years later.

As for midoclorians in the Archival Edition versions of the OT, it's not really necissary. It's just a blood test to see if someone is capable of having a good connection to the force. Having a higher count doesn't gives them any advantage over anyone else. There are the factor's such as training and disapline that matter more. That's probably what Yoda and Ben consider most important, since Anakin/Vader pretty much wiped the rest of their kind out. Please no calling that a spoiler, we have known that since the original trilogy. :D

IfLucas really wants to ape the saturday morning serials like Flash Gordon from the 1930's and whatnot, then he should add sectios to the end of each movie that shows highlights of the next chapter. A mini trailer as it were. But in keeping with those serials from the 30's the trailers don't match the next chapter exactly. he uses alternate shots or angles to make the trailers. So you see Han being tortured on Bespin say and it's really a different shot to that used in the movie or there's a different shot of Luke and Yoda training, something not seen yet. An ou take but still from the same sequence. You get the drift?

The mini trailers still tell the story but are just that little bit different. It's how the serials did it. They always reshot the scenes from the trailers for the actual episodes and they were never quite the same. Always a slightly different camera angle or the actors didn't move the same way or something.

I'd like to see Alderaan in all it's glory. Cut from Tarkin saying "you may fire when ready" to a beautiful green meadow overlooking the main city of Alderaan as a farmer tends his beasts. A Thranta flies overhead and off toward the city cut to the city itself glittering in the morning sunlight. Cut to the chambers of bail organa as he plays a holo game with his childrenand his wife looks on as she sits looking out at the city.just as a huge shadow passes overhead and she looks up to see the death star in the morning sky like a black moon, it eclipses the sun there is a deathly hush. Cut to space and the death star laser beginning to fire. Cut to Alderaan and Organa's chambers as he gathers the family to look out the window while screaming something to an aide. And then the green flash from the death star. A brief moment and the world explodes in a blinding flash. Cut to space as the planet is ripped apart and the SE supanova FX............

Something like that... :)

Chimp emporer first thing.
The idea of the Trailers is great.I would really enjoy those. And Alderan really should be seen more than just from orbit.Even if it's only for reaction at the time of detruction.
I like the idea of up scaling the Battle of Hoth too.
I'd like to see a longer version of the Falcon in the asteroid field in ESB.
Maybe a little dog fighting?
and of course alot of the deleted scenes but you were looking for things other than those

Rollo Tomassi

Something else I just thought of. The Falcon escapes from the Death Star and has a dogfight with the TIE fighters. It's all interior shots from the gun turrets with the exception of a few shots of a TIE "flying" past the Falcon's Rectenna dish. Add some CGI Falcon and TIEs whipping around each other.

The crappy Death Star plans on Yavin can be upgraded to a hologram type image ala Jedi. I cringe at the Atari screen image.

And I agree with Dryanta in spiffing up the ESB asteroid belt to make it comparable with the AOTC one.

Well, it's a whole planet we're talking about here. tarkin calmly orders the mass genocide of a world and all it gets is one little fizzbang explosion. It doesn't begin to chill like it should as it stands. I'm sure there's a better shot of carrie fisher they could use for a reaction. And add in the shot of vader leading her away as she looks totally devastated by the loss. It's just seconds of footage we're talking of here but it would make total sense of the awesome and disgustingly vile power of the death star. As it stands I feel it's just a big grey hamster ball in the sky. But putting something into ANH that shows why ben senses all those lives lost or however many voices crying out and then being silenced. Ben feels it, leia shows it but we never get to feel it.

If the death star is the ultimate weapon then show us why. Don't tell us - show us. That's the golden rule of cinema. george should know that.

I like the idea of spiffing up Hoth too. Don't know about adding in more craft but certainly more fighting. More troops skirmishing with snowtroopers in the base or just outside. More damage done by the AT-AT's The transports being blown out of the sky. People dying in the base as it collapses. Leave the Wampa thing out though. It's a comedy moment that isn't really funny. But maybe they could finally add in the Wampa attack on the rebels in the corridor now that we have fairly decent CGI technology. I know it's adding in yet more CGI but it would make sense of why the Tauntaun was killed inside the base and they do have the footage of the scene to use. Just not the scene with 3PO taking the label off the door and the troopers walking into the Wampa pen. No trooper, even an Imperial would be that stupid.

The asteroid field needs upgrading slightly to match AOTC but only in as much as the bluescreening from the early 80's looks poo these days. Just clean it up. maybe add a couple more shots in but not a lot.

They must have filmed more of Mark Hamill and Yoda on Dagobah. More training sequences. Shove that in to show Yoda really working Luke. It seems like a pushover to become a Jedi wit the scant training Luke recieves in the movie.
Similarly, there must be more Bespin scenes we haven't seen. One in particular is the extended torture of han. I want to see those sparks really flying. See the pain on his face and show yet again what a bastard vader is. In the OT Vader spends most of his time just standing around watching like a pervy voyeur. Let's see him turn the dials or something to make Han suffer.

Change the holo Emperor for Ian McDiarmid. That has to be on every fans list. It sucks as it is and neeeeeeeeds redoing.

Same with the death star plans as Rollo suggested. Those atari readouts were great way back when but seriously could do with the CGI treatment somehow.

The black lines round the Rancor need removing. Of all the scenes in ROTJ, this is the worst. Increase the contrast of the background so Luke doesn't look washed out and remove the matte lines round the Rancor. Simple to do and it would so enhance that scene.

Redub the anchorhead scenes and insert them. As I understand it the reason they were dumped is because the acting was diabolical. Well as it's a talky segment anyway the acting doesn't need to be brilliant just overdubbed with more interesting voices.
I don't mean luke or biggs although i'm sure they could still do that. But Camie and Fixer and Deak or whoever it is. Put back the Moisture vaporator scene where Luke sees the battle in space. go to the shot of luke nearly knocking down the old woman, then give us the anchorhead mocking luke scene and the farewell from biggs. I know it makes the beginning of the movie longer but with scoring and better dialogue dubs and better CGI backgrounds to match the SE versions I'm sure it could work. I mean it's a slow scene but the idea of Anchorhead and Tatooine is that it's a slow dull place that Luke dreams of leaving. The way things stand now Tatooine looks like a fairly exciting place to be. jawas, Tusken raiders, Pod racing spaceports. Military patrols. Looks like fun. Adding in the cut scenes would give us a sense of what a dull place it is. That it's the place farthest from the bright spot in the galaxy.

I'd like to see Qui-Gon included somewhere. If Jar Jar doesn't die, him in there somewhere, and the Emperor scene in ESB redone.

I would also like to see the cut scenes put in.

Hey EJ .I agree about the anchorhead scene. But I doubt it'll happen.I heard the scenes were scrapped because the actress who played Cammie was discovered to be a porn star.Bad P.R. and all that.Have you seen the footage on the Behind the Magic CD rom?
Pretty good.not very long but it would add alot to the story

Jargo
03-19-2002, 06:04 PM
I've only seen a bad copy that someone pirated and shoved on their website. I couldn't get hold of a copy of the behind the magic CD ROM unfortunately. Now that it's been mentioned there seems to be more than reason the anchrhead scenes got cut. The bad acting. The Koo Stark porn thing and the studio execs saying they didn't like Luke only coming into the movie after twenty minutes and Lucas filming this sequence to keep the studio happy but then cutting it cuz he didn't like it.

Either way, i read the book before seeing the movie and I grew up with the Anchorhead scenes in my head so I'd like to see them. hell, with CGI he could digitally replace Koo Stark with another actress if he wanted to. But Luke seeing the battle in the sky above was a great sequence and then his friends doubting him gave real credence to his character. it told you so much about luke. All we get now is this bland whiney kid that you don'r really care about until the rescue attempt on Leia. That's the first time he actually comes alive. So for the characters sake I hope we do get the Anchorhead scenes revived.

I know PENDO wanted only stuff that wasn't a cut scene but IMO the Anchorhead sequence is vital to Luke's character development as far as us the viewers are concerned. :)

There was another scene with Beru too. It's a tiny scene where she converses with either Luke or Owen but we get to see so little of her and she's quite important or she wouldn't be there. She's the mother figure to Luke and that gives her the same role that Shmi has. The strength behind the hero. To cut her out ws just dumb unless it tiedinto the Anchorhead sequence. Throw it all back in. Jazz it up with the computer and clean it up a little. Improve the sound quality and bobs your lobster! A revitalised first half of the movie.

Also they should put back the Imperials getting blasted in the chest in the detention block. Cut Luke's scream from ESB in the reactor shaft fall. Reinstate Han shooting first in the Cantina. Do something with the space slug to make it look less like someones hand in a puppet. Give it more dynamics let it eat a tie fighter or two or something. Just make it more real.

Rollo Tomassi
03-19-2002, 11:36 PM
Now that I think about it, the dynamic between the Giant lumbering AT-ATs and the swift little snowspeeders would be ruined if you added a bunch of CGI craft in on both sides. But definitely show tons more Imperial Ground troops (maybe some disembarking from an AT-AT?) and a THOROUGH trouncing of the Alliance. This was supposed to be the battle that forced the Rebellion into their all or nothing last stand at Endor, but I never get that sense from the movie. They seemed inconvenienced, but not utterly defeated. C'mon George! You blew up an entire planet in ANH, why not shuck a few escaping Rebel transports full of cannon fodder? Show us the Empire REALLY striking back, for Pete's sake.

Yeah, I mean we don't even see Vader land on Hoth. One minute he is on his Star Destroyer and the next he is entering Echo Base. What's up with that. I'd like to see his shuttle land and him approach the base with a ton of Snowtroopers.

I'd like to see portions of the alternative cantina scene used. Maybe the shot of Han and Jenny smooching? Also, the Anchorhead footage really needs to be added. Considering the footage of Luke interacting with Biggs and Red Leader in the hanger was used in the SE. It would make more sense.

MikeAndTheBots
05-19-2002, 09:38 PM
I think Bail Organa should stay out of the OT. I mean i just don't think It'd look right. But they should have alderaan being blown up and cut to the planet as everything is blown away. Maybe add some more troops and stuff to Hoth and re-do the Emporer in ESB. Also, the could really make Luke's and Obi-Wan's (and even Vader's) sabers look better in ANH.

Now that I've seen AOTC, not only does the ATARI readout need to be replaced on Yavin, but the kiddie-pool that Dodonna, Leia , and 3PO are standing in front of needs to be upgraded to that 3D map thing that Dooku and Poggle are watching in AOTC. That was cool and I want a toy made of it, pronto.

I love the idea of an enhanced Hoth battle! I kind of imagine seeing an AT-AT crouched down after just releasing all of it's troops in the background. In the foreground we see Vader with thousands of Snowtroopers behind him, Vader walking casually in front, deflecting blaster bolts with little effort. As the AT-AT stands back up the camera follows it and pans around to see hundreds of Rebel troops clashing with thousands of Imperial Snowtroopers, with several AT-STs in the fray taking out clumps of Rebels and the Gun Turrets.

That would be cool.

One small note on ever seeing the original theatrical releases on DVD. Not going to happen in George's lifetime. Here's a small excerpt from the newest Insider:

Asked if there's a possibility of including the original versions as alternate tracks, to show the evolution of the films, showcase the state-of-the-art of the era, and preserve film history, Lucas said simply, "I don't think so. I think of the film as The Special Edition. I don't think of it as the early version, any more than I would put early rough cuts on.... I consider The Special Edition as being the final version at this point. I don't even worry about the other ones, because it went through a lot of incarnations to get to the final stage."

Eternal Padawan
05-22-2002, 10:11 AM
Comparing the Original Theatrical version to a "rough cut" is ludicrous. We all saw the original and had twenty years to fall in love with it. It's why most of us are Star Wars fans. Nobody fell in love with Greedo shooting first or CGI Jabba. It's time to rethink your position on this matter George.

I agree. Why is GL being so stubborn. I for one want the original release of the film and not the cr*ppy Special Editions. I'm sure everyone is going to be happy having to see Greedo fire first for the rest of their lives. Come on George, it's time to do something right for a change instead of being a little cry baby because you think that the original release wasn't good enough. Well if it wasn't good enough , then would there have even been a fan base for the last 25 years? At least do the right thing and do a two disc set like Spielberg is doing to E.T., one disc for the Original release and one for the Special Edition release. I can guarantee that there will be a lot of unhappy fans if he just releases the Special Edition. I swear GL has lost touch with his fans. It seems to me that he doesn't even care anymore. I suggest that Tycho does a poll for which vesion would we purchase on DVD if we had the choice between the two.

They're both good--but the original trilogy will always have a special place in the hearts of everyone who saw it.

And Greedo never shot first, Artoo tastes bad, Heater confronted Han Solo in the docking bay, Luke kept his mouth shut when he fell, and Melas and Ketwol were too busy lying in the alley after getting beaten mercilessly by Lak Sivrak to even think about going into the Cantina.

I'm not being a crybaby, I just want the Original version. Is that too much to ask? The Special Edition is fine, but there are so many things that I truly miss from the original release such as Greedo not shooting first, Lak Sivrak, the Artoo tastes bad line, ewok original ending (sorry, but I like the cheesy Ewok song), original Sarlaac Pit, etc...

George could easily release both editions in a two disc set just like E.T., but GL somehow believes that only the Special Edition is worth putting out on DVD. Sometimes I just don't understand why people like GL make some of the decisions they do.

It would have to be a 3 disc set just like the coming E.T.: Ultimate Edition, since you would need disc 1 for the original version, disc 2 for the special edition, and disc 3 for the supplements. And since Lucas is going to do Archival versions of the movies, that would push it to 4 discs. I just don't see it happening, since The Phantom Menace DVD didn't even include the original theatrical version of the film. If you want the original editions, best thing to do is get the VHS or Laserdisc versions transfered over to DVD yourself. Because Lucas will most likely, after 2005, only have the Archival Versions avaliable for sale. :)

Y'know what GL could do? Release the untouched versions of the OT now with pretty much bare bones extras, just to satiate demand a little. THEN release his Archival Editions after Ep3 is released. Most fans will buy both versions anyway so where is the problem.

Bootleg versions of the non-SE DVDs are available on ebay (as are the SEs). THey usually go for about $60 for the entire trilogy. The quality is not great (VHS quality) but they do exist. Just make sure you don't accidentally bid on the SEs.

That's a good idea!!! They covers won't even have to match the cover for TPM cause when he re-releases them as the Archival Editions the covers will probably match it then so when lined up on your shelf you can see the I, II, III, IV, V, VI on the side. Scenes I want added-
*The At-Ats being 'droped' by carriers like the AT-SEs were in AOTC.
* Nabbo being added to the montage of celabrating planets at the end of ROTJ. You could have an aging Jar-Jar (as long as hes not acting up), Boss Nass, a weelchair bound Sio Bibble, ect. watching from throne room.
* A shot of Boba Fett taking off his helmet in the Slave 1 after leaving Cloud City. His face would look like Jangos, but it would be even more scarded up and he'd be missing an eye to show how hard a life he's lead since the PT.
* Just to settle if the Stormtrrops are clones in the OT, have C3-PO and R2-D2 walk past a room (mess hall) with some unmasked troopers on the Death Star.

Hmmmm, I don't know. Seeing Naboo would be cool; but we have to know what Jar Jar's eventual fate will be in Ep3. I don't think we really need to see Boss Nass or Sio Bibble as they are presumably long dead before ROTJ (Look at Sio in AOTC, he looks ready to pass out! :D )

Interesting idea, but they would have to get a new actor to play Boba Fett for those scenes, which would bring the tally up to five actors to bring to life one character (I think Vader has the record with six so far) Besides I'd much rather see a Chewie or Han cameo in Ep3 than more Boba Fett.

I think most of the audience will now assume this, but it'd be nice to have indisputable proof.

No no no no no no no no no no no!

The Falcon escape is my favorite scene in all five films to date! It is an absolutely brilliant sequence. Yes, the TIEs are slow as molasses, and we see very few external shots of the Falcon. However, it is the best example of how brilliant editing combined with incredible music can create a perfect piece of cinema. That 90 seconds is far more thrilling (and coherent) than the CGI orgy that is the AOTC battle. Plus, CGI in the OT just sticks out like a sore thumb (e.g. the Death Star battle). Sometimes less is more.

Please, George, leave the OT alone!

The only thing that I'm hoping gets "fixed" in the Ultimate Editions is the duel between Obi and Vader. Those lightsaber effects are in dire need of treatment. I like the idea of adding in an "Alderaan Scene." I think the Atari-like DS plans and their cheesy light-table scanner are fine and fit in with the concept of the Rebellion utilizing whatever they could scrap together. Being that they are a gang of rebellious fugitives, they should not be provided with the utmost in technology.

I love the ideas some of you have mentioned about seeing AT-AT drop ships, seeing AT-ATs unloading platoons of Snowtroopers, Vader arriving on his shuttle, and seeing a few Rebel Transports captured or blasted to vapor.

For Jedi, I don't know if it was ever filmed, but I would like to see Jerjerrod plotting to destroy Endor. This was included in the novelization and it gave an urgency to the Rebel's need to destroy the station.

I agree with enhancing the battle of Hoth , but also the battle of Endor and the shoot-out in Cloud City. If Lucas put back the Wampa scenes, Lando rescue Luke scene, and of course the Anchorhead scenes, I would be happy. Maybe even the sandstorm scene.

As for new scenes, I think he should bring back the spirits of Mace, Qui-Gonn and other Jedi that died during the clone wars for the last shot of ROTJ. I'd personally like to see the AT-AT's deployed on Hoth.

I wish I could start a petition to get our ideas to Lucas. At least he could look at them.

Since Lucas isn't releasing any version of the OT on dvd until after the new trilogy, its quite obvious that whatever is released on dvd will not be the original cuts of the films. Nor will they be the 1997 special editions. He could have released both already and made a tidy profit, but apparently he is insisting on waiting until the new trilogy is over and done with. I'm guess so that the movies can be "revised" to eliminate any continuity discrepances between the new and old films. Oh well.

I think that if Lucas is going to release an Archival edition, the he should at least release the Original version. Forget the stupid Special edition since most if not all the special edition will make it into the archival edition. I want an Original Widescreen Trilogy DVD. The closer it gets to being released on DVD I think that those of us who want the Original version on DVD should start a petition for it. I know that George feels like the Original versions weren't that great because he couldn't fully tell the sotry the way that HE wanted to, but the Original version is what many of us love and cherish from our childhood. It is what made many of us fans to begin with, and I think that GL should realize this and give us the fans what we want since it was us who fueled the fire for all the proceeding SW films and also by helping GL by giving money to help build Lucasfilm and ILM etc.. Without the fans George, where would SW or you be today? Please release the ORIGINAL STAR WARS TRILOGY on DVD.

I've found a list of scenes that are going to be added to the Archival Editions :sur::eek::cry:...

That's hilarious!:D Especially the less disturbing ESB torture scene.

"Who's ticklish? Huh? Who's ticklish?":D:D

As for possible real changes to the OT, how about a few substitutions of the obvious stationary robot Yoda with a more mobile CG Yoda? When Luke is standing on his hands (after dropping Yoda the first time, Yoda wisely keeps his feet planted on the ground) the Yoda robot just stands there with some very jerky movements of his head. A perfect opportunity to digitally erase that version and replace him with the awesome CG model that we saw in AOTC.

Sorry, I didn't quite read it correctly, did you saw "awesome CG model"?

I'm not actually a fan of CGI, but to make all the movie blend together I wouldn't mind some minor CG additions. I wouldn't mind if Yoda is replaced by CG, because then perhaps Yoda won't look weird in AOTC...

I don't mind the ESB puppet Yoda, sure there are a few bad shots of it in the movie. But for god sake, I pray that he replaces the horrible puppet Yoda from E1 with the CGI version. That one looks like poodoo :p

The puppet used in ESB was fine, it's the stationary robot that was in a couple of shots that bugs me.

I really loved the CG model of Yoda from AOTC, but then again, I have been a fan of CG effects in movies since first watching The Abyss. When it comes down to it, it is all apples and oranges. CG, stop motion, puppets, rubber masks, optical compositing: they all look fake, it's just a matter of personal preference on which ones we think look cooler.

I'm thinking about asking the Jedi Council at sw.com if they plan to replace that Ep1 Yoda puppet with the AOTC CG version. That was a pretty hideous puppet.

Well don't expect a reply! You'd stand more chance of getting a reply from a sausage .

But agree with you, I do. Horrible the Yoda puppet was. Replaced by CGI, I would like. But still prefer puppetry than CG, I do.

That is hard, how Yoda does it 24/7 is beyond me . Being around humans for 900 years, you'd think yoda would have learnt to structure his sentances properly :).

Changes I would make:

TPM
*Update Jar Jar's animation a bit.
*Change terrible Yoda CG in last few minutes to good CG version.
*Add back in the Probe Droid scene.

ANH
*Re-record some of the music. Watch the movie, the opening Fox fanfare and Star Wars main theme seem oddly outdated compared to TPM, AOTC, and even ROTJ.
*Add Imperial March. Especially to Vader's first appearance, that music pales in comparison to the March!
*Have Temuera Morrison read the lines for the stormtroopers and replace the different voices with his.
*Keep R2-s restraining bolt stay in the same place, not jump from middle to top of the panel thing.
*Update CG characters, likethe Rontos and Jawas. Eeesh!
*Make Kabe's head opaque and not transparent, same for Vader's eyes in some scenes.
*Fix sabers! Ben's looks like its about to break in two or something and sometimes sabers are white. Also, make them look like the TPM and AOTC sabers.
*More Obi-Wan goodness. Maybe instead of him making something move in the distance and walking off, have the stormies shoot at him and he can deflect some shots with his saber. Maybe an old-looking Ewan can do this, but no (or very few) face shots please!
*Alphabet - major no-no. Same with numbers. cane the crappy "POWER" sign to an Aurabesh readout, but in the same fashion.
*Fix Ben's death: his head was chopped off, not his whole torso, as some have said previously. Have a guy stand in a cloak and, in a few seconds, disapear (no face shots though!)
*New Death Star plans: show Poggle's plans at some point, and have General Dodonna be explaining a 3-D DS, like in ROTJ, only more technologically advanced.

ESB
*Terrible Tauntauns gotta go. In some scenes, change the claymation to CG. CG, while not perfect, is so much better than claymation!
*Have Luke's saber turn off in the Wampa cave. We hear it turn off, but it stays on. Yet outside the cave, it's off. Just keep it off when he stars running.
*Boba in the Slave I looks terrible. Have him flyng without his helmet, with Tem in there, and use the same cockpit set (if it's still around) from AOTC for it.

More later . . .

ROTJ
*Fix Rancor scene, remove black lines etc.
*Make Sarlacc even more menacing, not just a ****** with a beak and tentacles. Have it be more real, snapping more and stuff.
*Show the Rebel Soldier killing the Scout Trooper and put on his armor, then the far-off pictures won't be too confusing.
*Have Han run farther away than ten feet. He'd be dead if he was that close.
*Yuck! Delete the Emperor's "slugs" on his hood.
*Make the final duel picture quality more convincing. It looks like Luke was filmed with an old-arse camera in the scene where he talks with the Emperor, but Palpatine looks squeaky clean.

Slugs on the Emperor's hood??? Where was THAT???

Beast

If you check out the S.E. version of ROTJ, there was a black splotch added to the Emperor's hood near his face. Supposedly it's there to hide the small light that was used to illuminate his face. It could also be there to hide a section of his face that is visable under the charecter makeup. I'm trying to confirm which is the true reason. Here you go, I was able to dig it up. :)

"The "slugs" to which I am referring to are dark areas in the picture that just don't look quite right. They are a result of poor colour or picture in a certain area, and the optical effects crew would have to actually draw in the right colour overtop of the picture to make it look better. These "slugs" can be found twice in this movie. The first is with Artoo Deetoo on Tatooine during the opening scenes of the movie, the second is with the Emperor onboard the Death Star.

Since the Emperor's slugs are easier to find and explain I'll deal with them first. These can be seen is a few scenes, however the most prominent is when Luke is watching the Rebel fleet being led into a trap. During this time, small black spots are seen on the Emperors head, primarily on the left side. These are known as the "Emperor's slugs", due to their slug-like appearance. What follows is only speculation as to their existence. You will notice that the Emperor's eyes are lit by a soft sickly-green spotlight in that scene. The problem with normal spots, is that when you try to get them that tight, there is always a little spillover, which gets even worse if the subject is moving. Probably, the green light was lighting things that should not have been lit, like the back of the hood, or a part of him that had not been made up (ears or hair, perhaps). The optics crew then manually blacked out the "overflowing" area's.

Artoo's slugs can be found on his main photoreceptor "eye" during the opening shots of the movie. It is believed that you could see through the eye and see the actor inside much like you could during the sandcrawler scene in "Star Wars IV: A New Hope". If you look closely, you'll see that during some angles and shots it is coloured a colour that just doesn't look quite right and resembles the slugs found on the Emperor later on in the movie."

Hey, thanks for the info! :)

I still hate them. :D
I mean, now they should be able to go back and fix it with digital junk and whatnot. Just for no more "slugs". :)
Really now, that was truly interesting, and thanks for the info. :)

TPM

Replace that horrendous Yoda puppet with the AWSOME AOTC Yoda.

ANH

Replace that horrendous CG Jabba with one like the TPM Jabba, only a little older looking.
Tone up the CG a bit (Rontos, Dewbacks, Droids, Scurriers, backgrounds etc)
Use CG to add to/fix some of the exterior space shots
Use CG to fix up the rebel Base on Yavin a bit. (computers inside, and add an areal shot of it or two)
Show the DS from Alderaan before it blows, no need to show Bail, but I wouldn't object to that either.
Add a scene where the Emperor dissoves the senate. Show him conversing with some lackeys first, then going up the platform. A shot of him in the senate flanked by royal guards would be AWSOME!

ESB

Replace OLM Emperor with the Real Palpy (Ian McDiarmid)
Spruce up the Tauntauns and Hoth Battle, but nothing too drastic (keep the stop-motion ATATs though)
Take out Luke's yell on cloud city.

ROTJ

Fix Matte lines in the rancor pit
FIX Sy Snootles (make her look like the puppet, but do her in CG, IT MUST BE DONE)
Fix Joh Yowzah
Re-do the musical sequence so that Lapti-nek is back in the movie - but longer (I don't really care if Jedi Rocks goes or stays, but LAPTI NEK MUST COME BACK)
Add the BWing scenes back in
Make thw Ewoks more violent and kill more of them
Get rid of Chewie's tarzan yell
Show more planets at the end celbration scene (Naboo would be perfect, make it look like it's been heavily affected by the empire)

Perhaps, they could add a small mention of midichlorians to ESB Luke's training. Like when Luke stops to breathe and Yoda is rambling on, it could go like this . . .

LUKE: But how am I to know the good side from the bad?
YODA: You will know. When you are calm, at peace. Passive. Hear the midi-chlorians speaking to you, you will; tell you, will they.
LUKE: Midi-chlorians?
YODA: Microscopic lifeforms are they. Live in all living cells, they do. Without them, no knowledge of the Force would we have. Continually speak to us, they do, and tell us the will of the Force.
LUKE: I don't understand.
YODA: With time and training, you will. But remember this, you must - a Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense, never for attack.

If this scene is done correctly, perhaps with computer animation for Luke's lips in these scenes, and someone doing his voice, as well as different shots and angles of Yoda talking, this would be great. To sort of tie-in midi-chlorians to the OT.

Or not mention it at all. Luke doesn't have to be told the why behind the abilities, he just needs to be taught. I always got the idea that they really just told Luke what he wanted to hear, to make him feel special. :)

The luke midi-chlorian scene would be good, but it'd have to prolly play out into ROTJ plus they could always get mark hamill to do a voice over, his voice hasnt changed. but here's the things i'd like to see...

TPM-
1. Add in all cut scenes

2. More scenes of Sideous and Maul together, it made Maul look more like a minor character then a Lord of the Sith

3. More scenes of anakin and qui-gon together

4. make neimodian mouths move better with the words they say

ANH-
1. Add in all cut scenes

2. add in the Imperial March in some scenes

3. Show more of the Emperor (go with the same pattern of the prequals, they show Sideous alot in TPM, one scene in AOTC and i would imagine he'll be in alot of Ep. III- in OT show Palpatine some in ANH, the one scene in ESB and alot in ROTJ)

4. Showing the Emperor dissolve the Imperial Senate would be pretty cool cuz it would show Coruscant and how much has changed in the Senate since the Republic fell. plus they could show bail organa get up and walk out, showin how his fears from AOTC came true.

5. jabba should be redone to look more like the ROTJ jabba instead of TPM jabba because ROTJ is closer to ANH in time then TPM is.

6. Show some of the scenes with the stormtroopers with their helmets off as Morrison (i think thats his name, the guy who played Jango- i know im gonna get some flack for that one) plus he could voice over the lines of the stormtroopers

7. no more greedo shoots first

8. spice up the film quality to go better with the prequal quality

9. add some more fighters into the final battle

10. make the lightsaber battle look cleaner and more liek a prequal battle by more choreography (hey, they made christopher lee jump all over the place by puttin his face over top someone elses body, they can do that to alec guiness)

11. show the destruction of alderaan from alderaan's point of view.

12. if naboo isnt destroyed in Ep. III, maybe explain why its gone from the classic trilogy

ESB-
1. add in all cut scenes, includin finishin the wampa attack scene

2. cg taun-tauns

3. maybe show more of the probe droid

4. replace the other palpatine with Ian McDirmand, also show his side of the hologram so there is also a hologram of Vader kneeling before him and the Emperor's throne room on Coruscant is shown.

5. show more of cloud city

6. the proposed yoda explanation of midi-chlorians to Luke

ROTJ-
1. add in all the cut scenes

2. more planets at the celebration

3. maybe have a scene of Leia looking at an old hologram of Padme that was recorded for Leia before she was given away. Luke never had one.

4. clean up the rancor fight, the effect that is
