Evenflow your big on customizing hey?? Do you have an art background or something. Im scared to try customizing for fear of wrecking alot of figures. Whats your secret what do you use for tools and paint???

At first I was worried about destroying figures too, but i got over it. I got tired of waiting for Hasbro to release stuff that I wanted. When all those figures were released for .99 - 1.99. I stocked up and bought whatever i could. The main tool is a dremel and x-acto knife, and the boil and pop method. Oh, and sculpey, and alot of it. That is basically it.

Remember have imagination and patience and try to get multiples of the cheap figures. Hint Target is lowering prices on the Luke X-Wing Gear. Just picked up a couple for only $1.99. Also look for some of the Godzilla figures or Titan AE figures, or any of the no name action figures for spare heads. Even the Voltron figures will work for some interesting customizing.

I have just recently created some custom figures based on various comic book, video game and novel characters. Some of these figures include:

1.) Luke Skywalker: Jedi Master (NJO)
2.) Luke Skywalker: Shadows of the Empire ( Tan Vest)
3.) Anakin Solo: Jedi Robes (NJO)
4.) Jacen Solo: Jedi Training Gear
5.) Corran Horn: CorSec Security Uniform (X-Wing Series)
6.) Corran Horn: Jedi Master (NJO)
7.) Lt. Corran Horn: Rogue Squadron X-Wing Gear
8.) Princess Leia: Dark Jedi Gear (Star Wars Infinities)

As soon as I can I will try to get pictures of these figures a well as other customs on the web

There doesn't seem to be an EU customs thread so I'll put this one here because he's not in the movie but is cool and Tatooine based anyway - BoShek's R4-E1 astro droid. I'm really proud of how this one turned out because the green stripes on R4-M9 are really hard to cover up. I had to guess what the back and right side looked like but as Most of his panels are red I though he'd be pretty much covered in red. The head was a bit tricky because the toy sculpt is inaccurate compared to reference shots but I managed ok.

Pardon the slip up, so I've split the thread from the ANH Custom Figures and created this EU Custom Figures. I just like those droids! :D

To all,
Post your custom figures for the Expanded Universe (comics, novels) in this thread. If you have problems attaching the images, please PM me.

No problem and I just found the original thread for the EU Custom Figures which I've just merged into one.

Question: Is this thread okay for 'non EU' EU stuff? By that I mean stuff you've created from your own feverished mind. It's just that I created a crew for a fictional starship I haven't yet made. And one or two look okayreally, but they aren't strictly speaking EU in the traditional sense. Would it be okay to use this thread or do we need a new thread for that?

This thread would be the catch all for any custom figures outside the Saga. However, if it's a starship that you've done then please post it in the Custom Vehicles, Ships, Accessories (http://www.sirstevesguide.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=4162) thread.

I just started my new Han Solo Tie Pilot custom tonight. I finished drilling the Helmet and made the head swap. I thought it was going to be hard, but all I did was boil Han and Tie Pilot to make them soft and I pulled the heads off with a towel on each end. One to hold the head and one to hold the body, once that was done then the difficult part came. I had to get Han's head on the Tie Pilots body so I took a small flat head screw driver ( the kind you fix glasses with ) and pushed one end in and then the other. Finally I was done, and then proceeded to drill the helmet which has to be done with much caution so you don't mess up big time. I did manage to make a tiny pin hole on the side of the helmet which I will putty and paint later. I also had to resculpt Han's head so it would fit in the helmet, I did this buy cutting away some of the bushiness of his head and presto I was done that. I will make finishing touches tomorrow by painting and sealing. Once complete I will post pics.

Since you had to cut off some of Han's hair, there any chance of possibly going over it to resculpt it in a "wet from sweat and matted down from the helmet" look? It might give it an interesting look if you prefer to look at him with his helmet off.

What TIE Pilot did you use? TIE Interceptor/Bomber Pilot or the regular POTF2 one?

DarthBrandon
06-24-2002, 02:12 AM
Yeah, I can do that, but I'll have to play with some paints to get the look. I do plan to display him with the helmet off, I think he will look better that way.

I used the POTF2 one, I didn't want to use my Tie Interceptor one cause he's still in the box.

The Han Solo I used was from the Pricess Leia Collection, it was a good one to use.

Here's the pic of the New Han Solo Tie Pilot. He comes with removable helmet and his custom blaster. Tell me what you think.
His head is matted down LTBasker, you can tell cause it doesn't have the high hair part anymore.

Beast

Looks pretty good Brandon. A better idea then Han in Tie Pilot outfit would have been using the POTJ Imperial Officer. Use one of the younger looking Han solo face sculpts. I would suggest the Commtech Han Solo. With a shaving down of his hair, and cutting the top of his head at the same angle as the officer's head and glueing the hat on, you can make Han Solo: Imperial Officer. Then toss him into a diorama with a group of Stromtroopers beating on a Chewbacca figure and you get a nice EU diorama of Han and Chewie's first meeting. :)

MTFBWY and HH!!

Thankx JarJarBinks, I just might do that if I get another Imperial Officer. I only have one right now, so I'll have to wait a while. In the mean time how about Captain Antilles to work on until I get that Imperial Officer ? Or maybe I'll do a ATST Han.

Well, it has been a while since i had the time to sit down and start customizing again. I figures i would start with something simple to get back in the game, Holiday Special Cartoon Boba Fett & Dragon. It feels good to be back into the swing of things.

Jargo
02-03-2003, 04:46 PM
I haven't done any droids for a while so i thought i'd experiment with a spare deluxe threepio. I painted him with enamel aluminium silver and left that to dry off for a few days. Then i tried a new technique to me which is to use cellulose glass paint and basically glaze the figure. With the silver underneath and this glasslike finish to him I got a cheap imitation vaccuum metalised look. The only glass paint colors I could find were bright colors like this green and orange and I think purple or red. But it gives a really nice shiny look to an otherwise crappy figure. I added in a little black matt enamel paint to his knee joints and other joint places and added back his lit eyes. I plan on dirtying him down so he looks more like an abandoned protocol droid wandering the streets of Coruscant. I like the idea of brightly colored protocol droids though. Like they were once in vogue but are now falling on hard times as the more muted colors become fashionable. Anyway, I think Testors do the same cellulose paints. Shouldn't be too hard to get hold of. It dries really fast and you need a special thinners for it but otherwise it's just the same as any other paint. Oh yeah, I painted a few coats onto mine just to make sure it covered everything. It has a patchy look with just one coat.

Jargo
02-04-2003, 05:04 PM
Okay, here's a few of my last customs, which i can't remember if i've showcased before but here goes anyway. First up is my freighter captain, made from the body of Sio Bibble (my first one who's head accidentaly twisted off hence being used for custom fodder) I decided i liked the blue so left it unpainted. His jacket is Ponda baba's and so are the arms. The epaulets are from episode one boss Nass and the helmet is from a G.I.JOE figure from years back, can't remember which one, one of the last ones anyway. The head is also G.I. JOE and i think it's from a rock'n'Roll figure.
I just threw the lot together and although he doesn't have arm articulation he still looks cool. Mean too. :p

Jargo
02-04-2003, 05:10 PM
This one is a favourite of mine, It's a crewchick for the freighter in question and she's comprised of the legs and body from a commtech Leia, the arms from ceremonial leia(the 2-pack one that came with R2) the head of Lyn M, the jacket from a Kabe and the belt is a vintage Endor Leia with poncho belt. I lost the Leia years ago but somehow kept hold of the belt and poncho. She's my first female character and I wasn't able to get her articulated since i was learning about customising at the time so tore the pegs, but she's a nice starter i think. ;)

Jargo
02-04-2003, 05:13 PM
Here's a crewman, he's made up from a dagobah luke, the cinema scene Ponda baba jacket and a G.I.JOE head from one of the pilots I think. I can't remember which one it was but i liked his square face and the flat top hairstyle. I went with a neutral blue for all the freighter crew because i thought it might tie in with the republic pilots somehow.

Jargo
02-04-2003, 05:17 PM
Finally for the freighter crew we have the Twi'Lek mechanic. made from a vintage pruneface body and a vintage Bib Fortuna head. Just a simple repaint and head swap but it still looks different enough. I need to do some filling around the neck because the head won't sit right but other than that and a touch up on the paint I reckon he's done.

Jargo
02-04-2003, 05:22 PM
Now we get to the spaceport. This one has been shown before but in a fuzzy out of focus pic. This is my spaceport 'escort' manager to be pc about it. I took another Dagobah Luke torso and arms and shoved them onto a pair of Ponda baba legs. gave it the coat from cerenmonial luke and the hat from Flashback luke Tatooine. The head is captain Panaka. Again dead simple but quite effective.

Jargo
02-04-2003, 05:28 PM
next up is a conman and card sharp. This is bit of a disappointment because one of his arms didn't work right. It's basically the torso and legs of a commtech han solo, the head from the first tatooine luke and the arms from one of the Obi-Wan figures from either POTJ or EP1. I forget which but it shouldn't be too hard to figure out. I just ran into problems with the left arm peg fitting into the torso and i think i trimmed too much off. But I'll just glue it down and leave it at that.

Jargo
02-04-2003, 05:32 PM
This one is one of my favorites. It;s a Snivvian made from a Wuher and a Takeel from the cantina aliens CS. So easy to do really but I hated the hump on Takeel and wanted a Snivvian that looked normal. Wuher was the only fat guy wearing the similar tunic style so off i went and Bob's your lobster. There's a wee gap at the belt line but considering the state of some of the latest stuff from hasbro i can overlook it.

Jargo
02-04-2003, 05:37 PM
This is just a spaceport passenger but I kinda like the over all look despite the way too shiny paint work. I'll have to get some Matt varnish to finish him off properly and maybe cxhange the colors even but he's not bad. Again one of my very first customs.
Made from Rune Haako's torso and legs, Saesee Tiin's arms, Labria's head and hands, Luke tatooine's lower tunic and using a belt from a figure i had many many years ago from lord aloe knows what line. It was a larger scale though but the little bits added a nice dimension to the belt.

Jargo
02-04-2003, 05:43 PM
Aaaaaand finally, this one I've shown before but again in a smaller and fuzzier pic and without his cool headgear i think. I also gave him a name which might not be brilliant but as this was indeed my first serious custom I feel very close to - Gordy Ignatious.
He's made from the torso arms and legs of Nute Gunray. The head and hands of Ponda Baba. The skirts from soft goods Darth Maul which i split apart and trimmed and glued under the rim of the torso. And his funky head gear is the accesssory from a really odd spiderman figure from the mid nineties. It was a contraption with bendy arms attached to it with claw hands on the ends. I just chopped off the arms and repainted the headband part silver. I just dig those pink shades on an Aqualish! :p

So that's me lot for now. Let me know what you think.

Darth Sidious
02-04-2003, 06:27 PM
Wow, I really like all of those, especially Gordy Ignatious. That is by far the best SW name I have ever heard. I'd like to see more aliens of his kind. You ought to make a Gordy Ignatious "Star Park" avatar. :D Keep up the good work! :)

Direct from the spare parts bag is Jedi Knight bo'Rang Ceipe-ay. An accountant at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, bo'Rang passed his trials when he was able to pay for creating, training, maintaining, and equipping an army of 1.2 million for a 10 year period without anyone else knowing. He was the second one up against the wall when the revolution came.

Great customs you guys!

Here's a real easy one (I'm a lazy customizer). Calamri Jedi:
Basically it's just a head/arm swap with Nikto Jedi & POTJ Calamri. The arms and head don't fit quite right, but I think it looks kinda neat:

Thanks jpak001! I was trying to get away from the browns and tans. So I decided on a greenish khaki color. I was happy with the way he turned out. As for the parts, I used the skirt & crotch section from a Maul figure that I had cut in half. B/c there was no stem, I lost the waist articulation but I really don't mind. I also used the cape from an extra Saga Vader I have in the customs box.

As for my next custom, he's a repainted Jinn Jedi Master w/ 2 sabers. I repainted the hair & beard and darkened parts of his tunic. I also added a nice battle scar on his face. Enjoy!

Here's my newest custom and guess what, it's not a jedi. It's actually Vilmarh Grahrk, Villie, from Dark Horse comics. It's a simple custom I used Dash's body and Labria's, the Devaronian from the Cantina scene, head. I repainted his head a nice red and did some minor paint changes to the body. I'll probably make a couple more changes in the future. I just wanted to get this out to everyone. Enjoy!

My latest custom is one I've been meaning to do for quite some time. I've seen quite a few Corran Horns in Jedi garb which have been great but I really liked the cover photo from I, Jedi. Well, here's my rendition of Corran complete w/ silver lightsaber and blaster.

I, Jedi (http://albums.photo.epson.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=4112758&a=30655198&p=63529510&f=0)

I used the body of a POTF2 Bespin Luke, a Ep. 1 Obi-Wan head minus the braid & tail & a Saga Kenobi lightsaber. I thought the hilt worked nicely since Corran's first lightsaber used the handlegrip from a speederbike.

Enjoy!

Hi All!

Here's a recent custom of mine. I was inspired to customize this mysterious jedi from Republic #53. For the more curious, there is known relation to Wedge. The Council is not even sure if that is his real name.

Enjoy!

Bumping up the Extended Universe Customs. This will help keep the individual threads together. Click through the other pages and you'll find some nice stuff.

Since my area has pretty much had a huge dry spell on basic Saga figures, etc. for the past six months, I finally turned to customizing my existing collection—with some help from KB Toys’ major clearance sales on SW figures. With all of these customs, I used various acrylic paints and acrylic sealer. So far, they seem to work very well—especially if you make a mistake (you can wet it and wipe it away if you catch it quick enough).

Now that I’ve gotten a hold of a digital camera (and my fiancée was a good enough sport to hold up the figures while I took pictures), I decided to post the customs I’ve made this past week and see what everyone thinks of them. Hope you like ‘em!!

Just as a quick side note, does anyone else think there should be a separate thread for Episode III concept figures?? Between our own expectations and info that has leaked out already, I’m sure there are plenty of other people working on Episode III figures already. Just a thought.

Anyways, here’s my first custom.

Stormtrooper (Clone Reveal)

Since the Stormtroopers have all but been absolutely confirmed to be clones, I decided to create an unmasked Stormtrooper that reveals the cloned face of Jango Fett.

This custom was problematic for several reasons, the least of which is that this was my first ever “boil and pop” head swap. First, my POTF2 Stormtrooper was starting to yellow from age, so I had to repaint the whole body. Second, the Stormtrooper head ripped off (probably because the plastic was old and weak). Third, Jango’s head is attached to some kind of anchoring ring inside the body. This means the “boil and pop” method alone won’t work. I had to cut the plastic too. After a little widening of the neck hole, the head popped right in—although the head has ZERO articulation now.

Just as an added touch, I used the Stormtrooper helmet from my POTF2 Luke Stormtrooper figure so that this figure could have a removable helmet.

This was my first full-blown custom figure (the Stormtrooper was an experimental “test run”), and I am very proud of this figure. In all, it was about three or four evenings worth of work for everything, and it involved the use of two figures for the body (Anakin Hanger Duel and Count Dooku) and accessories from Yoda, Bespin Vader, and Padme Pilot. This is my representation of how I think Anakin’s ultimate turn to Dark Side should happen in Episode III—including taking his Sith name prior to his crippling injuries. To this end, I created a customized Count Dooku and Obi-Wan to go along with Vader in a little “Cinema Scene.” I have a few ideas for the playset, but that’ll come in time.

I felt that Vader should slay Dooku in a very violent manner and then turn on Obi-Wan with Darth Sidious looking on via hologram. This is why Vader, now in all black and gray a la Darth Maul (which I used as a paint reference for the robes), is wearing Count Dooku’s cape. It’s sort of a trophy.

In terms of the cape, I was able to use part of an old silver anklet to create a real chain to hold the cape on Vader.

Because Vader has broken from his role as a Jedi apprentice, he has removed his Padawan braid, rejecting his Jedi training. If you look closely at the left side of his head, the braid has been cut off with an Exacto blade.

While his human hand is clutching his OT Sith lightsaber, Vader is firing Sith lightning from his mechanical hand (which I painted black to resemble his glove in the Dark Horse comics), a modification of Yoda’s Force effect. I trimmed part of the tip off to eliminate its’ heaviness and subsequent “drooping” problem that it tends to have. I just threaded the cut piece into the lightning closer to Vader’s hand.

Lastly, I made this figure a total package by including a relatively large custom accessory for Vader: a holoprojector with Darth Sidious. To build the holoprojector, I used parts from the radar tower packaged with Padme (Coruscant Attack). I superglued the tower halves together and glued that piece UNDERNEATH the base. Add in some electric blue paint in the grooves, and there’s your holoprojector. Lastly, I drilled a small hole in the base/projector so that a laser pointer could shine up through the hologram and give it an almost black-light glow.

This is the most detailed paint job I’ve done on my customs yet and projector the most “un-Star Wars-like” in terms of the violence depicted. However, I felt that Anakin’s turn would be so severe that he would attack with unleashed fury through a combination of Sith lightning and lightsaber attacks. Hence, the blood and bruisings. As a parallel to their encounter in Episode II, Dooku’s arm has been severed at the elbow—the same arm Anakin lost to the Sith Lord on Geonosis.

Here is a close-up of Dooku’s face. You can clearly see the effects of their duel through the bloodied and bruised face as well as the blood and dirt-stained tunic. Again, a bit too violent for Star Wars, but it’s closer to what would happen for real. Plus, it makes the whole scene much more dramatic. I also removed the painted-on chain after this picture was taken.

Sith Lord 0498
08-24-2003, 05:23 PM
Originally this started as a simple correction of Obi-Wan’s “surfer dude” blonde hair, but it made sense to do some parts-swapping to create a Vader Duel Obi-Wan. I steered clear of additionally repainting because I don’t have a spare Obi-Wan Coruscant Chase to use.

Sith Lord 0498
08-24-2003, 05:25 PM
To create the duel version, I added the energy effect from one of my Geonosian Warriors and slid the lightsaber blade through it. When positioned correctly, the tail end of the energy intertwines pretty well with Vader’s Sith lightning, re-enacting the same move Obi-Wan used to block Dooku’s lightning in Episode II.

Sith Lord 0498
08-24-2003, 05:27 PM
As a sentimental touch to the encounter, I included the lightsaber hilt from Bespin Luke (Anakin’s old saber) and have Obi-Wan carrying it in his hand—almost as if he trying to return it to his old Padawan as part of his attempt to bring Anakin back from the Dark Side.

These are simply repaints of the generic all-white Clonetrooper Army three-pack. Considering these are soldiers in a war, it didn’t make sense to have a Republic Gunship manned by Clonetroopers that looked like they just got washed and waxed. Therefore, I used a variety of reference photos to add blaster marks, scuffs, and scratches to their armor.

By the way, sorry about splitting this up through so many posts, but I wanted to make sure all the details really stood out and I can't post more than one attachment per post, so..... Anyways, these are the last two images for now. Let me know what you think!!

I borrowed my father's Sony Mavica digital camera. It's a couple years old, and it really takes crappy pictures. I tried taking them indoors and I couldn't get a clear close-up shot of anything within four feet of the camera. That's why they're all outdoors shots. Thankfully, it was one of the brightest days we've had up here in PA in a long time.

And the kicker is--it's a $700 camera!!! Truly not worth it.

Hi there,

Here is a pic of my first carded custom figure. I had a spare Dash Rendar kicking about so I thought I'd put together an original style card for him. Please let me know what you think.

I used my trusty old Xerox M750 and normal glossy photo paper glued to thin card. Incidentally, if anyone has any other good methods for rinting cards, i'd love to hear them.

Okay, inspired by Hasbro's Clone Wars line, here's my version of Count Dooku/Darth Tyranus, during the CW. Notice, he's started to show signs of Dark Side decay.

I've also done a Clone Wars-era Palpatine. This was prior to photos of Ian McDiarmid in Episode III appearing on the Net. Not only has the war aged him, but Dark Side decay is advancing.

Wow! Can't believe how long it's been since I posted a new custom. I am truly appalled at myself. Anyway, here's my custom Sharad Hett. I haven't put a clear coat on him yet and I need some dulling spray to take the shine off his boots. I'll post another pic once he's finished, plus a pic of his son Asharad, once he's done. Enjoy!

Here's a custom 12" Cay Qel Droma (from the Tales of the Jedi comic series) I had made years ago. It had gotten lost in a move, and he just re-surfaced when I was going through some boxes in storage.

Here's a breakdown of the custom:

Head = GI Joe head w/sculpy hair (then painted the hair & eyebrows)

Body = early SW/GIJoe HOF style body. The reason I used this crappy body is explained below...

Robotic arm = Stripped the "flesh" (rubber) off the HOF arm which exposed an inner skeleton (this also increased articulation). Then I glued on various Spawn parts (hand from the Manga Clown) and painted it silver w/black wash.

Lightsaber = An exhaust from a action fleet X-wing, plus other various parts glued together. Then painted silver w/black wash (blue blade from a early 12" luke).

Clothes = various items from the old "soldiers of the world" 12" line. Belt from a luke 12"er, cape is just some fabric I got at a fabric store.

So there it is! It actually took a while and was quite a bit of work. I had to sew, and I had no idea how to do it. But in the end, I was very hapy with it! :smoker:

What do you think?
