custom figures - how to?

How do I get the plastic off figures to "customize" my own new figures?
How have others made the new printing on the figures?
What methods have others used?

You can go to http://www.ffurg.com for a wide variety of techniques. I have just started using the boil and pop method to put a few new heads/arms on some POTJ clearance figs.
