View Full Version : photos of new AF BPs in packages

In case you missed it, Sir Steve has posted images of packaged Battle Packs. They are indeed rehashes. A lot of you will be very disappointed. Instead of seeing figure packs were are seeing beast/vehicle packs. At least I can get that Lars Speeder I need.

holy re-treads, Batman! thanks for the links, haggie. the only silver lining I see there is the lack of figures hopefully means the AF ships will come with figures, since we sure as heck aren't getting any extras in the BPs.

too bad they're adopting the same sucky packaging graphic design theme as the 3-3/4" products!

It makes me wonder if producing figures is really expensive compared to producing larger items. Maybe figure molds don't hold up and they need to make more of each mold to produce all the figures? Glitch would probably know the answer to that. I guess the other sensible possibility is that vehicle/beast packs are easier to sell than figure packs. Hasblow has already made it obvious that we can't have both in the same package like in the old days.

Or maybe, hasblo is just cheap and they've got a room full of beady-eyed money-grubbing marketers whose sole purpose in life is to squeeze every last penny out of loyal fans...gotta love'em

What a let down, I surely hope the vehicles will make up for this short coming. But as it looks now, Hasbro maybe stageing a slow death for Action Fleet as a whole. These items are sure to give a poor showing in the retail department, back to the dollar bins they go.

Rehashing these Battle Pack items is like rehashing the kid Anankin 3 3/4" figure.

Anyone have a release date for the ships? And, as far as we know, are the only 3 ships scheduled so far just retreads? Wasn't there just a new X-wing, Falcon and (I forget the 3rd ship) scheduled?

3rd ship = VaderTIE (I'm pretty sure)

The release date is sometime in June no actual date was said. I'm glad to see the BP back. Even though they are retreads. But wait, in June when the AF makes it return there is said to be EP2 ships included with the classic 3. And, if they are releasing BP???? AOTC BP shouldn't be to far behind.

However, were are the NEW EP2, AOTC AF ships? Still no photos? What in the name of Star Wars is Hasbro doing?????????

Looks like sirstevesguide moved the images of the AF BPs from the show to their own directory now so the URLs originally posted no longer take you right to the images. Here is the URL of the new AF directory they set-up:

Haggie, sorry if the move messed up your links, we wanted them to be together, so I moved them a few hours ago and meant to change your post here then. Unfortunately, I got distracted and only just now fixed it. :crazed: ;)

Anyway, I think these are not bad work, though AF figure lovers will probably be disappointed. These all make sense together and take advantage of some great pieces.

They're your links, you can do what you want with them :D

Thanks for editing the post!

It's just how that system works, I'd prefer they didn't change but the system is so cool that I'll take it as it comes. ;) And I'm glad to have been of service on the post.

Only good point I see about those is the Lars' Speeder - I only saw that BP a couple times but wasn't able to get it due to not having the money at those times.

i know lots o' folks had trouble tracking down this battle pack the 1st time around (battle pack 16) check out all the original battle packs at r2dee2's excellent site (http://www.twinsuntimes.com/toyforce/battlepacks.htm).

i'm afraid we ain't gonna see to many figures released with the upcoming action fleet. as noted previously, the new stands do not contain a slot with which to display a figure with the ship, like the original stands had. none of the photos shown to date of the re-released vehicles (x-wing, vaders tie, falcon) show any figures included (no pilot, no nuthin :frus: )

i hope i'm wrong, cause one of the features that made action fleet such a great line were the very detailed figures included throughout the toy lines initial run. it was a great disapointment when the ep. I af's only came with one figure. the sorrow will be even greater (and will undoubtably huet the line further), if no figures are included with the new af's.

just this weekend, mason and i set up the yavin rebel base with tons and tons of figures, and staged an epic battle (something we havn't done in quite awhile) it's really cool to have hundreds of little action fleet soldiers attacking and defending an action fleet playset, half the fun is fussing with the the guys for like forever:eek: so that they stand up just right! we were having such a good time doing this for the better part of three hours, and isn't that what these toys really are about?

Let me introduce you to a phrase that is pounded into your head in the world of toy design - perceived value.

This is the reason the Cloud Car was WAY out of scale, and why most of my drawings had to be reduced before they were sent to Galco - I liked to make the larger ships and playsets as big as the package would allow, but some did not share my enthusiasm. :(

The truth is, AF figures are surprisingly expensive to produce. They are small, four parts, with a large number of paint ops. Truth be told, the poorest selling Battle Packs were the ones that included the most figures. On the other hand, the best selling packs were the ones with the larger vehicles/creatures. People, outside of AF fanatics, felt they were not getting as much with eight figres as they were with a large vehicle and four figures.

Hasbro is trying to lend a higher perveived value at a lower cost.

If you ask me, this DOES suck.

P.S. All of the new AF ships have opening cockpits. If there are no figures to go with them, this would be a pretty damn lame feature.

It wouldn't be as expensive to re-use a current mold would it? Plus the gummi plastic they're using now on the 3 3/4" line would probably be taken over to there, probably also taking down the cost (and maybe giving a chance for even more detail to be put on them).

Hello Glitch and thanks for joining this great forum,I enjoy collecting all of the AF & MM Star Wars but also like the "Aliens" and "Predator" AF & MM items,I had a Galoob sales phamplet from 1998 and it had a very nice picture of a deluxe AF playset for "Aliens",do you know if it was Galoob or hasbro that cancelled that item? And do you think it may be released one day?

I also liked the "Babylon 5" MM, its to bad Galoob only released a handful of the ships, did Galoob ever consider making B5 Action fleet?

I like the re-release of the OT battlepacks, I already have them all, but they are great toys and collectables that I'm glad to see available again. The figures will be sorely missed, I agree that they were one of the things that made the AF line so cool. Semi-posable tiny figures that fit into cockpits. I understand that they are expensive to produce and paint. Maybe they could release a "paint-your-own" figure set. You know, put about 20 or 30 of those little guys, unpainted in a kit for collectors and hobby-ists to customize themselves.
