The Blindshield helmet

I don't understand the point in the blindshield helmet. What is the point of having a helmet with a shield on it so you can't see anything. I know it helped Luke train a little bit , but besides that , what was its purpose? Why did Han and Chewie have it on the Falcon?

I always thought it was covered in dust, thus making it impossible to see out of.

The Blast Shield Helmet is a regular pilot helmet.....

the blast shield is there to shield the pilot's eyes from large bright explosions.....and can move up or down........
