View Full Version : R2-D2 leg variation updates

04-23-2002, 04:01 AM
Well I went to a 24 hour walmart and they had about 25 R2-D2 figures on the pegs. Now here is the talley of R2-D2s with different legs that I looked at.

I got to look at 11 R2-D2s

10 R2-D2s with the R3-T7 legs
1 with the dome style legs

Now was it just this store or are most of the R2s being found with R3-T7 legs?

So far it seems that the dome style is the rarer of the 2 around here.

post your results and maybe we can figure this out.

From my findings the dome style legs are definately rarer.

Which one. . .if not both. . . comes with a background?

04-23-2002, 11:17 AM
Hit some more stores this morning and looked at the R2-D2 figures here is the results from my local stores

walmart all R2-D2s have R3-t7 legs

Target all had dome legs

Kaybee all had dome legs

both figures came with backg ground pictures also.

Found one of each left at the WM here. Snagged em just in case.

Hey R2. . .could you do me a favor and post the date stamps for those 4 R2's you found. . .it would be much appreciated.

04-23-2002, 12:08 PM
All of the R2's I looked at except for two had the fan looking thing. The other two where just the solid domes.

04-23-2002, 01:23 PM
Hey guys -- I am a little slow -- can you be a little more specific on what a "DOME" style leg is and what a "R3-T7" leg is?

It's been a long night and my brain aint workin -- thank you

I only have 2, one of each, and they are at home, I will post the date stamps tomorrow.

The "dome" leg variation has a complete silver circle where the leg attaches to the main body.

The "R3-T7" leg variation has what looks like a wheel with spokes there. (Or a fan)

....On the outside of the leg.

04-23-2002, 01:39 PM
Thank you R2-D2 -- I will go and seek the "dome" out....

04-23-2002, 04:13 PM
So which one is rarer. I have a dome one you think i should open it.

04-23-2002, 06:00 PM
well im sure in a few months all of them from plastic, cheap ,dome and regular will be 1.97..LOL

04-23-2002, 06:10 PM
its hard to tell which is rarer since the stores around here have tons of each.

If someone needs either version I can still get them and will trade them 1 for 1.

I need 2 mint carded Count Dooku

The R3-T7 leg variation is by far the hardest to come by from my experience. I looked at about 40 diferent R2's and only about 7 of them were the R3T7 legs.

04-23-2002, 07:02 PM
Well Sorry Fellows. At my wal-mart they had so many of both versions of R2-D2 it was not even worth my time. I bet you I saw 20 different R2 D2's with the R3T7 Legs.

04-23-2002, 08:55 PM
I only saw the "dome" hips (aka the original hips from this figure's original POTF2 Power FX origins) with the background.

04-23-2002, 08:58 PM
That's all I saw as well. I got one for my desk and another one for my boss. I went to some other stores later on in the day and they only had the "dome" variety as well. Both of the ones I got came with backgrounds as well.

04-23-2002, 09:05 PM
I got one of each. Which ones are domes?

04-23-2002, 09:08 PM
they are the "smooth" silver parts that attach the legs to the barrel of the body.

04-23-2002, 09:46 PM
Those were everywhere I only found one of the other ones.

04-23-2002, 10:41 PM
Here in Tennessee the "spoke" version is everywhere. Do you think this varies from state to state????

04-24-2002, 08:12 AM
I have one of each and I hope that I can shed a little light on the subject. Going on the basis of date imprints, the dome R2 has a date of 20281 while the spoke R2 has a date of 20371. Seems as if this follows previous examples, that the dome R2 is more rare, but only time will tell.

04-24-2002, 08:18 AM
Here's the date information that I found. The dome R2 has a date imprint of 20281 and the spoke R2 has a date imprint of 20371. Hope that helps. Only time will tell.

04-24-2002, 12:17 PM
Thanks R2. the info is much appreciated.

04-24-2002, 12:20 PM
R2. . .did your spoke R2 come with a background, or is it without?

04-24-2002, 12:22 PM
I didn't even think about the R2 variants when I was there. The R2 I was able to grab during MM has the dome legs without background.

04-24-2002, 05:30 PM
does anybody know if R2 makes the same sounds like the POTF2 FX version?

04-24-2002, 06:20 PM
I love mine. I don't know if it has dome hips or not. I think it came witha background, not sure. If it did I threw it away. But I love the sounds. Not sure if it the same as the POTF2 Deluxe one, but it is cool.

04-24-2002, 06:25 PM
Also, the dome variant can be found with the background and without. I can not find a spoke version with the background, so I don't think that there is one seeing as I beleive the dome version came out first. I hope this helps.

Here is what I have found so far.

R2-D2 Dome comes with the background and without.

R2-D2 Spokes only comes wihout the background.

I think that you won't find any R2-D2 Spokes with a background because if the dome version was first, then the dome appeared without the background for a while before they evertually just changed the legs. I hope this helps, but I could be wrong. I haven't seen one Spoke version yet with a background or heard about one either.

After checking what I have, this is what R2-D2 has so far:
POTF2-GC/RC - flat
-FF - flat
-FB ???
-CTC ???
EP1 - flat
POTJ - spoked (the Naboo Escape one)

So, R2 got spoked and flat peg in Episode1?

First let me apologize to all those who are tired of the variations on the new figures, and have probobly heard enough about this particular variation.

Now. . .what is really out there on this figure?

I personally have one w/background, and the dome legs(date stamp 20081)

I have seen the version w/o background and the dome legs at just about every store I've been to.

What version (w or w/o background) has the spoke, or R3-T7 legs? If you posses any of these two spoke leg figures. . .could you post the date stamp?

04-26-2002, 02:38 PM
You can't find the version with the R3-T7 legs?

Very odd. Around here thats ALL you see. I've found a total of 3 with the round peg (no BG) between 8 stores (TRU, 2 targets, walmart, 2 kmarts, meijer, kbtoys). But the other version (star peg) are very abundant.

04-26-2002, 03:15 PM
we have both versions here, but the star peg is more rare. so who knows all this may just be regional and we may have to wait a bit to see....and its that wait that sucks!
