Why have some of the features on these forums been removed? Now there is no "last 5 posters", "newest members", collapse and expand forums, etc...

Why have they been removed?

I was confused because I thought maybe I turned off "collapse" but I couldn't remember doing it :crazed:

As I stated in a similar thread in another section http://www.sirstevesguide.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5821

It appears Steve went and put in the newest update from the company that wrote the program and forgot to make sure certain things were fixed. Please make a list here of everything you see that's disappeared or has negatively changed.

You can actually still hyperlink to the posts, but you have to look up the post's number in the thread's page source and know how to write urls (it's remarkably easy though). When you see your post text in the code, look above it for the "a name=" and the number there will be your post number, then you add that like so:

http://www.sirstevesguide.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=post num here#post num here("post num here" means the post number there without spaces, and yes you put it twice interrupted by the pound sign)

(or you could just wait till Steve puts 'em back ;))

There was a major bug in the last version of the forums and it HAD to be updated. With each update, I have to go back in and add the previous features, or what we call hacks. The next major release of this forums software is in about a month or two and they will have some of the "popular" hacks like the collapse/expand and Post #. So, I may just wait for the new version before I add the big hacks like the collapse/expand because it is very time consuming. It's not that I wouldn't do it, but when there is a security update to the forums system, all that work to add those hacks are lost and have to be re-done. I will be adding the more useful ones over the next few days.

Well what about the profile pics. It was good to see who you were talking too. Sometimes its hard to put a face to a poster w/o seeing a face already. Its just something that I thought was a nice touch.

Hmmmm.... Still no profile photo feature :( Will I have to re-upload a picture when it gets turned back on or will the old one re-appear? Just curious. :)

Just noticed that the Who's Online section at the bottom of the main page is missing again. That sucks for PM'ing people, now we can't just click on someone's name at the bottom of the screen and shoot them off a PM. What's up with that? Now we have to browse the forums for one of their posts, and then we can send them a PM. Tell me that this feature is coming back soon. :(

And now the view new posts button has been disabled, what the hell? Sir Steve, are you loading a new update to the software again, or somthing? Because all this is doing is making the forums harder to navigate and use, seems like a major step backwards. Any comment? :(

Major server load so we are trying to balance it. We ordered another server to fix the problem but until it's ready, I had to slow it down by turning off a few features TEMPORARILY. I'll turn them back on soon. The who's online is a MAJOR server hog.

They have not updated this addition for the new version. I am waiting and as soon as they do, I will add it.

I'll be glad when it's back to normal. It just seems weird.
